Their World Series win is directly related to that play. Without it, they would simply be 1986 NL Champions.

They could have been just NL Champions even with that play.

You could then, therefore, say that any out they made or any run they scored in the World Series was directly related to their WS win.

Kess It's like saying that most home runs shouldn't be counted in Yankee stadium.

Yes because they still had to play game 7 which is a little cheap but Yankee stadium = a crapload of cheap hr's which is major cheap. I can count 100+ cheap hr's in Yankees stadium

I am just shocked that my Reds made it to 75 wins, considering a month ago, they were almost near the Pirates for the worst record in the league, and making a run at the Nats. Now, they look respectable, giving me (prolly false) hope for 2010.

There are definitely a few things to like about the Reds. Votto, especially, looks very promising.

How and when Volquez recovers from the surgery will play a big role too.

It's October and he gave up 9 runs in 2 and 2/3rds. Sure it's just "one start" but when you're an 'elite pitcher' that's going to be at the forefront of a playoff team, you better have an injury as an excuse.

The AL Central has come down to the last day again. The Tigers have choked away a big division lead, letting the Twins tie it up with one game remaining for each. Detroit will be sending out Justin Verlander against John Danks and the White Sox, while the Twins have Carl Pavano matched up against Kansas City's Luke Hochevar.

At this point, I don't see either team being a particularly large threat to the Yankees in the first round. If the Tigers had been playing well with their top starters lined up for the series, I could see them being a threat. If Morneau weren't out, I'd give the Twins a small chance. Even with Sabathia's inability to handle the cold and/or pressure of the playoffs and Burnett's struggles, the Yankees are much better than both of those teams.

I'm going to the Red Sox game today. It's the only one this year, so even though there are likely to be only a few starters, it should be fun. This is also the second consecutive year that I'll be going to the last scheduled regular season game. Buccholz is starting; hopefully he'll rebound from his last start to get a little momentum for game 3 of the ALDS
