Topic   Can you complete 1 game for every system you own in 2018?

I am continuing this thread in to 2018.

Post your list of systems and i'll add it to a table to keep track in the first post. Screenshots are not required, but they are welcome. Place screenshots in spoiler tags please. Try and complete a game you haven't completed before. Try and work out some simple trades to play something new. It doesn't matter when you started playing the game. It only matters that you complete it this year.

it is indeed a combo of a persona style game with the combat of Ys. its amazing, in a year without Persona 5 it could have been my game of the year easy. one of my top jrpgs. the ps4 version fixes some technical hiccups of the vita version and adds an extra epilogue chapter, and they are talking about doing more of them after TX was well received, so they need to go ahead and just take all my money now.

P5 is amazing, like the best jrpg ever. FF7 and X of course still right up there for me. I need to play Ys VIII as well, yakuza and Ys are next two series im going to try and get caught up on, along with all the "trails of" stuff, so in like 3 years maybe i'll be there lol

hahaha, tell me about it. Steam has almost all of the Ys games now just in case you didn't know. The first game is still my favorite, but they're all very enjoyable and fairly short for rpgs.

I hope they release a Ys compilation on PS4/5 some day. I don't have a controller anymore for my gaming PC.

Yeah, I used a wired 360 controller for years, than I gave it to my brother and decided to try and use my DS4 wirelessly on my PC, but I could never get it to work properly.

I think it worked fine if it was plugged in though. I honestly haven't done much PC gaming lately.

Do you or anyone else know how to get the DS4 to work wirelessly? I should just pick up an X1 controller when they go on sale, I'm sure it's a lot easier to use them on PC.

xbox Is easy, but ds4 is pretty good too, xbox works natively with windows, and most things recognize it. for dualshock I think all you need is DS4Windows, which is a free program afaik and then it works great from what ive seen. it essentially just tells windows its an xbox controller, but it has some configuration stuff too I believe.

for the newer style xbox controller with Bluetooth if your pc has that it will sync up, for the older x1 you'll need the little usb antenna, I use that and it works well. or if you want wired just plug the controllers usb cable in

Yeah, I had trouble getting DS4windows to work, I bought a bluetooth dongle for my PC and everything, but it just wouldn't stay connected. I think I'll get an extra long DS4 charging cable and go that route for now.

Path A will take the longest. That's what you played if I recall raz? The game really kicks up at path c..and is Def the best parts of the game. C to E is the Canon ending from what I've seen also.

Just finished Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on PSP.

I remember being so incredibly stoked when this game came out only to completely burn out on those repetitive side missions. I stuck it out this time and let myself focus on the main story. The Genesis storyline and the random callbacks to the original game are lame, but the moments in the campaign that dramatize moments that were previously only seen as flashbacks... I really enjoyed that. And the ending sequence is a megaton.

Not sure if it was worth waiting a decade to play, but I enjoy how it wrapped up. I also got a kick out of seeing such a primitive action RPG engine having just finished FFXV. We've come a long way.

Added DS to the list, but I think I'm still technically halfway there.

I played this way back and liked it a lot then (I like FF7 stuff, shocker I know), but haven't played it in years, I could see aspects not holding up as well, but exposing on the stuff that was only eluded to and flashbacks is pretty great. the ending is indeed a megaton.

at this point I wouldn't think its spoiler tag worthy.. FF7 is over 20 years old..and if you don't know this you aren't interested in rpgs lol... but I guess i'll spoiler it anyway..

I fought the ending sequence for a long time, I was like give me your best shot.. you cant have him! I was so OP though they couldn't beat me.. I figured at some point it would just overwhelm you.. but it never did. I had to let him go... tears welled up and falling.. and when Aerith feels it.. omg right in the heart. I still tear up at the ending of advent children when you see them and zack gives you that little hand flip

Eh, better safe than sorry. Knights of the Old Republic has been out for a hundred years, and I still wish the story hadn't been spoiled for me.

I did one of those 200+ Soldier missions shortly before finishing the game, so when I saw that mob of military troops, I had a bit of a "been there, done that" attitude. A couple of poorly-timed Missile attacks finished me off, though.

The part of the ending the hit me the hardest is when Zack is on the ground, after the final battle phase where he's limping around and struggling to swing his sword... The last trooper walks up to him and just shoots him in the head. So much more intimate than the way than his send-off in FF7, where it looks like he's just being shot at from a distance by machine guns.

Doesn't matter how much of a Super Soldier you are, bro. You're still not bulletproof.

I finished the original Zelda today. Nope, never played through it before. In fact, in all my years, I don't think I made it past the first four dungeons.

Despite how much I love the series, this is only the third Zelda game I finished, the other two being Link's Awakening (when I was in elementary school) and Breath of the Wild. It's surprisingly sharp after all this time, but once I got to Level 5, I was really feeling the pain of the lack of diagonal movement.

This game clear brought to you by @Gypsy who, if he hadn't gotten me a sick deal on a Nintendo, I wouldn't have wandered into a game shop one weekend, picked up Zelda 2 and said "Fudge it, why not." Up until the last two temples it was a solid 8/10 game but the cart kept not saving things like spells and completed dungeons, so not once but TWICE I had to hike from the start of the game to the last dungeon and the crapfest they stack in between those two points after finding out I was missing something critical to actually finishing the game. The backtrack crap and INTENSE shift from challenging enemy layout to "paste hard to hit crap over multiple pitfalls" towards the end of the game really soured the endgame experience.

However something I wasn't aware of was the Game+ mode this unlocks after a clear, which resets your extra heart and magic containers and items, but retains your sword techniques and spells, so you effectively can replay the game and skip all the derpy sidequest crap. That's kinda cool. I may clear it again for giggles.

I've finally beaten a Switch game, in the form of Mario Tennis Aces. Beat both the adventure and all 3 cups on com tournament mode. Loved it, controls feel perfect for a Mario Tennis vet, and the new story mode is just goofy enough to be enjoyable. I also like the new special shot mechanics, they fell very intuitive.

Haven't recently been playing many games on consoles that I've yet to complete a game on. I'll have Rocket Knight Adventures on the Sega Genesis down sooner or later; unfortunately limited continues can be problematic angry.

On a positive note, I finally beat Hard Corps: Uprising on the Microsoft Xbox 360. Having attained my first achievement in the game way back in 2011, it was a long time coming. I've got to mention that I beat the game in "Rising Mode" which allows for the purchasing of extra lives, health(!), and even a triple jump laughing out loud. I feel no shame, however; beating that game in Arcade Mode would be a rather momentous task.

Additionally, I finished up Ganbare Goemon Kirakira Dōchū: Boku ga Dancer ni Natta Wake, or what would have been Legend of the Mystical Ninja 4 had it been released over here in the states. I have been finding myself falling further in love with Goemon games, the characters, and all of the ridiculousness that ensues in this franchise. Having scooped up the third entry on the Super Famicom, I now have all four on that console, both Nintendo 64 titles, one on the Game Boy Color, and what is currently the final game in the franchise on the Nintendo DS. As with Castlevania, Contra, and a whole other slew of games, Konami is letting one of their longest running series rot away for no good reason whatsoever. At least they released a veritable ton of Goemon games during its heyday, so there's plenty still left that I haven't played.

My total remains unchanged, as I still sit at 13/18 consoles completed. Until next time!

Hoboy, Zelda >>>> Zelda 2. Not even close. GG. Hopefully I can move away from the NES for a bit now though!

Probably need to pick a real SNES game instead of calling Great Waldo Search as counting. That was such an accidental and brainless clear it shouldn't really count.

Completed Rocket Knight Adventures on the Sega Genesis tonight. I swear, Konami in the late 80s to early-to-mid 2000s was a third party company to be reckoned with. Great graphics, catchy music, fair-but-difficult challenge, and tight controls; all wrapped up in a standout title. I'd like to get my hands on Sparkster, but it's a little pricey on both the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. Well, that puts me up to 14/18 systems down. Keep her moving!

Man, Shenmue is pretty awful. I generally don't like saying a game aged poorly but it's never been more apt than Shenmue. It was mind blowing at the time but now there are so many games that do the same thing better. I used to play this every year but stopped many years ago and I quickly remembered why. It felt like a slog and I had to play it in bits and pieces. I really hope Shenmue 3 doesn't suck. Just make it good and tell people that want it to be like the original to piss off lol.

DS is finished. I beat Retro Game Challenge.

It's funny playing this game now, when neo-retro is practically the default style for most indie games. I picked it up shortly after release because I'm an old nostalgic fart, and because IGN gave it a pretty good review. It's a lot of fun, and the design is awesome - especially the music - but I stopped dead in my tracks when I reached Guadia Quest during my original playthrough. A sluggish Dragon Quest-style RPG with slow repaints and truncated menus? No thanks.

I didn't let it stop me this time. It actually wasn't as dull as I expected, and the title that comes next is a blast. The final challenge _totally_ blindsided me, though. Thank goodness for those in-game magazines.

what kind of performance do you get with psnow? what speed is your service? mine is usually fast enough probably, I just don't feel like I could get 20 dollars a month out of it, love gamepass at 10 though, id consider psnow at 10

I've found it works well on what I believe to be a typical Internet speed, as long as no one else in the house is using any Internet at all.
It definitely has its issues (price point being one) I'm just always surprised when people don't seem to even know what it is.

I finished Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. Pretty decent story for a Castlevania game. I would definitely recommend it. It was great.

Xbox One - Titanfall 2

NES Classic
Switch - Subsurface Circular
PC - Gunpoint
Rift - Robo Recall

Beat all missions on Robo Recall for the Rift. Not even close to unlocking all the stars or upgrades for weapons, though. It's so fun I will probably keep popping into it from time to time.

If you have a gaming PC and have been contemplating picking a VR system up, I HIGHLY recommend it. These past few days of owning it have been some of the most gaming fun I have had in my lifetime.
