I'll check them out!
I remember reading about Titan Quest, it looked good.
Are they good single player or multiplayer though? The main draw of D2 is definately the multiplayer for me. |

From the little that I saw them play, the game looked a lot like D2. Multiplayer works out the same way, join a game, others can join too. You can make it pw protected, etc.

Jeffro - I snagged Persona 3: FES while I was out of town this weekend. I need a good, long stretch of uninterrupted time to play it now .

I don't think Persona 3: FES is a game that can take any less than a gratuitous amount of hours.

I beat Persona 3: FES in one sitting. You might as well return it and just borrow it for a night or rent it.

So how is the story in Persona? It sounds pretty non-existent from the 2 reviews I read, it's like a people sim during the day and then you go to this or that at night to fight demons. I like the good ole' post-apocalyptic zomg story, not crazy about this japanese schoolboy business. |
Jeffro

| | #254 posted July 2, 2008 at 1:43pm (EST) |
The school "sim" part of it is really interesting because, to strengthen the different types of "personas" you must establish relationships with alot of random people. So you really end up leveling your character in two ways, via the dungeon and experience, and by making new acquaintances which all have a seperate storyline themselves(some really cool and some kinda annoying). The story was a breath of fresh air for me because it was an original take on the "end of the world" storyline and because it takes place in a certain amount of time(just about a full year, from 2009 to the beginning of 2010). It's no Xenogears, but nothing is.
Oh and alot of the English voice acting is pretty terrible, but I think anybody that has played a decent amount of J-rpgs can say that crapty voice acting is the norm.

It is better in some RPGs, worse in others. Shall we ban bad voice acting in all games? What would you do with all of your Sega games?

Operation Darkness - 6.5/10
Not a bad game, the overall idea was fairly cool. The downsides are obviously the PS2 graphics and a camera that takes a lot of getting used to. Anyway I'm over 20 hours on this game and finally started getting hard....I think I've only completed maybe 1/3 of the game. If this game had better presentation and graphics I'd go up to a 8.5....I think Success was really trying to give this game a next-gen feel but I would have been happy with more traditional camera and sprites..
I'll be trading this for Spectral Force 3 as soon as I finish it.....send your offers away |

Well the first 10 hours was a total breeze, it was basically line 'em up and knock 'em down. Now all the main missions are "hard" but once you've seen the battlefield and know what is going to happen its easy to plan (ie. how many rocket launchers vs snipers vs machine guns etc). The strategy is actually fairly good, I start the fastest member of the squad w/ no gun equipped and just a knife and a grenade or two and I'll use a speed boost item on him at the start and then run up and grenade a group of soldiers or start a knifing spree. Since you can pick up items off dead bodies the knifing works great...cause when your turn starts you can pick up guns/ammo/health off the guy you just knifed, and then run and knife another one I finally realized that I can use some of my magic attacks on small tanks and trucks which makes some stuff easier too. This game could have been great if it were just a well polished old school style, instead of having crappy 3D. |

Final Fantasy X - 8/10 - It's my second playthrough, first time I would've gave it a 10/10. The first time I played through it like 5 years ago I never noticed how there was so many cutscenes but now that I'm not really interested in them since I remember everything, they are a bit much. It's scary how little gameplay there might actually be if you just made a dash to the next arrow on the map everytime without veering off-course for items and stuff. Still my favorite RPG (granted I haven't played that many just grandia 2, evolution, skies, kh, ff7, ff8, ff9, tales of symphonia, kotor).
Just bought Persona 3 also, even though I know I'm totally gonna hate it Do they make a guide with the FES part in it? I couldn't find one so I just passed on getting one. |
Jeffro

| | #265 posted July 3, 2008 at 12:00pm (EST) |
I wish they made a FES guide(The main story also has many changes that the regular guide wouldnt work very well). Whenever I had questions I went and checked the faqs over at gamefaqs, there are some really great ones.
Oh and Skies>FFVIII>Grandia 2>FFX

I would agree Skies and Grandia 2 have slightly better gameplay but what FFX lacks in gameplay it makes up for in story/atmosphere. |

I hated every character but Auron(sp?) and that's the number 1 thing for me in RPG's(likeable characters), second is a great battle system, third would be atmosphere.

Auron has to no.1 cool muthafudgea badass in all of gaming
I liked all the characters, except Yuna for some reason, 1st game to get me into RPG's really
Lulu looked alittle weird to me, even if sexy, and she shows off those huge ass bewbs, but everything else is air tight, you barely even see her hand most of the time |

Auron is one of the better Final Fantasy characters. I don't think Tidus woulda been that bad if he had been giving a decent Voice actor |

Yeah, Tidus wasn't that bad of a character... Just annoying to my ears. Final Fantasy X is awesome.
For the record, Cloud and Sephiroth are two of the most overrated PoS characters of all time. Especially Sephiroth. |
