Would you mind if I asked why you hate America?
Seriously though, why can't you two have any fun on the 4th?

QFT.
Or at least refresh yourself on the reason why you have the freedom to decide to be scrooges on the 4th. |

It's not that I don't like the 4th or anything, it's just that every year all we do is light off fireworks or watch the local fireworks show and now that I'm older, the appeal is just gone.

Rebel Pride!!! Wooooooo!
This has been one of the worst 4th of July's ever. First, my family thought it would be a good idea to steer away from the traditional 4th of July meal in steaks, burgers, things made on a grill. They made ham. What the fudge, and banked beans and some other crap. It's been raining all fudging day and it's just pouring right now usually the time people let off the works. I have to wake up at 5am and if it does quit raining I know I will be awakened by idiots in the night. And I can't drink so it sucks. |

Same as always, but we had fun, hung out with family, drank, lit a crapload of fireworks and had coffee. Can't complain.

This year was a bit uneventful, as I live in the great state of California, where it is illegal to have fireworks in my county. Although on Independence Days of yesteryear, we had quite a few cases of fireworks from Indiana (mortars, rocket packs, etc. ), for which to celebrate the day. Unfortunately, we had an influx of new neighbors last year who loved to spoil the fun and call the police. We were never fined, but I don't think my parents didn't want to deal with the cops again...

My cousin filled - literally filled - his garage full of them (most of which he sold to neighbors) from PA. That being said, the cops stroll by EVERY year and surprisingly usually tell us "just watch out for the kids" and go on past without bothering with any fines or anything.

Anyone claiming to hate the 4th of July clearly needs to attend the annual Mackey Farms Picnic. Liquor, kegs, old farmers, young hottie daughters of old farmers, nickel-dime-quarter card games, ladder ball, horseshoes, softball, political arguments, three-wheelers/quads/tractors to fudge around on, a parade just in town, and the best damn fireworks presentation in Ely every year that is accompanied by my gay strange cousin roping off viewing areas for all attendees and me loudly protesting the same gay cousin lighting 50% of the fireworks with such brilliant drunk wit as "Hey, seriously, P.J. is a fudging limpwrist, somebody else should be setting fires."
It's the only holiday I like.

I take back what I said. Felt better, so went to watch the firework show and chill with some people. Was too fudging cold for a summer night.

The Firefox spell checker let me down. I type so fast that sometimes an error slips through. And I hate that crap. It did actually rain throughout the night so people were doing the fireworks thing tonight. I never spend the money for the good displays of fireworks that you'd see. I sit on my porch smoking a cigarette and leech entertainment from the neighbors. |

I went to a friend's house and she made clafoutis for dessert. When I pointed out that it wasn't exactly American, she mentioned that even apple pie is European in origin. My alternate suggestions of pumpkin pie and jonnycakes were scoffed at. We also watched Kirikou and the Sorceress; not only is it not American, it's one fudgeed up movie. All this un-American-ness was then corrected by watching an MST3K and a Pauly Shore movie.

It does sound good though... but like most French dessert I'd probably find it too sweet.
MST3K sounds like a great 4th =) |

It's kind of ugly looking, but it's delicious. It's basically like having pancakes with berries, except all baked together.
