I had a feeling Prince would have won it... now if only your Brewers could manufacture runs, then you'd be 5 games ahead in the NL central.

I agree. If I had to pick one of the two, I'd say he stays in Toronto.
The Phillies probably have the pieces if they'll be willing to move them, though. |

Holliday - to the Braves in some sort of Yuni Escobar mix? (fingers crossed)
Halladay - he's staying, or NYY, Phils just signed Pedro / they'd have their plate full of gambles... |

Pedro isn't a gamble IMO. He's making $1 million this year. That's chump change. They put him on the DL already, he will do some rehab starts, if he doesn't pan out, they dump him. The risk is very minimal.
Also, how is Halladay a gamble? He's arguably the most dominant pitcher in the game today.

Today isn't tomorrow, ask Mr. Zito or Mr. Hampton. Pay them big bucks and their incentive to produce marginally diminishes.
That's one gamble, the other is giving up the whole farm to get in that mess. |

Zito really only had 2 seasons, and Hampton had 1 before they got their big contracts and started the downhill slide. Halladay has been great 7 of the last 8 seasons, with 3 Cy Youngs in that span. His contract also runs through 2010.
Comparing Halladay to Zito/Hampton isn't exactly fair...

How could you want to trade Escobar for Halladay? He's hitting .300 on the year as of tonight, and other than Prado, has probably been our most consistent hitter this season.

How bout them Metropolitans?
Why do you think Clay Buchholz was called up for tonight's game against Toronto?
a) to simply give the rest of the starters an extra day off and keep certain starters on a regular schedule
b) to showcase him to the Blue Jays for a potential trade for Roy Halladay
c) to showcase him to another club that the Red Sox may be in discussion with regarding a trade
d) other, please explain |

Ah, I misread that before, sorry about that. Yeah, I like Holliday, I just don't think we would ever trade for yet another OF. We need relief pitching, hopefully we can get rid of KJ somehow and get somebody in before the deadline.

Chipper, Smoltz, Diaz, Frenchy, Glavine, Escobar, Hampton, Soriano, and Gonzalez ( and that's just off the top of my head - thats 5 starters, 2 SP, our set-up man and closer)) were all injured for extended periods last season.

Don't you people know that the greatness of the Mets can't be compared to anything else? Even though your entire team was injured, it is no excuse for your shortcomings....unless you're the Mets.

Why? I wouldn't do it. Regardless of what those 4 turn out to be, why would you trade all of the potential for a guy that the Mets won't be able to afford after next season when he can sign with another team? I'd rather trade two or 3 of those guys for a guy that will demand less money and be almost as much of an impact player such as Cliff Lee. More importantly, yes Halladay is amazing, but giving up our supposed future top outfielder, SS, set up man, and SP (note that all four positions lack any sort of current depth) is just plain stupid. We already have a weak farm system, giving up all 4 for a 32 year old pitcher that won't be back after next year is stupid. We already have the best pitcher in baseball, we now need a bat (we should've gotten Hudson) or a very good #2. |
