General Questions
Q: What is Steam?
A: Steam is Valve's digital distribution software that acts as an online PC game retailer and game organizer that also includes many community features such as friends, messaging, groups, stats, etc.
Q: How do I get Steam?
A: Visit Steam's website here!
Q: I have Steam now, what should I play?
A: Steam offers games from just about every PC game publisher. You can also download plenty of quality free titles. Nvidia and ATI users get some good games.
Trackmania Nations Forever and Sam and Max Season 1 Episode 4 are also free to all users.
You can register and link many games you already own with your game's CD-Key! Click here for a complete list of games supported.
GameTZ favorites include The Orange Box, Counter-Strike Source, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4, and Audiosurf.
GameTZ Steam Community Group
Started in September 2007, the GameTZ Steam Group has been open to all members of the site!
When you join, you will be connected to all the other Steam users here on GameTZ. Chat, compare stats, and play games!
For membership, send me a message through GameTZ. click the "Join This Group" link found on the top right of your page. (Group has now been made Public!)
Click here to see the group and its members!
To join the group, please make sure you have a Steam ID.
To do so, head over here and enter your Steam login and password.
Don't forget to put an avatar on your profile!

xFire
The final "essential" program that PC gamers often use is xFire.
Like Steam, it provides many features such as friends, messaging, game tracking, etc.
It's great for games that are not supported on Steam or to those who only purchase boxed PC games
Many of the GameTZ users who use Steam also use xFire
Download it here.

I'll have to talk to BoB about how much it'd cost to add some additional slots (he's in charge of the servers  )
BoB was snoozing during the meet 
Also to Kit_Silva, threw it on Arena since at first we had a smaller group (CTF is usually lame with only 4-5 people lol), but hopefully we'll get a vote system up on the server so you guys can tell us what you actually want 
The Payload map was actually pretty good for a smaller group too
You are a bad ass Sniper btw

I get schooled a LOT in other servers, but I have learned a thing or two lately. I'll be honest and say that a lot of those snipes were lucky shots, nothing more (like the two consecutive snipes on the Payload maps!) |

atm its just me and gun picking up the tab on these things we do have another person planning to contribute but when we do figure out financing im more than happy to fire up more/bigger servers.you think 15 slots would be enough for tf2?like i said before i rarely play tf2 so im unfamiliar with it.maybe ill see if travis can play when he gets up so i can get a feel for it.

I have no clue on the clan pay account.
I think if we got enough interest setting it up as big as possible would be awesome, which I think is 32. It's much more fun with a ton of people. Having only 4-5 people on your team isn't much help, but it was still good.
What does it cost to add in more slots and how often do you pay?

roughly a dollar a slot for private and it charges once a month.do you have ventrilo installed?if so when you get a minute can you hop on so we can chat this up a bit?

its a voice server like teamspeak but better and with more customizable options our vent info is in the op.im almost always on somewhere so im easy to find whenever yopu have a minute.

Cass and I plan to chip in a little bit next month, so if anyone else wanted to chip in some, we could for sure upgrade to some larger servers. It wouldn't take that much

Do we want an Enemy Territories Quake Wars server? I can get a 10 man for 5 bucks a month, or 50 for a year if we want it. The place I got my CoD servers from is having a sale (50 cents a private slot, 75 public) and I was gonna grab a private one for the TZ group.

I own that game (got it for three bucks new at the flea market!), but I never tried it. How is it? Is it TF2 set in the Quake universe?
(That said, I also bought Unreal Tournament III for two bucks today, almost new!) |

Damn, I just got rid of my UT3 a little while ago too

I sent it to Rage for free, took the code from him

If you already own the game and want to save some bandwidth, this post details how to do that:

Basically, install the game, register the game with Steam, let it download up to 2%, stop the download, copy the installed files, then tell steam to verify the download. I did this with Prey ages ago. |

UT2k4 was excellent as well
Personally I just couldn't get into UTIII though
Might be because it's a bit resource heavy though, sometimes get a little bit of lag
I was also never that good at it either, so I guess that might have something to do with it

Kinda hope Steam will have a 50% sale on it soon, never got around to checking it out and I loved every other UT.

Jeffro, I'm pretty sure they'll have a deal for it once the update patch comes out.
As for me, I installed the game and it is AWESOME. I ran it at default settings and my frame rate is excellent. I couldn't even get FarCry to run at a decent frame rate, and this one worked right out of the box. |
