General Questions
Q: What is Steam?
A: Steam is Valve's digital distribution software that acts as an online PC game retailer and game organizer that also includes many community features such as friends, messaging, groups, stats, etc.
Q: How do I get Steam?
A: Visit Steam's website here!
Q: I have Steam now, what should I play?
A: Steam offers games from just about every PC game publisher. You can also download plenty of quality free titles. Nvidia and ATI users get some good games.
Trackmania Nations Forever and Sam and Max Season 1 Episode 4 are also free to all users.
 For more free games that are available on Steam, be sure to check this constantly updated thread!
You can register and link many games you already own with your game's CD-Key! Click here for a complete list of games supported.
GameTZ favorites include The Orange Box, Counter-Strike Source, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4, and Audiosurf.
GameTZ Steam Community Group
Started in September 2007, the GameTZ Steam Group has been open to all members of the site!
When you join, you will be connected to all the other Steam users here on GameTZ. Chat, compare stats, and play games!
For membership, send me a message through GameTZ. click the "Join This Group" link found on the top right of your page. (Group has now been made Public!)

The final "essential" program that PC gamers often use is xFire.
Like Steam, it provides many features such as friends, messaging, game tracking, etc.
It's great for games that are not supported on Steam or to those who only purchase boxed PC games
Many of the GameTZ users who use Steam also use xFire

Add the server to your favorites on Xfire. It'll ask for a password when you double click or click join, and it'll save the password so you don't have to re-type it.

nah, I tried that with both CSS and TF2, ill try it again tomorrow or figure something else out. Prolly my PC.

Just got done adding the servers to my favorites
It might be kinda weird when you do it out of game
Copy and Paste the server IP in game, should work fine :)
Ran into the Day of Defeat Source server, running great!

Even better, run Steam, then run TF2. Then press Shift+Tab to go into the game overlay, click on browser, navigate to this page, click on the link, copy the server address, and voila. :p |

I can connect to TF2 and it's in my favorites, but no one is ever there.

I got CSS to work yesterday just fine. I think there is something on my end screwing me up with the TF2 server, which ill try and figure out later today.
Oh, and as soon as I can spare some change Ill be donating, been broke as fudge since the beginning of the year.

Well, if anybody thinks about it, next time you go to the TF2 server could someone invite me(if I dont see you in-game)?
I paste the server addy into the "add favorites" area and click "add to my favorites" and nothing happens. Then I do the same thing but I click "find games on this server" and it finds the GTZ server, but when I double-click it does nothing.
Am I being stupid here? I imagine I'm forgetting to do something/

Hey also BoB are you banning people if they use foul language/sprays? I haven't been banned on other servers but I have some pretty funny stuff I like to post just to get reactions from people

i dunno we havent really covered how to moderate stuff just mainly got the servers up and running.i guess we kind of need someone who plays a bit to handle that but right now we arent supe organized.

ah well I'm into the game so much I wouldn't mind helping to moderate it. I say just keep cheaters and mic spammers out, the rest hasn't been an issue on other servers.
But I hope it picks up, I'd like to play with actual people I know.

As far as foul language and sprays are concerned, I'd pretty much say everything is fair game besides pornographic material
Cheating/hacking are also not allowed (for obvious reasons)
Trying to keep the environment on our servers about the same as the site here
Not going to make a dozen rules to follow and whatnot lol
Edit: Mic spammers will also be muted/kicked

I'm mostly on at night (past 6pm) but I do play on other servers but always check the GTZ one in my favorites to see if anyone is on, but so far no one. Maybe we should organize a time or day for a contest and put subtime on the line or something.

Great meet
We had 9 out of 10 slots full the whole time, and the above doesn't show Sir Joe or GREENKILLA who were also playing before/later
This was all with relatively small planning, so it'd be awesome to see what we can get together when we do have it set up well
When I think about it, I believe this was the first successful GameTZ game meet since the creation of the Steam group
There will definitely be more to come in the future

To be honest, I don't think we were really expecting such a nice turn up tonight
Also, we did have some things with the server that we do need to change (Server going down for each map change was lame lol)
We will probably add some additional slots in the future.
It does mean additional costs to the server we rent, but we will spend the money if we can get everybody together on a regular basis

Yeah, it was great fun. Who kept stabbin' me with the Spy? all contradictin' me and crap, lol.
Anyways, guncrazy, let us know how much more it'll cost(say maybe 15-20 total), I'm sure we can come up with it especially if it becomes a regular thing. It'd be nice to play with the same people all the time.
