To Heatley's credit, not including 08's sweep by the Pens over the Sens, Heatley's been a point per game playoff guy too.

The year Ottawa made it to the cup final Heatley, Spezza and Alfy were unstoppable- until they played Anaheim in the final. Everyone knows how that turned out.

Heatley FUDGEED them over big time. If he would have taken the trade, they would have had Cogliano, Penner and Smid + Cammalleri in F/A.

Completely fudgeed. They should have traded Alfred when he was worth something a year or two ago. Spezza is their future.

Alfy would have a lot of trade value right now I think.

He'll probably retire a lifelong Senator though..

Kovalev and Koivu will not return to Montreal. There goes the heart and the top goal scorer on the team.

Kovalev had one good season... and after last year it was not much of a loss. Besides its His fault he is not playing in Montreal next year! He had a verbally agreed to a contract and still decided to shop himself to see if he could find better. Koivu sad to see go.. but they had to go in a different direction! They have people that can step up and take on the role of leader! Montreals current team was not getting it done, not saying this will be any different... but they have more skill and a new direction... so its either going to be a playoff bound team or one that should get a good draft pick lol

Kovalev was the most skilled player on the team. But most fans expected him to carry the team on his back.

He can't do everything.

Now they have much less such and more dead weight.

Koivu is the player you should be bashing. He hasn't had a great season since before his cancer which is probably why he was even with the team still.

His numbers have been almost identical over the last few years. Last year was one of his better seasons with Montreal. At least he signed with the Sens, and can show the fans who dislike him how good he is. Just like most skilled players who leave Montreal do. Let's not forget Montreal hasn't been a really good team for a decade now, besides one year.

LeClair, Tucker(yes Tucker went on to have good seasons), Chelios, etc.

He just made Ottawa a better team, not that it will make that much a difference.

Kovalev was good when HE wanted to be. He stunk it up last season (as did most of the team) Montreal needed to go into a new direction! They could not pin there hopes on a player that decides to play when he wants to! you never know wich one your going to get. Besides Montreal made an offer they had a verbal agreement and he still decided to look around so.. Its his fault he is not in Montreal.

Tucker, meh. He was no superstar! You forget what we got in that Chelios deal? and Leclair was lazy and doing crap in Montreal they traded him and he performs. You take that gamble on any young player when you trade him away! Montreal is not the only team to have this happen to.

Beauchemin signs with Toronto. Wasn't expecting that.

Tucker may not of been a star, I agree, but you're missing my point. He did better in Toronto. LeClair score 50 goals a year several times with Philly, so once again, he did better than in Montreal. Most stars that go to Montreal stink, then they get traded and do great.

Kovalev may of been good when he wanted to, but that was more than any other player did. Gainey got impatient and signed someone else. Which pretty well meant he had no real interest in him.

Kovy Spun his wheels. Who is to say Montreal would have signed what they did had they waited? There offence is better now.. still to small. But its more skilled. Tucker may have been better but he was and is no star! Montreal (not when they had Leclair) had really crapty coaching, no system in place it was really bad! Up until now when you actually have a NHL coach with NHL experiece! This will go along way in building a system the players can buy into wich never happened before.

Kovalev had his best season as a pro Hockey player in Montreal! but he was to inconsistant! Montreal will not miss that! They will miss the days he decided to show up... This will be better for the young kids and alot of the new players should set a better example! I think we are better off with the team as it stands now then we were with the one we had last year!

Kormisierk (sp) was a defensive liability last year! He pissed Price off a lot! Sure Price had a shaky year but damn Big Mike would often screen the goalie I can't tell you how many times I seen Price look at Kormiserek after a goal went in! Let the damn goalie see the puck! Anyway I hope he gets is rythem back in Toronto.. he had a bad year! I am really liking the way TO's Defense is looking! they may actually be fun to watch this year!

why do people say they can't score? scoring was not their problem last year; weren't they like 10th?

At times,I hate to practice, but I love to play.I know I need to study and I know I need to practice and I know how important it is.That doesn't mean I have to like it. The question I have to ask myself is am I willing to do that? And the answer is yes

Scoring has never been a big problem, keeping the puck out of the net is. A pathetic PK and mediocre D was the cause.

Now the Leafs are poised to finish last in the league. They had the worst PK in the whole league last year.... and have now got all these huge tough guys who rack up the penalty minutes! Maybe they're making an early pitch for Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires..

I actually think that they might crack the playoffs this year. They might be first round exits but this team is a huge improvement. The penalty killing sucked because the defense and goaltending was terrible. Just cause LEafs had the worst states for PK last year, doesnt mean they will suffer the same fate. Good coaching and a change in the players mentality might teach them not to take so many dumb penalties.

Whats wicked is that each game is problably going to have at least one fight, and im all for that!

How many of you would be interested in a NHL pool for the upcoming season? Im willing to put a new release title up for grabs to the winner at the end of the season. Or maybe subtime too. Most likely 360 or PS3. Want to see how many hockey fans would partake.

Im thinking of 1 month subtime to enter. 8 forwards, 6 defensemen and 1 goalie.

Goals and assists are one point
Goalie wins are one point, a shut out gets you 2 points

Nice and simple, but it will keep discussions fresh as the season goes by. Feel free to add in some suggestions on the point scheme or any other ideas. Ill put up my Protoype for the PS3 or an xbox 360 game for the winner.

Ideally at least 10 people would make it interesting. I will let someone else hold the subtime, perferably a mod? or maybe Dummy, if that dummy ever fixes his BTR * raspberry *

So if 10 people join, that would be 10 months subtime and a ps3/xbox360 game to the winner. If things go good we can have a playoff one as well after.
