The other topic died so lets try to keep this active. Only a few days away! What are you predictions, surprises, etc for beginning this season? I love my Mets but the Braves and Phillies look nice also.

It's funny, on WGN they were commenting earlier how Ryan Dempster beat on the Gatorade machine his last outing. Poor Gatorade. |

They should just install punching bags in all of the dugouts. The gatorade doesn't deserve to be harassed. It's done nothing but hydrate and be delicious.

You guys think Joe Mauer has a shot at the MVP if he stays healthy for the rest of the year? Dude is on pace for like 35 HR's, his career high is like 13, i think he has 10 right now.

If he's healthy and the Twins contend for the division he could have a good shot at the MVP. He did pretty well in the voting last year, no? Even if this power surge doesn't continue, he's going to get his hits, while playing great defense. |

You think Mauer is on the old roids?

No. He's been a great hitter for awhile; power often develops later than other skills, especially for a catcher. There's a big difference between being strong and powerful at the plate. He's still barely 26, so it shouldn't be unexpected that he'd add some home run power to his game. It's a little surprising at how quickly the jump seems to be occurring, but he's a great hitter who's probably just squaring up on the ball a little better than usual, resulting in home runs. |

I really don't know guys. I just can't trust the majority of these players in the game today. I'm not saying hes on roids or anything but I think you know what I mean.

Dodgers and Angels battle of LA in the world series this year
talk all the crap you want but it will happen this year. |

That would be something. I could definitely see the Dodgers there (and no not just because Im a Dodger fan). Even without Manny they're still the best team in baseball record wise. They have a pretty easy schedule thus far though. We'll see how it plays out. As ridiculous as it is, I think they already have a lock on the division 2 months into the season.
The Angels I find it harder to picture going anywhere. I'm not saying they're bad, but I don't think they're ready to go all the way. They're a pretty young team (talented, but still young) for the most part. But who knows, baseball works in crazy ways. Anything can happen.

have you seen the phils and mets play? the dodgers put the hurt on the mets and the phils pitching is pretty damn bad so far.
as for the angels, look at 2002 when they made the series....very very young but still damn good.
dodgers are a shoe in this year for the NL |

"put a hurt"? They won 3-2 (in the 11th), 2-1, and 5-3. mostly because of defensive blunders...Also, the Dodgers faced Tim Redding and Livan Hernandez...not exactly the top of the bunch. |

I never said they put a hurt on anyone. And I agree that defensive miscues caused the Mets a lot of problems that series. But defense is part of the game too. You can't expect to go very far if you can't field. The Dodger's don't really "put the hurt" on anyone, but they manage to win still.

I would be shocked if the Angels made it. They're going to fight to make the postseason (which I think they will), and then they'll probably have to go through Boston, which they haven't been able to do with better teams than this year's version.
I think the Dodgers are the favorite in the NL, though. The NL East teams have too many question marks. I know almost all of you are NL East fans, but you'd be lying if you claimed your team was complete or only had minor flaws. The Dodgers aren't perfect either, obviously, but their problems are a lot more minor than any other NL team's. |

thats without manny as well. ill even go as far as saying that only one team from the nl east will make the playoffs. more then likely it will be the mets or the phils but i only one of them will make it and probly not even out of the first round |

Anyone thinking either NL East team will make it to the World Series is kidding themselves. I still don't see how the Phillies made it last year, perhaps that's because they never looked very good when they faced us...but I know the Mets with their current pitching can't do it, Mets need to go out and trade Reyes or a package of Church and a prospect or something for a #1 as their #2. |

| | #545 posted May 28, 2009 at 9:37pm (EST) |
the mets bench cant even field the ball.
its already easy enough to say that mets have no chance to make the playoffs with there current roster. there first basemen is old and showing it now, the pitching staff isnt good besides santana and shef's age is catching to him quick. what happend to this great 3rd baseman wright? where has he been so far? |
AlphakirA

| | #546 posted May 28, 2009 at 9:50pm (EST) |
Wow...you really don't watch baseball do you?
Their "current roster" has looked great in the last week, "there" first baseman is injured so he's not showing crap, the pitching staff involves the best closer in baseball and the only flaws outside of the first few weeks has been in the 3rd spot. Maine, Pelfrey, and Hernandez have looked very good as of recently. Shef hit over 400 in the last 12 games and has helped push them to first place. As for Wright, he's hitting .345 has 11 SB, an OBP of 446, and is hitting around 385 with RISP. |

If you had you'd know something about baseball. Stop responding to these posts and respond to the one where I picked out the bullcrap you said and proved you talk out of your ass. Does Baseball Tonight have Shef and Wright listed at hitting .120 and KRod, Maine, Hernandez not on the team? How about Peter Gammons, he doesn't exist, right? |

oh he exist but wasnt he on the cubs band wagon along with everyone else at the start of the season?
hard for me to think that the mets could do anything considering they havent done anything in the playoffs for how long now? |

Blue, yup, I think they lead the NL in SBs so far this year. With some of their speed (Reyes, Beltran, Wright, Martinez) there's no reason why they shouldn't make such attempts. They've been way too lazy on the basepaths in the last few years. |
