So my 15 year old TV finally broke and I need to buy a new one. I have about 1500 dollars saved up, and I need some help deciding which TV to buy.
As of now, I've only seen 2 TVs that I liked for their price; the 50 inch 720p Panasonic and the 52 inch 1080p Sharp. Those aren't my only choices, they're just TVs that seem to be good value based on their features. Any other suggestions? Which one is better?
Oh, and I have a PS3 that I'm hoping to also use as a Blu Ray player
------------------------------------------
So I ended up buying This for 1065 from Bestbuy! Great deal IMO. Thanks for the advice everyone! |

Nice! I personally think Open Box items are where the best deals are found because they are lightly used and (usually) look and work new |

58" you can get just under 2k for plasma for good brands, once you jump up to 63" there is a pretty significant price jump, looking at 3500+. i suppose the LED lcds price will come down faster, but i dont think we will be seeing the 55" under 2k for a couple of years. and also with plasmas you can get 600 hz vs. 240 on lcd. |

The new Samsung 55" LED can be had for $2000 from Amazon right now actually. So, I don't think it'll be a couple of years even before we see them in the $1500 range.

Oops. My bad. Even though I searched on "Samsung LED 55" at Amazon, the first listing it showed me was an LCD. Sorry about that. You are correct.

when you talk about LED tvs right now it is generally talking about LED backlit LCDs. LEDs allow for higher brightness, the bulbs are able to turn on and offer quicker and more completely giving higher true contrast and from what I have read, it can give better color gamut as well. leds are also better on power and last considerably longer.
that isnt to be confused with OLED (o = organic) which is just starting to really work. |
