Video games in general are all the same these days, anyways.

...and what a surprise MyAlterEgo doesn't like it and makes the final verdict less than a week after release. * smile *

Meh my floor at school has been playing the import for a month. I'm not a SSB fan but when I play I don't see a big difference between melee and brawl (besides the fact that Sonic's final smash is insanely powerful). And we can hope for innovative games can't we? * frown * The world needs more Phantom Dusts.

Since we're doing Smash Bros. scores I'll give mine as well:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 8/10
The levels are getting more complicated and somewhat smaller with every entry (the WarioWare level, while cool, forces you to focus too much on what the stage will do rather than the other fighters), and I am getting tired of the rehashing characters. However, even though I've only played through the Classic mode a couple times b/c I have like no time to do much more, I am still having a blast. Once I got the control scheme how I wanted it.

God of War: Chains of Olympus - 9/10
Son of a dog sweet!!!!

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (PSP) - 8/10
Good racing. I like the Hot Pursuit aspect with the cops and am liking it slightly better than Carbon and the Undergrounds right now.

I've played a buncha different crap in the last week. Spent a few days with bum ankle, milking some time at the tele as well:

Assassin's Creed (360) - 9/10 - The visuals are astounding, and the freedom is a blast. This game seems to divide people into two camps, and I'm in the "love it" camp fo' sho'.

Lost Odyssey - 9/10 - A most excellent old school RPG with an interesting story, neat story dreams, an intriguing protagonist (despite the cliche amnesia setup), and great turn-based gameplay (if you dig that kinda thing). Very good if you dig FF games.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion + Shivering Isles (360) - 10/10 - What really needs to be said? It's astounding in every way, and HUGE.

Shogun: Total War - 9/10 - Returned to this a bit recently. Definitely showing it's age, but still a blast. Excellent series.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (PSP) - 9/10 - I used to make fun of the Hot Shots Golf games when they were popular on the PSX because it looked so funny, didn't smack of realism, seemed cheap at first glance. I realized a coupla years ago, when I first played Hot Shots Golf 3 on the PS2, that I was hella wrong. Recently returned to Open Tee, and still love it.

SSX On Tour - 8/10 - The MTV drawings kinda annoy me, but the gameplay is still great. Thinkin' of pickin' up Blur on the Wii.

Monster World IV (genesis) - 9/10

Playing a repro of this in English. This game is great. I don't get why it stayed in Japan back in the day. A perfectly worthy swan song to the Wonder Boy franchise.

Jumpin' Jackpot (Yes, the arcade redemption game) - 9/10

Out of my first 13 plays (ever) I hit the jackpot 10 times. The game costs $0.56 to play, and I got Brain Age 2 with the tickets. $8 for a DS game isn't bad but the machine totally stopped paying out after that, probably won too much so I knocked a point off it's score * wink * It's the only redemption game that hasn't screwed me.

The US Genesis one is Wonder Boy in Monster World, which is Monster World III in Japan. The series has a very confusing set of names and ports:

1. Wonder Boy (arcade/sg-1000/sms/C64/spectrum/amstrad), called that on every system (Super Wonder Boy in Japan), except on GG, where it was retitled Revenge of Drancon, and on NES, where it's called Adventure Island.
- There are, of course, several Adventure Island sequels, but all of them are unrelated to the Wonder Boy games
2. Wonder Boy in Monster Land (arcade/sms), called Super Wonder Boy in Monster World in Japan, and Super Wonder Boy in Monsterland in the computer ports (C64/Speccy/Amstrad/Amiga/ST). Adapted to PC Engine as Bikkuriman World, with an anime license. Also adapted to Famicom as Saiyuki World with the story/characters altered to represent a classical Chinese novel.
- Jaleco developed a sequel to Saiyuki World independent from the Wonder Boy series, which was released in the US as Whomp 'Em.
3. Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair (arcade/megadrive), same title in Japan, or simply Monster Lair on the Turbo. In North America this game was a Turbo CD exclusive.
4. Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (sms/gg), actually the fourth Wonder Boy game, called Monster World II in Japan (as it's a direct sequel to Wonder Boy in Monster Land), and Dragon's Curse on the Turbo. In Europe it was simply called Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, because the "real" Wonder Boy III had been released there. The Master System version of this game was never released in Japan. Extra confusion: Dragon's Curse for the Japanese PC Engine was titled simply Adventure Island. Note that "our" Adventure Island games go by a different name in Japan (Takahashi-Meijin no Boukinjima), and they didn't tie it to "our" Adventure Island series in any way. However, the same company that made the Adventure Island series (Hudson) also put out all of the PC Engine conversions, including this one.
5. Wonder Boy in Monster World (genny/sms), aka Dynastic Hero on the Turbo, or Monster World III in Japan. Its full Japanese title (on Megadrive) is Wonder Boy V: Monster World III.
6. Monster World IV, originally released only for the Japanese Mega Drive. The Wonder Boy name is dropped because it stars some chick. You can actually play this on GameTap, albeit in Japanese. There is a translated ROM out there. I got a repro cart of the translated version.

On this side of the Pacific, we tend to think of this as a Sega series, but all of the games were developed by Westone, with Sega having the rights to the names and their specific versions. In Japan, the PC Engine games were much more popular, despite not being named as a series.

These are some of my favorite games of the time. It's a pity Westone didn't keep going with the series. They were still going strong with Monster World IV.

Wow that game turned out much better than I imagined! Not only were the puzzles enjoyable but I expected a throwaway generic story as a veil over the puzzles but it reminded me of Pheonix Wright. Great game!

Mario Galaxy- 9.5/10

Its amazing and enthralling, thats for sure- but the controls are sometimes a bit iffy. I think a lot of this is because I am left handed. Dang it! Being left handed is awesome, except for the Wii + nunchuck combo!

Yeah, I'm a little late to the party. Borrowing it from a friend to help keep me entertained in preparation for Brawl which I should have next week.

Call of Duty 3 (360) - 6/10 - I don't know if it's the change in developer in the CoD "off-season" or just my continuing boredom with WW2 shooters after years of Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, etc., but this game is barely entertaining.

Midway Arcade Treasures - 7/10 - Good selection of games, but I don't know why they chose all the games with non-standard controllers...
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 - 7/10 - Better controls, worse selection. Pit Fighter needn't be in any compilation.
Midway Arcade Treasure 3 - 3/10 - WTF IS THIS? THE EMULATION IS TERRIBLE. HOW COULD THEY RELEASE THIS? +3 for crappy Hydro Thunder. ZERO FOR EVERYTHING ELSE. Race Drivin' BARELY EVEN RUNS.

Fantastic Four (Xbox) - 2/10 - Two points. One for each player (or one for each player that doesn't get to play). Who's brilliant idea was a TWO PLAYER FANTASTIC FOUR BEAT EM UP?
