...I bought a PS3.
Nabbed myself one for $210 shipped from ebay -- not a bad price, definitely in the price range I had in mind.
Well, I managed to get a different one at $240 shipped w/2 controllers...since the first butt-hole backed out.
Anyways, now that I've gone over to the dark side [lolsome pun, there], are there any games I'm missing out on from the must-haves?
This is the list I have so far:
Uncharted
Valkyria Chronicles
Siren: Blood Curse
MGS4
Infamous
The Last Guardian (Project Trico)
I know Resistance and Resistance 2 are on alot of peoples' lists, but I hated what I played of Resistance 1...maybe I need to give it another shot, but I thought it was generic as hell. I also didn't like Killzone 1, so I doubt I'll crap myself over Killzone 2. Convince me otherwise
Anyways, is there anything else spectacular that I'm missing from my list that I can't get on 360?

Good call. I've played either a ps1 or ps2 disc based game maybe all of once or twice in almost a year and a half of having my ps3. Once ya get enough of a backlog of ps3 games, you'll be lucky to play the last gens games.
I'm imagining you'll be planning on upgrading the hdd size in the future? Less than $100 for a 500gb from newegg.com.

I'll only upgrade if it becomes mecessary...I just got a 120Gb 360 HDD because of Rock Band eating up all the space, but I might need a bigger PS3 drive with all the game installs, I assume.

Ok, WTF man?!
The boyfriend of the lady who I bought the PS3 from on ebay just sent me an email claiming that they mistakenly listed the PS3 with an extra Dual Shock 3 controller...read:
Man sorry, my girlfriend listed this wrong and it doesn't have an extra controller, the selling price is still the same, and it is a great buy regardless, if all is still well i will send item priority mail on monday .and i will throw in a free blue ray movie for the inconvienience. thank you, for the prompt payment.
The auction's description:
You are bidding on a 40 gb Playstation 3 console, like new in condition only 2 months old, bought as gift for my son and he likes xbox better........good luck and happy bidding. This system also comes with an extra Dual Shock 3 controller, a 60 dollar value.
My reply:
Actually, it is a bit of a problem. That's the main reason I bought it was because of the extra controller. These 40Gb PS3s routinely sell for around $200, and if you're going to tell me there's no extra Dual Shock 3, then yes that's a problem. That controller is part of the contract of the sale...you can't just renig on that and tell me it's going to be the same price regardless of the misrepresentation of an extra controller. There's a world of difference between a $60 controller and a $20 Blu-ray movie.

I followed up with a second email to him:
Here's an idea: How about instead of getting me a Blu-ray movie that I don't want, you put an extra Dual Shock 3 in the box instead? I don't see how someone accidentally types 'This system also comes with an extra Dual Shock 3 controller, a 60 dollar value.'

Oh, that guy. I offered him $200 shipped before and he didn't answer.
Even without the extra DS3, at $210 shipped I'm getting a better deal than DaveSGE is asking for his silver one...I'll offer him $210 shipped,

I'd keep hassling the seller first like you have been. Get him to toss you in a DS3 or refund you back $50-$60 for the controller. PS3 for $160 FTW

If you played resistance 1 and didn't like it then you'll hate Resistance 2. That game sucked donkey balls.
As for Killzone 2, I highly recommend it especially if you want to play online. The single player campaign was pretty damn good. It's way better than Killzone.
Also get Little Big Planet. That game is good. |

True, I guess that's the chance to take, definitely wouldn't settle on $210 with no 2nd controller when he listed one. I guess worst case scenario is you keep searching for another good deal then? Better than letting him get away with that

I got a feeling that one of his buddies offered to buy the controller off him or something and he's trying to pull it out of the deal so he can cop another $40 out of it.

ok, get this:
So, the guys emails me back last night saying he'll cop out $40 for overnight shipping and include the blu-ray movie, so I reply back and ask him "why the heck are you willing to spend $40 on shipping and $20 on a blu-ray, but you won't just go buy me a Dual Shock 3 instead? Just go buy a used DS3 and throw it in the box and we'll be straight...that, or save the trouble and just refund me $40".
He replies back today saying that he's got a hook-up with UPS so the shipping won't cost that much to him and he's already got some blu-rays he can throw in that I can choose from...but rather than that, he could just refund me $25 Paypal, but only if I agree to give him positive feedback FIRST (WTF?), and then he'll send me the $25 refund and the PS3.
So, yeah, now he's trying to hold me hostage over feedback... I told him there's no way in hell I'm going to commit full-on Ebay suicide by giving him positive feedback without even recieving the PS3 as a minimum, and being able to verify that the damn thing isn't busted into pieces, etc. How stupid would that be? I told him to send me the PS3, then send me the $25 and I'll give him the feedback.

Since I'm not very familiar with PS3 at all, I'm sure as hell not familiar with the pricing...
I just picked up a mint copy of MGS4 for $21 shipped; I'm assuming this is a good deal (?).
Also, what's a good going price for Uncharted? I keep seeing it for $30+, but I could have swore this game was down in the $20 range, especially since it got a GH reprint.

Uncharted never got a GH reprint. Get it for low 30s, good game. MGS4 just hit GH so $21 is good.

Dude, I just finished Valkyria Chronicles last night, and I thought that was one of the best $50 I have spent in a while. I did buy the game guide, I wanted the 'A' ratings and tasty weaps from the Elites.
Noby Noby Boy is a weird ass game from the Katamari creator, game has no goal, really, you stretch around, eat stuff, then poo it out, but it's entertaining and hypnotic. And it's 5 bucks from the PSN store.
Little big planet is pretty damn fun, but it's not everyone's cup of tea--watch some vids online and see if it's for you.
And the game that came out this week, uh, inFamous? I think that's supposed to be pretty great, haven't played it myself.
(yeah, infamous http://gametz.com/Games/PlayStation+3/Infamous.htm... )
Oh, and keep an eye on the PSN store, sometimes (often) they give out free games, I got rag doll kung fu last week, and there's a lot of little big planet limited edition addons that are in the store for a week or two.
Also from the store, I bought and loved Flower, fl0w, echochrome, and I want to check out the pixeljunk games as well.
my .02 cents. |
