General Questions
Q: What is Steam?
A: Steam is Valve's digital distribution software that acts as an online PC game retailer and game organizer that also includes many community features such as friends, messaging, groups, stats, etc.
Q: How do I get Steam?
A: Visit Steam's website here!
Q: I have Steam now, what should I play?
A: Steam offers games from just about every PC game publisher. You can also download plenty of quality free titles. Nvidia and ATI users get some good games.
Trackmania Nations Forever and Sam and Max Season 1 Episode 4 are also free to all users.
 For more free games that are available on Steam, be sure to check this constantly updated thread!
You can register and link many games you already own with your game's CD-Key! Click here for a complete list of games supported.
GameTZ favorites include The Orange Box, Counter-Strike Source, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4, and Audiosurf.
GameTZ Steam Community Group
Started in September 2007, the GameTZ Steam Group has been open to all members of the site!
When you join, you will be connected to all the other Steam users here on GameTZ. Chat, compare stats, and play games!
For membership, send me a message through GameTZ. click the "Join This Group" link found on the top right of your page. (Group has now been made Public!)
Click here to see the group and its members!
To join the group, please make sure you have a Steam ID.
To do so, head over here and enter your Steam login and password.
Don't forget to put an avatar on your profile!

xFire
The final "essential" program that PC gamers often use is xFire.
Like Steam, it provides many features such as friends, messaging, game tracking, etc.
It's great for games that are not supported on Steam or to those who only purchase boxed PC games
Many of the GameTZ users who use Steam also use xFire
Download it here.
xFire users can also use one of these cool sig images like the above!

satallite sucks. We had it at work WAY back. At the most we got 8kb/sec and whenever it was cloudy it wouldn't work at all.

It's somewhat snappy. I get about 130KBs down and 256Kbs up, which is fine for downloading files. The problems with satellite services is that they cap the amount you're able to download each month at a ridiculously low number (my package provides 12GB down, 3GB up). What's even worse, though, is that the latency has risen drastically in the past couple years as more and more people join the service. Go back 4-5 years and your latency was sub-800ms as compared to today's 1000-2500ms. Then again, I'm very thankful to not be on dial-up anymore

Haha, I feel your pain. I couldn't get 10 bucks for Assassin's Creed in time, which pissed me off, since it was only $10. I couldn't pass this up, though.

It's a shame that it has the crapty securom DRM though
For $15, it's not that big of a problem though
I still don't get why developers need to use their crapty DRM on top of Steam lol

I think with retail versions, if you uninstall it frees up an install. Hopefully Steam's the same.

The guys from Dupont are great and they throw some awesome lans. We had Gary come down for the very first Sacramento Lanfest back in the summer of 2007 and it really turned out well. I've had the chance to sit on the admin board for the past 2 lans, which is great because I have the chance to pimp out our local lan, as well as influence tournaments, contests, various events, etc.

Asus threw up a last minute video contest for the LAN. Supposed to talk about how awesome they are and whatnot. This is my attempt at making a video . I don't have a camcorder, so all I had available to use was Paint!
The prizes are the following:
1st Place - ASUS/Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 Video Card
2nd Place - ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 Motheboard
3rd Place - ASUS/Nvidia GeForce 9800GT Video Card

Wargh. I already own FarCry (got it here), Beyond Good and Evil (got it at a local store), and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (got it for free by scamming a Brazilian magazine uh I mean they were giving it away for free)!
And I hate flight games. :p
