It's time for the annual (bi-annual?) GameTZ Secret Santa Christmas 2018! (Our thanks to CygnusTM for organizing these years ago. Now I run them on my own server using a modified version of his old code.)
Any subscriber without a current BTR that has earned a Bronze Star () is eligible to sign up (unless you've been previously banned). If you do not meet these requirements and still wish to participate, you can contact me directly to request an exception to this rule. I rarely grant them, sorry.
For those of you doing this for the first time, just read ALL of this post carefully and then ask for help here if you are still confused.
As always, we will be using a subtime "bond" (10 weeks for all participants) to encourage people to follow through on sending. Bonds should be sent to me (John) and I will hold them until your partner receives their gift. You can use this link to transfer Subtime to me. If you don't have enough GameTZ subtime for your bond, then you can buy subtime from the site! or make your own arrangements with another user. Bonds will ONLY be returned directly to the user that the bond is for. If arrangements are made for someone else to put up the bond for a Secret Santa user, it does not matter to me and I won't get involved -- the bond will still be returned to the participating user (or kept if they do not provide their gift) regardless of who actually paid the bond in their behalf. Participants will get their bond back in full when your partner marks their gift as received.
Signups are open now and will continue until Monday, December 10th at ~3pm Eastern. Partners will then be assigned and emailed out later that day. Gifts must be received by Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24th. At that time, anyone who hasn't yet received their gift may (at my discretion depending on the situation) receive one-half of their Santa's subtime bond. If a gift still isn't received after an additional week, then the remaining half may be awarded. Plus you'll be ridiculed here for being a douche. And might get banned from future Secret Santas. Sending and receiving will be tracked through the signup site. It is very important that you update the site as soon as you send and receive so the subtime bond can be handled appropriately.
The target gift value is $10-20 US. Gifts MUST be worth a minimum of $10 US not including shipping. Every effort should be made to send a complete item. If you are sending something used, it should be complete and in at least "very good" condition. This is not a way to unload your unwanted crap.
People anywhere in the world may participate! If you are from outside the USA, you must mark the "Outside USA" checkbox when you sign up. Anyone from outside the USA must be willing to ship anywhere in the world. Users in the USA that are willing to ship anywhere in the world should mark the "Ship Anywhere" checkbox in your account settings and you may or may not be partnered with someone outside the USA.
Tips/Rules: You can't re-use your account from last time if you participated before -- you need to create a new one for each and every Secret Santa event. Look at your partner's wants and check his/her lists and posts. Put the same effort into selecting a gift for your partner that you would want someone else to put into yours. If your partner has inadequate "wants", don't give up! Try to figure it out. If you really get stuck, try a gift card or something like that! Make sure you provide adequate "wants" for your Santa. There should be at least 4-5 things on your list that fit in the target price/value range. When you get assigned a partner, start figuring out what you are going to get them! Immediately. Don't wait until the last minute! I'd prefer that people NOT talk so much about how they are going to do "great/special/extra gifts" and such if they happen to want to do that. The real intent is that people just exchange gifts that are worth around $15 or so and, hopefully, people will be happy with what they get. Don't brag that you're going to give more -- and don't get overly high expectations that someone is going to give you extra. In most cases, the person that you are assigned to is NOT the same person that is assigned to you. In other words, you aren't just making a 1-to-1 exchange with someone. You're buying a gift for someone that, most likely, is buying a gift for someone else entirely. Send your bond ONLY as a single transfer for exactly 10 weeks. Do not send multiple pieces of a bond until you reach your total. And do not use the "all" option because you don't have the full bond (i.e. you borrowed it and then had to send it 8 hours later, so you really only have 95% of the bond). You should be sending me exactly 10 weeks -- nothing else. After you've received your gift, post in this thread thanking your Santa for what you received -- just so they know you appreciate whatever it was! (Or, if you've figured out who your Santa is somehow, you can just thank them privately if you'd rather.) Don't leave your Santa hanging without acknowledging their gift! No more organized thank-you gifts to John! I greatly appreciate the gifts that have been given in the past, but I really don't want it to be a habit. I run this for fun for people. I expect nothing more. And getting such things makes me feel guilty! So, seriously, just enjoy the gift-giving and I'm all set as far as thanks go!
Some people suck. Despite our best efforts, people might still get stiffed. If you don't intend to follow through on your commitment here, please do not sign up.
Please keep discussions in this thread about the SS only, so things get don't out of hand like in the past. Off-topic posts may be removed!
This graphic will track who has signed up and bonded so far:
Looks like I may have to skip this year. We're leaving for our cruise on the 14th and won't be back until the 22nd, so it's an awfully tight window for me to get gifts and get them shipped if I get someone that doesn't have some fairly easily attainable items on their list. I'll have to think about it, but have fun regardless!
I'm trying to hold out for gifts arriving for some other ss (including the other one here) because I don't want to end up with something twice. Looks like it might not be possible to wait it out but I will sign up by the 10th for sure.
It's usually not too bad. I tell people when we start to give it a day or two for people to do final updates. Otherwise, right when it starts, I get 10 PMs going "My partner doesn't have anything on his list!!!!?!!!".
Don't get me wrong, I don't feel it necessary for my SS to just stick to my want lists. I like Nintendo, myself, but with what games I already have and the systems I have to play them on, I'm trying to refrain from adding another system (Switch) to my already pile of unplayed games. I will eventually get one as I liked seeing some of the games on it.
I see people ask this all the time. You don't need an even number of people since everyone is matched with someone different. Imagine you are in a big circle and you just give a gift to someone on the right. Doesn't matter odd/even.
Not sure what to do about @kevster. He posted a while back that he signed up and bonded, but I didn't get any bond from him. I just went through and double-check all of my System Messages for transfers just to make sure.
@John You may very well be the most powerful man on GameTZ right now. You have at least 420 weeks of subtime, enough for a little over 8 years. Good thing you're a great guy and always run this really well :)
Your subscription will expire on 3-Mar-2020. There are 449 days left to your subscription.
I do renew it once in a while. There was a time in the past when people sent me a lot of subtime and I had a lot. But, I also transfer some out regularly (more in the past when free trials were more common).
I actually got my want list ready to go before this launched. Didn't receive anything from a few other SS yet but I managed to think of a few specific items as well as a vague option that wasn't on any other want list.
Oh and I have quite a bit of credit with ForgottenFreshness still, so whoever I get might be in for a nice surprise. :)
I just finished Get Out, I love everything about this movie. It has a random ass plot but it works so damn well. There's a lot of nods to the old grindhouse etc movies. Tomorrow night I'll watch A Quiet Place.
> Yeah, I check the box but the SS password is never saved...
I use a paid app called Dashlane. 99 percent of the time it works great, auto generating strong passwords, changing passwords on the fly after security breaches and saving them across all my devices. The other 1 percent it flops since it can't autodetect password management on custom sites.
Got my SS gift today - a new copy of mutant football league on the PS4! I literally just put this on my wanted list within the last few days, man did my SS act fast haha . Thanks SS, really appreciate it, you did awesome ! If you wanna pend a trade shoot me an offer, no pressure though ! :)
Crapty! I totally forgot about getting MLF for PS4. I was at Momocon where the company that revamped it for new consoles was showing it off... I was freaking hooked!! I was told to have expected the physical copies around summer this year, but maybe I misheard.
Also, I got 2 weeks of subtime, so thanks whoever for that!
To whoever is my Secret Santa, thanks a ton. After a hard day at work I can home to wanted posters of the straw hat crew from One Piece, a Piccolo POP figure, all the Librarian movies and Final fantasy the Spirits within blu-ray.
This thing is really cool, all 24 pieces look like actual bottle caps! I honestly didn't even know Fallout themed checkers was a thing, so I was extremely surprised when I opened it up. Whoever you are, thank you so much! Super thoughtful and creative
That's pretty sweet. I guess it's about time for a Chucky remake.
I had found out about Robert the Doll during one of my insomnia episodes, while reading weird articles online. He can be visited in the Florida Keys. Supposedly if you DON'T ask his permission to take a photo, it always turns out blurry and bad crap can happen to you. Tempting to try and test it, but I don't know... we might go visit this summer. I have been wanting to go somewhere beachy for a while. So if we do, visiting him will be on the list.
You're welcome!! I tried to give variety, but those One Piece posters I really had to get because it's a favorite anime of mine for sure! I need to get back on it. I'm still way behind from what I remember on Crunchyroll.
I got the last part of my gift in the mail today, Yakuza 0! So all together I got Injustice 2 and Yakuza PS4, and vudu codes for Get Out and A Quiet Place. Thanks a ton santa! My holidays are gonna be a ton of fun thanks to you!
To my Secret Santa...YOU ARE AMAZING. This is literally the best Christmas package I've ever received! THANK YOU SO FREAKIN' MUCH. Couldn't believe it when I saw the Neo Geo Mini in there. Such a thoughtful and generous gift to go along with all the other amazing items! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I was ready to thank Forgotten_Freshness, until I realized that he isn't participating. So thanks a lot @Gypsy ?!? And thanks @Forgotten_Freshness for shipping out! I appreciate the creative fake name (its Lomeo), and I am really looking forward to playing this!
My Secret Santa went above and beyond! In addition to humorous update messages from Santa, he/she managed to obtain for me a copy of Meat Puppet, an old and obscure isometric shooter from 1997. I've had that game on my wanted list forever; never thought I'd be able to remove it! Thanks very much Secret Santa, whoever you are.
I feel like this needs to be memorialized as a trade....
Yeah, I just Googled the Sharper Image DX-1 and it looks like the quad fits inside with the batteries. Look and see! Otherwise, it is hilarious to get a remote (and I see the charger too, I think!) and no quad!
Ahhhh yah, there's stuff on the inside of the remote, derp!
Man, my SS is making me feel like I did a crap job. I spent more than I was supposed to, but I feel like I failed on the creativity part. This stuff was seriously awesome. Just taking the time to write up a few things put so much more feeling into it.
I received my SS gift today, woot!! I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised. I got a bunch of "the new 52" comics and judging by the covers these should be a fun read! Thanks a bunch @classicrock909 and Merry Christmas!!!
> @Ry4n2109 has more SS gifts on the way. I'm just a messenger.
He sent too much >:(
Seriously... thank you so much whoever you are. That was extremely generous, especially for a complete stranger!
My fiance and I absolutely loved the Christmas props. She already took pictures of our poor puppy with them lol. I'm sure the family will love them too on Christmas Day. Thank youuuu!!
And you know I'm going to have a blast playing Ni No Kuni II. It's actually been a while since I've sat down and played an RPG. I literally couldn't believe it when I opened that package! Again, thank you so much!!
Thank you so much Secret Santa I received a bunch of Fallout goodies that I will display with pride and send a picture of when I figure out how lol
I will send my gift out tomorrow, my apologies my father in law went in the hospital with pneumonia and now there are tests being done to see if he has lung cancer. It will be a hospital Christmas for the family. But hey one day at a time.
I did some recon and found a very old post which may have helped me out by searching the word "favorite" and going into archived posts. I got you, jerk. Muahahahaha. Expect the second part of your gift shortly after Christmas (hopefully).
I am thou..thou art I.. from Japan.. holy crap.. santa.. I just don't even know what to say except.... Arigato!
Wake up get up get out there!!
The pics don't do it justice..the box is oozing with as much style as the figure and the game itself. This thing is sick! Also MGS 5 definitive edition which I took a shot of but for some reason didn't save I'll have to get another.
My daughter was like you're never opening that are you? lol
