Going to camp tomorrow morning, after see if I can get a LG Blount or Marcellus! Wallace (Bennett) jersey on clearance at the pro shop. Interested to see Cooks and new guys in action.

Anybody else checking out their teams in camp?

We also decided that while we still like the Falcons, the Eagles are our favorite NFC squad.

To be fair, I think that was most of us...
This should be a really good game. Will be interesting to see how successfully the defense will be at getting to Brady.
But since I live in Boston, I'm not sure if I can take losing to the Patriots again...

well, if history has taught us anything about the Pats in the SB, its that regardless of who wins its going to be a close game. I don't think the teams have been separated by more than 4 points by the end of regulation in any of their appearances. My question is if there is enough tape on Foles for the Pats to be fully prepared and if Gronk will clear concussion protocol by the time the game starts. Those will probably be the two biggest factors leading up tot he game.

Pats could be losing up to 6 coaches this offseason, so one would think next year would give the rest of the AFC a chance to topple them.

I would say the Philly/Pats previous SB was very competitive, Eagles just couldn't run the offense fast enough to tie or lead at the end.

Details of game/clock/personnel management are key to beating Pats, lots of teams have the players, but mistakes are killer. You could argue that delay of game penalty at the close of the first half on Jags was critical. Small error, big reversal.

As long as the Pats have BB then they're good since he pretty much runs the show.

We are all fans of the Emperor fershure, but the coordinators do a magnificent job in their areas of expertise. BB is terrific, but the fact that he has developed great staff allows him to manage the organization and game time as well as he does.

Last time the team lost senior staff 2004 it took three years to get back, with some stumbles along the way.

I'm not sure how the Pats will defend both Blount and Ajayi, I think they will have their hands full with those two. If Foles come in as nervous as he did against Falcons then that cause them some serious issues against the Pats. Should make for a fun game.

Maybe fun story? I call Mike Vrabel half ass because he half assed everything in training camp with the Chiefs. During stretching he'd just stand there until the coach leading it turned towards him and then he'd make half an attempt to stretch. He didn't really practice hard either. Hard to imagine he'd put the necessary effort into coaching.

Looks like wink and nod coaching agreements between McDaniels with Colts and Patricia with Lions.

Since Cards hired, Brian Flores of Pats might stay and become the DC, still have some teams pursuing other Pats coaches for promotions, so unknown.

So all HC jobs filled except for Colts and Lions now?

Looking forward to Eagles stories coming!

I feel they can pressure Brady quite a bit, but once they get tired and can't contain him, that's when Brady may start picking them apart. They need to jump out to an early lead and make the Eagles abandon the run, AA and LB can cause some serious issues for the Pats front 7.

No one, hes going to be double or triple teamed which will probably leave Lewis, Amandola, and Cooks getting a lot of 1-on-1 matchups. This seems like a game where Edelman being in the slot would help out a lot if the O-line can't contain the pass rush.

That's the climate we live in, unfortunately.

With the NFL ratings taking a hit though, and for the reported reasons as to why they've taken a hit, I think something like the XFL could work. They seem like they're investing much more time into it this go around and not just throwing it together in a few months. THeres a good documentary on their 1st attempt, and they pretty much didn't even have teams, rosters, or training camps set up until just before the first game. It was a hodgepodge mess because they went into it way too unorganized. Some planning, mixed with the NFL's ratings hit, and this thing may work.

Big asterisk , won a superbowl with the Steelers riding that bench with Ben at the helm.

With the major networks having at least one game with the NFL I don't see this being on network television, probably will be on USA Network...

Apparently cleveland actually made a similar offer to smith but he (rightfully so) chose the redskins over the browns. I don't know what Denver's cap space is, but I imagine they make a push.

Chief's reportedly got a third round pick and Kendall Fuller (cb). He grades highly on PFF (for whatever that's worth) and it frees up like $15M in cap. Interesting trade I didn't see coming. Bring on Mahomes!

Denver is reported to shop Talib during the off season, and the Rams are the most likely candidate to pick him up. That would free up like $11m and they're not paying anything substantial for a QB right now since they've got 3 people combined making a total of about $2m/year.

Because of the Smith amount and length of contract, or the player and draft pick they gave up?

I would agree that Skins are not nearly in a position to challenge Eagles though, not sure what Dallas really is now, and Giants are in a bit of a redo, so Skins looking at last again?

It's really a combination of everything. I don't hate Smith by any means, but I didn't want the Chiefs to keep him given what his cap number was. So the Redskins are paying a lot for Smith based on what he is figured to be next season and they gave up a very good young player that is making peanuts.

Guy was rated as the best slot corner who could play outside as well. Chief's needed to do something at corner. Also has 2 years left on his rookie deal (less than $1M per). Read a lot of negative pub (on this trade) from Washington's side.

On a side note, I can't believe they are letting Cousins walk for basically nothing, maybe a compensatory pick. I'm sure Denver is the lead candidate, they have some cap space to play with.

I'd love to see the Jags sign Cousins but I don't think they will. They can cut Bortles 19m, Allen Hurns 11m, and Chris Ivory 4m, and have the $ to start off year one.

All thier modern contracts , save Bortles are front loaded the first two years. If Jags sign Cousins, it's tight in 2018 with relief coming in 2019, 2020. Will definitely need to lean on our rookies and draftees. And no amazeballs signings like in 2017 in FA other than Cousins.

I believe Osweiler only signed a 1-year. He was good the year they won the SB, went like 5-0 or 5-1 including a win against the Pats. Semian has shown flashes, but isn't consists. Some blame also falls on their coaches.
KCPenguins

And their dreadful offensive line. Osweiler will be a URFA.

Vikings could also make a run, although Keenum/TB would be cheaper.

It will be interesting to see. If I were Cousins I'd visit everyone before signing, and I wouldn't immediately rule out Cleveland. They have a decent O-line, Josh Gordon (if he turned it around), some other good young talent and a lot of draft capital with a GM known for scouting. They could be one good draft and a coach away from contending in 2019.

Interesting criticism of Elway, stayed with Tebow, then made an aggressive successful pitch to Peyton, wanted to but unable to resign OS, drafted Simien?, drafted Lynch (who else was available in later rounds then).

Built a title team with a short window without a triggerman. Wonder how things would have
gone with a resigned Osweiler for continuity.

It would be in the Brown's best interests to get into a bidding war with Denver. Give Cousin's his 30ish mil a year, that way the demand for a rookie QB is at a all time high during the draft and they can ask for a king's ransom (again) . Question is , do they get a rookie QB as well in the 1st if they get Cousin's.

Other than Dak, nobody. I still can't fathom how they are so far under the cap? Who did they have to blow to do that?
KCPenguins

They drafted relatively well on defense, and Talib was pretty cheap for what he gave them. They also left solid players walk rather than over pay. The biggest failure has been their O-line, more so than QB. They also rarely have dead cap $ under Elway.

Denver has been penalized for skirting the cap in their 90's runs.

Chris Harris Jr also took less to stay in Denver than hit FA, so that saved them some dough as well. They're also not really spending anything on RB, who do they have other than Anderson and Booker? Out of their 3 QBs, 2 are still under rookie contracts and the other they got for like $1m this past season. Only person they're really paying a lot for are Von Miller and D. Thomas.

I say it will mainly come down to what Foles want to do..

Foles could say yeah I want to go and make money... or he could say i want to stay here (aka Philly would have to do something with him before trade deadline

First - He was drafted by the eagles and had some great years here (I still say Eagles gave up on him to soon) but it all worked out to get Wentz and not Marcus Mariota -

Coming back because he wanted to be back with the Eagles... and Boom - wins the city a Super Bowl and gets name MVP!!

The GM listens to trade offers for Foles and pull the trigger if a great deal comes along. As well-liked as Foles is, he won't have control over his situation since he's under contract for 1-more year. The Eagles might be able to work an extension with him, but highly unlikely unless Foles chooses to take less money, as his value is at an all time high right now for trading purposes.

Ertz was definitely a TD since he established himself as a runner.
James is a little more questionable, and by rule, was not a TD. But common sense suggests him catching the ball in the air and extending the ball over the goal line is a football move and thus should be a TD.

hopeful that the league evens up the rule, that whether runner or receiver, once you cross the goal line ruled possession of the ball, play is over and a TD.

I'm not even sure why people are questioning Clements TD either. If you watched the replay, even after he adjusted his grip, the foot that landed out of bounds scraped the turf first (lost of pebbles flew up).

gronk talk is thought to be about leverage for money, he would make less next year than this, so he could retire and do celebrity stuff,
but seems he would prefer to play a little longer if he can get closer to #1 receiver dough. Martellus playing next year or no?

Clement played great, Eagles sitting pretty going forward

Ertz caught the ball - made a football move (aka established himself as a runner) dove into endzone

now I couldnt tell if the ball hit the ground... but even if it did - you can say it was a fumble more then anything and the ball bounce up right back to him haha

Clement did really good.. he has been great since Sproles went down..
(Darren Sproles been working with Clement during the whole playoff which is awesome)

Darth Hoodie did it to the Jets before he went to New England. One of the NFL network insiders said McD was to be one of the highest paid head coaches with his Indianapolis deal. There's no way the Pats would pay him even half of what the Colts were to pay him.

Colts play in Foxboro next season, renew the rivalry! Sunday night?

Not looking like there is more to story then Kraft wanting to keep some stability for the team going forward, speculation on Belichick future rampant but nothing substantial.

We are still talking about Malcolm, the Emperor's invincibility pierced a bit, Mal obviously a fan fave even after bad season, would seem certain he's leaving as UFA next month.

Is it a rivalry if Luck is not playing? It may be crazy, but do they pick a QB at #3? My thinking is they trade back as the Jets and Broncos are chomping at the bit to get whatever QB scraps are left after Darnold and Rosen, especially if the Giants don't draft one at #2.

i have been a Jacoby Brissette fan since he was drafted here, cannon arm, good legs, improving consistently. IDK what the colts think of him going forward, he certainly made some plays for them. We thought he was heir apparent here, knowing Jimmy G wanted to
start somewhere next year.

Colts need lotta guys on D, another playmaker or two on O, but the rivalry in place, Luck or no Luck, Pats have owned him in the last several games played. Deflategate lives!

Might have to run with Bristtette, literally unless they shore up that O line. At least play to his strengths, and USE MACK MORE!!! Honestly they were better than they were if you consider both of their lines were bottom 5.

Ken Norton Jr did it this year (9ers to Hawks), but he apparently put a clause in his contract that allowed for it. With Josh it was all verbal.

I felt bad for the assistants who signed with the Colts because of McDaniels agreeing to be their HC. It didn't take too long for the agent to make his stance known.

Can't say this enough. The injury to Wentz was much more severe than anyone initially thought. There's a chance he may not be 100% when the regular season starts. For that reason, you keep Foles. Everyone clamoring to trade him now because his value is high seems to be missing three key factors: 1. The Eagles have literally no cap space. You will not find a better backup that can be inserted into the offense for less than his cap hit next season, which is $7.6M. 2. If Wentz isn't ready to go or goes down again, you'll regret getting rid of Foles. 3. Say a team offers you a 2nd round pick (I think that's the highest teams will go). You're now in a situation where you probably have to spend that pick on a QB anyway, unless you really feel like Nate Sudfeld can win games.

I think Foles is happy here, and he doesn't strike me as a guy looking to bag a huge payday. If he does want a huge payday, he'll get it at the end of next season, even if he doesn't play a down next year. He'll be a free agent, and the last memory teams will have of him is being a SB MVP.

Foles has got to be very content in Philly now, toast of the town, more cred than you can imagine, good backup money.

Ancillary income locally and possibly nationally is coming his way, so there's that.

Roseman is not moving him until hand forced, Foles not going to push it, happy marriage and insurance. It will be interesting to see what happens when Wentz is ready to play, but that's a good problem to have. Championship provides a nice grace period in Philly even.

It'll be hard to turn down a starting job and what, 30-40 million guaranteed? Alex Smith got 70 million, Glennon got ~20M what is Foles' potential?

He genuinely doesn't seem like that type of guy. He was ready to quit like a year or two ago, and he was fine with that because of the money he'd already made. Also, he's had success in one style of offense only, which is kind of a college style. After his amazing 2013 season, teams figured him out and in 2014, he was mediocre. In St. Louis, he was bad. Not really all his fault, as Jeff Fisher is a coach that destroys QB's, but still. And then this season, he struggled down the stretch in the regular season. Pederson went back and blended the Chip Kelly offense into his offense for the playoffs, and it worked phenomenally. It's a strange style to run, and I don't feel like it's a style most coaches would be willing to implement. Lastly, you have to put a good team around Foles to be successful. If you're the Browns, Jets or Cardinals, he probably isn't going to do much for you. He could possibly work in Denver or the Giants, but you have to decide if giving up probably a second round pick and changing your offense for a 29-year-old guy is better than spending a top 5 pick on a 21-year-old who could be the face of your franchise for 12+ years.

Peters must really have a crapty personality to dump him for a less talented, more expensive player (if they pursued Talib or Johnson, I don't think they do). He did stupid stuff (they going to trade Kelce too?), but he never got in real trouble.

I was excited for the Mahomes era, but this puts a damper on it. Peters was their best defensive talent (includes Berry and Houston).

I hate having Bob Sutton as the DC. If they take a big step back this year I'd be fine with dumping Reid for the sole reason of keeping Sutton. Sutton is his out if they suffer a big set back.

Only report I can find is the Ram's 1st (23rd) and 5th. What a steal for the Rams.

This could literally cost the Chief's decision makers their jobs. If the defense blows and costs them games while Peters plays similar to his first few years the fans will turn fast!

What did you expect the Jags to do? Morgage their future with Cousins and his 30+ million a year, especially when they need to sign Ramsey, Jack and Yannick in two years.

And with their draft position (29th) and the number of QB needy teams ( I count 6 dire needs) there are not enough QB's to go around.

Re-up on O line men and receivers ,maybe drop that bum Lee and resign Hurns to a reasonable deal and hope for the best in 2018. From what I hear its not a backbreaking contract and is VERY incentive laden.

will need to see contract details, but I thought Bortles took big steps last season, played well in playoffs. Seems that Jax is going with dominating defensive presence, consistent ground game and a QB good enough to win under that philosophy.

What's the story with JAX receivers? Did they just extend TE Mercedes Lewis too?

Marquise Lee the human drop machine and Allen Robinson (2017 on IR) are both for contract renewal. I think Allen Hurns has 2 years left on his expensive contract, so I think he will probally need his contract redone. Dede Westbrook plays the Lee role sans the drops so I think Lee is as good as gone. And Cole is another good undrafted free agent find.

Mercades Lewis will retire a Jaguar , I don't think he has a big cap hit, more used as a blockers and short yardage situation.

In the draft the Jags need O line and a receiving tight end.

I think they also need a starting WR. Hurns is expensive and unreliable, Lee is star in his mind only, and Westbrook & Cole were hot and cold late season and playoffs. I think Bortles could be a top 12 or so QB with a little line help, good receiving TE, and legit starting WR to pair with AR15.

So that Fuller kid from Redskins is his replacement, and they don't have a 1st round pick right (Mahomes trade is now Bills pick), do you think they go hard on a free agent with the little money they have left against the cap?

They should have about $25 million barring any surprises, which honestly is the most I remember them having in awhile. (They have given out some bad contracts over the years.) I don't expect any big splashes.

I still find it hard to believe someone with Peter's credentials and no health concerns only had 2 teams vaguely interested in aquiring him on his rookie contract. Every team knew he was available, and even the (horrible backfield) Raiders didn't offer.
