I don't know what you would sell on Amazon that would have a shipping charge of $20. You can't really bundle stuff, its just single games, and those are much cheaper then $3.99 to ship. So the $3.99 shipping almost takes care of the fees.
I just sold a Picross DS that I had listed at $12.98, and I'm getting $12.68 after fees.
With more expensive, valuable games, its easy to just factor the fees into the overall cost. (ie, I want to get at least $45 for this game, I'll list it at $52 or something). Amazon is full of mindless buyers. | monkeysmadness

$20 was an exaggeration. However, some of the stuff I was planning to post on there is quite heavy and would cost a lot to ship - one example being the Escaflowne Perfect Vision limited box set that was released a few years ago (2001 or 2002, I think). It includes 8 full-size DVD's, a box to hold them in, a black Escaflowne figurine and a box to hold that as well (which is roughly the same size as the DVD box). So, $3.99 would not be enough to ship that.
I suppose if the stuff doesn't sell here this time (this is my second or third attempt, but each time I've sold a couple of items) I'll have to take it to Amazon or eBay... I'd probably take Amazon over eBay. And I suppose I'll have to factor in some fee-age into my asking price. I was merely commenting on how much smoother and more enjoyable it is to do business on this site.

The only reason I don't prefer GTZ for selling is because most people here are fairly smart, and they are bargain hunters. Amazon buyers are a different breed, they just want to do their one click checkout thing and be done with it. They don't have time to research the price, in general. Its a lot of parents over there. So much of my feedback I get says things like "Thanks, my kids love it" and stuff like that. | Chad

Thanks, Mikey. Before it all happened, the images of people being rescued in boats was stuck in my head, and of course it happens.
Got past the National Guard and into my house yesterday with a generator and pump. 8 feet of standing water in the basement. Worse than I had anticipated, but again fortunate compared to even a block over, where flood waters remain with a swift current. Unfortunately, at that height, the electrical box was hit. I obviously couldn't go down into the water and really assess how much structural damage was done, but several basement windows broke under the pressure, which is something as they were boarded and sandbagged. Looking through, the blinds are all covered in mud, quite the sight.
I had time to get about a foot pumped out before the city and National Guard caught me. It wasn't a big deal, there were several gas leaks of concern and they had to get people out of there. The guy from the city was pretty short with me, but then immediately apologized. Shook his hand and told him I understand how hard his job is right now, telling people to stay away from their ruined lives for days on end with no sleep or thanks. He cried a bit, made me a little emotional.
After I got back to my grandma's (where my mom and my animals are staying) I made some calls, got a claim number with the insurance company and got all lined up with FEMA. Got another 30 or 40 calls/texts from concerned friends, more and more help lined up for once the water gets pumped out, makes a guy feel like all the time he's wasted with crapheads has meant something.
All in all, I lost a washer, dryer, my weights/bench, treadmill, various irreplaceable family photos, and obviously the drywall/carpet. What really chaps my ass is losing all my movie posters that were up on my walls. Didn't have time to dink and dunk around with them, probably the only stuff I don't see myself being able to replace. It was all foreign posters for American films, very neat.
Ah well, such is life gentlemen.
Happy Father's Day!

I'm curious as to whether CR has ever had any issues with flooding or the potential threat of a flood? Because it's a real threat many people living in New Orleans have to face in our being so far below sea level, where we are always braced with the real possibility of flood waters. To own property in New Orleans its actually mandatory to have flood insurance for that very real prospect of a flood.
I'm sorry for all the damage you've taken on your house, but if I can offer any solace through means of similar circumstance, it gets better and things are replaced and houses are repaired. It's all just a matter of time, but progress does happen -- even if it appears as if it never will when compared to the amount of devastation.
I read that in CR they were letting people back into their houses (and as you've said, I guess they have) -- which is something we weren't able to do for some time -- but that they suddenly changed their minds, which is probably the best idea for the time being. If you go back again you should be careful, because aside from the real prospect of getting tetanus from all the filth, there is also a lot of danger in stray power lines and broken glass, etc. But you probably know most of this anyway, but I'm saying this mainly because I'm concerned.
I wish you the best of luck in dealing with your insurance provider and FEMA. I can't begin to tell you the headaches that ensued from having to deal with the insurance companies and their constant backtracking and attempts to evade the responsibility of having to pay for the damages. My family did well after a little asserting and force, but the rest of my family, like my aunts and uncles, faced the ugliest aspect in their getting compensated by these insurance companies. Their houses were completed destroyed by water -- both houses two stories high and with the water line reaching as high as the attic in mere minutes, which could clearly be seen if one, you know, had eyes. Unfortunately, their insurance providers said the damage they had taken was not primarily flood damage, but rather wind damage, and that they refused to pay for anything past that, which is a disgusting degree of shadiness that affected many people in New Orleans and that still makes the newspaper headlines to this day -- detailing the court's decision to finally make these insurance companies pay up. So, people are getting paid, but it has taken longer than needed.
Just be assertive -- as I know you can be -- and keep your bullcrap detector on at all times, and you should be fine. Don't trust these guys, because they will try to cut every corner at the benefit of them, and the detriment of their customers. One more thing: if you don't need the financial assistance from FEMA, don't take it, because I still have friends who believed FEMA was just handing out 2,000 dollars without expecting it to be paid back. Well, they're still being pursued -- and they're still expected to pay it back, contrary to what they thought at the time. And it didn't help that they didn't really need the assistance and blew the money on crap, because there were a lot of people who legitimately did -- and well, it's not good for my friend's right now. I don't tell you this to discourage you, or that I believe you'd take money that you might not need (you may need it -- and in that case, take it), but to detail the real possibilities so as to not fall victim of the relief you are entitled to.
I wish you the best and hope for a speedy recovery. From the sounds of it, even through this horrible devastation, you appear in good spirits and the right frame of mind -- and that's great.
