I was over at Gamespot earlier today, they had an interview with the head US Sony guy in charge of this thing. He claims that the PSP is gonna stay at this price and only the first million or so unit is gonna include the Spiderman 2 movie. After that, same price, just no movie. Then he also said that no matter what price the PSP is it would sell.
I guess this was done shortly before the launch, but it seemed like a pretty arrogant attitude to have. Maybe with the success of the consoles he can get away with it.

Castlevania is supposed to be coming to the DS. No word on it for the PSP.

One big point for me is the reverse compatibility of DS. The GBA library, IMO, seriously rocks. Granted, my favorite system is the SNES, so i'd naturally be drawn to the system with the excellent 2D support, but also...yep...priiiiiice. I can't afford a PSP at all...period. Even if i could, i couldn't justify it to myself.
Most important for me, though, is the quality of the games and my ability to play them on the move with this so-called "portable". I don't give a DAMN what a game looks like on a portable system...and i don't care much what it sounds like...which are things I think Nintendo understands better than Sony. Seriously...what kind of a graphical impression can you make with a tiny LCD screen? Forget that it's bigger than the others, has higher resolution, blah blah blah. It's still tiny. No matter how much detail they squeeze into that little screen, i'm not gonna appreciate having to stick my face right up to the screen and squint in order to see a beautifully-rendered image, especially if those pretty pictures are sucking my battery dry twice as fast as the competition.Basically, for something with snazzy visuals and orchestral soundtracks, i'll get a console and play it where i can appreciate them: on a TV...maybe with some nice speakers. For a portable, i need to be able to rely on it not to die 2 1/2 hours into a trip. Yes, i know it plays movies, but you can get a portable DVD player with a much bigger (relatively-speaking) screen for around this much cash...and it plays DVDs...not their double-priced counterparts that don't work anywhere else. Yes, i know it has lots of hot upcoming games (or does it? I don't even know)...but what good will it do you when you're on the plane and the battery is dead? I'll take something with double or triple the battery life that also still has fun games...even if it can't handle miniscule CG cinemas. Bottom line for me: PSP is looking very much like a jack of all trades that will be the master of none. A reasonable person looking for movies can get a portable DVD player. If he wants cutting-edge games he can get a console (or a new video card, for you smartasses who are dying to point out the superiority of PCs as far as technology is concerned). If he wants a portable he can get something that's portable for more than a couple hours. If you think "but i can still watch movies and play games with this gnarly portable...even if it's not quite up to snuff on any of those three key points"...then the PSP is for you.
It's not for me. |

I think one of the main reasons why people love the GBA so much is that most of the game are just fun, you pick it up and you play.. nothing to in depth or to deep... Just linke Monte says its like playing the old SNES games which were just pick it up and play..
Now playing console type games on the go for example like the PSP you'd have to spend a long period of time playing through it... gives it sorta a different feel you know..
You guys know what I'm talkin bout?

Golden Sun 1 &2, the Castlevania games, hell even the Zelda games are just "pick up and play games"?
All those games have depth.

there are a lot of driving games for the psp, very easy to pick up and play(or just play for 1 or 2 races) and seem very appropriate to be playing on road trips(tho i would like a burnout 3 on psp)
