General Questions
Q: What is Steam?
A: Steam is Valve's digital distribution software that acts as an online PC game retailer and game organizer that also includes many community features such as friends, messaging, groups, stats, etc.
Q: How do I get Steam?
A: Visit Steam's website here!
Q: I have Steam now, what should I play?
A: Steam offers games from just about every PC game publisher. You can also download plenty of quality free titles. Nvidia and ATI users get some good games.
Trackmania Nations Forever and Sam and Max Season 1 Episode 4 are also free to all users.
You can register and link many games you already own with your game's CD-Key! Click here for a complete list of games supported.
GameTZ favorites include The Orange Box, Counter-Strike Source, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4, and Audiosurf.
GameTZ Steam Community Group
Started in September 2007, the GameTZ Steam Group has been open to all members of the site!
When you join, you will be connected to all the other Steam users here on GameTZ. Chat, compare stats, and play games!
For membership, send me a message through GameTZ. click the "Join This Group" link found on the top right of your page. (Group has now been made Public!)

The final "essential" program that PC gamers often use is xFire.
Like Steam, it provides many features such as friends, messaging, game tracking, etc.
It's great for games that are not supported on Steam or to those who only purchase boxed PC games
Many of the GameTZ users who use Steam also use xFire

I'm wanting to buy Tomb Raider Anniversary & Underworld, but am going to wait to see if they happen to put a deal on that... .doubtful but I'd feel a food if they did.

I recently registered my hard copy of UT3 with Steam. I wish they'd let us do that with more games that we already own.

Prolly shouldnt say this, but I did that with Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, I later traded it to Richie and even though it was uninstalled it's still tied to my Steam account. I can uninstall and reinstall it all I want, lol.

I did that a while ago with my ancient copy of HL1 Platinum Collection. Worked just fine, and even automatically added a couple of mods that I apparently qualified for.
Are there others that qualify for this?

Back when I got Steam (in 2005!) I used some CD keys from games I'd picked up at local flea markets to register the games. (I'd already played Half-Life by using the old Sierra / WON.net installer, but I heard that Valve wouldn't support anyone that wouldn't upgrade to Steam, so I went ahead and got an account with them.
I got Half-Life 1, Blue Shift, along with HL1: Deathmatch Classic, Ricochet, and Team Fortress Classic with -a single HL1 key-. I think it was the Game Of The Year edition. I then used an Opposing Force key and registered it.
I think that Valve won't let you get Blue Shift that way anymore. |

Warhammer 40K: Soulstorm. Not sure if it was in order to give the Dawn of War II beta to people who already owned it, or if you can still add the code now that Dawn of War II has been released, but it worked when the beta started.

I own Trials 2 and I-Fluid
I-Fluid is an excellent game, kind of like marble madness
Trials 2 is pretty tough, but can be kinda fun I suppose
If you didn't buy any of the games during the winter sale, $10 is a pretty good deal imo
I'm skipping the deal since I own 2 of them

It was a good weekend deal if you're into that but I had no interest in those games. I ended up buying Eschalon: Book I and am enjoying it despite the graphics feeling 10yrs old. Still pretty fun.

I think they broke double jump because sometimes when I double jump it doesn't count, then later when I jump once it suddenly counts.
I have 9 of the achievements, can't seem to get a 10th

i left the group two days ago along with combat waffle and cleaned up my friends list to reflect the people i do occasionally play with or talk to.servers are still up and running and empty as hell i will probably kill the dod server since noone has played on it in the past couple months
.tf2 server will stay open as long as people still use it and of course the css server is what i play on so its not in any danger of being closed.as far as the steam group my name can be removed and especially the donate stuff.you guys run the steam thing ill keep the servers up
and running as long as people want to use them.
also i left quietly to avoid any people from following me away from the group.anyway thats what it is just message me if the server needs anything updated from the main console or if yall dont want it anymore.

Perhaps open up the TF2 server to the public? I've gone in a few times, but bailed when no one showed in 15 minutes or so. If it were public, we could gang up on some random people at least, and maybe keep the game going long enough for some GTZ'ers to join.

the problem with opening it up is that it will cost more, right now its subscribed on a deal i was offered for private only access, the price was the motivating factor in opening the two extra servers<tf2/dods>the thing is that the deal is over now so any changes to the server will revert the subscription back to full price.and public costs more than private.if anyone else wants to buy a server to play on i wont be offended at all but that one is all i personally am willing to do.
