We've had major floods in 1929 and 1993. 1929 was the worst at 20 ft crest. We crushed that by 12 feet this year. In the 100 year flood plain, flood insurance is mandatory. However, in the 500 year (my area) it isn't.

I wouldn't compare this to Hurricane Katrina simply because New Orleans is a beloved gem of the country and it wasn't merely water that crushed the city. This, by comparison, is a bush league catastrophe.

I appreciate the concern, man. Got in to do clean-up two days ago. A house directly across the road was tagged for demolition. The couple had been living there for 45 years. Watching them cry took it right out of me. Luckily, the floor drain allowed all the water to leave by the time I got back in, aside from the soaked-in-the-carpet crap. At this point, I've got everything out but the carpet. I'll upload pics eventually, just for the joy of gawking.

I'm in really good shape. Anything FEMA doesn't cover, the IADA (Iowa Auto Dealership Association) because my mom works at Toyota. I've also been the benefactor of over $1000 raised by a bunch of friends and a $210 Lowe's Gift Card. God bless the loving drunkards of this city.

Yeah, I'm starting to wear down. It's been rough going, mostly doing the work alone, and I have to leave the house by 8:00 P.M. nightly for the curfew. I am sick and tired of not being at my own home, and especially sick of my incredibly asinine family. Without a doubt the least supportive people in the world. I was at my grandparent's house on my mom's side, but after day three of my grandpa freaking the fudge out over the fact I knocked out the studs and got rid of them instead of bleaching them and keeping them up I packed up my crap and came to the farm for good. I made my fudging decision, a few hundred fudging dollars of lumber is the least of my concerns, but the jerkass fails to see anything logically. I don't know, an electrical box, furnace, water heater, washer, dryer...perhaps there's more important things to worry about? Not in his apecrap retarded world.

Meanwhile, my father's side has endorsed the "life goes on" theory. This, of course, because they were unaffected and don't have to lift a finger. Then there's unaffected people who are just pissed that the party events for the 4th of July have been canceled in Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas.

Humanity disgusts me. I'm off to drink whiskey and yell at the walls.

Went for another run. I wasn't going to run today, so I was upstairs eating dinner while watching tv and i looked out to the trail off my backyard and saw some super hottie jogging by. So I thought fudge, i need to get out there and watch her run from behind! so change really quick and start running at a fast pace trying to catch a glimpse of that ass but to no avail. I ran to the end of the trail (about 3.5 miles from where I am) in probably 20 minutes and then walked/jogged back in dismay.
