The Review Team will determine if a steal needs to be revised, or if further action is needed. Any questions about a steal, you can message me or one of these great users below! The Review Team has the right to interject at anytime if needed to help regulate. We do not pre-review steals, veto or judge them...the thread should flow normally and we will only step in when necessary. These members are still able to participate in the thread. If you would like to assist, send me a PM!
Concept: The idea is a Pay-It-Forward concept... getting great deals to offer up great deals. This isn't an opportunity to offload your unwanted junk...If you attempt to do so, you will be unable to participate in the future. Don't feel anxiety to compete... post up what you have! The community may want your steals!!! Have fun with this. Please see the "Original Concept and Process" at the bottom of this post for further detail. Thank you
One person will post a steal up for the community, the first person interested will dib that steal. They will then post up a great steal of their own, and once that steal too is dibbed, they can pend a trade for the initial steal they claimed. Original rules apply! First to get it wins!
1.) BRONZE STAR OR HIGHER ONLY. IF YOU ARE AN INTERNATIONAL DIBBER, AS A COURTESY, YOU SHOULD OFFER TO SPLIT OR COVER THE COSTS IF THE PRICE OF SHIPPING IS UNREASONABLE FOR YOUR SHIPPER TO COVER ON THEIR OWN.
2.) YOU HAVE 3 HOURS FOR SOMEONE TO DIB YOUR STEAL... PLEASE HAVE YOUR STEAL READY SHORTLY AFTER CLAIMING (dibbing) A STEAL
3.) PLEASE USE THE SCORING SYSTEM TO VOTE IF YOU THINK THE ITEMS OFFERED ARE AN AMAZING DEAL!... MESSAGE THE REVIEW TEAM IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS, DO NOT POST THEM HERE... PLEASE DO NOT PEND YOUR TRADE UNTIL THE PERSON CLAIMING YOUR DEAL HAS POSTED ONE UP OF THEIR OWN AND IT TOO HAS BEEN CLAIMED!
4.) LATE STEAL POSTS WILL HAVE UNTIL 12 PM EST TO BE DIBBED ON. Exceptions made for steals posted after 3 AM EST to 7 AM EST.
5.) THERE IS A $15 MINIMUM, A $100 MAXIMUM UNLESS APPROVED OTHERWISE FOR ALL NON-GIFT CARD ITEMS... YOU CAN POST VIDEO GAMES, SYSTEMS, BLU-RAYS, ETC... DIGITAL ITEMS ARE ACCEPTABLE. FREE ITEMS, ITEMS FOR SHIPPING ARE NOT PERMITTED. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO MYSTERY BOXES, LOTS, ANYTHING MYSTERY IS NOT PERMITTED. IF YOU OFFER TWO UNCLAIMED STEALS (NO DIBBERS AT ALL FOR 3 HOURS), YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FUTURE. IF YOU DELETE OR RESCIND YOUR DIB, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE FOR 48 HOURS. BE SURE YOU WANT THE ITEM YOU ARE DIBBING.
6.) IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THE SAME STEALS OVER AND OVER, YOU WILL BE WARNED. MIX IT UP.. MAKE THIS STEALS THREAD EXCITING!
This is the order you should be posting your steals, sending and accepting offers. Person A posts steal Person B dibs and sends pre-accepted offer Person B posts steal Person C dibs Person A accepts Person B's offer Thanks whitefire!
Original Concept and Process -- PLEASE CLICK...
I had an idea... if it doesn't work, oh well.. but, it won't hurt to try. It'll also be a good opportunity to make some trades (you should be making 2 trades... one buying, one selling if everything goes smoothly).
My idea is the first person will post a deal (Me in this case)... Item + price (Condition is a must) within reason. It must be a deal. Not a $50 game for 47 + shipping... etc. Prices must be shipped. Please try to keep the items below $100 value..We don't want people posting "deal on MacBook Pro for $800" that way the cycle will not be blocked. Unless you are offering an absolute steal for an item over $100, please do not do it. What makes this fun is the randomness of items that can pop up... they can be anything.
Please review all of your resources (eBay, Craigslist, GameTZ, CAG... whatever... just make sure what you're offering is a steal)
If you have less trades, you still send first... basic site rules still apply no matter what. If you are comfortable sending same time (gold stars to and up)
Once you agree to a deal (STEAL!), you must then offer a deal (STEAL!) of your own...
How it should be:
I post Phantasy Star 3 - Genesis (cart only, fair condition) for $10 paypal shipped
@billy wants my Phantasy Star 3 for Genesis for $10 shipped... he then posts "dibs on Phantasy Star 3"
the first person to post "dibs on X item" gets the item. Please clarify what you are getting dibs on to avoid confusion. If you are the first person to post, you must send that person an offer for the item immediately. The deal giver must verify that this person is the first one to post dibs and then @billy has to offer a steal of his own...
He offers Pokemon Gold for $15...once someone takes that deal, @Jeff can now accept the offer for Phantasy Star 3... and the cycle will continue. If he knows for sure he is the first one to get dibs, he can post his deal right after... so on and so forth.
Someone else should then say "dibs on @billy 's Pokemon Gold"
This topic had many older posts which were moved here:
I've been thinking and we can go back to immediate dibs if we abide by the minimum. We've removed mystery boxes and such... The issue that needs to be addressed is someone getting a great steal and offering very minimal in return. If anyone has a suggestion, feel free to pm me and I'll give you credit :) if it works.
If you guys think that will keep the flow going, I'm down to try it. What do you think? @lunar @whitefire I'll let you two choose your forth member if you want to give this a shot. We will go back to immediate dibs and if someone thinks a steal is not up to Par, one of us can require a revision (posting a different steal)
I think Rune's idea is pretty good! 2-3 people as mods(odd # ideal, if even, Jeff can be tiebreaker), if one of the mods wants to veto, there can be a quick vote to let it ride or veto the dib.
In the case it gets vetoed, then the previous steal is back on the market? I think it shouldn't happen often given the new restrictions, but it would have to be a really bad value discrepancy for a mod to want to veto.
This way we can be just like before, except when shenanigans happen, which is perfect for not disrupting the cosmic flow when the thread is on fire.
No way guys, the veto would only work if the person who dibs the steal actually has an opportunity or two to post a fair steal,
Reverting back to the previous steal immediately isn't fair to anyone.
Example someone dibs something mediocre but still good and wants to get the thread going and posts an amazing steal that one person has been waiting for all along. This person may be at work and not able to post a proper steal in return so in a rush they try to put up something they think is good without even having time to check the Internet about the worth of the steal or the steal they are trying to post.
The restrictions are useful tools but when the power is totally taken away from anyone who wants to participate they won't want to participate. There's already the bronze star rule in effect which I wasn't totally on board with, but the only way to keep this thread good is to make it like the Wild West with crazy out of town traders wheeling and dealing and getting in on it. This will kill any new blood in this thread. Don't do it. I get making people post better steals but give them a chance or two. People have things that are worth a lot but not a ton of interest in those items here. Give people an opportunity to try "their" best. Veto power is fine only if you give someone a chance to redeem themselves.
I am completely for a committee, hence why I suggested it. It will absolutely derail 'junk' offerings which I feel were the detriment of the old steals thread. Maybe a chance to revise isn't a bad idea, but if a user is consistently posting nonsense then you're outta here kinda thing.
It's really to deter people from grabbing decent steals and posting garbage. I also feel if it will deter new users from participating that we have a committee then maybe they should think twice about wanting to participate or if they do, think twice about what they post for a steal vs. what they grab?
I don't mean to sound a jerk honestly, but it's really a suggestion I stand behind.
> This is wayy too complicated now. Multiple dibs, waiting 3 hours then a half hour
> for two people, judges voting, man just do it how it was last time without mastery
> The more crap you add the less appealing it is to learn new rules and jump thru more
Pretty much this, to be successful you want as many people participating as possible.
If there is veto power then please at least get rid of the bronze star thing because now at least there is a deterrent from people posting bad steals.
You guys forget there were a few reasons that people didn't participate in the old thread. They didn't feel welcome, and while there are people who will take more than they give, @Jeff ultimately can say that someone crossed a boundary and they are banned from participating and @Bill will back him up on this.
I'm just saying you guys want more great steals give everyone a reason to participate.
Maybe something was lost in the explanation. The veto process only comes after a person dibs and posts his steal. There were a few times in the last round, there were only couple people who voiced their opinions on how crappy an offering is.
I still think a bronze star is a must. There is still a slim chance someone can scam.
As for people didn't feel welcome, I can't think of a reason why someone doesn't feel welcome unless they have ulterior motives or have insecurities about their offerings.
Just wish we can go back and see all the people fighting to be first to dib people congrats the one who was first and got a sweet steal.. when we had to sit here and hit F5 over and over cause you dont want to miss an awesome steal!!!
Honestly - The things that took us down - was people who "Steal" an amazing deal - and offer crap in return (then later on - if they steal something else.. they would add the same crap again!!!!)
and the famous - mystery boxes - (Beside @The_Pope - He did one for 25$ for a Priority flat rate mystery box - I didnt expect anything big - but the items in it was well over 25$ and there were some awesome things in it that I really like)
People who took the 100$ boxes - were expecting something great in return for spending 100$ - but turn out to be bad stuff and that person didnt do anything to make it right.
Well people will always feel insecure until they post something and get involved and other people such as even tonymack felt their stuff wasn't good enough. I know everyone's values are different. I got almost all amazing steals and no one can say I didn't because it was stuff I really thought was worth it. I did try to offer gift cards that were usually a little higher value than other people were offering but I felt like if someone wanted to offer something a little better after me they had a good incentive to do so. I still offered items as well some better than others but gift cards to Amazon worth around 35 seemed a good incentive to offer up a decent game that people wanted. I wanted to make sure the person I dibbed from was in the clear and he or she could go about their day with their steal completed.
I get that some people offered things that weren't well received and when I waited until the last second I had to be sure I had something I could afford to give up or afford another card. It wasn't mercy dibs at all, I just can't afford everything I want like most people here can't and I got a ton of anxiety trying to figure out how to pull stuff off.
How about a less than bronze trader has to send their end of a trade and have it received before the person they dibbed sends their end? I think that would work and still be agreeable for everyone. None of the veterans are really going to try to rip off a new user and risk their reps here so I think it would work.
Without going into details, I think the easiest way is still the simplest and best idea. Leave the original idea and process alone, it was working well. But just add some sort of check and balance to make sure people don't take $100 steal and offer back a $50 steal.
I really liked the original idea as well. The only reason it ever changed was because people were voicing very legitimate concerns just like the one you brought up of people trying to take advantage of the best steals.
I don't mind the veto idea other than there's so many other complications as it is, if the veto power was the only thing in place it would probably be just fine.
Added a review team to determine if steals need to be revised. We will be going back to the original "first to dib gets it" and removing multiple dibbers. The review team is not in place to say "let me know what you post before you post" the thread will still flow and we will only step in if a steal is sub-par what it should be.
other than that, the thread should still flow like before.
