Thanks very much for the pointer to Tom's, settles the question nicely in favor of XP for the medium term. Thanks again. |

Um, if I remember correctly, around May 2010 it'll shut down every 2 hours, and in June or July we have to re-install another OS.

Ok, going to install it tonight when I get home for work. Any known compatability problems with it?

Doesn't seem to work well with some drivers. Sound and Video drivers have given me some trouble (NVIDIA drivers. Since you're on ATI you may have different results). A compatibility mode run on the sound drivers fixed them right up.

Same here. My video drivers work flawlessly, but my audio drivers do not work so well with Windows 7. I am using the on-board sound (ADI AD1986A) from my P5NSLI and It seems as though the system shuts audio off after a certain length of inactivity. Whenever I try to play a song or the system tries to play a notification sound, I hear a loud "click" which I assume is the sound card restarting.

That's never happened to me, although with my old M3N78 Pro board, the audio would randomly just drop, or drop to one channel (left or right). With my Gigabyte 790X, it's flawless.

I'm also having a sound related problem in Win7. The audio is slightly out of sync in all of my videos. After googling, it seems to be pretty common. |

my audio on my laptop has been messed up for a while now, the audio ports seem to not be working ever since i had to put in a different hard drive and reinstall an os and redo everything, doesn't matter if im using linux, xp, vista, or 7. the speakers play the sound but are just way to crappy to where you can barely hear them even if its totally silent. |
