Hellgate London - 6.5/10 - Barely scratched the surface, this is just initial impressions. Starting the game was NIGHTMARE. 20 minute install, followed by... error connecting to server. 2 patches totaling 600mb... error connecting to server. Finally the game in game updates and I get on. Oh crap this game KILLS my PC for some reason *tones down graphics* Hmm... Ok, maybe not... still running like crap. Maybe it's just cause I'm online, but there seem to be a lot of graphical hiccups (My framerate in any game is generally good but hiccups annoy the CRAP out of me). Gameplay? Meh so far. Hack 'n slashing in bland environments. The instanced MMO-ness of it is actually kind of cool. It's not like Guild Wars which forces you to group-up so I'll deal with the random people in the stations. The interface is insane, but maybe I'm just not used to it yet.
Obvious comparison to Diablo II: Holy crap it pales in all regards so far (except perhaps quest quantity). I even prefer the overhead, 2d graphics. Bleh!
Why 6.5? I'm nitpicking. I'll get used to the interface, I'll fix the graphical hitches, I'll get into deeper quests than the initial start-y ones, and it seems there's a lot of grinding for loot. I love grinding for loot. It's not all that bad, I kinda think I'll like it.

Dewy's Adventure (wii) - 8/10
Not sure what everyone's problem with this game was. Sure, the visuals are too cutesy and a bit garish, but the gameplay is pretty solid, and challenging.
<benstylus> what crappy game from 15 years ago have you been playing lately?

i dont think you are nitpicking at all defaultgen. the game wears on you after a while. and i wonder if the problems that you are having online have to do with flagship studios shutting down?

The point of playing Etrian Odyssey was to play Etrian Odyssey II. Unnecessary?

I never got around to playing the first one, but from what I heard the second one was a bit better(I'm loving the second one). I don't believe the stories of the two are connected or anything, but I know you can use a password from the first one in the second one(though you can easily find one of those online).

It's not really cheating, all it does is carry over your old guild name(which you can change anyway) and gives you an item.

Final Fantasy IV DS - 9/10 - An old classic that looks great. Definitely the best version of the game... Kinda makes me wanna play a 3D Final Fantasy VI. |

I meant it though, in the sense that 6.5 is a high score for a game that all I've done is bash. The 7-10 scales of the mainstream sites is BS

hellgate just tried to do too many things. random 3d maps. rpg shooter. "massively single-player online". just too much. they should have scraped the random 3d dungeons and the online MMO-like components. they should have focused on the rpg elements and made it playable with parties online. hopefully borderlands will get it right...

Not playing much right now, been busy with Warhammer.
I grew quickly bored with Crisis Core. It's kinda neat, but I have no real desire to play much more of it after 5 hours or so.
Anyway...
Neverwinter Nights 2 - Finally got around to really sitting down with this one. Classic RPG, story seems a lot better than it was in the original, although it's more linear than the original. Still, I'm diggin' it.

Thouroghly enjoyable. Looks absolutely amazing on the DS. Jaw dropping intro video. Great sound, classic gameplay. Love the touch screen controlls. |

FF III was SNES, and only JPN. Updated graphics + improved story = new game, same title. Also, FFTA 2 = new game. |

Guess it's often best to shut the fudge up and let others play what they want instead of being an asshat.

Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword (DS) - 8/10 - A girl at work let me borrow her DS and games while she's gone for the week, so I've been playing this. It's pretty darn entertaining, and captures the essence of the console games fairly well. The control scheme works nicely, as well.

Well I suppose I'll keep my mouth shut so that Nintendo and the like just keep re-releasing the same game for each platform since you'll keep buying it again and again for some reason. Oh wait, they have "improved" graphics and stories. My bad. Because this is a very small list of completely original titles.
For those of you keeping track at home, that's around 50 release for a game that's up to 12 or so plus a few spinoffs. |

sewers, streets, and subways seem continue all the way to level 20. along with a couple of open areas (parks, dried river beds)...

Think I'm giving up on NGDS. It's just not interesting anymore. 5/10
I started playing LoZ: Phantom Hourglass. It's pretty decent so far (only played for 30 min or so), but I'm not digging the control scheme too much. I want to use the pad and buttons to control Link and the fighting. The touch screen functions are awesome for the map and plotting out sailing routes, and I assume will be awesome for the boomerang, but everything else is unnecessary. Still, it's Zelda, so it's good. 8.5/10

I absolutely agree, and since Nintendo said that they're going to dumb down their games, even core franchises like Zelda, to make them accessible to new gamers, I'd say the series hit it's peak and Phantom Hourglass is probably a glimpse at what's to come.
