So, as you can see, I'm about half way to a full game collection at this point. I'm in no rush, so please no crazy offers to a man you think is desperate to have every Dreamcast game by the end of the week!
Every game I am "missing" at this point is on my Wanted List, so you'd want to go there first. As that list gets smaller, I'll move it to this topic so you can see anything that's "missing" right here. Also, I'm only looking for complete versions in at least very good condition. Not concerned about normal wear on the disc/manual/case, but I don't want any discs with true scratches in them, manuals that are warped or ripped... cases aren't a huge deal, since they can be replaced, but the inlay artwork needs to be in very good condition, please.
Anyway, I'm willing to trade or buy right now, but I'm (obviously) looking for fair trades or decent prices. Let the completing begin!

Okay, so I have both an NFL 2K and an NFL 2K1, both complete, pending in right now that will be duplicates. I will trade anyone these games for ANY Dreamcast game still on my Wanted List. Just has to be complete and at least very good condition. If one person wants to do a 2 for 2, that's fine.

Here are a few games I would like to get sooner rather than later:
Pen Pen TriIceLon
Test Drive 6
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing
Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX
TNN Motorsports: Hardcore Heat
WWF Attitude
According to eBay's recently completed listings, these are worth about $15-20 complete, in good to excellent condition. According to Belladonna, they are worth $45 shipped. He said the disparity in value is due to the fact that I wasn't considering that 7 games would make the package heavy enough to be forced to send it Priority... which I guess costs $30 where he lives. I say the disparity in value is because he is a douche bag who thinks his bucket full of gold stars means he can rip off anyone, anytime, anywhere. So I guess you could say I have a wild hair up my ass about these 6 games (I just picked up one of them). So please, send me offers if you have these games. Thank you.

SOMEone's airing dirty laundry...
Did you get seriously butthurt by his prices or what?
Do you incorporate the shipping costs for all these cheap ebay Dreamcast game prices, or just look at the bids that finish for 1-3 bucks?
I just skimmed, but after shipping most games end up being 4-6 bucks each- individually on Ebay at least. Putting the entire package somewhere btw 28-42 bucks. By that estimate, his price is maybe a little much, but not astronomical.
It might be worth it to pay a little extra to get them all at once, rather than dealing with 7 different ebayers/shippers. Plus with a guy like Bella, you will get a more reliable statement on their conditions, whereas Ebay some people tend to call anything "mint" when it is anything but. | savior

Nah, I wouldn't say I'm "butthurt" over it. The $15-20 estimate was on what the games without shipping sold for on average. Your estimate of $28-42 is if each item is shipped individually which would not be the case. I understood from the get go that they would need to go Priority, as I had just received 7 DC games from someone else and it cost them just under $7 to send. At most the package was worth $30 shipped, and that would be pushing it... but nowhere NEAR $45. Oh, and I forgot to mention this before, but as an alternative to a sale, he offered trading me the games for my (truly) mint, black label Final Fantasy VII, which still sells for $50-60 last time I checked. The conversation would have been laughable if he wasn't so arrogant (and believe me, I'm not airing the dirty laundry as far as that goes... it was a private conversation and I'll keep it that way).
BTW, the "dealing with 7 different eBayers" theory goes both ways, and in my experience, it's much more beneficial when you're the seller to get rid of a package here than to sell on eBay (package or individually). No listing fees, no final value fee, no PayPal fees, one person to deal with, etc.
Anyway, I honestly find the whole thing pretty funny, but it motivated me to get those particular games, so I figured I'd post about it and maybe spark some interest. Belladonna and I have traded in the past, and I respect him as a trader, but he was a complete douche bag this time around... so be it. He even went so far as to "block" me rather than explain how he figured the package was worth $45 shipped... so me thinks he knew he was in the wrong and didn't want to deal with it. Again, so be it.

Savior asked me to send these games....I threw out $45 shipped...figuring $5-6 a game (some sealed...all mint) plus shipping.
1) Pen Pen TriIceLon (Dreamcast) [Condition: good; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
2) Test Drive 6 (Dreamcast) [Condition: excellent; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
3) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (Dreamcast) [Condition: excellent; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
4) Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing (Dreamcast) [Condition: excellent; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
5) Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX (Dreamcast) [Condition: very good; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
6) TNN Motorsports: Hardcore Heat (Dreamcast) [Condition: unopened; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
7) WWF Attitude (Dreamcast) [Condition: unopened; Box: yes; Manual: yes]
His offer was $25 shipped 1st Class...I responded that they wouldnt ship 1st Class (too heavy) and would have to go Priority, bringing the generous offer down to about $19-20 after DC#. I never mentioned that the disparity in value had to do with shipping. I simply said they wouldnt ship 1st class is all. I simply put a price of about $5-6 a game on them Yes they are old and they are mint. ...Let's see now.......7 DC games (some sealed) for about $2.67 each shipped. I said no...so his response is as quoted below :
"the disparity in value is because
> he is a douche bag who thinks his bucket full of gold stars means
> he can rip off anyone, anytime, anywhere. So I guess you could say
> I have a wild hair up my ass about these 6 games "
The other thing I would like to mention is the multiple star rip off excuse doesnt fly here...I wanted $5 or so a game ...he wanted to pay 1/2 that...I said no. That makes me a gold star rip off douche bag. End of line. As to the hair up your ass about these games.........dont ever pull that hair out cause you may just stop thinking altogether! Savior...I do get a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that you will be you for the remainder of your life. Thank you Tony

Well, there's problem #1. None of those games are worth $5-6, except maybe Test Drive 6. I did my homework, found out the real value of the games, and made a fair offer. You "simply put a price" on them and made a ridiculous counter. Two ridiculous counters, if you count the trade for my FF7.
Problem #2 is that instead of talking about it and negotiating, you called me a "noob" and said you would block me. Let's see, if Trader A knows the value of the games he's trying to buy and Trader B is simply putting prices on them based on nothing, which one is acting like a "noob"? If Trader A is being courteous, asking if maybe he's missing that one of the games is valuable, generally trying to discuss the possible trade, and the Trader B responds that he's going to block Trader A, which one is acting like a "noob"?
As I told you in our conversation and I posted here, I respect you as a trader, Tony. However, you were, in fact, a douche bag in this instance. I'm glad you posted here to prove my point. Good day, sir... and a happy Independence Day to you, as well.

Why wouldn't you incorporate the shipping? That's what Ebay buyers are paying, isn't it?
I dunno... not including shipping costs, when the shipping knocks the price of a .99 cent game up to 4 or 5 dollars... using that line of logic to gauge "value" seems pretty skewed, and in your favour.
I realize shipping several items at once will save on the total shipping cost, but surely you've seen that shipping charges- especially on Ebay- can dramatically increase what buyers are actually paying. People aren't just paying .99 cents for the games (unless the auction includes free shipping, and in most of the super cheap auctions they don't). They're really paying 4-6 bucks. So I'm not sure how you can say something along the lines of "according to Ebay, these games are worth aronud 2 dollars each." when clearly the buyers are paying more.
Like I said before though, I just skimmed through a few completed auctions. Maybe I missed some of the ones you were looking at...
| savior
| | #78 posted July 5, 2009 at 12:02am (EST) |
You're 100% correct, Broccoli. In some cases, eBayers are paying for the shipping. But to just blindly factor that into the value of a game doesn't make sense, since you're always looking at a single game sale, and usually a seller who wants to cover some of the listing fee (not an issue here), final value fee (not an issue here) and/or PayPal fee (not an issue here). But you also can't just ignore it, as you said.
So to answer your question, I do factor that variable in when looking for a fair value on a game. Some games ONLY sell for under $1 (penny auctions, 99 cent auctions, etc.), and the shipping prices are realistic, so to me that game would be worth $1. In other cases, the game sells for $1 with a high shipping cost in some auctions, but $3 in other auctions with a realistic shipping cost. In that case, I'd value the game at $3. It's a good way to get a pure baseline to work from. You get the value of the game itself, then you can factor in the shipping based on how many games you're buying. For example, in a single game purchase, I would expect to pay more than $1 for a game I had "valued" at $1. But if I'm buying 7 games, I can look at what their actual value is ($15-20 in this case), and then figure how much shipping is ($7 in this case) to come up with an offer.
Condition can also play a part, but usually only in the more "valuable games" (stuff that sells for over $10 pre-shipping). In my experience researching DC game value (which has been a LOT lately) going from "good" to "excellent" for a complete game is a $1 difference in most cases (and I don't want anything below "good", so I don't even care about those). The "valuable" games can be worth $3-5 more if it's "excellent" as opposed to "good". Unopened/Sealed can be a large boost in value, but isn't always, so you need to dig a little deeper on those.
Anyway, there is definitely wiggle room, but I factor that in. That's why I said this particular lot was $15-20 not shipped... I factor in the low end and the high end. I also expect the other trader to counter if they disagree, and we can discuss it. Hardly any of my trades/sales/purchases go through on the first offer... they almost all end up going back and forth a few times before it's officially dead or gets pended. Isn't that the case for most people, though?
