Alright, so considering everyone has a problem with what I'm trying to do here - explain why. Give me that at least. Back up your posts by telling me why it's such a bad thing in a legitimate, sensible way - seriously. If I'm doing something wrong, I'd like to know what it is.

Its cause we all want the same answer you are asking. No one likes to work but sometimes its the man thing to do. Just get a part time job where some nice looking girls work at and you will be thanking me later.

Errr...I'm not trying to avoid work. I fully intend to get a job, I just don't want one RIGHT NOW. If that's seriously why everyone's raggin on me...I mean geez, if you guys don't like your jobs, fine. Don't take it out on me.

You're getting ragged on because you're dismissing any real advice that's been given to you. Mowing lawns, landscaping, restaurant server, grocery store, roller rink attendant, go work at a bowling alley, marina, etc.
All of this stuff can be part time (15-20 hrs. a week). Just find something you'd think you'd enjoy and go for it.

You hate Grocery stores so you don't want to work there? Fudge off, lmao. Are you kidding me? Do you know how many unemployed people in this country would take a job at a grocery store because they can't find employment elsewhere?

It's called life. If you WANT money, do something for it like the rest of the country and work for it.

100+ Degrees in Texas hasn't stopped the dozens and dozens of lawn care providers from doing their work. Do you think they LIKE doing it? Probably not. But that's how they make money.

That's right... you don't have to do it because you don't like it -- but guess what? You also don't have money... Good luck living without that this summer. It's hard to go do crap with friends when you're poor and broke.

PS: I love my job.

I only work about 15 hours a week (I'm a full time student too), but I make a little money getting stuff off Craigslist, garage sales, and thrift stores and flipping it to eBay. You can do pretty good, as long as you stay selective and only buy the stuff you can make a profit off of. I live in KC though, the deals may not be as abundant if you live somewhere rural.

Well Dave, if it was a necessity that I got a job, then yes, I would work wherever I could get one. As it is, I'm 16 and still in school. Still live at home. I don't NEED a job right now. And the money I get would be worked for - for the umpteenth time, I'm not looking for free money. I want to work for it. In fact I wouldn't take free money if it was OFFERED to me. I'd find a way to work for it. But people who do yardwork in 100+ degrees are either people who do that because they need a job and can't find another one, or people who choose to do that because they like doing it.

And Coach - I got ragged on way before anyone even recommended anything. I got bashed from the very beginning.
The yardwork stuff as I said is fine, provided the temperature drops. I would be doing that now, but since the temperature is so high, I'm asking for other ideas. And honestly - the thought of hands-on type work, outdoorsy stuff is a helluva lot better than a grocery store. Only problem is there's nothing like that around here. But until I need a job, I don't see why I should go work at a grocery store simply because it's the only thing available.
Don't have any roller rinks.
A bowling alley is actually a better idea than grocery stores, but you're the first one to recommend it. We actually have one close by, so I might check that out and see if they're hiring. Thanks for the idea.

And trust me - I am trying to find something I'd enjoy doing. There is a huge problem in that however - the job choices here are fast food places and grocery stores. I wouldn't like doing either of those. The bowling alley idea sounds good though.

Isaac - I don't really buy stuff only to sell it, unless I could make a huge profit off of it. I don't really have the time to try to find deals like that though.

Alright well see here's the thing - since I don't need a job right now I have the luxury of being able to choose a place to work that I like. In a couple years I won't have that luxury and as such I'd like to take full advantage of it now while I can. I'm only 16. All of you are at the point where you need a job to make a living. So give me a damn break. Until I absolutely need a job, do you really think it's better to have a crappy job and be miserable for it than to look for alternative work?

Alright just forget it. I still don't understand why everyone has a problem with temporary work but whatever. Makes no difference to me. If it's too much to ask, fine. It's not us with the problem. You rejected everyones ideas. Some of us suggested odd jobs which you found ways around. Your first job does not have to be your career. I have worked at the same place since I was 15 (which was before I was even legally allowed to work) and have no intention of making it a career

See...I asked for ideas. That doesn't mean the first one is gonna be the one I choose to do. I just wanted possibilities; none of the stuff suggested sounded good to me except the bowling alley idea. The lawn care stuff was recommended by multiple people; it all counts as one. I'm not 'finding ways around it', I'm saying I don't want to do it. I am aware that my first job doesn't have to be a career...but I'd still like to work somewhere I enjoy working at while I can.

Doesn't matter anymore anyway - I managed to overlook a local Big Lots store for quite a while, but I realized it was there a few hours ago, and I'm planning to apply there tomorrow or Thursday.

Did I not say I was going to apply for a job a few posts ago? If I was 19, like you, and I didn't have a job, THEN I would be qualified for getting flamed. Even 18. But since I'm only 16, not having a job is fairly trivial. Why it's such a big deal to everyone is beyond me.
