I've been hitting the older titles lately. Not sure why...
Need for Speed: Most Wanted - After giving up on this a few months ago because it got too hard (with about 5 blacklist memebers to go) I have picked it up again and only have 2 members left now. I dunno why I'm suddenly able to continue with this but the difficulty seems more about not making mistakes. If you crash hard in one of the longer races you will prob never get back to 1st place so it's better to just restart. So it takes a great run to win but I've been making great progress and have really enjoyed this game.
Also playing Prey which is good but I'm not sure I'm going to stick with it. I'm not too far into the game but am already kinda tired of the gooey walls.
What are you guys currently playing on the 360? |

I saw Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on my brother's PS3 on his 720p HDTV. It looked alright, nothing incredible.

Someone did a comparison and put it up on youtube to show how the PS3 upscales and doesn't filter properly. It's really surprising when you see it side by side. Though I haven't seen it on my own for real so I couldn't say for sure. |

? Wasn't it suppossed to make the PS2 look a lot better? I remember seeing an article in GI or EGM or something that showed two games side by side of what PS2 looks like running it against PS3, PS3 looking alot better. Did I miss something or was this a plan that never happened?

Don't know. But it doesn't look better to me. It's jaggy and really not that good at all.
Look for yourself.

Like I said I haven't seen it in person for myself but if that video is true and an indication of how it looks I wouldn't look forward to it. Then again I think it's an older video and it's been addressed with the whole "Upscaling to 1080i) or whatever they are doing with the emulation like for God of War etc. ::Shrugs::

It looks like it was played on a PS2 on an SDTV, which is not too bad considering how crapty the PS3 makes 480i games look on an HDTV.

well, yeah, it doesn't exactly compliment the games, but it does say right in the right hand box that this problem was already fixed through firmware and is no longer an issue.
I believe that the article I read was something about newer model PS3 using some sort of technology to enhance the graphics of a PS2 game, hence why they're removing the ability for all PS2 games to be backwards compatible. It's supposed to be a new chip or something. Obviously I don't know the details about it, but I'm sure the info is out there somewhere.

So wait, they are using technology to increase PS2 graphics, while taking out backwards compatibility? Sounds....

yeah, pretty crapty idea I guess, I would hope there's more to it than what I've stated, but I really don't remember all the info on it. Basically we'll have less games that are compatible 'at first' according to Sony, but they'll look 'a lot better' instead of having most/all games that look the same. For me, it's kinda neat to play the games in updated graphics since I have so many PS2 games and I would keep my PS2 anyway, but at the same time, just like my PS1 before it, I would like to have the ability to not cludder up my TV set even more...(DC,PS2,360,Genesis,SNES are all already hooked up )

I'm doubting it highly that they can update the graphics on PS2 games simply by adding a "chip" to the point where people care enough to check out old games again, but here's hoping I would love nothing more than for this to really do something to PS2 games, but I don't see this happening either.

I wish they would just leave well enough alone and keep the "true PS2" chips in the PS3 instead of switching to emulation. The PS2 was such a successful console, taking away immediate and full backwards compatibility is getting rid of a big selling point (for me at least). It'd be nice to be able to sell my PS2 upon getting a PS3.
On-topic: Currently playing Viva Pinata for 360. Sure, it's a "kid game" but it's pretty fun. It's like a more fleshed out Chao Garden (the best part of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 ), or The Sims with colorful strange creatures. The only thing that really bothers me is the stupid "courtship rites" minigame that you have to do every time you make two pinatas get it on. |

This is the first I've heard of any "chip" to enhance graphics. They did a firmware update that enhanced PS2/PS1 graphics on all PS3's (including the ones that have the emotion engine for full backwards compatible). The new 80gb models and the systems they are selling in other territories like Europe do not have the PS2 chips built in, they use emulator instead. Maybe their emulators will be better than the 360's but I still have a shelf full of xbox games that won't work on the 360. But thankfully I got a PS3 before they quit making the 60gb model that includes full PS2/PS1 compatibility (it's actually about 98% but that's way better than the 360's).

Been playing Splinter Cell and Quake 4, back and forth between the two.
I like Splinter Cell a lot but the AI is kinda bullcrap in some regards, like how if you shoot one of them they know EXACTLY where you are in that huge patch of pitch-black darkness and proceed to pump you full of lead.
As for Quake 4.. pretty on-par with the series, nothing spectacular. Really frustrating when you get a checkpoint with almost no health left.

How could they NOT have released even a little bit of content to dl for FN3? The game is great, but jeez, can't we at least get some "create a boxer" codes, arenas, gloves or SOMETHING?!? ANYTHING?!?

It's EA isn't it? And you are surprised?

I was hoping that eventually there would be some downloadable content but it doesn't look like it will happen. Hopefully they improve on Round 4 though.
And Mayweather/Hatton Dec. 7th.

Actually I am kinda surprised. Yes it's EA, but at the very least I would rather have had them release each boxer for something ridiculous like $10 extra each than have nothing at all. But yeah, I know where you're going with it and you're %100 correct, EA blows ass (most times...not all).
YES! Hatton/Mayweather! I've been trying to keep up with the info about it but they haven't released much more than the actual contract signing. Know where it's going to take place Felty?? I'm praying for A.C., I want to go see that one badly.

I rented Vampire Rain yesterday. You basically run/walk/climb about a block and a half and then view a cutscene. Walk another block and a half, view another custscene. The first hour of the game was probably only 15 minutes of gameplay. Seems like this could get interesting but it feels like a poorman's version of a stealthy Syphon Filter so far. It reminds of the PS2/Xbox game Rogue Ops in terms of quality. Everything seems decent but simply not up to par with similar games. |

I watched MrZeem play that for about an hour. That's all it took to make me not want it at all. Some of the platforming sequences looked so incredibly frustrating and repetetive that I just never wanted to play it.
I repair consoles. Contact me if interested.
