Project costs to date:
Product..............................Cost
71 Lemans........................$3,200.00
Sound deadener.............$244.00
Carpet.................................$134.00
Trunk mat...........................$45.00
Seats...................................$200.00
Radiator..............................$227.00
Misc......................................$117.00
Engine.................................$1780 + $30 freighting + $476 freighting = $2,286
Holley 650 CFM carb... $110 included rebuild kit and a older style edelbrock performer intake (4 barrel). Will be selling the intake for probably $50ish.
Motor mounts....................$20
Total to date:....................$6,583
Up coming costs: Distributor - will likely go MSD pontiac ready-to-run for $350ish. Comes with coil. Also will need MSD ignition, either a used 6AL-2 or 6 series digital, 100-200 respectively. After that need headers, at which point I will decide if I will run edelbrock aluminum heads (will flow 330 CFM for $2300 from kaufman racing) or stay with my current heads that flow about 210 cfm but for $600 in porting could flow 250cfm or so. Headers will be 200-400 depending on what i get.

i didnt know YOU were a bimmer jerk! i had a 750il in college but a fudging v12 is treated like an exotic by all the fudging mechanics so i dumped it for the audi which i hated and dumped for the 4runner
i think the new 5 series are larger than the e39s which were a bit too small for me, and id rather go with a 5 series than another 7 series, probably. if they are too small i could live with

Yeah, we roll a '91 318 over here. The thing is a little blast to drive, even though it doesn't pack much power with the 4 cyl.
The gf would like to upgrade to a newer BMW, like the ones your looking at, at some point. I kind of dig newer Volvos, but pretty much any of the Eurofag stuff is cool by me, even though it sucks to have work done. |

I drove an '07 335i during my hiatus, I think you should get one of those. I got from Albany to Jefferson in 4 minutes doing 150 on I-5. Pretty fun little car to drive actually, paddle shifters are super tardy though.

nick; e39 m5 vs. 540i sport. body kit and 400 hp vs. 280 is really the only difference, but a good 540i goes around 8-10k whereas a m5 goes 18-20k. |
Nick

| | #225 posted October 13, 2009 at 11:05pm (EST) |

Chad

im kinda thinking that, but a fudging m5 is an m5. i wish the new 5 series looked as good as the old ones. the more i look at the new ones side profile the more they are crap! 7 series is a bit better because of the longer proportions |

it looks like 2001+ M5s are recommended over 2000 as there are (minor) oil issues. Mostly it is just consumption needing to top it off ever 3-4k miles, but if you let it run low it can fudge up the VVT system which looks to be a 2k fix. they did more dummy proofing of it in 01, however. at any rate

decisions decision! i also really like the gun metal gray. if i was playing a video game, thatd totally be the color i went for.
maybe i should look at audis again, though. it seems like mine really was an isolated incident. but an a8 only gives 300 hp. is that enough?!

So before I decided to do the engine and stuff on my Jeep, I was probably only into it for about $2500, now I'll realistically be at like $5k or more.
So, with that, I was kind of pissed the other day to be looking on craigslist and come upon this gem, for $8k, because I think for the extra 3 it would have been totally worth it and I'd never have to do a thing to it, it's already super badass and nice.
Like, I like my Jeep a lot, but that one is almost 10 years newer and has a nice lift on it and all dat. |
