So disheartening to see. Understandable, sure, because long have the days of GTZ chat not been at 30+ people on any given night. Nearly all of my trades were made in chat and not through the forums. I won't be joining the Discord channel because I have fond memories of the grandeur that GTZ once was. .
If you post a link to a picture, it displays it. If you drag a photo file to the chat window, it displays it. No need for imgur.
I can snap a photo from my iPhone, send to Apple drive, spin my chair to my iMac and drag/drop the file to the discord window. In minutes. I'm going to do just that, in the trades chat channel. See something you want, contact me to pend a trade on here.
Interesting... I've just gotten on to Discord through the volunteering at Dragon Con Video Game track this year... I don't have voice setup though... I'll likely fix that when I get my main PC back up and running.
thats cool how the new gtz chat's ran by a dude from stormfront who's been here 2 years that posted my mom's obituary .. about to say peace to this site after spending a higher fraction of my life on this site than any other user ... church
Have fun being a huge douchebag wannabe alpha male womanhater Dust, it was really cool how you ruined the fantasy league since you didn't know Jose Ramirez was amazing in fantasy baseball because of his generic hispanic name
It's kind of hard to fight when the dude who posts your mom's obituary has had you filtered like a pussy for a year and is still talking crap about you after bill tells you to fight your own fights though
Sam, I'm not talking crap about ya. I'm past all of the B.S. I only did the obituary thing because I wanted ya to stop being a dick. If you're capable of doing so, I don't care to unfilter, and let ya back on chat. I actually want ya there, it's been pretty fun. Lots of people on there, and trying to come up with ways to make it more fun to use.
Seems like most of the people complaining about the Politics forum don't even use it. Not sure why it bothers them so much. It was moved out of General like they wanted, but that's not good enough any more. Are their feuds starting in Politics and then spilling over into the rest of the site or something? That's the only valid complaint I can think of. I haven't been as active here lately, so I haven't really noticed anything.
Just on the very obvious surface, every non-politics related website with a team of mods does away with political discussion in general. It's polarizing by nature. If "site image" is really what's at stake here with the removal of loans and chat, then the politics forum is the next logical step for that reason alone.
But digging deeper, OUR politics forum is not so much a "politics forum" as it is a "right-wing forum" where any differing opinion is immediately shut down with a gang-up, meme culture mentality. Not saying you personally @Scott, you tend to be more on the civil side - but there's a real valid reason people who are critical of the politics forum don't use it and it's not because they don't have political opinions. There are very rarely any legitimate ideological conversations in that forum between two people with differing political views, it's usually just right-wing folks talking amongst themselves about the policies they see fit. Which isn't innately an issue. The issue is that any progressive or even slightly liberal opinion is met with disdain, memes, jokes, and/or bullcrap of that nature. And that behavior is normalized to an extent because we're on a video game website where political opinions don't hold any water past "man I don't like that internet avatar's opinion", so the "gamer" trolling mentality flourishes. And that's fine with literally any other topic besides the innately personal and polarizing topic of politics - it's all fun and games until you start to impede on somebody's way of life with some trolly meme or sarcastic edgy response.
But then not even counting the one-sided nature of the conversations in there, there are also posts with people like POG painting genocide as a positive, insinuating segregation is necessary, victim blaming, calling false flags on mass shootings, calling out different ethnicities anytime there's a big violent happening, so on and so forth. Some of those things can be presented as a political ideal, but with certain people in certain situations, it becomes blatant grandstanding.
It's a video game site. It attracts gamers. Most gamers on a video game site are on the video game site to talk video games or movies or the like. There's a very certain type of gamer who comes to a video game site to talk politics and no offense meant to anybody, but I feel those are the gamers who are only confident in talking about such things via anonymous internet monikers. After all, like I've said a bunch, there are political forums folks could visit if their actual intent was to talk politics and not just tout their own political opinions among like-minded individuals.
> I left the politics forum because it was filled with racists and Trump cultists.
> I came -this close- to leaving the site completely because of it.
> Neg me all you want. Moderate me, as well. It's true. Don't deny it.
I have PMs in my inbox from users who have left the site due to feeling uncomfortable by the Muslim-bashing that has happened in a few of the political threads. So it's absolutely true, though some will absolutely deny it.
I'd consider even one user here to trade/talk video games straight up leaving the site over the "political" discussion found on it an issue.
EDIT: not sure if shadow neggers are negging because they don't believe me or they just want to keep the kinda intolerant status quo rollin'.
I just sent nines a long reply about it. I really haven't looked at it closely/recently. There has been some trouble (dracula getting complaints recently for being "bigoted"; Karaiya left the site after complaining about it; some existing feuds have a basis in political disagreements).
I get the impression the Politics forum is dominated by right-leaning people who think there's nothing wrong with it; while left-leaning people disagree (see racism, etc.). Personally, I've seen some very antagonistic stuff there.
Making it private may make sense. As the 2020 election season heats up, we may want to brace for it in some way.
All of you complaining are the most guilty of what you're complaining about. Obviously things get heated in that forum, that's the nature of political discussions sometimes, but I recall several times where these users came over to troll, make a snide comment/rant, or worse... start insulting users (also wishing me dead because I voted for and support Trump).
Don't get me wrong, I can handle it and it's really a sign none of you have anything important to add to the conversations over there. It's just an emotional dump for some of you. Now you want it scrubbed from the site because YOUR trolling didn't work.
How about just ignore the forum if you don't like it?
