E3 is upon us once again and the rumor mill is once again churning. Anything you guys looking forward to seeing this year?

Also, who was the user who did that E3 betting thing last year? If there is enough interest it would be fun to do that again.

I guess as an RPGer and general Nintendo fan, this was a great E3 for me. Saw more of old games, and new stuff. FFVIIR, Ni no Kuni Switch, Witcher 3 Switch, Tales of Arise, Trails of Mana, Spyro on Switch, Dragon Ball action RPG, Panzer Dragoon Remake, saw more of Luigi's Mansion 3, Animal Crossing, Link's Awakening, BOTW Sequel. Just tons of stuff right up my alley.

This is a good one I completely forgot about. This was nearly a given for me within a year. I guess we got a few months yet.

Mine is that the games I want to play don't come out right now.

It's also stupid to do CGI trailer reveals and show no game play. Ultimate blue balls right there. But its pretty normal to not get game play.

I agree with this. Also, Nintendo 64 Classic.

I agree completely. I know the process takes a long time, but you're telling me they can't come up with like 30 seconds of gameplay footage. Nobody's asking it to be perfect. We just want to see it.

Showing game play can be a bit risky too because of the potential of possible downgrades. When you finally show what the game will really end up being and even if the smallest thing had to be downgraded, your game will be dragged through the mud all over the internet for weeks.

That's true. I forgot about how ridiculous and unreasonable the gaming community is. I take it back. Lol.

seriously show me game play. I mean I like Nintendo so I'd rather have honest non touched up game play that doesn't have to be "toned down" later. Astral Chain looks amazing, I don't know how it runs on Switch. And I appreciate the honest look at Witcher III on switch. You can tell it's downgraded, but it's still gonna look nice on a small screen.

Nintendo does their games differently, they focus on gameplay first, nail that, then with whatever extra power they have left over they use that to upgrade the graphics, so there really isn't ever downgrade with how they make their games. MS and Sony do it differently, their games seem to be graphics first since that's what their fanbase are focused on more.

Starfield was probably the worst CGI trailer. Literally did nothing but announce a game is being made called Starfield.

Duelshockers got to see the behind closed doors gameplay of Avengers are according to them the game is incredibly bland and generic. Could be why they only showed split second bits of gameplay mixed in with the CGI trailer.

I'll judge for myself once I see an extended gameplay segment. I don't really pay much attention to what game journalists think. They are all pretty useless as far as I'm concerned.

@ErickRPG I'm 100% all in on FFVII, it's in my top 3 games of all time so I'm super pumped about that. The DBZ game looks great but I couldn't figure out if it's an RPG or fighting game. Have they said definitively? I'd prefer the former. The 'for Switch' games that were already out for other systems don't do anything for me, but I'm glad they have an audience. Everyone should have access to them, even if it's a few years later. I used to be a Nintendo fan and I'm a big RPG fan, but they just don't cater to me anymore. I haven't owned non mobile Nintendo platform since the original Wii, and even that I barely enjoyed. To each his own though, glad you have some stuff you're looking forward to.

watching the treehouse for fire emblem, so sick. looks like there is so much more than we knew, the school is just the first part of the game and will shape future events and your side in the conflict to come... its definitely looking like a game thats going to take multiple playthroughs to see the paths of all "three houses". cant wait

what a next 18 months this is going to be, the swan song period of a generation often produces some a consoles best games, so much good stuff coming and then at the end of 20 we get new consoles... so ready to just hit this next 18 months like a mack truck and just get all into it.

This next 18 months might by the best time in jRPG history. That's saying a lot I know. But capped by a FF7 Remake. Tales finally jumping to PS4 quality, a Zelda game so great it deserves a direct sequel, Seiken Densetsu 3 finally being officially released. AND getting a beautiful 3D remake. A remake of a classic 2D Zelda. Fire Emblem getting better and better. SMTV. DQXI. Not to mention rightfully hyped western RPGs like CyberPunk 2077. And more good to great jRPGs I haven't even mentioned like Onninaki and Saga Scarlett.

Capcom has been damn near absent from E3 which kinda upsets me. I really wanted to see a RE3 Remake or Dino Crisis reboot announcement. I guess none of them are ready to be unveiled yet tho. Boo. 😥

definitely a golden age resurgance for rpgs, particularly japanese ones that i felt really fell off last gen overall. granblue fantasy re:link is one thats high on my radar as well that was absent from any e3 conferences but hopefully quite a few of these games will be at tokyo game show, including SMT5, it seems like atlus has had their hands full lately and we havent heard anything about it in awhile. happy to see so many good rpgs, ps1 and 2 era it just seemed like they came one after the other and last gen its not that there werent some good ones but not many that matched up to the ps2 stuff.

(zelda isnt an rpg lol)

FF7 Remake
Granblue Fantasy
Fire Emblem
Tales of Arise
SMT 5

That's my top 5 JRPGs in order for the rest of the gen. And yeah, I def don't count Zelda as a JRPG. Definitely an incredibly strong finish to the gen, but I think all 5 will need to be something truly special to dethrone my current top 3 of Nier, Persona 5, and DQXI.

That's mine as well I would bump something for p5r if it counts but if talking new games that's probably them. P5, NA and DQ11 are def easy picks for top 3 for me also...ff7 looks like a strong contender to bump one out if it keeps up though.

I'm not huge into RPGs, but the end of this gen definitely has a few good ones that I'm looking forward to. I think mine are:

DQ11
Grandia HD
Fire Emblem

Maybe SMT V and ToA but I need to see more on both of those before I make up my mind on them.

But in RPGs you kill enemies. You kill enemies in Zelda, therefore Zelda is an RPG.

Yeah but it's still a game RPGers can really enjoy. I just wanted to list all of the great RPGs and RPG like games. Yeah and I totally forgot Granblue which looks amazing. Which shows you how heavy that quality RPG list is. There is another RPG that looks great I forgot the name of. a 2D platforming action RPG with a female character. Looks amazing too.

I don't know if I'd call any other Zelda RPG, but Breath of the Wild certainly makes a strong case for one. It's certainly not traditional, turn-based RPG or anything, obviously, but it's got a lot of RPG elements.

The closest Zelda to being called an RPG is Zelda II: The Adventure of LInk to me but that's because it's so vastly different from the other Zelda games.
