Who do you guys hope your team pursues this offseason?
Here's what I'm hoping for Boston:
Sign Matt Holliday - He'd be more expensive than Bay, but I think he's better, with more upside.
Trade for Dan Uggla - I'd really love Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder, but neither are realistic; I might as well be wishing for Hanley Ramirez and Albert Pujols. Uggla would play 3B with Lowell and Ortiz platooning at DH.
Sign Alex Gonzalez - They declined his $6 million option, but could still bring him back for less. He's very good defensively. I'd like them to give Lowrie one more shot to stay healthy and produce, but Gonzalez would be a great backup.
Trade Manny Delcarmen if Wagner accepts arbitration.
Here's what their roster would look like:
CF - Ellsbury
2B - Pedroia
C - Martinez
1B - Youkilis
LF - Holliday
DH - Ortiz
3B - Uggla
RF - Drew
SS - Lowrie
3B - Lowell
SS - Gonzalez
1B - Kotchman
C - Varitek
OF - Hermida
SP - Jon Lester
SP - Josh Beckett
SP - Clay Buchholz
SP - Daisuke Matsuzaka
SP - Tim Wakefield
R/S - Michael Bowden
RP - Ramon Ramirez
RP - Hideki Okajima
RP - Billy Wagner
RP - Daniel Bard
RP - Jonathan Papelbon
They could also trade Casey Kotchman, preferably in a deal for a starting pitcher. |

- Re-sign Pettitte
- Re-sign Matsui 1 yr
- Re-sign Damon 1 yr, 2 max, doubtful with Boras
Maybe take a look at mid tier FA SP's, although none I really like
Roster:
LF - Damon
SS - Jeter
1B - Teixeira
3B - A-Rod
DH - Matsui
C - Posada
2B - Cano
RF - Swisher
CF - Melky
CF - Gardner
C - Cervelli
INF - Pena
Random utility player
SP - Sabathia
SP - Burnett
SP - Pettitte
SP - Hughes
SP - Somebody (If they have to sign somebody, Lackey but nothing more than Burnett money. Otherwise a fill in)
RP - Marte
RP - Coke
RP - Robertson
RP - Aceves
RP - Bruney
RP - Chamberlain
RP - Rivera

So you're content keeping essentially the same team from last year? While it was certainly a great team this year, I'd be afraid of them aging and not having the same motivation and chemistry now that they've won. Staying pat can be dangerous. |

Well I'm not a big Holliday fan. Not sure what the market will set his price at, but I'd rather pass. 1 yr deals due to their ages, the winter 2010 FA class is much better. Matsui as pure DH should be fine for 1 more year. Damon I'm worried about, 1 year stopgap would be it for me. Boras asking for 4 years currently, screw that

For the Mets:
Attempt to trade Castillo coming off a great season then sign Hudson for 2nd base.
Holiday for left or even Dunn in a trade.
Molina for catcher (was on the Giants)
Roy Holiday to add a pitcher
Gonzalez (was the Braves closer) for setup
Adrian Gonzalez from the padres for 1st since they are looking to deal him
All of this will never happen but even a few of these guys would help. |

Whom do you think the Mets would give up for Dunn, Halladay or Gonzalez? I don't think they have anywhere near enough to get either of the last two. |

I'm not sure but we have quite a few decent prospects in the minors like Fernando Martinez , Jon Niese , Eddie Kunz,Josh Thole , Daniel Murphy,Nick Evans and so on. |

Mets might as well sign Holliday, they need a big bat badly. The Mets don't have the farm depth for Halladay or Adrian. Holliday would make the most sense for them though

Agreed completely. Holliday and Hudson would be big acquisitions. If they don't think Martinez is going to be ready this year, a trade for Dunn could make sense too. The farm system is mediocre at best, and they probably don't have what it would take to get Adrian Gonzalez or Roy Halladay. |

Think Toronto backs down on their Halladay demands? They seemed a bit excessive last year, even though we understand that it's Roy and they don't want to give him up for nothing. Last year on Roy's deal though, and we all know he's moving on. Do you think he gets dealt sometime during the year?

Tough to say. I think he'll be traded during the season as opposed to this offseason. I'd expect they'll hold the demand a bit too high for now, then settle for something a little smaller than what the Indians got for Lee. Unfortunately for the Jays, one of the teams that was offering the most last year was the Red Sox and they don't want to trade him within the division.
I expect to continue to hear lots of rumors regarding him for the next few months. |

The Mariners signed Jack Wilson for 2 years and $10. Wilson is below average at the plate, but great defensively. If they resign Beltre, they'd have great fielders at third, shortstop, center field (Gutierrez) and right field (Ichiro). It looks like they could be looking to win on pitching and defense. One interesting notes is that fangraphs ranked Franklin Gutierrez as the most valuable center fielder in baseball last season. |

On MLB Network, they were showing the top in batting averages etc. for the season. The way they did it with a bunch of it abrreviations, it looked like it said Sea of Ichiro Suzuki. Felt like sharing that. |

According to rotoworld.com, the Cubs are in talks with trading MB for Pat Burrell. I'm not quite sure what he played in outfield, as he was a DH last year with the AL (Devil) Rays.
Are steroids really out of the picture? A simple question; not really in regards to anyone I'm talking about, but if Burrell's going from OF to DH, then it should be a cause, not for concern, but for watch, I guess? Look at Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. They started off their careers as grand theft, but ended as home run kings. Burrell's always been a swing for the fences guy, posting 10+ HRs in 10 seasons. Was he just a crapty OF with Philly, cos they're in the National League? If so, can we trade him for Gordon Beckam on the White Sox? He's a great fielder, but may or may not see a lot of playing time next year, even though he was in the ROY contention.
If you could give a crap about CHI sports, then please fudge off. But just be glad that we and you (NY residents) at least have a potential choice to be 'fair-weather' fans).

I think trading Milton Bradley is a good idea for the Cubs.
Burrell was a pretty terrible fielder for the Phillies, which is why he wound up in the AL as a DH. He doesn't seem to make much sense for the Cubs, at least to me at first glance.
Beckham is worth a hell of a lot more than either Burrell or Bradley. What makes you think he might not see much playing time? As long as he's healthy, he should be an everyday player. I know they just traded for Teahen, but he's not going to block Beckham. If the actually decide to start Teahen at third, Beckham would play second. |

Beckham's playing 2B next season while Teahen is taking over 3B. This just in: Pat Burrell sucks

Granderson sounds like a decent target for the Cubs. The Tigers might be willing to deal him for a good prospect package. |
