Doesn't look like there's a discussion thread for PS4, unless I'm blind. Let's discuss PS4, then, in this thread.

Recent news: according to Kotaku, Gamestop is no longer taking preorders for the system. Hope you got your preorder in!

yes

I absolutely love GoT the books and the show but I could see why people would find it boring.

I can play FPS, but it's really got to be co-op. I've actually never played through Halo solo but I've co-oped the entire franchise twice. I wouldn't want to do it online either, this is couch co-op with a friend. Playing with randoms does not interest me at all.

i dont at all think its dumb that i dont like them because they dont follow proper lore. for old school fans thats every reason and a valid reason not to be into them. when your hardcore hobby goes mainstream it usually doesnt come out the other end as the same thing. mainstream ruins everything it touches, star wars is a great example... people who had no interest in any such thing in years past because "nerrrrrds hahaha" and now its trendy so they are all about being there on premiere night. same with the MCU.

if you dont watch at least the entire first two seasons of GoT you also dont really see whats actually going on, you get pieces, and there are multiple things going and they arent really coming together and then they start to, if you ever get the inclination to give it another go and can get that far it gets a lot more interesting, it is a slow starter in that first season, but the setup is important for everything else as is slow burn type stuff.

FPS is probably my least favorite genre of game but if anyone can make it work in a way that makes me interested its the holy prophets. i wish it was just the witcher in a sci fi world but im sure they wont put out something that isnt good and isnt ready.

I just realized Rage 2 comes out this month. And I have seen no coverage or advertising, or anything of that game. I wonder if that is a bad sign. I mean its out in less than two weeks (May 14th). And I haven't seen a single thing about it from any source. Its not like Bethesda to not over saturate their advertising. I wonder if its just them being caution because of how bad that online fallout got obliterated. Or if they have written the game off before its release because of bad feed back or something. I was looking forward to it, but now I'm nervous its going to be a train wreck.

IGN has had a ton of coverage over the past few weeks. They were doing special IGN exclusive interviews and gameplay previews, it seemed like a daily thing on the site. The gameplay looks like it's going to be fun with a lot of crazy weapons and some wild enemies.

I have had Rage on my shelf for several years. Never played it because of all the known bug issues. It just ended up sliding down the list of "play next" forever, even though I wanted to play it at some point.

I just can't imagine Rage 2 being bad after the footage i've seen. It looks really, really good. Hopefully it isn't a buggy mess at launch. I think that's the only thing I'd be nervous about if I was picking it up day 1.

Got Days Gone after reading what @TalonJedi87 and @Dasgessabel said about it, and I am really enjoying the game so far. I've played around 10 hours, and my only complaint is the frame dips. Definitely drops below 30 fps semi-regularly for me on a slim ps4. It feels like a mish-mash of Sons of Anarchy, Uncharted, Last of Us, The Walking Dead, and Far Cry.

Yeah, it's a solid mix of a bunch of other games and such, and it has an interesting narrative. The only technical issue I've experienced are some frame dips periodically (ps4 pro here) - Archer said they got worse in the last portion of the game, but I haven't gotten there yet. Cool to see more people enjoying it, as it got sort of a lukewarm reception from critics. Honestly may be the first longer game like this I will have finished in quite a while.

I just finished Days Gone. 7 out of 10 unfortunately. I've never played a game with such an up and down story. And it over stays its welcome by about 10-15 hours in my opinion. The end of the game suffers because of this I feel. Another one of those we don't know how to end this, and we had all these ideas so here they all are. If you're on the fence, wait for a sale. Weakest Sony game of this gen, and I really wanted it to be better because there is a lot I love about it. I had fun with it for the most part. And there is some strong story moments, just not enough consistency to make it a great game. I think the game could have been delayed another year for some polish and tightening up. It's too bad it wasn't. This feels like it could have been special. I also wonder if Bend was rushed to meet arbitrary deadlines, which seems to be the norm unfortunately these days. I really liked a few of characters, and they do a good job of making you hate some of them too. I just wish they stuck more too that instead of the direction they took it in the last 15 or so hours.

Edited to fix score, stupid fat fingers on my phone.

Ya that's a pretty fair score. That's the word I would use too "inconsistent" for Days Gone. It does feel all over the place and I'm only in the first act still. I think I said before the game feels like it has digital A.D.D. and can't sit still for a moment to follow a single story thread.

are the freaker nests in the infestation areas supposed to be marked? sometimes i'll roll into a zone and he will say something to the effect of gotta burn them all out, and sometimes they are marked and sometimes not, but i look all over and dont see them when they arent. i'll even select that "mission" in the stories tab and still not, but sometimes it does

I think you have to spot a nest first in order for it to appear on the map. They are kinda hard to spot at times. Ya just gotta keep running around within the red area until Deacon comments about spotting one close by. It's a little tedious because you have to do it each time you move onto a new area and cannot use fast travel to a nearby safe haven until a nest is cleared which blocks the route.

They only appear all at once if that part of the map is fully uncovered by you taking out the marauder camp and accessing their bunker map. Otherwise they will not all be marked, only the ones you come across by clearing the fog on your own as you approach it.

Yeah, if you hit those camps it will fully reveal the map of each area, and mark the nero locations, nests, and the white collectable location stone markers. As well as gas stations. I found myself driving around until he Decon said something about the ambush camp. And then took it out. Then drove around in the fog looking for the next.

860 days gone for me to finish the story. You start at 746 or something like that. No idea on actual time played. Maybe 50 hours? And then got plat tonight (super easy, only needed three trophies after finishing the game) at 864 days gone. I only mention this because after the story ends, there is some great character wrap up moments. Kind of like Red Dead. Story lines with side characters come to a close and you have some very nice interactions with some of them. But only if you continue to play and clear out hordes. They seem to be gated behind that. The more I did the more these little story bits started rolling in. Which you have to clear the hordes to fully level up to get a trophy. And at this point taking hordes is fun because you have an insane arsenal at your disposal.

ya when i saw that you actually get to take these hordes out later i was like whoa because early in game where im at you dont have the firepower or supplies. theres a spot where like a couple hundred of them come out of these rail cars and im like holy crap...(monty python and holy grail style run away!!) the hordes can be pretty impressively done at times.

Ya that's where I'm at now still in the preliminary phases of Days Gone. Just scavenging and running from hordes. I imagine the game gets quite fun once you stop running from them and start having an arsenal to tactically dispose of them as you see fit.

I haven't ran into a horde yet, but how are people on the regular PS4 faring FPS wise when you encounter one? I already get dips below 30 fps pretty consistently when I'm approaching a camp or a large group of zombies, so I'm a little worried about how it's going to perform when I get to a horde.

also, this made me bust out laughing: https://www.reddit.com/r/DaysGone/comments/blh4u2/...

For anybody experiencing FPS drops/texture pop-ins in Days Gone, there are two things you can do that have helped me immensely. 1 - don't play the game out of rest mode, make sure you fully close it when you're done. 2- rebuild your ps4 database. Hold the power button on your PS4 and start in safe mode and select rebuild database.
I'm not in the 2nd half that is supposed to cause the largest frame drops yet, but this virtually eliminated them on the regular PS4 for me and I just got to Iron Mike's camp. Encountered my first horde with no drop in performance.

Another thing I found after I had finished the game, is upgrading your engine on the bike causes massive frame drops. If you downgrade it to the default one or the one above it, it seems to be fine. But using the higher end ones ones that make you go fast, cause insane fps drops any time you come near a camp (enter or exit, or just drive by) or when it has to spawn freakers. Its bonkers. It can't handle the player moving a certain speed if it has to render crap.
