Games usually stick around for about a year unless they're 1st party and then they're on there forever. You can look to see when the game will be removed most of the time by selecting the game and it should say when its going to be available thru, or at least what month it was added and then just assume that it will be removed 1 year from that point. If you like a game thats on GP then you get 20% off of it, and if you want any of the DLC then its 10% off. that applies to every game.

Looks like we may be seeing more of Control at GDC. They just released a new gameplay demo. Looks pretty good. I like the whole telekinesis power spin. Seems like Remedy is sticking with it's supernatural theme from Quantum Break. Any game that makes me have force powers and makes me feel like a Jedi is A-OK by me. yes

MS Rewards is having a sale to where you can get 3-months of GP for 13,500 points, pretty sweet deal. I was able to redeem 15 months worth so I should be good for a while.

Damn, I'm not even sure how you get points rapidly. I only have like 1,300. It says I can do surveys and stuff to boost it up, but I probably won't get anywhere close to 13,500 before the deal ends on GP. It's a shame too, I could use it since my GP is gonna expire in a month.

I get my points by using Bing and I get all the daily points to keep the streak going and then I get the mobile points every night right before bed. I have 3 years of XBL already and I've not paid for GP for about a year, now I won't have to pay any more for 1.25 years more.

do it with retroarch so you can reduce input lag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADAZ6-WicVQ

just note that the guy that made the video is counting wrong, it should be 1 instead of two K presses you should count after the first k press.

You don't need to use a front-end to reduce input lag. Most emulators have extremely low input delay regardless, and all of them have settings to reduce it at the cost of emulation performance (buffers make sure crap's good before it hits your eyeballs and speakers). And we're literally talking tens of milliseconds here, not something realistically measurable or noticeable in the grand scheme of things.

One thing you will NOT get around is the encode/decode time between the PC and the Xbox, which will be substantial, even on a local network, assuming there's extremely low delay input to OS (multiple data streams so inputs aren't tied to the A/V stream since they don't need to be). And if you don't have a hardwired Gigabit infrastructure end to end, you're really going to be taxing yourself to get something usable. I'd like to try it out but I'd have to interrupt my roomie's evening routine to do so, and frankly all I'd do is play Yakuza anyways. raspberry

Walking Dead: Michonne

so far it seems like Squeenix's GP offerings are its slightly less successful and the kind of non rpgs? but you never know it could happen I suppose. id think they would be less likely to add the longer rpgs til they are a little older so as not to hurt sales, at this point it doesn't hurt Deus Ex and apparently JC4 wasn't doing so well anyway.

That's right, I guess Square wants to weed out all the games that haven't met sales expectations and seeing as though FF games are a hot topic now, with the remasters and all, it probably wouldn't make sense to let them onto GP right away.

Probably won't see a new FF game on it since its SE's best selling franchise. These other games we probably will which is evident with what we've gotten added recently. No complaints from me, especially seeing as how I haven't really enjoyed a FF game for quite a while now.

There is a noticeable difference, try playing games like punch out or the old mario games i noticed the lag right away. retroearch makes it easy to improve that and also to add a nice shader.

The front ends like RA aren't doing anything the emulators can't do themselves. RA is not making your input delay go away, it's telling the emulator to do it, which it can do itself. If anything RA is always going to be less robust than the emulator it hides behind closed curtains.

Today Spencer said that right now XCloud is running off of speeds as low as 5mbps and with 10ms of lag. Xcloud also has the advantage of not needing any additional coding to get a game into the cloud network, if a dev makes a game for Xbox then its natively compatible with XCloud right off the bat.

And that was just their 1080p stuff too. Now, I don't know what MS's resolution is that only required 5mbps, but if its 1080p as well then they're going to be far ahead of Google right off the bat in terms of potential market penetration.

I don't know what to think of Sekiro right now. The last 2 games I've played have been 75 hours and 40+ hours, so I just don't think I'm in the mood for a From Soft game at the moment. I just need a few weeks with something fast and mindless because I'm getting burnt out with being stuck on just 1 game for a whole month.

Im more then excited for this title. It will be a whole nother fighting system to master. I saw yesterday on reddit that a guy said that after 7 hours he just beat the first main boss. Took him 10 tries. He also said he had killed 3 mini bosses and still had 3 other mini bosses that he couldn't beat.
Some people were trying to say the game will be short, but with at least 10 main bosses and countless dozens of mini bosses, I will get at least 50 hours from first playthru

And that Back 4 Blood game, if it ever comes out, will be on my radar for sure. I loved the heck out of L4D2 back in the day.

Its rumored to be hitting a sub $200 price point. I wouldn't be surprised if its aiming for $150. Their physical to digital trade-in program is pretty cool too. I don't have much interest in it, but I could definitely see some pretty good potential with this thing even its just a media streaming box since even something like the Roku Ultra is $100 and can't play Xbox games.

Brad Sams said that, from what hes seen, it will be a sub $200 console. Its also probably why they kept the HDD at 1TB because if they put any more storage into it and the price would jump pretty quick. I think that MS is also testing the waters with this console to get an idea of where the industry is right now with digital adoption.

ya especially since they are supposedly planning for the next gen xbox to launch with a variant like this too. I would consider these lower cost digital only consoles for the kids, digital sharing makes it where they can play co-op or both play at the same time with digital sharing, only problem is when they are both playing im locked out of my xbox library, they need a better family plan, it should be easy to enough to tell that all the consoles are on the same home network. the kids haven't used a disc in forever and I do probably only 10% of the time maybe less

Less than $200 is what they're going for, I've heard its supposed to be less than the $199.99 console. And the issue I see here is we have one person saying it needs to be less than $199.99 then another one saying it needs to have a min. of 3tb. I don't think we can have both of those options, we pretty get one, and the one MS seems have to chosen to go with is cheaper console which is I think is the correct decision since USB storage is ridiculously cheap, far cheaper than if MS added in more store out of the box. If they put 3-5tb in then we would probably be looking at it hitting $250 or $300 and then people would complain that its too expensive and aren't interested.

I hope so, we have 4 xb1's and only being able to use 2 at a time can be a bother, I have plenty of other stuff I can play while they're on their Xboxes, but setting one kids as the home and then the other kid having me signed on in addition to himself so he can play means if I sign in he gets knocked off, and since "mine" isn't the home xbox I cant play offline, so it would be nice if they could work that out.

I cannot fault them because Steam has turned into a pile of dookie lately, my PC friend was telling me. Plus, I watch Jim Sterling pretty avidly and he posts numerous videos bashing Steam for not having a good filtering system of trolling user created content and having a bad algorithm feature for sorting games. Meaning a game like Control, which may be considered close to premium quality will refresh on the Steam store next to a game like Rape Day lol it just makes no sense and will turn off buyers thinking their game is associated with smut. I guess it's not the PC store it once was and the new kids on the block, Epic, are reaping in the benefits of Steam's flaws and screw ups.

That's what happens when one company gets to run around relatively unchecked for so long; they get lazy and complacent. That why when I see people wanting a console manufacturer to exit the market so they can have it all to themselves I question if they know how horrible it would be if any of the "Big 3" got to run the show. It would be a disaster.

It's the same on the Switch eShop. Now when I buy something that could be considered a hidden gem I try to spread the word about it on as many forums as I can before it gets further buried among the crap Nintendo allows to infest the eShop.

I'm staying loyal to Steam either way. I downloaded the Epic Games client, but it's just like EA Origin and uPlay where I'll only boot it up when they're giving away a free game. Steam is the only one I'll spend money on, just because I want my library that I actually care about to all be in one place. It could change in the future but for now Steam has done me no wrong.

Sekiro is getting really good reviews but the digital foundry video seemed to be saying that it runs terrible on the base consoles, like 15fps territory. They also only got the show the first 2 hours of the game, so that may be part of the issue, but then again, From Soft has never been at making their games run smoothly. Kind of disappointing because for people with the OG X1.

Microsoft is going to start something called "ID@Xbox Game Pass" where they showcase indie games coming to Game Pass. I think its a great opportunity for some of those smaller games to get some exposure when they may have otherwise just gotten lost in the XBL store. I think this is what that Damon Baker guy (who MS just hired away from Nintendo, he was responsible for all the "Nindie" stuff) has been up to. The first show is this next Tuesday at 9amPST.

Ya, it seems the older stuff is better than the newer stuff they're giving away and the past like 3 months they've been giving away Star Wars games. I hope May's GWG is KOTOR II. That's really the only SW game left on OG Xbox that I have yet to rebuy.

Yeah, the good thing about the OG Xbox games for people who don't like them being added, is that there isn't too many of them left to add, and the ones that are left are like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Ninja Gaiden, KoToR 2, and Black. After that they either need to add more BC games to the catalog or go back to two X1 games and 2 X360 games.

I think out of all the major X360 games left there's only very few major ones they haven't added I think. I am still hanging onto hope that one day these games will be BC, since they are all that remain in my collection that have not gone BC to date:

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
Condemned 2: Bloodshot
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Max Payne 3
Mortal Kombat 9
Ninja Gaiden 3
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
X-Men Origins: Woverine

I would imagine the only really challenging game to add to their library might be X-Men because of licensing issues, but the rest, especially Enslaved since MS owns Ninja Theory now, is possible.

Its really fun. I bought it on a whim and played through it probably 5 times. Its short, just about 4-5 hours which makes replays much more appealing. This game reminded me a lot of Capcom in their prime when they had Clover Studios making crazy Japanese games before they shut that studio down.

I was going to buy technomancer as it was on gamepass and disappeared plus it is relatively but now I don't have to. Game looked like it could be fun in a janky budget title way. It is a bit janky with weird save point but it had moments where it was pretty good. Seemed to have lots of strategy involved or the fights would get difficult if you went about them the wrong way.

There are definitely weird issues with the game like really bad enemy AI and floaty controls, but I really needed a game right now that allowed me to just turn my brain off and have some stupid fun for a while after playing 2 loooooong pretty boring grindy games back to back. They need to come out next gen with a good priced powerful console and good launch games and a clear message as to what they're doing. Also Game Pass next gen will be a big feature because upon launch you get access all their 1st party games. I think that coming out with 2 consoles is the best method because it caters to all gamers and people who want a more powerful more expensive machine can have one but not everyone is forced into that as their only option.

And I cannot wait for that Cyberpunk game. I'm drooling. I hope they give us a release date finally, but I'm not holding my breath for that. I did read recently that CD Projekt Red has another game just as big as Cyberpunk in the works to be released by 2021. Witcher spin-off game maybe? Possibly focusing on Ciri?

Infinite right now is supposed to be a launch game. They're wanting to come out of the gates hard next gen. Gotta have Halo at launch, is a major cornerstone for Xbox and will really drive people next gen. I think its supposed to be available for current gen too, but who knows what features will be cut from the X1S or OG X1 since they have trouble running current AAA games.

I don't expect the other big game by the holy prophets to be a ciri spinoff, but I guess you never know. she is super OP at the end of wild hunt and they'd have to nerf her somehow. something that might be pretty cool is a game set in the witcher universe before the time of geralt and crew, when all the witcher schools were still a thing and there were more of them, but at the same time I just don't know that would have the magic. if they never made another one id be fine, and its my far and away favorite thing ever... sometimes leaving something as perfection is the way to go.

I played BL1 quite a bit and really enjoyed it. I had no idea that you could find crazy legendary gear though, I just ran around with a revolver that had infinite ammo and crazy poison abilities and wondered why I couldn't kill any loot bosses, lol. Most of the DLC in BL1 was so bad though. The last one they dropped was pure trash of the highest order. You had to do like 100 rounds of arena fights and each one took a couple of minutes to do and there were no check points if you turned the game off, so you needed around 3 hours of free time just to complete it.....and there were 3 of those. They had one really good DLC though, can't remember the name but it added around 20 hours of gameplay.

I tried three times to get into the first borderlands game never could. Skipped 2. Then the Handsome Jack collection came out and I got it for some reason. Ended up loving 2. Spent so many hours in it and got the 100%. Thought the per-sequel was just okay and was kind of burned on that style and stopped half way through it. So I'll be giving the first a try again now. And maybe I'll go back to TPS at some point. I like that there are multiple worlds in 3. That sounds great.

You really kind of need people to play with in BL1. I played solo and thought it was pretty good, but playing it with my brother made the game 10x better. BL2 I played about 99% solo and loved it. Presequal was just kind of meh.

Sounds like the entire Anthem mess was almost solely the fault of Bioware and EA had very little involvement in the mess. It spent 4 years in "preproduction" and when it was shown at E3 they didn't even start the game yet and didn't know it was going to be called Anthem until just a few days prior or that it would have flying in it OR that it would be a looter shooter. Supposedly, Bioware made the game in 17 months and went into a huge development crunch and thought that "Bioware magic would save the game" because its the exact same way that Dragon Age Inquisition was made but they lucked out and it worked for them that time so they decided to develop Anthem the same way. It got to the point that employees were reduced to taking 1-3 months off of work because of stress and would sit in empty conference rooms by themselves crying. EA got lots of hate for the state at which this game launched, but it sounds like Bioware completely screwed the pooch and were hugely responsible for how this game turned out.

Bioware needs to be bought by someone who would be willing to invest money into building the team back up to what it used to be. Along with Bioware, they need to acquire the franchises to the games which made them known in the industry, stuff like Mass Effect and Dragon Age. EA seems to have no interest in managing that team and with how talent depleted Bioware is now I don't think they'll be able to make anything like they used to.

I know lots of people think ME2's the pinnacle but that's the game I started to see a direction I wasn't wanting. Still good, but "Hey, what's up, this feels off".

In hindsight, I was fine with DA2, because I loved the narrative, even if the game itself suffered a lot, but they just don't seem to be able to recreate those original jolts like they used to. DAO was incredible, ME was incredible. I still, to this day, continue to forget DA:I and ME:A actually exist until someone says something about them and I'm like "Oh yeah, those..."

I agree. ME2 I started to notice a really weird direction that just didn't feel right, especially the guns needing clips, just felt like a dumbed down generic 3rd person EA game. ME1 was the panicle of the searies for me even though it was by far the most unpolished of the 3. The lore, story, RPG system, and immersion wasn't ever matched after that game.

one of if not the last true bioware game i suppose.. 2 and 3 i still love because of the lore, characters especially and because they werent full on EA but it was getting there with ME3 and the loot boxes, and making multiplayer somewhat neccessary to the story if you wanted the best ending. you could do it without but you can only get your meter so high without multiplayer.

I replayed ME1 probably 10 different times, then I think ME2 maybe 4-5 times (kept trying to get an achievement for not losing anyone, still kept losing someone at the end regardless of what I did), and ME3 only twice and the 2nd time was specifically achievement related. I would love an ME Trilogy remake and would buy it at full price in a heart beat, I just really wish that all 3 games would have played more like the first, if that were to have happened then I think it very well would have been the best trilogy ever in gaming. I have no idea how I was losing them, but when I attacked the hive I would always have to sacrifice one of the squad members. I did all the loyalty missions, had 100% paragon rating, everything I needed but something would always happen to where I would lose someone. It was often Zaeed that I ended up losing and after the 3rd or 4th playthrough trying for that 1 achievement I finally just said screw it and was done with the game.

Yeah, I don't know WTF was going on but I even went online to see if people were having similar issues and apparently some others were having the same problem. Some could fix it by doing certain things while some people were like me and screwed out of the achievement. Really actually pissed me off because I did 3 extra playthroughs I really didn't want to do.

Man, I remember MDK2 so well. I played it on the Dreamcast and whenever I think back about it...a feeling of frustration rises up from my gut. I can't remember what exactly about that game was rough, but it was either cheap or beyond my abilities at the time (that's likely). I recall replaying certain bits over and over and over and over again.... Maybe checkpoints were few and far between? But once I beat it I reveled in that glory for days...but traded the game away immediately the next day haha.

It had really tough platforming sections and the stages where you played as Kirk you had to be on point with sniping or you were going to have a rough life. The Dr. had some really tough stages as did the Dog. I really remember being stuck on certain parts for days at a time (no internet at the time) and the final boss seemed like he took around an hour to beat if you didn't die. I liked all the touches in the game, like when sniping you got a secondary screen that shows you on 3rd person so you avoid fireballs and other projectiles.

Enough to buy it on ps4 when it first released and I bought the deluxe version on Xbox when the mooncrash dlc released. It's kinda a mix between system shock, bioshock and dishonored. There is certainly a point where you feel you've "caught up" with GamePass and are waiting on new things to be available. But even so it's still a crazy savings. I've been disappointed by several games (Just Cause 4, Hellblade)...so that's saved me $90 or so right there, and I still got to try them out at my leisure. That's nuts for $10/month.

Honestly, I'm in love with Hydro Thunder Hurricane which is a $15 digital game, so that pays for itself a few times over.

So the recent Star Wars hub-bub put me in the mood to play some Star Wars Battlefront 2. It's easy to hate on EA for their garbage points but I actually think the gameplay of BF2 is fun and the locations are interesting enough. But that's neither here nor there, because I fired up my Xbox One for the first time in months to find that the ORIGINAL Battlefront II is free on Games with Gold. What a wonderful surprise to find, downloading it now.

I imagine there are no multiplayer servers for this though, right? Which would be a shame, but I know that I had to play it via Steam with a stand-alone program that let you find fan servers for a long while so I'm pretty sure no more servers for the OG XBox version are still up despite it being available via backwards compatibility. Oh well, it'll be fun to revisit anyhow.

Lots of info starting to get leaked about next gen consoles right now and one I was hearing about yesterday is that the Anaconda devkit has 48GB of GDDR6 at 1500mhz. Normally half of whatever the devkits have is what the retail console ends up with, so we could be looking at 24GB GDDR6 which would make this thing an absolute monster. The CPU will be a custom 7mn 8 core AMD Zen2 equipped with SMT (simultaneous multi-threading) clocked at 3.2ghz. Just the GPU alone is running at 400mhz higher than the 1X currently and (is rumored to) have 2.25x more GBs of RAM. Ray tracing is also expected (as both MS and NVidia together have invented the current RT tech used on PCs, which is what the Anaconda will have) to be available. For $500 its going to be a crazy good bargain. A formal reveal is expected at E3.

Its what all the rumors are saying right now so who knows. The "insiders" are saying that MS doesn't want to release another $600 console because of the feedback they got with the X1 in 2013 and they know they can't sell a console for $600 again. Also supposed to lose money on every console sold but make up for it with subscriptions and games. No idea what the Lockheart is supposed to be release with yet but I think the CPU is supposed to be the same, just a significantly weaker GPU as the $300 price point won't allow for a 24GB GPU.

those specs are the same as what a new interview with PS5 lead designer said about ps5. 7nm 8 core zen2 with 8k and ray tracing. they may end up being pretty similar systems.

fall 2020 is the rumored release date. They showed The X1X over a year before release as well so they'll probably do the same thing here.

> those specs are the same as what a new interview with PS5 lead designer said about
> ps5. 7nm 8 core zen2 with 8k and ray tracing. they may end up being pretty similar

The difference would be if their Zen2 CPU supports SMT and even then they said nothing about the GPU as that's whats supposed to be the main difference between the two consoles as the Anaconda is supposed to be 12+TF to where the PS5 is supposed to be around 10tf max. Sony is also using their own in-house Ray Tracing developed by Polphony to where MS is using their own that has been in use for a while now in games like BF5 and SotTR. The 8k is supposed to just be upscaled from 4k, not native and probably won't be available day 1 since 8k TV adoption is pretty much zero right now. Be interesting to see once we get the full reveal of both consoles because at its at this stage where we typically will start to get more concrete stuff rather than a bunch of rumors.

MS hasn't claimed anything 8k at all and neither have the leakers. For 8k gaming at 60fps you need 2 RTX Titans which would set you back $5k. I feel that 8k gaming is a buzzword that they're using but it will probably end up being supported as much, if not less, than 4k was with the Pro. Also, 8K support could just mean that they'll support 8k video playback which you can do just by including HDMI 2.1, much like the 1X already has. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they didn't specifically say that the PS5 will support 8k gaming, did they?

Wonder if its all PS4 games or if it will be a case by case basis. Licensing typically dictates which consoles you can play specific games on which is why MS needs permission for every games individually that they make BC on the X1.

No they didn't claim 8k gaming over at sony it didn't sound like...just that 8k upscaling would be a thing with ps5.

Ya hadn't thought of that with the bc... The ps2 was universally compatible with ps1 and early PS3 could play 1 and 2 and all 3 can play all 1. So maybe they have theirs set to PlayStation..and not a specific iteration of PlayStation or something. The article sounds like universal PS4 BC.. but we'll see I guess. Maybe they just aren't tipping the full hand yet

If they don't want to cause riots, they should make all PS4 games BC. I'm sure MS will have no issue doing that with their next Xbox with all current XB1 games, so I'm unsure why Sony can't follow suit the same way. Just pony up the dough so there isn't anymore backlash.

Licensing becomes weird because some of the devs don't want their games to be BC because they want to release "HD Remasters" and stuff like that. The earlier PS consoles had to include a PS1 and/or PS2 onboard in order to have BC and I think that was because that may have circumvented copy rights since it was technically playing the game on its original hardware. I don't think they have the copy right stuff to where it encompasses all PS hardware, otherwise the PS Classic would have had a better library. That PS5 patent was for system emulation so its that's the case then the fact that they're emulating older games onto the newer console means that they're violating the older copy rights. It would be nice if they did away with that copy right stuff because its BS and shouldn't exist the way it currently does.

Yeah, I heard $260. Either price, that's a big fudging fail. You shouldn't need have to get this thing on sale to be as cheap as a system with a disc drive in it, it should have been aggressively priced to allow for people to make a no-brain decision to go digital-only. This isn't how you step off the cliff.

Some people were saying $150 was the buy price, I thought that was low. I was thinking around 200, but a $40 discount for no drive's just full-on retardo. I know the drives wouldn't reduce the costs by a full $100 but there's some expectation that this could have been made for around the 200 price and still be profitable, what five, six years down the line? Absolute butt-blast.

Ya I have to agree. $250 is what they should drop the XB1 S disc model down to and price the discless XB1 S at $150ish. I would say $180 max. Definitely not more than that. I guess they are testing the waters to see if people will be dumb enough to buy it for $250 when they could just spend $50 more and have a disc drive which is also capable of playing 4K UHD disc based movies.

I don't think that any X1 consoles sell for MSRP though, the 1X can be bought with a few games for $330 new and the 1S for about $180. I don't see the All Digital selling at its $250 price point though, just like I wouldn't see the 1S selling for $300 and its going to require a price drop to sub $200 before people are interested in it because theres no point in spending more money for a console with no 4k BRD regardless. They kind of put this thing in a bit of peculiar spot with its pricing because if they released this to test the waters then they'll get a false negative result because of its price is currently too high.

Phil knows better than this? maybe i just thought it he did.. i like the guy and am excited about what hes doing maybe he didnt decide this though. maybe they just want to price it at this point and have sales all the time and do it for 199.99, but at 169 which feels well below 200 to the consumer people would think they're getting a better deal and maybe be on it. youre playing from behind here, why not make a big splash with this?

yeah, I mean, technically it is $50 cheaper than the 1S, its just that the 1S is always on sale everywhere to where this one hasn't been on sale yet because its not even out, so I think that makes this look a lot more expensive than it really is. I think if MS priced it at around $150 then it could offset the 1S sales way too much and possibly get MS thinking that there is more interest in an all digital console when really people only bought it because its half the price of the 1S and not because of the all digital aspect. That could negatively influence their plans for next gen and I would hate to see that happen because it would suck for consumers if they were stuck with an all digital console just because the $150 console sold so well. I think that $200 would have been the sweet spot for the console with no games included. I guess you could probably sell the included codes for around $50 pretty easily because FH3 has held its value very well.

Switch only has 1 SKU right now though, we'll see how things go with it once they have 3 different versions out.

Pricing on this thing is tricky IMO. Price it too low and it sells well making MS think that more people are interested in an digital only future than may actually be otherwise. Price it too high and it won't sell making them think that no one is interested in an all digital console.

I think best case scenario would be if MS dropped the price of the 1S to $250 and then price the All Digital at $200 no games included. It would give them the best gauge for public interest in an all digital console without pricing it too low.

If they are adamant at a $250 MSRP they should include like 6 months of Game Pass and XBL along with those 3 digital games to sweeten the deal.

They said that when you buy it you get 3 months of GP, but who knows if thats just a deal that everyone has access to or just the ones who purchased the console. Wonder if retailers will follow the MSRP though or if we'll have some selling it at $200 or less at launch.

retailers will be an interesting case..they may not like this thing, how low can they really go on it.. they usually make nothing or almost nothing on a console, i remember when ps2 came out the store i worked at made less than 10 dollars on the console. i guess they can make it up in accessories or in the digital came cards but ive seen lots of stuff over the years that talked about all digital consoles being a problem until most of the populace is comfortable buying consoles online, as retailers wont stock something they cant make money on. most game sales are online and digital now but lots of consoles still sell at retail.

I've heard that GS makes a ton of money on consoles still, but they make significantly more on games as long as the console has an attach rate of more an 1. If retailers can sell an X1S with 1-2 games bundled in for $200 and still make a profit, then I'm assuming they could probably sell this thing for at least that much and stuff make money. One thing that will be interesting to see is when this thing launches but a retailer currently has the 1S on sale, what are they going to do in that situation? Can't sell the digital only for more than the 1S.

Thanks for posting this...glad to see more Enhanced games. I only got about halfway through Conviction so I'll pop that in to see how it looks now.

Heres a video comparing the X Enhanced version next to the 360 version of Blacklist:

Pretty significant difference. Xbox BC is in a league of its own when it comes to BC, really incredible what they've managed to do with older games using the Heutchy Method.

If you have a good TV then yes. The X is a pretty significant step up from the Pro. Shorter load times, better CPU, significantly better GPU, and good BC. There are many rundowns on Digital Foundry that shows the differences between various 3rd party games. Probably 95%+ of 3rd party play better on the X1X and sometimes at as much as 4x the resolution and better FPS.

All depends on if the dev wants to do the work to take advantage of the X though, which there isn't any guarantee of:

Thers a little more detail you can go into as well which show the difference a bit more on the hardware and features level:

CPU:
X1X - 8 core 2.3ghz
PS4 Pro - 8 core 2.1ghz
-------------------
GPU:
X1X 12GB GDDR5 (9 used for games) @ 326gb/s
PS4 Pro 8GB GDDR5 (5 used for gaming) @ 218gb/s
-------------------
Optical Drive:
X1X has a 4k BRD disc drive
PS4 Pro only supports standard BRD
-------------------
Inputs:
X1X has HDMI 2.1 (can be used for variable refresh rates (or freesync) on compatible monitors and TVs, as well as supports up to 8k video playback)
PS4 Pro has HDMI 2.0 which supports up to 4k.
-------------------
HDR:
X1X supports both HDR10 & Dolby Digital
PS4 supports only HDR10
-------------------
Audio:
X1X supports Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio,
PS4 Pro only supports Dolby Atmos
-------------------
Cooling: (not that big of a deal, but can be for some)
X1X uses a centrifugal vapor chamber (runs almost completely silent)
PS4 Pro uses traditional fan cooling (runs louder as a result)

Yeah, basically PS4 Pro upscaling will frequently go up to 1440p and then do what equates to "gueswork" to figure out how the extra pixel space should be filled. Often it just turns it into a blurry mess, but frankly when you're on a big 4K display even blurry upscales are better than nothing. Xbox One X more often than not can get much, much more clean results by actually outputting at native 4K or some facsimile. RDR2 was running at half 4K on PS4 Pro, for instance; on the X it actually hits 4K. Basically the PS4 Pro does a cheap, efficient job of upscaling for modern displays, whereas the Xbox One X actually has the hardware to output the target 4K resolution. The next gen won't have to fake it (though some poorly optimized games may do so anyways).

The whispers of 8K don't really impress me; 60fps 1080p across the board frankly would impress me more than solid 30fps@4K, but if they could actually hit 60fps4K, that'd be astounding work for home consoles and I'd cheer them on all the more for it.

Yeah, for example, in Diablo 3 both consoles use dynamic resolution and the lowest the X fell to was higher than the highest output of the PS4 Pro. The X only dropped from native 4k in one spot through out the entire game to where the Pro never went above something like 1440p once. The resolution capability difference between the two consoles isn't even close. I guess that AMD went to MS and asked them if they wanted to do an Xbox Pro equivalent and MS said no because they thought the Pro isn't good enough to be a mid-gen refresh which is why they waited a year for the superior console.

The 8k thing I felt was more of just throwing out a buzzword to get people who don't know about specs and hardware requirements to think the console will be an all powerful monster. Its most likely that by "8K" they were talking about 8k video playback support via HDMI 2.1 or some form of upscaling (even then you're not getting 8k textures, so why even bother). Next gen consoles will not even do 8k @ 30fps because you need an RTX Titan to do that, and these Navi cards are supposed to be more inline with a RTX 2070 I believe.

If you have a 4k tv then yes. I didn't feel the Pro was that much of a step up from the slim. It's certainly better but I never felt it was really worth the money whereas the X for me has been more satisfying and way more impressive.

Yeah, we'll have to see what the performance ends up being. 24GB GDDR6 is pretty impressive and if the OS stays light weight at around 3gb then having 21 dedicated to gaming would be great. They're aiming for 12-14tf, so at least double the X.

I guess that internal talk was that they're not releasing a console that is less powerful than the competition again because they spent too long being known as the underpowered console this gen. They have the money to take a much larger hit on the console than Sony can, its just a matter if they're willing to. We'll have to see, and I'm also going to really be interested in knowing the specs much more than at the beginning of this gen. Should be a fun E3.

I know I am a little late on this but i have owned both so will give an opinion.

Technically if you up to your screen on a paused frame you can tell very tiny differences in some games where the One X outperforms.

In real time playing honestly I did not really notice difference, because even on Rise of the TR when you're playing the draw distance looks the same, the checkboard rendering on the PS4 Pro actually does an amazing job a 1440p checkerboarded up to a 2160p image while moving doesn't really look any different to me, and both look a lot better than 1080p.

Because of this even though the numbers point to a slight advantage on the One X I still ended up just using my Pro because the game selection was so much better and because in real world usage i didn't notice much of a difference. And I am playing 12' away from a 160" screen playing on a 4K - HDR projector so I would notice sharpness drops more than most people playing on a 65" screen.

I think if you like the Xbox One games and ecosystem then get the X instead for improved frame rate on some games, but there's no real point to owning both.

It all comes down to if the dev wanted to put forth the effort in taking full advantage of either hardware which sometimes they don't. Games like RDR2 and Shadows of War are probably the 2 most notable differences in games thus far:

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-... (launch the comparison tool to see the differences).

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-...

Will they look pretty comparable when playing one either console, yeah probably. But the differences start to become apparent once you use a comparison tool like what eurogamer has on their site. I'm only speaking in terms of resolution and image quality right now too, and most games seem to hold a more stable frame rate on the X1X vs the Pro unless lazy developers don't optimize.

Thanks! I ended up getting one, because (after credit card rewards and tradeins), I managed to get it for a couple hundred. I figured I can use it to play backwards compatible games I wanted to catch up on from the PS3 era via EA Access and Game Pass (like the Mass Effect Trilogy), games that I've wanted to play for awhile that are only on XBox/PC (Fable I, II, and III), and modern stuff that is only on XBox for the next couple of years and then trade it and my PS4 Pro toward a PS5. I'll probably also use the XBox One X for games where the graphical difference or performance is more noticeable.

Thanks again to everyone who weighed in.

Just comes down to if you think that extra couple of $$$ is worth having a console which gives better visuals & better FPS in nearly every 3rd part game, is backwards compatible with over 500 games, runs more quietly, and has a 4k BRD.

Well my point was the better visuals is arguable or negligible. Real world play I didn't really notice "better visuals" than the Pro.

Backwards Compatible is a plus, I would love to play the original RDR in updated graphics and the 4K player is a definitely plus, I hate that Sony didn't include one in the Pro.

I wonder if the next gen Xbox will still include one because I doubt the PS5 will.

I could see the Anaconda including one but maybe not the Lockheart. I heard they cost the companies only like $5 to include in a console, but maybe if they're already going to lose money for every console sold then they don't want to add to the amount they're taking a hit on. $5 for 5 million console the first few months would be about $25m hit to their bottom line. I would be disappointed, but I still have an X1S in my living room and its not going anywhere, so I'll be good either way.

The Xbox division is still making MS a boat load of cash and I think they've positioned themselves in a good position for the future. I think if they release 2 SKUs next gen (on being $299 and the other being more powerful than the PS5) and launch with Halo Infinite then those two things alone will be enough to get their console sales closer to where they were at last gen.

Also, details are starting to come out of Ninja Theories' next game. Seems to be a story driven 4 player coop MP story driven sci-fi game with melee combat being the primary focus. Its been in development for 6 years now and its supposed to come out next year.

I have big concerns about a "budget" next Xbox being alongside a "premium" next Xbox. I get the approach but I don't like it. Not when the all-digital X1S was released at such a high price. I thought the UHD drive was the big expense so wtf?

Yes, we've seen where an X1 title "runs" on X1/X1S and then is insanely good on X1X because of the thoughtful architecture...but it's still a worse experience on X1/X1S most times compared to even a base PS4.

Although I do think MS has their crap together now, so I'd love to be wrong. But we know the new Xbox will be built off the X1X arch so BC will work. So maybe the "cheap" next Xbox will be basically just be an X1X? Hmmm...that actually makes a lot of sense.

Maybe I'm wrong about all of this...

So my take on it from all the insiders is that we're going to have the two console variants, which should look something like this:

Anaconda:
-Navi GPU running with 24GB GDDR6 and around 12-14tf
-Zen2 CPU with 8 core (16 cores through SMT), running at 3.5ghz/ea
-SSD capable of loading the console's OS from being completely shut off (not sleep mode) to home screen in 3 seconds flat (current gen it takes 45 seconds). They're thinking the SSD will be the next gen NVME SSD tech

Lockheart:
-Navi GPU just like in the Anaconda but only about 8-12GB GDDR6 at about 5tf
-Same CPU
-No word on HDD

They're wanting to build the Anaconda to compete with, and exceed, the PS5 in terns of "raw power" and will target 4k @ 60fps across the board. Don't want to spend $500 for next gen but want to play the newest stuff but don't want really care about 4K? Then thats where the Lockheart comes into play. Its target is a 1080p (maybe up to 1440p) @ 60fps. It will pretty much be the X with lower T-flops but a much better CPU to hold better frame rates.

I think that MS is positioning themselves well with pricing because they'll have the most powerful AND most affordable next gen console on the market day 1 which will suit both kinds of buyers.

xbox has always been my third party machine for the most part.

does MS make a big splash at E3 and reveal their next gen stuff, possibly even if it means shooting the remaining life of the x1 in the foot a little? or do they show off a lot of what all these studios are working on and reveal the new stuff later so as not to detract. do many of those studios even have anything? any of those teams working on large scale projects are probably next gen titles at this point as long as games take to make now.

They're supposed to show Halo infinite and Ninja Theories' new game code named "Bleeding Edge". Other things may also be shown, those games being Fable and Obsidian's next game. They've also supposedly bought 3 more studios. There will also be Gears 5 (supposed to be 4x larger than any other gears game before it), Ori 2, and a bunch more new stuff. That's just what the insiders are talking about, more 1st party studio games are expected.

I dont think that announcing next gen will be shooting themselves in the foot since all launch next Xbox games are playable on current Gen hardware. Also, they announced the X1X 16 months prior to launch and no damage was done. I also think that them beating Sony to the punch will be important going forward.

Bleeding edge, Fable, and Ori aren't FPS, racing or Gears. Actually, this gen there has only been 1 new mainline entry into either Gears or Halo. I also think the next Xbox launching with a new Halo I the best way of starting next gen. Supposed to be a massive game as well with a $500 million budget.

I also like that the games MS makes have continued gameplay value via MP modes and, with gears, online coop. There is much more added value there than a standard 20-30hr long single player game that could essentially be gamefly rentals.

Pretty sweet that all the games I mentioned in my previous post will be playable day 1 through game pass, just more value that game pass continues to offer.

MS has been pretty clear that they want to continue being the hardware leader, now, and next-gen. But they seem to release 1st party games even less than Nintendo, which is nuts.

They are relying on devs to choose to code to their hardware which honestly most should, to best show off their game. So multi platform will still favor Xbox but exclusives are still going to be a problem next gen.

MS has been bulking up their 1st party studios quite a bit. Ninja Theory went from like 50 staff members when they were first purchased to where they're at around 150 now. Since this time last year Microsoft has hired on around 600-1000 new people to all their different development teams. I don't think they'll show a ton for the rest of this generation as its coming to a rest, but next gen is what they're really focusing on now. We'll have to see wait and see to how this all translates to games actually being made though, nothing is a for sure thing.

I hope the next gen MS really lines up their pieces to give us more than 1 or 2 hit or miss first party games every year or 2. I think they have more than enough studio acquisitions now to really give us a lot more than that.

They bought up all those studios and hired on all those new devs because I guess they want to give each big 1st party game 3-4 years development time and release one every 3-4 months with some smaller ones in between to fill the gaps.

They'll have lots of multiplays at their conference too since they'll have a huge show and without competition. Its like how last year CDPR came to MS asking to show Cyber punk at their show since they don't have one of their own.

Its been in development for 6 years I guess and it was the game that MS saw when touring their studios that pushed them to wanting to buy the studio. The game is supposed to be 4-player online coop, story driven, and sci-fi based where the earth has been taken over by aliens and you travel from planet to planet looking for the leaders of the alien race to take them out. Its melee focused but you have a lasso thing like Bullet Storm and guns. It should be at E3 and it slated to launch early next year. Don't know if the flying part will still be in it though.

These reports are coming from a group that is saying that Rocksteady's new game is a Suicide Squad game that is supposed to be announced either today or tomorrow.

im excited to see what some of these studios are doing. Xbox needs a good fable game. they need those long and long-ish single player focused games they used to have. there are still a lot of us that dont want or care about multiplayer. we want the spidermans, the witchers, the horizon zero dawns, god of wars etc. seems like those are coming, hopefully they will be good... im sure obsidian is going to be doing some cool stuff and cant wait to see fable.

Its not supposed to be called "Suicide Squad", but it will be a Suicide Squad type game if you know what I mean. Like not with the same characters from the latest movie.

Other than this rumor, I had no idea that Rocksteady was going to have an announcement tomorrow. I guess they wanted to do a Superman game but DC said no, then they wanted to do a JL game, DC said no, so they settled on SS. A new Batman game following the Court of Owls is supposed to be coming too according to these same guys.

Ya I heard it was supposed to be called "Outlaws" or something. I guess Rocksteady is sticking with what they know, which is remaining in the Batman-verse. Kinda sad though since we had about 4 or 5 good Batman games in that universe and are kinda ready to move on and expand to bigger horizons. Well, at least I am.

And I heard Square-Enix booked Sony's old E3 time slot on Monday 6/10 at 6pm PST, so here's to hoping they showcase that new Avengers game finally.

With endgame coming maybe they finally show the game, but I don't think they've necessarily been saving it for that it just seems like it's been in work as we haven't heard anything in forever. I hope it's more comics and not MCU. It's an unpopular opinion but I don't like the MCU versions.

The Arkham verse is pretty cool I do like it.. I'd like to see the rest of the dc universe in it.

End Game came at a really bad time for me because I'm in the process of packing for a move and finishing a ton of renovation projects so I have zero spare time right now outside of work so I can't see it until I don't even know when. But on that same token I find myself not really caring that I can't see it and part of that is because I kind of have a feeling that I know exactly whats going to happen and I've kind of gotten tired of super hero stuff in general the last year or so.

So if this Avenger game isn't absolutely remarkable then I really won't' care about it one way or another, to be honest as I'm not really in need of even more Marvel content.

ya i can see that, its been a constant stream for so long it doesnt seem special anymore. im on the other side, DC has been feeding me lots of good animated content, its so good!! but im super starved for marvel stuff, spiderman just makes me want more good stuff and the dc animated movies and series are so good im like omg if only marvel could do something like this ,but all they care about is the mcu. i get it, its a cash cow,i know lots of people IRL who know NOTHING about comics or these characters but are super turnt for every bit of it they can consume because its so hot, its mainstream. but there is a lot of fans out here dying for traditional marvel stuff. lego marvel 1 was amazing, super traditional, lego marvel 2 was mcu-i-fied..i didnt like it at all. for people like me there has been hardly any marvel content in years.

as i get older i am starting to see there is a time when these companies have to make the decision to leave their old fans behind. we grew up with nintendo and they abandoned us with the wii, sony was happy to take the helm as we came of age and said hey guys, we are here for you, now they are the ones censoring games and acting all strange. star wars is ridiculous, marvel is terrible, disney destorys eveything they touch... its like the twilight zone.. i am starting to understand why my parents dont like hardly anything around the turn of the century on.

I was looking for a 3rd-person action platformer the other night and decided to give Rise of the Tomb Raider a spin. I've played it before but can't recall if it was on PS4 or X1 (OG). Either way, it looks fantastic on X1X(!) and I'm really enjoying it.

I was really surprised by how good it is but I think it has something to do with the level design. TR brought the series into the new gen with some new ideas, Rise of capitalized on all of that framework, and Shadow of tried to do too much.

I don't recall Shadow of the TR (which I also played on X1X) looking quite so nice but that's probably because it's overly complex in it's level design. Rise of isn't perfect but the first 2/3rds are so damn good. It gets a little murky after that.

If not for Game Pass I would never have tried this again. yes

Do you mean Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge? That was only exclusive for a few months. It was a launch game for Wii U in November 2012 but was ported to Xbox 360 and PS3 by April 2013. I'm surprised they didn't just make that one BC.

I use an Android app called Just Watch to do about the same (suspect they have an iOS version too), it's customizable to only show platforms you care about - example I don't show Apple platforms as I don't own their products/services. I like the app.

Platinum Games talking a little bit about why Scalebound was cancelled:

https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/microsoft...

"At the bare minimum, it's unique for us as a title in so much as we feel that we didn't do all of the things that we needed to do as a developer," he said. "There were a lot of painful lessons, but that helped us grow as a studio."

Goes along with what they said after its cancellation initially. Pretty much, Platinum bit off more than they could chew and couldn't make as big of a game that MS wanted.

While it is $50 cheaper than the "S", both consoles need a $50 price cut from retailers. When you can buy an X1X for $330 more from various online outlets or an "S" for $300 its a massive price failure from anyone trying to sell these at full MSPR. The All Digital needs to go down to $200 max and the "S" should not be anywhere near $300. Way over priced IMO

Or that could just result in a company wide group of B+ groups if they split up and combine their "A" and "B" teams. Platinum has always worked best when handling single projects, when they do multiple then they're very mediocre. Who knows though, I hope they prove me wrong and can make 2 classic Platinum games every year, that would be awesome.

I think it would be pretty expensive for the company if they had a new form factor for this while still making the "S" and the "X". They would be manufacturing 3 different consoles at the same time. What they should have done is take this opportunity to make a "super slim" X1S and have both the S and All Digital move to that one.

So all this talk of super fast SSDs and how it will unlock all these new gameplay features......what happens when you fill up the HDD? You can't really plug in an external because if those gameplay features are reliant and their new SSD tech (not available at retail) then how is that going to be handled? Also you won't be able to replace the internal any longer with this new SSD tech that brand new and required for some games. Its going to be strange if next gen they launch with 1tb SSDs and you can't upgrade them and try to push 8k gaming with that limited storage.
