Thread Description Wow, can't believe it's been more than a year since we started RTT. I feel like we have become a community of our own within GameTZ. We have our regulars and even some new comers. I hope 2018 brings us more like-minded retro gamers who will come here for a place of retro inspiration. When I started Retro Trade Thead (RTT), it was called "The Retro Trading Thread", kinda like how FB was "The Facebook", heh, I was just hoping for a group of retro gamers who share the passion and the thrill of collecting and playing Retro games. The result so far has exceeded my expectations and more. I am playing more retro games than ever and while my collecting is on and off, I know I have been enjoying more retro gaming in 2017 than my previous 5 years combined. I hope RTT members have similar experiences. 2018 will be an even better year, as we have established group events like RTT Secret Santa and our monthly Game of the Month, which is getting more popular as more people participate. I am hoping to bring RTT Podcast in 2018 where 2-3 RTT members will talk about monthly topics and other aspects of retro collecting.
Retro game buying and selling, collecting, playing, collectarding, upscaling, speedrunning....whatever your retro passion is, RTT will have a place for you and for everyone who participates in our discussions, whether occasionally or frequently, will continue to find value and fun in our thread.
Thank you for participating and making RTT the hottest topic every month in 2017!
Old Topic Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.
We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates. There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room. I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them. There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.
Old Old Topic Description
GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is . I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).
No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

> Once you guys beat Streets of Rage, post a pic with spoiler tags if possible.
> If not, I'll take your word for it, RTT honor system
Yeah I still don't know how to post pics. And if I have a photobucket I haven't used it in like ten years?
So I won't bother with even trying to post pics. Once I even start playing it or Shining Force that is. I'm going to pass a different game first however to start the new year right. I might try passing Genesis Toki or Fantasia since I'm superstitious about stuff like starting the year off right. 😉
> there's butts everywhere on the internet this week man
My thoughts on this crap
Rot is an butt-hole sure, but that's something you just have to know when you sign up for neogeo.com. Know the terrain. Hell I would personally recommend just never typing the url into your web browser. But if you HAVE to go there just don't piss him off (so don't post basically).
Time to raise some fundage again, I know right?? So without further ado.
Cowboy Bebop The Complete Series $18 shipped Lethal Enforcers Full-Length Manual, Game in jewelcase and Blue Justifier $24 shipped 7th Cross Evolution sealed $15 shipped Nights into Dreams disc only good $12 shipped TMNT IV Color Manual 6/10, no rips bit it has a decent number of creases $13 shipped
All proceeds payable to @Lunar, will try to add a few more tomorrow, thanks everyone.
It def reminded me that I am waiting to play all my Genesis games until I get a minty Nomad with new screen installed. I think I have time though, I'm just now getting into my PSOne with LCD screen gaming.
I'm getting in a nice stack of mostly cart only games soon, so if anyone here wants Alex Kidd Lost Stars (torn label) Altered Beast Choplifter Sports Pad Football California Games (listing says torn label but it doesn't appear to be) Rambo III(cart only) Kenseiden (loose cartridge) Hang On / Safari Hunt (no original box or manual) After Burner (no manual) Reggie Jackson Baseball (in box no manual) let me know
Trying to recoup some recent over-purchasing on eBay so I posted 5 deals for $50 in the Classified. There's at least 3 that include games that fit into this thread. Check it out and let me know if you're interested in any of them
I figured why not and tried it. Once purchased, you get an email linked to a form that REQUIRES your cell number to get the activation code for the game. Must have SMS or phone call to your number as a REQUIRED security measure, no VPNs supported. Not going to happen website, contacted them for a full refund and my thoughts on their tasteless marketing ploys....I am a real person with feelings and emotions, not gonna happen.
Man, I've been away a little too long guys, hope you're all doing great! tried to update my lists a little bit. Hope to trade with any of you all again soon. Figured I'd just pop in and say hi, though!

It's been a hectic 4th quarter. Mainly had to focus on transitioning into a new job and slowly leaving my old workplace since September. Totally a good move, but made for some long weeks working 40+ at my new job then 10-15 hours on weekends. I'm done with the old one now for good, though! Haven't had many pickups of trade fodder, either, which kinda sucks. I need things to get things since I'm still a cheap skate! :P
All this key talk reminds me of a few rumors i heard a few years ago, about how the humble bundles would steal credit cards, and i don't know if this was a coincidence, but not too long after purchasing a bundle from them, my credit card was also being used in san francisco bars and flower shops.
I wish there was a frame cancel move where you could cancel into another move set. I hate it where it commits you to a direction and a spot until your animation is over. That was Blaze's downfall, when she got surrounded and you couldn't get out of the combo once you started itm
>> Well clearly no one here wants it so I'm ready to dump. There are definitely some

> Right- that's my point ... not much in there is actual crap, it's just a tough market
> at this point
Some are pretty bad though, I guess it depends on your definition of crap. The Mana Khemia port is really bad, basically for collectors only. Anyway I managed to get most of it gone assuming an offer will be accepted. I don't mind having an extra Lunar around and maybe someday I'll get back to Grandia so those aren't the worst ones to have not sell.
So it looks like @Wheels617 was without Lethal Enforcers for 5 seconds lol.
@DiamondDave I forgot that Lodoss starts with that first episode in the middle, so weird. It's been a long time since I watched this, I've actually seen the tv series more recently. This one is a lot better. While the series is much closer to the source material this just works better as an anime and is more interesting.
Just got an S rank as Sona in League Blind Pick Solo Queue, and I'm proud. It was like "You or someone in your team got an S- rank or higher, everyone gets a chest!" and I was like "Sick, who got S rank? *looks* OH FU--"
Well, I made it to the final boss today as Adam. Seems his jump kick is the only thing I can reliably use to take down those twin Blaze fighters...god they suck. Anyway, maybe next time...I made a lot fewer mistakes with Adam. It's still a pretty solid run, I think I might be hard pressed to top it.
Alright! I just scored a copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection(Xbox 360)here. It'll probably arrive in about a week's time and then I can join in the fun of this month's RTT's Let's Play Together Game of the Month!
On a sadder note, this may be the last video game I purchase for awhile. Darn you, limited income and New Year's resolution!
Good luck sellin' off those beauties, ErickRPG! There're definitely purdy. I'd bite; but, alas, I only collect cartridges 'cause it's too much of a pain in the patoot to find all the titles I want with minty-mint cardboard boxes and instruction booklets.
> It's unbearably hard. I get so fudging frustrated everytime I try to start that
Which character do you play? There are "difficulty levels" that are baked into the characters. I forgot what's what but the Dwarf and Human are easy, generally the casters like sorceress and Priest are hard. I love that game for the music, the music is amazing. And I'm sure I have nostalgia for roaming around fighting with that battle and field music.
You have to grind in that game. I guess I have always been a fan of grinding. Even in Xenoblade I am enjoying sending Ursula to dozens upon dozens of missions and I can see myself grinding elite monsters for better gear and cores to farm rare blades. I just am enjoying the game so much.
I'll have to check what mint copies are going for @sharif. I want to get my SNES classic in first before I sell it. But I'm hoping for a bit over $100. Like I said need to check.
As far as SNES classic. I've heard you need a Pro Controller to be able to get back out to the menu. I'm getting a wireless 8bitdo but that doesn't have the needed button right? I'll still have to get up off my lazy ass to go back to the menu?
@DiamondDave, I will concede that SoR is about equal with SoR2 on the music front, the only song I thought SoR did worse was in the factory. That was crap compared to Back to the Industry. I still favor SoR 2 a bit, it has bigger sprites and the moveset feels more finished, but I can appreciate that SoR came first and achieved what it did.
> I actually haven't tried it since, and that was likely over a decade ago. I had such
> a miserable experience I never looked back,
There's a lot of rigged dice rolling until you grind up to the requisite levels for the areas you're tackling. I think the intro for the game was made that way to cull the weak-willed so that only the masochists remained.
> @DiamondDave, I will concede that SoR is about equal with SoR2 on the music front,

I thought elevator excluded, overall, the music in SoR was more fun but that's just taste. SoR3/Bare Knuckle 3's still got an interesting spot where it feels a lot more experimental, it's kinda nuts that it was the same composer for each game I think.
After going back to SoR2 after a couple playthroughs of SoR1, I liked it much much less. Can't explain it, the sprite work was less charming, the old classic tunes just didn't thrill me no more. Being able to spam your crowd clears nonstop to me felt like a step backwards in overall difficulty. I got 3-4 stages in and actually shut it off because I didn't wanna play it anymore, was weird suddenly.
I think a large part of SoR2 for me is that I played that before the original and beat it like 20 times co-op with various friends during my early years. It didn't get any better than sitting down with a buddy, staying up late and playing it till the end in one go, same reason why I prefer Toejam & Earl over Panic on Funkotron.
> It's actually kinda cool, once you "get it" the game becomes pretty interesting pretty
> quickly. It's certainly not one of Enix's worst titles.
Again, the music is just. Wow, it makes the game. Well this is happening folks. The 3DO games are wrapped up real tight and heading to @dunno001 as I type. The purge begins. So there will be some minty SNES, N64, OG XBOX, WiiU, Sega CD games. Might be more but that's the majority of what I'm focusing on. Keeping portables and more recent gen stuff.
If anyone has been after an extremely mint SNES boxed, your chance is coming.
> How much you thinking on 7th Saga? Don't have the system but you know, maybe this
> inspires a purchase
I don't think 7th Saga is one of the more expensive titles. If you are serious we can hammer out a price in PMs but I'm thinking the $50 range. But I could even be remembering too high so don't quote me on it
I have pretty much lost patience for the really grindy or obtuse old RPGs. I think I mentioned I tried to play Phantasy Star II recently and I was just like, naaaah I'm good. Give me something to shoot.
@gypsy just shoot a pm with that title so I can keep you in mind. Sega CD and OG Xbox are def coming. I've only got 4 freakin sega CD games. Not enough to warrant a huge boxed system. If anyone is seriously interested in a certain system just give me a PM with whatever system you are interested in. Here's the ones that I'll be purging. .
OG xbox SNES N64 Sega CD (will have gen 2 included) WiiU Dreamcast
@playying haha no. I've just got too many games. I actually want to play what I own, not have like 100s of games sitting on a shelf. I am just keeping newer stuff. I have a PSOne with LCD in my computer desk drawer and the plug plugged up so when I'm in the mood I just take it out of the drawer, plug it up and play me some FFVII right on my damn computer desk.
PS1, PS2, 360, PS4, Switch, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita. Just keeping more recent stuff and older stuff like PS1 and PS2 that actually have enough RPGs to warrant me keeping a big boxed system on my shelf.
I really like how for some of the Ranma sets the bulky limited edition is cheaper. By which I mean it's annoying because it's going to look weird on my self but I'm also so cheap that I can't bring myself to pay $12-ish more per set in some cases for shelf aesthetic.
isn't it hard to collect anime and be cheap? :P I had to give up on physical movies and go to streaming only on movies and anime, I tried for a while a few years ago. don't have the space or the money lol. already going as digital as I can for games for space savings. guides are starting to filter into the game section of the bookshelf as is :/ also a first world problem lol
I'm pretty cheap and have a large dvd/blu collection. Crap is cheap, you just have to wait for sales, price drops etc... and never ever pay MSRP. Which, to be fair, you'd have to go out of your way to pay MSRP. Stuff almost always pre-orders for less. Generally pre-order prices are more than I want to pay as well though.
Sega CD has some good crap. Unfortunately either very expensive, and just not quite enough good crap. Some with Saturn, tons of great crap, hardly any of it localized. Dreamcast some good crap, just ended too early.
That's it for today, I did a ton of crap today. Feel pretty good. Scored an SNES classic and have an 8bitdo wireless on the way. Gonna wait til Wednesday and can't wait to play around with my SNES classic!
I'm just glad there was a market for it here. I ended up getting the english version of 2. I thought I could power through but I can't stand not reading what they are saying. But as soon as I saw the offer I was like "F YEAH get it".
Here's the thing. The first one was censored in such a cheap ugly way. It looked like an MS paint spray can sprayed in a few of the shots over the girls butt or crotch. talk about a lazy job. It appears that the 2nd was censored in a more artful way by just redrawing certain areas. That I can live with. And I really did enjoy the story and gameplay of the first. Haven't played the second yet. I tried to replay the 1st in Japanese and I guess I've grown fond of reading because of all the RPGs I've been playing. That I sorely missed what they were saying. So thankfully Sharif came along and now I have Criminal Girls 2 USA version on the way from Amazon. I'm happy. Thanks @sharif
Sharif did get a super minty copy of Shadowrun for a decent price. So he made out pretty good. If he has access to ebay those 2 games will be easy to sell for exactly as much as he paid if he changes his mind. I'm just glad I was able to unload them here, and look forward to playing the English version of CG2.
It's a classic and was pretty much one of the first actual fantasy anime so it has that going for it. But it's also got a lot of problems. Bad story transitions being chief among them. Also the first 8 or so episodes are a lot better than the last few.
Now though? Give me Scrapped Princess
I KNOW IT'S ALSO SCI-FI
, El Hazard, Slayers or Rune Soldier. Come to think of it there isn't actually a lot of proper high fantasy anime out there so it probably is in my top 5 if almost by default.
On the topic of I like the smaller footprint of the CDX, but I don't like feeling like I'm touching a rare artifact every time I use it for fear of breaking it and subsequently owing the taller half a couple hundred bucks. I also had no desire to construct the Leaning Tower of Pulseman to play it last month, so I played it on instead.
@sailorneorune Do you know if there has been any movement on getting Maison Ikkoku released? With Ranma being completely rereleased I am a bit hopeful. There is no chance I would pay what the later MI dvd sets go for...
I now have the first 3 Ranma sets on the way (brand new from a proper seller of course) and I'm looking forward to grabbing the rest.

Nothing on MI yet, but the JP s just came out last month. Considering Warner Japan let Viz release Jojo's Bizarre Adventure over here with all of its potential music rights issues, and their resident miracle worker Char was able to snag Sailor Moon, anything's possible!
Anyone know much about modded ? Picked up a pretty grimy lot today, mainly because I saw a CIB Eternal Darkness peaking out in the pics. Anyways, one of the 2 gamecubes is modded with a qoob pro chip. Only ever heard of the xeno. Google-fu leads me to believe this is a pretty decent chip.

DiamondDave sold me a badass that's been modified to be copy-free 'n' region-free and output in HDMI. While the thing is a boss, I'm afraid to say I only know how to enjoy it and not much else about it. But, hit up DD 'cause I'm pretty sure he got it from someone else here who knows a thing or two about a mod.
>> I want to love Lunar TSS but like I mean, the Saturn/PS1 version exists.
> Does that make it less generic RPG template and more interesting?
I personally love it because the music, and some of the anime scenes are pretty awesome. But if you don't like RPGs it won't make you love them.
@noid haha I feel honored you posted that face scrunching gif, thanks!
Does anyone think when they release more NES classics that 8bitdo will make a wireless NES controller? Or a wireless N64 controller for the much rumored N64 Classic? I'm hoping so. Would be pretty awesome to have those 3 systems hooked up and be able to play anywhere in the room with your handy wireless controller.
Is it the lackluster anime cutscenes? Because no other game had it. Is it the voice acting? Because very few games had it. Light-hearted good vs evil story? Bad ass villain? Generic guy named Alex everyone wanted to be? Hot girl named Luna/Althena? Best music the industry has ever heard? Like every track is memorable? Turned based combat too boring? Use AI
> I sometimes boot up Lunar TSS just for the opening cutscene and kick ass song.
You are talking about right? I agree I love the town music tracks in that game better. And the intro is 80's goodness. But the version to me has some goosebumps moments in a few of the anime cutscenes. Both versions are great for their own reasons.
$15 off with eBay bucks, plus $75 in gift cards to blow, this was only about $5 out of pocket. Glad I bought it because the right neon red joycon that came with the Switch I ordered off eBay ended up being super flakey. Need to call up Nintendo to get an estimate on repair/replacement.
I tried my SNES Classic and wow, I'm in love! I was kinda worried it wouldn't work with Japanese roms that had translation patches applied, but it does, no problem. Wow, it's so awesome to have an entire library of fan translated roms, playing it on an official Nintendo product, with sharp colors on the big screen. All with a snappy interface that you can add box scans too! This is the emulation interface I've been waiting for forever. I can't wait for NES classic and N64 classic. I highly recommend this product to any retro lover to get an authentic feel at a fraction of the cost.
>> |>> I want to love Lunar TSS but like I mean, the Saturn/PS1 version exists.

> Dragon Warrior came first. Doesn't make it any good today I didn't think Lunar
> was bad though.
Now you're talking crap about Dragon Warrior after intentionally voting for a one dimensional game because it was only an hour long? Do you even still like video games?
Sorry if you were being sarcastic but I did play the original Dragon Warrior this year and despite a few minor flaws it's a pretty incredible accomplishment for being one of the first games to really be a traditional rpg. And it's fun. And the music is great. And it's challenging to a degree. Even the enemies are really cool.
If you don't like RPGs fine I get that, I don't particularly like fps games although there are a few I loved. But maybe just say you don't like them and move on.
I dont blame you for hating the jumping ninja chicks, I thought they were more boss worthy than Mr.X himself. Thats part of the reason I enjoy SoR2 more myself, sure it may take less skill or cheating the ai, but there are far fewer cheap enemies in 2. Those fire breathing fat guys are kind of a pain too.
> I regret my SoR vote. I'd rather replay a 20 hour long SRPG than subject myself to
> beat em ups.
Well no worries I hadn't read your last post before responding to your other one.
I'm pretty eclectic myself but that foxs Peter Pan and the Pirates on Nes was pretty impossible for me to get into the first day I tried. I'm still going to try it again but it's ..... So far not so good.
Don't give up on this month though, we could be the only two to pass every game of the month so far. I haven't found my 6 pack yet but I still plan on beating Streets of Rage this month. I just started a different game to start my year off right. Maybe beat a game you like and jump back in the saddle sir.
> You know you're going to miss it right? Or are you thinking that once it's gone it
> will be kinda liberating?
> Anyways good luck with your sale and I hope it helps you achieve your new goals 😊
> Whatever they may be!
liberated. I feel weighed down with sort of a planned playlist "gotta play this, gotta play that, gotta beat this". I got an SNES Classic mini, and I feel like I can just play whatever game I want. I think owning a $150 mint complete game puts more pressure to actually play it (have a completed save file on it). Will I miss some of them from time to time? Yeah. But I'll still have 200+ games. Having less systems with more games sounds better to me than tons of systems with some only having 4 or 5 games. I already sold my 3DO collection to dunno and I have no regrets, in fact I've been feeling really happy lately. I now look forward to current gen games much more (switch/ps4) and view my retro collection as more of a fun hobby than a chore.
that ErickRPG is dead. Lol j/k. Do I have to show you my picture of super pristine lunar 1 and 2 complete? Just streamlining my collection. Of course more so than ever b4. But SNES Classic has had a serious effect on me. I love the damn thing to death. Here's what I am keeping.
(why? Because NOMAD baby!)
More systems than most people own, more games than most people own. Now maybe an amount of games I can actually handle.
> Ok, who are you imposter? And what have you done with our minty original hardware
> loving ErickRPG?
Thank you! First, he swears off buying needlessly expensive retro video games from eBay. Then, he wisely decides to cull his massive collection to just a few select titles that he truly loves. If he keeps this up, we may not let him hang out in the RTT anymore.
I'M TOTALLY KIDDING! WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU, ErickRPG!!
I'm going to take a video of my RPG loaded SNES Classic, with box pictures of not only US releases but JP releases that were translated. Still have 210 games even with all those games moved over to the available list. I know u guys are kidding. It's all about having fun right? That's what this hobby is about. And I'm having more fun than I've had in a long time. I feel really great. And I'm really happy for @dunno001 who while cherish his new minty 3DO games. And to future owners of my still for sale games.
Crazy, and lots of time on my hands. I can play games at work. And lastly, my name is ErickRPG. I wouldn't earn my moniker if I couldn't. I am mostly playing Xenoblade 2, with just a little bit of the other 2. When I beat my main game, I turn one of my backup games into my main game, and keep going.
Need some quick cash to fund a turbo express + recap job... also does anyone know a guy who does that kind of thing?

>> @BleedingViolet you should play this game if you haven't LOL
Yeah it's so great. Everything about it is hilarious and the action gameplay is pretty damn smooth.
I was going to finish Bullet Witch first but @DiamondDave sent me a bunch of scratchy discs. On the bright side I thought the 360 was having trouble but it was only during Bullet Witch so I looked at the disc and I was like ohhhhh okay.
Bullet Witch is surprisingly decent for being crap and like $5. It REALLY could have used an in-game map though.

glad to know you were talking about the PSX version. I remember selling my PSX version as soon as I heard the 3DS version was being localized. I was super excited for it, and enjoyed every minute of it.
I think Stick of Truth is probably more this threads' speed for Game of the Month. Anything longer than 8 hours is asking for heartbreak, I don't think anyone in this thread even keeps a game longer than 8 hours
