Topic   Can you complete 1 game for every system you own in 2018?

I am continuing this thread in to 2018.

Post your list of systems and i'll add it to a table to keep track in the first post. Screenshots are not required, but they are welcome. Place screenshots in spoiler tags please. Try and complete a game you haven't completed before. Try and work out some simple trades to play something new. It doesn't matter when you started playing the game. It only matters that you complete it this year.

I hope to get a lot further this year than I did last year. I only made like 5/12 last year. with the rpg line up coming this year as well as the stellar year current gen is looking to have it maybe hard, may have to find some small games for some of these. some will be done off original hardware probably..for instance ps1 will likely be a ps1 classic psn title, 360 a BC title on x1, etc.

Yay!

I decided to sign up for Gamefly. I might reget it, but I wanted to try it for the convenience factor because they have a month for $13/mo going on right now. I that will definitely help me along.

I'm going to make this a bit more challenging and pic the potential selections in advance. I'm also going to restrict the list to games that are already out and I have never finished before. This won't be everything I'll play, but I am going to definitely try to play all of these.

Nintendo Wii Super Mario Galaxy (coming in)
Nintendo Wii U Twilight Princess HD (need to get)
Nintendo Switch Super Mario Odyssey (have digitally)
Nintendo DS New Super Mario Bros. (need to get)
Nintendo 3DS Majora's Mask (coming in
PlayStation Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Dino Crisis 2, Suikoden, MediEvil Breath of Fire IV, Final Fantasy VII, or Grandia (have most digitally)
PlayStation 2 Siren (have digitally)
PlayStation 3 Heavy Rain, Shadow of the Colossus, Siren: Blood Curse, or Red Dead Redemption, or South Park: The Stick of Truth (have digitally or on PS Now)
PlayStation 4 Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (have digitally)
PSVR The Brookhaven Experiment or Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
PlayStation Portable ?
PlayStation Vita Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Microsoft Xbox Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (need to get)
Microsoft Xbox 360 Lost Odyssey (need to get)
Microsoft Xbox One Ori and the Blind Forest (have digitally)

I need some help natrowing down to one PS1 game. Any recommendations? I didn't own a PS1 growing up, so there's just so much i missed out on. I would also love a good PSP recommendation. It just has to be available digitally on Vita.

this (though im sure that's of little surprise coming from me lol)
if you have the ps4 version you can speed up the playthrough a lot with that feature that speeds up the battles.

for psp, of course i'll recommend crisis core, although its best played after ff7, despite being a prequel. just a lot more meaning that way.

my recommended order would actually be FF7, Crisis Core, Advent Children, this gives advent more weight, especially in one particular moment, then dirge of Cerberus if you really wanted to, though its not great.

I beat Mega Man 9 last night. I've had it on my Wii for a couple of years but didn't actually play it until yesterday. Overall I had a really good time with it. The stages and boss weapons were some of the best in the franchise. The graphics popped, the music was catchy, and the game handled just like it's NES counterparts. Highly recommended. My new total is 1/18.

Being in a Mega Man kick, I ran through MM10 last night. You are correct, 9 had better robot masters/weapons, a much catchier soundtrack, and the difficulty was more consistent. I read about people complaining about MM9's challenge being excessive, but I found it to be right in line with the NES games. 10, on the other hand, had some real "throw your controller" moments involving pixel perfect jumps and annoying stage hazards. I also found the graphics in 9 to be more appealing overall.

It's the crap they had to do to shoehorn in Kindergarten Mode that made MM10 flop hard compared to 9 I think. The challenges had to become more stupid, you can't design intelligently around dumb.

Yeah, someone on YouTube made the same observation. It makes sense because a lot of the hardest jumps most likely had a barrier covering the spikes on easy mode.

I'm playing Super Mario Odyssey right now. I'm trying to decide whether I should play Majora's Mask 3D or Uncharted: Lost Legacy next. What do you guys think? Just wrapped up Metroid: Samus Returns. For some reason it seems like a lot of Metroid fans are ranking this somewhere in the middle of their "series best of" lists. I thought it was an outstanding game. The addition of melee attacks forced me to stay more engaged when I was backtracking to find missile upgrades and the like. Like @razeak mentioned, the biggest issue was the 3DS itself, as my hands cramped up more than I'd like to admit. Well, that puts me up to 2/18 for my 2018 completion number. Next up: Gotta knock out Dragon Quest VIII!

I gotta start by saying that Dragon Quest VIII has to be one of the most solid traditional J-RPGs I've ever played. There's nothing groundbreaking from a gameplay or story standpoint, but everything is just fine-tuned to an airtight degree. It took me 80+ hours to beat, which clocks in as the longest RPG I've ever played. Long story short, if anyone wanted to experience a J-RPG in it's purest and most well executed form, DQ8 has to be on the short list.

I also beat Mega Man V, which was another solid Mega Man game. I didn't have much interest in the other Game Boy releases due to their use of assets from the NES games, but MMV was created from the ground up with an original story and bosses. The gameplay was rock solid, the story was semi-original, and I thought that the stage designs were pretty well done. In terms of negatives, it was pretty easy for a Mega Man game, the music wasn't particularly memorable, and some of the boss weapons were really crappy. I enjoyed it more than the recently completed Mega Man 10, but it's nowhere near the level of 2,3, or 9.

My new total is 4/18!

Beat my first of likely a few Switch games this year -- Ittle Dew 2+. Definitely takes more than a little inspiration from Zelda LTTP and it was a bit short (11.5 hours for me), but I had fun nonetheless. Definitely challenging in parts, and I'd argue some of the later puzzles are harder than the Zelda series at times. Completionists could probably squeeze another couple hours out of it -- I was missing a couple items at the end and may go back to beat the bonus dungeons sometime.

Had some free time yesterday and didn't want to start a long game (waiting for Shadow of the Colossus tomorrow) so I fired up What Remains of Edith Finch. Absolutely stellar experience (although very short, maybe 2-3 hours max). I don't want to spoil anything but I heard it described as "narrative Warioware" -- a perfect description. A ton of different gameplay "styles" amongst the short stories that keep you entertained. Phenomenal story also, although I felt they could have tied things up a bit better at the end. Highly recommended.

I'm in the doctor's office right now. They've run all kind soft tests so far. At least I know it's not a tumor or aneurysm. I box but have only been hit hard a few times over the years. I think it's stress myself.

Finished the Shadow of the Colossus remake yesterday; I forgot how brilliant that game is, and the graphics add so much more to the experience. The strategies for each colossus game back to be surprisingly quickly and I was able to beat it quickly (5-6 hours). Thinking of restarting it on hard and possibly going for the platinum. It's that good.

Day 22 of the headaches. About an 8 on the scale. I only get relief if I lay flat on a flat solid surface or hold ice to the left rear side of my neck. The relief is almost instant but as soon as I sit up or move the ice it comes back. Weird. At least the MRI was good. My chiropractor adjusted my neck and it made a huge difference for a few hours. Hopefully he gets it.

In the meantime, I bought My Life as a Dark Lord from WiiWare. It is really fun and so far the battles are down to the wire. I like the battles don't t take very long either so it has some quick game value.

I'm digging Contra Rebirth also and as expected it is really difficult.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through the Banner Saga 2 and I haven't picked up Nier Automata in too long. I need to get back to it as it is very good.

nier is unbelievable, it was just so so good. I don't often replay games because my game time is limited most weeks and I have a backlog that's tear inducing, but i'll play that one again one day.

banner saga I really loved, its one of my top smaller/indie titles the last few years, ive got my save of 1 into 2 just waiting on 3.. I don't want them to rush it but im ready for them to get it done

as far as this challenge goes I'm going to try and get back to it after kingdom come deliverance, which is going to rule a month of my life probably, but will be my x1 game so it does help overall

Pinched nerve? They've got expensive icing machines that athletes use, not sure how feasible that would be (and it's probably loud too).

Completed Ganbare Goemon 2 for the Super Famicom, which I'm counting as a Super Nintendo game for the purposes of this challenge. I really like the Goemon series (Mystical Ninja in the US) and this game fit right along with all of the others that I've played. Maybe it's because of the fact that I couldn't read any of the text, but I feel like I enjoyed the original Legend of the Mystical Ninja a little better than this one. Nevertheless, it was still a fun game and worth importing, in my opinion. I want to get my hands on the fourth game of the Ganbare Goemon series, which also appeared on the Super Famicom. Well, my new total is 5/16. Moving onto the next one!

I heard of a hidden gem called Tornado Outbreak a while ago and managed to find a cheap copy for Wii last weekend. Beat it tonight. The story is nonsensical and the gameplay can get repetitive, but it's oh so satisfying as your tornado becomes bigger and you destroy everything in the level. Surprisingly challenging at times; I could go back and try to collect everything in every level but I know it would be an exercise in frustration because I barely beat the levels as-is. Still, pretty fun and worth picking up if you can find a cheap copy (it's on PS3 also).

Completed Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty this morning. Although I've beaten Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus back in the day, I didn't spend nearly as much time with it's prequel. Having said that, the New 'n' Tasty remake is most assuredly the definitive way to play Abe's first outing. Nothing was really changed in the gameplay department, resulting in the difficulty remaining more or less the same as on PS1. Autosaving makes repeating the same rooms over and over again much less tedious, though. The graphics were outstanding; I still can't get over how cool some of the environments looked. All told, I had a lot of fun with the main campaign and Alf's Escape was a nice cherry on top. My new total is 6/18.

@razeak I accidentally put 16 as my console total in my last post, it's actually 18. Like @Gypsy just mentioned, I hope your health condition is on the upswing.

Wrapped up Metal Gear Rising: Revengence last night. I had a lot of fun with this one. Despite not following in the series' stealth design, it's probably my second favorite game aside from MGS on the PS1. The graphics are still really nice and the swordplay was very satisfying. The only negative I can think of is that the camera can be frustrating during hectic battle sequences. Overall, Revengence was great and would serve as a perfect game to play after a lengthy RPG. That puts my total up to 7/18!

Beat Yakiniku Bugyou for the PS1. A short game, probably has more modes but I need to derp my way around through Japanese menus to really find out. The gist of the game is that you are running a Yakiniku restaurant and you have to keep customers with different tastes happy. Different things take different time to cook, the center of the grill cooks much faster etc...

Decided to knock off another couple quick ones this weekend before a few "big guns" are released (starting with Ni No Kuni 2 in a couple weeks).

Bust A Groove 2 was one of my childhood favourites that I found at a flea market recently -- I still dig the music but it bugs me that the button input timing doesn't follow the music exactly (it gets progressively ahead of the song throughout each stage). So you have to rely on sight -- flashing lights indicate when buttons should be pressed. Otherwise pretty fun game -- I wish the one player mode was more fleshed out however. Only took me about 45 minutes to beat (although you can beat it with different characters to vary things up a bit).

Super Mario Land 2 is also a childhood fave, and the platforming and level design is still as good as ever. I zipped through this in two sittings, never really encountering a challenge until the final castle. I think I had 50 lives at the end haha.

Finally sent Olaf, Baelog, and Erik back home in The Lost Vikings. This game got pretty tough at times, particularly during the last two "worlds." Originally a Super Nintendo title, the graphics aren't amazing but the sprite work is top notch, the music is interesting (see: weird), and the gameplay is rock solid. I picked up its sequel, Norse by Norsewest: The Lost Vikings 2 on the PS1, but I think I'm going to finish off Final Fantasy VII or FF Tactics as my PlayStation game for this challenge. That puts me up to 8/18!

Beat Mario Party: Top 100's single player mode in two sittings the last couple nights. I actually had fun (with the exception of a couple mini games that are completely luck based). But the reviews are right...now that I'm done that mode and unlocked everything, there's nothing to do single player-wise except play the one board/map included repeatedly. Meh.

Also added Xbox and Xbox 360 to my list. Still debating which ones to go with...KOTOR is likely for Xbox.

So just path A? I'm a little confused because "second playthrough" makes me think you've played path B as well. It's not over until you finish E and you haven't really seen what the game has to offer until you've done C/D.

ya if you only have ending A you have only done about 20 percent of the game. there is so much more, but each path gets faster, and once you get D you can pretty instantly get E. the game begins super proper at C and its def the best part of the game. keep going it will look like you are starting over but it diverges paths very quickly after the initial sequences.... hint.. remember those chests you couldnt seem to open.....??

After toiling away for months, I finally beat Castlevania III. I say months because I started it last October, got frustrated, and just picked it back up yesterday. In certain sections the game became a memory test as I had to remember where to stand, where to jump, what candles to whip, what candles NOT to whip, and where I had to get in order to achieve a much desired checkpoint. Dracula's Curse is a great game, but pretty irritating at times. Lastly, I am proud of the accomplishment as the Castlevania series is my favorite non-Mario franchise in gaming.

I also ran through the Super Famicom version of Final Fight 2. Talk about your by-the-numbers 16-bit beat em up; definitely the weakest of the three for the console. Well, Castlevania puts my number up to 9/18. Onto the next one!

Hey that just means it's easy lol.

I don't think I'm going to finish it this year. I just can't think of anything for 32x or N64 that I want to play at all. Vita might be a challenge too at this point since I've cleared all that I wanted to on it and there aren't really appealing new games coming out on it.

32X is easy! Doom 32x, it's actually my favorite version of Doom because it's so short. Plus I mashed a bunch of controls and activated cheats I had no idea existed. You can just run through it with invincibility on and listen to the epic ost! Doom 64 is short too, if I remember right.

@razeak Go ahead and throw me up on the main topic with my 4 systems, if that's cool, it should motivate me to play more and surf the interwebs less.

If you like puzzles and haven't played it yet, check out Hitman GO: Definitive Edition. It's not really a Hitman game, but rather a turn based puzzle game where you navigate through a level. I loved it, and for $7, it isn't too expensive. Plus it includes all the DLC and hints from the original game (a mobile title).

The first few titles on PC I bet will probably be replays (specifically Superhot and Portal 2, both games I love.) I built a brand new gaming PC and those are the first games I nearly finish. *sighs*

I may finish Tokyo 42, though that one might take me a little while. It is pretty fun though, for those who want to check it out on Twitch Prime.

That's when you sign up for your 4 systems and you just stack those SNES clears. First obvious clear is The Great Waldo Search, which I beat completely by accident. And I thought the NES game was a waste of $60...

I think DOOM 64 is excellent. You have to adjust the controls in my opinion to really enjoy it though. I would advise looking at a walk through to decide if you want to pick up the artifacts. They make the last boss not total trash. Doom 64 feels more like a horror game with guns than a gun game with demons. It's great.

Beat Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker on the Wii U a couple of weeks ago, just now putting it on my list. I haven't quite completed the game, as that requires 100% completion on every stage. It was a really enjoyable game and the tone was just what the doctor ordered after Bloodborne sessions. There were also a lot of stages, more than I bargained for from the outset. That puts my total up to 10/18!

I really liked it, I am a huuuge fan of the series also. there are things I liked better in AoT 1 but overall this one is a little cleaner in some respects. the story of this game could have been a mode in the first though, its pretty much the same everything.

Beat Ganbare Goemon on the GameBoy Color. Before buying this one there was very little that I could find on the internet about it; no reviews on YouTube and minimal text reviews. It was a little expensive ($45) and honestly I was a little disappointed. For a GBC game the graphics and music were excellent and the game had the feel of the console Goemon games. The length and challenge, however, left a lot to be desired. I beat the game in under two hours and never broke a sweat, even against the final boss. Well, such is life. That puts me up to 11/18 with Final Fantasy 7 coming to an end very soon!

After about 35 hours, I put the finishing touches on good, old Sepiroth last night. It was my first time beating Final Fantasy VII in about 15 years and the only time that I've run through it on the Playstation; my original playthrough was on the PC version. Along with the music, the settings/landmarks were what caused the most nostalgia for me. For whatever reason the train tracks leading to Corel really brought back memories of playing it on the family Gateway with my little brother watching (on a keyboard, no less).

Overall I had a really enjoyable experience going back through FF7. Even after all of these years the graphics were mostly pleasant to look at (with the aforementioned backgrounds a highlight). The music was fantastic (much better than the PC midis) and the story remains a stone cold classic. My only issue was how easy the game was. I didn't tackle Emerald or Ruby weapon, as they require some serious grinding to even stand a chance against. Everything else, however; was a piece of cake and I particularly cracked up at how quickly I waxed Jenova on the final stretch. In the end I'm really glad that I decided to run through one of Squaresoft's crowning jewels on the original hardware that it was released on.

That puts me up to 12/18 for the system challenge!

If this question is directed at me: not quite. I actually started playing through Street Fighter Alpha 3's "World Tour" mode today. I've got Skies of Arcadia, which I've never beaten and Soul Reaver is another option. I'm struggling with what I'm planning to play on DC and N64 right now. Ocarina of Time, Sin and Punishment, Goemon's Great Adventure, or Conker's Bad Fur Day? Decisions, decisions.

That sucks. Usually when the doc says "Idk what fixed it" that's a sign that they didn't.

I pinched a nerve in my arm over the weekend and it's been achy nonstop, every moment I'm awake unless I hyper-rotate my hand counter clockwise, which at least gets me to sleep. Thought I might have massaged it out last night, was convinced I had, until I got up and it came right back. :(

But this morning it seems fine, even though I woke up at 6ish and it hurt like a dog until I rolled over to sleep another hour. So maybe that'll be you!

Just polished off Ganon in Ocarina of Time. Much to my embarrassment, I've never beaten OoT until tonight. When I got it way back in '98, I beat the Shadow Temple and for whatever reason just never got back to it. I was notorious for not completing games as a youngster and this game was one among many that met that very fate. Alas, I can finally say that I've finished a true classic in the Zelda franchise and gaming as a whole. That puts my total up to 13/18!

super completionists could probably push this to 60 hours, but I think I finished all chapters in a little under 40? its amazing, truly an experience. there are 5 "paths" to complete the main game, A B C D and E, and each is shorter than the last for the most part, and d and e fall right on top of each other. don't stop til you have those. don't want to spoil anything unless you want to know.

if you aren't familiar with the timeline and world of dragkengard and nier ive got a great video that can catch you up and be ready to play this and catch references and meanings and see how the world got to this point.

New season, new Torment XII champion. Each ladder I participate in I seem to be doing better before I get bored and quit; this morning I popped a Gem of Ease into a 2H Longbow that I crafted (first shot Ancient to boot) and threw it to a new seasonal Demon Hunter, finished one bounty in Torment I (solo!) easily, hit level 30 in 4 minutes. That gem basically invalidates speed running, at that point you speed run yourself and it's hilarious. Shoulda thrown a red gem into a slotted helm for even more lulz.

Double Treasure Goblins just needs to be a new Ladder feature imo. AND I FINALLY GOT NEMESIS BRACERS, ONLY TOOK SIX YEARS TO DROP (LITERALLY.)

Well I certainly love them and they are my fav genre to be sure, though we have several big time rpg'ers around.

Here is the vid..this vid is great because the connections between games span novellas and such as well which she covers in this pretty well. She forgoes drakengard 2 as it's not actually part of the timeline. Yoko taro didn't work on that one.

The timeline goes drakengard 3, drakengard 1, nier, nier automata. There is other stuff that's not in the games that she covers here.

I ended up with a little under 100 hours on Nier: Automata. I still want to go back and play the DLC because I finished everything else long before the DLC released and had moved on.

@tonymack21 Did you ever play the DLC for Nier:Automata? What did you think of it?

Also,

does Emil ever come back if you kill him? That was one of the last things I did and I didn't see him anywhere after that.

I never saw him either but I was done with the game at that point so I wasn't out in the world really

I didn't play the dlc it's just side quests really, and wasn't too interested in paying for costumes, I was done and moved on as well. Had their been a lot of story exposition or whatever I'd def play it though. Last year was such a great year for rpgs. Persona 5, nier automata and Tokyo Xanadu had me in weeb heaven for weeks.

Yeah, it was one of the best years ever for Japanese action/rpgs imo. I still need to play P5 and Ys VIII, I'm running out of excuses.

What kind of rpg is Tokyo Xanadu? More action or more traditional J-RPG?

it is indeed a combo of a persona style game with the combat of Ys. its amazing, in a year without Persona 5 it could have been my game of the year easy. one of my top jrpgs. the ps4 version fixes some technical hiccups of the vita version and adds an extra epilogue chapter, and they are talking about doing more of them after TX was well received, so they need to go ahead and just take all my money now.

P5 is amazing, like the best jrpg ever. FF7 and X of course still right up there for me. I need to play Ys VIII as well, yakuza and Ys are next two series im going to try and get caught up on, along with all the "trails of" stuff, so in like 3 years maybe i'll be there lol

hahaha, tell me about it. Steam has almost all of the Ys games now just in case you didn't know. The first game is still my favorite, but they're all very enjoyable and fairly short for rpgs.

I hope they release a Ys compilation on PS4/5 some day. I don't have a controller anymore for my gaming PC.

Yeah, I used a wired 360 controller for years, than I gave it to my brother and decided to try and use my DS4 wirelessly on my PC, but I could never get it to work properly.

I think it worked fine if it was plugged in though. I honestly haven't done much PC gaming lately.

Do you or anyone else know how to get the DS4 to work wirelessly? I should just pick up an X1 controller when they go on sale, I'm sure it's a lot easier to use them on PC.

xbox Is easy, but ds4 is pretty good too, xbox works natively with windows, and most things recognize it. for dualshock I think all you need is DS4Windows, which is a free program afaik and then it works great from what ive seen. it essentially just tells windows its an xbox controller, but it has some configuration stuff too I believe.

for the newer style xbox controller with Bluetooth if your pc has that it will sync up, for the older x1 you'll need the little usb antenna, I use that and it works well. or if you want wired just plug the controllers usb cable in

Just finished Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on PSP.

I remember being so incredibly stoked when this game came out only to completely burn out on those repetitive side missions. I stuck it out this time and let myself focus on the main story. The Genesis storyline and the random callbacks to the original game are lame, but the moments in the campaign that dramatize moments that were previously only seen as flashbacks... I really enjoyed that. And the ending sequence is a megaton.

Not sure if it was worth waiting a decade to play, but I enjoy how it wrapped up. I also got a kick out of seeing such a primitive action RPG engine having just finished FFXV. We've come a long way.

Added DS to the list, but I think I'm still technically halfway there.

I played this way back and liked it a lot then (I like FF7 stuff, shocker I know), but haven't played it in years, I could see aspects not holding up as well, but exposing on the stuff that was only eluded to and flashbacks is pretty great. the ending is indeed a megaton.

at this point I wouldn't think its spoiler tag worthy.. FF7 is over 20 years old..and if you don't know this you aren't interested in rpgs lol... but I guess i'll spoiler it anyway..

I fought the ending sequence for a long time, I was like give me your best shot.. you cant have him! I was so OP though they couldn't beat me.. I figured at some point it would just overwhelm you.. but it never did. I had to let him go... tears welled up and falling.. and when Aerith feels it.. omg right in the heart. I still tear up at the ending of advent children when you see them and zack gives you that little hand flip

Eh, better safe than sorry. Knights of the Old Republic has been out for a hundred years, and I still wish the story hadn't been spoiled for me.

I did one of those 200+ Soldier missions shortly before finishing the game, so when I saw that mob of military troops, I had a bit of a "been there, done that" attitude. A couple of poorly-timed Missile attacks finished me off, though.

The part of the ending the hit me the hardest is when Zack is on the ground, after the final battle phase where he's limping around and struggling to swing his sword... The last trooper walks up to him and just shoots him in the head. So much more intimate than the way than his send-off in FF7, where it looks like he's just being shot at from a distance by machine guns.

Doesn't matter how much of a Super Soldier you are, bro. You're still not bulletproof.

I finished the original Zelda today. Nope, never played through it before. In fact, in all my years, I don't think I made it past the first four dungeons.

Despite how much I love the series, this is only the third Zelda game I finished, the other two being Link's Awakening (when I was in elementary school) and Breath of the Wild. It's surprisingly sharp after all this time, but once I got to Level 5, I was really feeling the pain of the lack of diagonal movement.

This game clear brought to you by @Gypsy who, if he hadn't gotten me a sick deal on a Nintendo, I wouldn't have wandered into a game shop one weekend, picked up Zelda 2 and said "Fudge it, why not." Up until the last two temples it was a solid 8/10 game but the cart kept not saving things like spells and completed dungeons, so not once but TWICE I had to hike from the start of the game to the last dungeon and the crapfest they stack in between those two points after finding out I was missing something critical to actually finishing the game. The backtrack crap and INTENSE shift from challenging enemy layout to "paste hard to hit crap over multiple pitfalls" towards the end of the game really soured the endgame experience.

However something I wasn't aware of was the Game+ mode this unlocks after a clear, which resets your extra heart and magic containers and items, but retains your sword techniques and spells, so you effectively can replay the game and skip all the derpy sidequest crap. That's kinda cool. I may clear it again for giggles.

Haven't recently been playing many games on consoles that I've yet to complete a game on. I'll have Rocket Knight Adventures on the Sega Genesis down sooner or later; unfortunately limited continues can be problematic angry.

On a positive note, I finally beat Hard Corps: Uprising on the Microsoft Xbox 360. Having attained my first achievement in the game way back in 2011, it was a long time coming. I've got to mention that I beat the game in "Rising Mode" which allows for the purchasing of extra lives, health(!), and even a triple jump laughing out loud. I feel no shame, however; beating that game in Arcade Mode would be a rather momentous task.

Additionally, I finished up Ganbare Goemon Kirakira Dōchū: Boku ga Dancer ni Natta Wake, or what would have been Legend of the Mystical Ninja 4 had it been released over here in the states. I have been finding myself falling further in love with Goemon games, the characters, and all of the ridiculousness that ensues in this franchise. Having scooped up the third entry on the Super Famicom, I now have all four on that console, both Nintendo 64 titles, one on the Game Boy Color, and what is currently the final game in the franchise on the Nintendo DS. As with Castlevania, Contra, and a whole other slew of games, Konami is letting one of their longest running series rot away for no good reason whatsoever. At least they released a veritable ton of Goemon games during its heyday, so there's plenty still left that I haven't played.

My total remains unchanged, as I still sit at 13/18 consoles completed. Until next time!

Completed Rocket Knight Adventures on the Sega Genesis tonight. I swear, Konami in the late 80s to early-to-mid 2000s was a third party company to be reckoned with. Great graphics, catchy music, fair-but-difficult challenge, and tight controls; all wrapped up in a standout title. I'd like to get my hands on Sparkster, but it's a little pricey on both the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. Well, that puts me up to 14/18 systems down. Keep her moving!

Man, Shenmue is pretty awful. I generally don't like saying a game aged poorly but it's never been more apt than Shenmue. It was mind blowing at the time but now there are so many games that do the same thing better. I used to play this every year but stopped many years ago and I quickly remembered why. It felt like a slog and I had to play it in bits and pieces. I really hope Shenmue 3 doesn't suck. Just make it good and tell people that want it to be like the original to piss off lol.

DS is finished. I beat Retro Game Challenge.

It's funny playing this game now, when neo-retro is practically the default style for most indie games. I picked it up shortly after release because I'm an old nostalgic fart, and because IGN gave it a pretty good review. It's a lot of fun, and the design is awesome - especially the music - but I stopped dead in my tracks when I reached Guadia Quest during my original playthrough. A sluggish Dragon Quest-style RPG with slow repaints and truncated menus? No thanks.

I didn't let it stop me this time. It actually wasn't as dull as I expected, and the title that comes next is a blast. The final challenge _totally_ blindsided me, though. Thank goodness for those in-game magazines.

what kind of performance do you get with psnow? what speed is your service? mine is usually fast enough probably, I just don't feel like I could get 20 dollars a month out of it, love gamepass at 10 though, id consider psnow at 10

I've found it works well on what I believe to be a typical Internet speed, as long as no one else in the house is using any Internet at all.
It definitely has its issues (price point being one) I'm just always surprised when people don't seem to even know what it is.

Beat all missions on Robo Recall for the Rift. Not even close to unlocking all the stars or upgrades for weapons, though. It's so fun I will probably keep popping into it from time to time.

If you have a gaming PC and have been contemplating picking a VR system up, I HIGHLY recommend it. These past few days of owning it have been some of the most gaming fun I have had in my lifetime.

Technically I beat MMX1 and 2 on PC, but since there's no save-scumming in the Mega Man X Legacy Collections I'll count them as SNES/PSX/PS2 clears. MMX2 was rough to 100%, but the Sigma fights were push-overs compared to all the other Sigma stages I've done in the series up to this point, but this was my first legit MMX2 clear ever, and I've never beaten MMX3, 6, 7 or 8. Probably not going to 100% any other games in the series, mostly because 100% MMX3 seems like nightmare fuel. Could probably 100% MMX4 and 5 though, since I've done that before.

I'm not in a rush to beat MMX3 again, what an butt-hole of a game. MORE MISSILES, MORE SPIKES. You actually have to farm enemies a specific way to fill up your tanks because the chances of you picking up health items when you're already at full health through normal game progression is fudging zero, the game was designed to always. be. damaging. you. And then it eats your inputs occasionally when it's lagging hard enough. Oy.

But I cheesed the crap out of Sigma. Screw that fight.

Finished Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite on Xbox One. Picked it up during the big sale a few weeks ago, and was sorely disappointed it's no longer the color-and-light overload that it used to be. Save for a couple of choice lines, the cutscenes were a bore, too.

Oh well. We'll always have the originals.

On a semi-related note, I'm super disappointed that so much of the game is blocked from streaming. I can understand blocking the cutscenes (sort of) but once the fights start, Capcom should have enabled broadcasts and screenshots again.

Metroid is a lot tougher than I thought. I never spent a whole lot of time with the original. My biggest complaint is blind drops onto enemies. It's good, but not mindblowing. Maybe if I had played it more in the 80s/90s.

Saturday Morning RPG on Vita is fun, but not great by any stretch. They have a lot of good ideas, but it is too repetitive.

Android - Leo's Fortune. An amazing mustache with a platforming game on top of it.

Finished off two more yesterday: Muramasa Rebirth for the Vita, and Leo's Fortune on Android.

It's really hard to track down exclusives for the Vita, especially ones that haven't been ported to a better platform. Muramasa ends up on every such list, though. It's beautifully rendered and looks amazing on both a TV and a handheld, but I can't help but feel like I made my way through the game by spamming the Square button a million times.

Leo's Fortune was actually the first time I played through a game on my Shield, which has been sitting there like a glorified Chromecast. It plays like a less brutal Super Meat Boy with Sonic mechanics. Amazing production values for such a tiny indie game.

I have one platform left - Game Boy Color - and I'm at a loss as to what to play. I've been trying to play games that aren't available as digital downloads anywhere, so that excludes most of Nintendo's first-party titles. Anybody have any suggestions?
