1-Feb-2023(#2)I’m about 7 hours in for GoW Ragnarok and I think it finally clicked with me that I just don’t like the gameplay much. The first one I had fun because the story and the world was new but now I’m just not that interested in much beside the story, and I feel like just watching the story on YouTube.
Orlandu

2-Feb-2023(#3)You probably won't like it much more than you do now. You might try turning it to the easiest difficulty and completely skip all side-quests. That will make the game move much faster. You also eventually get an added layer to combat, but it's probably not enough to significantly alter your opinion of the game.

You know honestly I gave it another go last night and lowered the difficulty to just below default and started enjoying it a lot more. I’m fully invested again for now.
I don’t know what it is about this game, I’m generally pretty good at games, but I can’t get good at this combat system
Anxiouz

2-Feb-2023(#5)It's a big game and I had more fun when I lowered the difficulty. Just grinding away during battles got old after 15+ hours and when easier I enjoyed the faster progression.
MrBean

2-Feb-2023(#6)I enjoyed Ragnarok, beat it on Hard, with Plat ... but I'd kinda agree with @Shane12m.
Couldn't/can't quite put my finger on it, but it just didn't feel as fun/engaging as the first for some reason. Overall it was a absolutely a great game, but I found myself feeling that I was just grinding to get through it. I enjoyed the combat, didn't find it overly difficult until the very end of the game (two bosses stood out as very challenging). The amount of back tracking was a bit much, and in retro I should have waited to do it at the end vs. constantly doing it throughout. Still, I think it's absolutely worth the time.
Yet, I felt the same way about HFW as well. The first of each of these series was much better to me personally. Still, glad I played them, great experiences.
Orlandu

3-Feb-2023(#8)There's always an enemy behind you, too. Doesn't matter how you try to position your back to a wall, they will always spawn behind you. The tight third camera and a main character that moves like a tank sucks for this type of game.
kevolones

3-Feb-2023(#12)I played Ragnarok on Normal difficulty. I remember I played the first one on the hardest and it took away from the experience. I found Normal Difficulty to be perfectly balanced for a fun yet challenging playthrough. Plat is not tied to the difficulty either
Orlandu

3-Feb-2023(#13)@Archer You aren't missing much. Both sequels are a step down. Both are fine examples of more not necessarily being better.
longhornsk57

3-Feb-2023(#14)disagree on Horizeon FW. They expanded the story, kept the awesome gameplay and made a really good game. I liked it as much as the first one. Can't wait for the third installment.
Haven't played GoW R yet, but we'll see...
Orlandu

3-Feb-2023(#18)I got about 3-4 hours in and gave up on it. Not sure why, but moving around felt so clumsy (getting stuck on the environment, poor flow in general). Had to turn on all the accessibility stuff just to see what I could even grab. Elden Ring felt way better, which was surprising to me since From games tend to feel kind of stiff.
kevolones

4-Feb-2023(#22)It is basically more of the same in terms of gameplay. Just more story and little improvements here and there really. But, for me the first ones where amazing, and so are these.
Play it now if you already bought it.

I heard it a couple weeks ago, some kid maybe 10 or 11 years old at gamestop was calling Xbox gay because he was buying a PlayStation game.
Which is about the age group I associate with it being used as an insult (no offense intended to longhorn, just from my experiences in the early days of Xbox live)

13-Feb-2023(#39)I played through Rifted Apart a month ago and looking at it outside of the launch window shine, I had plenty of complaints. I didn't really have any bugs though, but found it super annoying how the game encourages exploration yet a lot of staircase looking things waist-high can't be jumped on. Jumping up to only slide down off it was constantly happening.
Orlandu

13-Feb-2023(#40)I bailed out of A Rift Apart after an hour or so. I've never played any of the other games in the series. To me it just seemed like a dull corridor shooter. Maybe I'm missing something.
Orlandu

13-Feb-2023(#42)Did the rift stuff ever turn into anything more than just instantaneous movement to different cover points? It seemed like it had a lot of potential.

14-Feb-2023(#44)I remember enjoying the Ratchet & Clank games, but I guess it was mostly on ps2. So, a long time ago. I haven't played Rift Apart. Looking at trophies, I played the ps4 Ratchet & Clank almost 6 years ago (but no other R&C is in my trophy list... strange, maybe I missed some). I want to play Rift Apart, but I'm hoping to get it cheap (or "free" via Extra). It's currently $70 in the ps store (lowest sale price was $30 last month).
From memory, the R&C games were light, highly-animated (mostly bolts flying all over the place) and colorful games. The weapons you acquire along the way had an enjoyable variety to them and the upgrades were satisfying too. That kept me motivated. I recall there were challenges and puzzles at times. Also, exploration aspects where I had to find secret passages to hidden items. The parts where you play Clank to sneak into small areas (not sure all games had this... one game was mostly Clank) helped vary what you were doing too. The story stuff was cartoonish and amusing. I liked that it wasn't strictly linear too, you could travel around to different areas to make progress.
But yeah, it has been a while. And, I'm sure not everyone would be into this sort of game. I think they are mostly highly-rated and sold well, though. I don't recall any being buggy, so it's disturbing to hear that Rift Apart is.
bonham2

14-Feb-2023(#45)I should start saving screen shots. I was playing one of the puzzle sections last night and I missed a jump. Clank landed on the side of the platform and got stuck on a metal rim, I tried to walk to my death, but he just started walking on air. Another time I was trying to get to a hard to reach area, was sliding on an invisible barrier in the sky and fell into a hole that was surrounded by invisible walls. After a few seconds of trying to get out, Ratchet started glitch jumping up into the sky. Those are some of the bad examples, but I have encountered at least one glitch every 5-10 minutes.
I have played every R&C game before, and while they aren't the pinnacle of 3D platforming, they have always been well made with fun and varied weapons. The weapons in this are way too similar and tired. Many of the old weapons have returned (RYNO, Buzz Blades, Glove of Doom, etc), and the new weapons are just variations of old weapons. Some of the older weapons were so much fun, like turning enemies into chickens.
The graphics are beautiful, and I guess I'm still enjoying enough to play to the end, but I'm just seriously disappointed after such glowing reviews. And I would have thought they would patch some of this stuff by now.

Main story is pretty short. After 2 full plays I was level 65. Cap is 50 but “ghost levels” continue with no stats. I hit cap before finishing first playthrough but I’m a completionist. Nothing is super difficult unless you’re on hard etc- then you need to cap.

So it sounds like you both like it when it is used like a regular button.
This reminds me of people talking about all the cool things that NFTs can be used for, pretty much all of which can just as easily be done (and in most cases have already been done for decades) without NFTs.
The touchpad is a feature that is far more expensive to include than a button, and is often implemented poorly in games that use it. The times people like it are when it functions the same as a button.

Technology changes fast. It may be less noticeable graphically (I'm sure ray-tracing is just a buzz word to most people), but locked 60fps is key. I always choose performance mode over fidelity if given the option.

Definitely the second one if that's an honest question.
It's an amazing game by its own right, but having that in there gives it a bit more realism than just buttons would, so it's that much more immersive. I guess you can try to play it and see..
Nothing about that game is "kinda clever/cute" - it's pretty hard core from beginning to end, and it feels like ND really fleshed out every part of the game, including those small aspects of guitar strumming which definitely add to the gameplay experience.

Tech does change fast, but I think the publics ability to consume it has started to slow. Rising cost are going to be a huge issue going forward. Not to mention that almost all of the tech in a PS5 (or most current gen consoles) is wasted if you don't have a great tv.

I am guessing the plan would be 4K native 60 with more RTX and possibly even better PSVR2 performance. An updated RDNA-3 or even RDNA-4 GPU would pair nicely in this endeavor if they do go Pro at some point. I doubt we'd see it for a few more years though since the PS5 is still selling so strongly and is still pretty good with framerates for the most part
Kommie

15-Mar-2023(#113)Ps5 pro is dumb. Developers would have to make games targeted at 4k 120 FPS, etc and what not and no ones gonna develop extra just for that. Cross platform devs certainly won't bother with higher res/framerate with the XsS
TalonJedi87

* 15-Mar-2023(#114)I’m in agreement with a PS5 Pro is unneeded right now and I would only get one with a juicy trade in deal. They should just make this console generation shorter then if they feel a need to keep up with advancements in hardware and come out with a PS6/Xbox Series Zenith in 2026-2027 then if that’s the case. Although from what I’m hearing more than a usual amount of PC games also available on console are running very poorly compared to their console counterparts so there may be a tide shift to focus dev kits on consoles as a primary VS PC development in the not too distant future which would only make sense for console devs to pump out another console sooner than later. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

I couldn't give a crap either way about CoD going exclusive either, don't play those games.
Also no they didn't. Minecraft was already on everything by the time it was bought. They bought it five months after it was released on all platforms. They bought it in September of 2014. The last system for it to release on was PS3 (at this point it was now on everything), which was in May of 2014. They didn't do anything to help spread it around. And every purchase after that was made exclusive instantly. Just like Sony has done. The only difference is Sony is not out there saying "we want you to have options, we want you to play this were you want". And then not letting that actually happen. Which is what I find the funny part. That people eat that crap up and believe it. When its not actually the case. What they really mean is, on your xbox or Microsoft PC.
Spencer was saying before they bought Zenimax that they wouldn't make those games exclusive. Then as soon as it was finalized they announced they would be exclusive. Not that it matters to me, I own both systems. More than happy to play the next ES or Fallout on Xbox. But its funny people give them a pass on this and just dog on Sony. When they are both crapty companies. Doing crapty things. And they both only give a crap about their own eco-systems. Yet one gets a pass for being more friendly and doing more to advance blah blah blah. When in actuality neither is doing anything great.
And of course he doesn't want to see that. They end up losing out. Just like Microsoft wouldn't want to see Sony with them. Because then they lose out. If you ran a business that made money off another business. And then your competitor comes along and puts and end to that. You'd be upset too. Microsoft would be doing the same thing if the roles were reversed. People act like these giant ass corporations are on their side. They don't give a crap about you. They just want your money. Which is why all the fanboy crap has always confused me. People act like the system they like more is some how superior ethically or some crap. Its almost like a cult mentality.
And the funniest part is people praising Spencer for making 10 year deals with Nintendo to bring CoD to Switch. Who the fudge is playing CoD on switch? And now they've made a 10 year deal with some mobile/cloud company in Japan so people can play CoD on their phones. In Japan. Come on. That isn't a jab? To a market that doesn't really play CoD. And the home of Sony. While its extremely funny, I'll admit. Its a bit odd people are using this to say "see it wont be exclusive".
So now that I've gotten my semi-annual fudge this industry rant out of the way. I think I'll go take a walk.

* 15-Mar-2023(#132)I don't care where Call of Duty goes, but I'm still bitter about Bethesda and would hate to see Blizzard stop making cross-platform games. Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI were going to be on all platforms before Microsoft bought out Bethesda, and I would much rather play them on my PS5 with haptic feedback and trophies. Also, the buyout probably means we won't see Fallout 4 or Elder Scrolls VI on PSVR2, which is really disappointing. If the Diablo games go exclusive to Microsoft as well, I'm going to be super annoyed, as that's one of my all-time favorite franchises.

Will people even be playing COD in ten years? I'd say that's a pretty generous offer. There's a good shot that Microsoft's Xbox won't even be a platform by then. To me that's just about as good as an indefinite agreement to not keep crap exclusive as you can get these days. It's more than Sony's ever given for their crap.
But you're right, it doesn't matter. The Mario Kart tablet's better than either console if you've got a PC and don't mind playing the older, cuter version of DeS and both Microsoft and Sony are looking to squeeze every drop of blood from the stones that they can. Frankly I was just looking forward to Bobby Kotick getting removed from his position, but something tells me that's not a guarantee either way. If it's approved, I hope things change, but if it's not, nothing will change. The latter has no positives to me. So I do still hope it goes through, but if it doesn't I guess we have more great crap to look forward to, like Warcraft 3 Reforged and Overwatch 2. Stealing breast milk from fridges (Blizzard just made their WFH employees start coming back to the office, fridges must finally be empty), that sorta good crap.

Kratos is a killing machine but then needs to be a nurturing parent. Not likely to go well, and Atreus fully represents that. Kratos being able to crush skulls but not deal with parenting is on brand.

Same to be honest... I was not expecting this month for some reason, I thought it came out in June. But I got the last copy, though it was open but it was still in mint so I just sucked it up and bought it. I may want to get another for collection purposes but I may get that one for Switch. I need to finish the Cowabunga collection first. 25-Apr(#173)I'm a little past that. It's a fantastic game. My only real complaint is that there are certain times when you can no longer backtrack, but it's not obvious that that is going to be the case. That's caught me off guard a few times where I made a wrong turn, started a cutscene, and then missed out on fetching some stuff on the map I was trying to get to.
The voice work is also terrible. I thought Alloy in Horizon had no personality, but she's the life of the party compared to Leon.
TalonJedi87

25-Apr(#175)I think so. On the PS5 at least. I just increased sensitivity on the camera and aiming to about 2/3 the way and it’s fine for me now.

25-Apr(#178)I didnt have an issue with the aiming. I felt it was solid enough but not super easy to get every headshot (which would make things very easy IMO). I believe RE2 and 3 remakes had the same type of drowsy aiming and it would make me make sure every bullet counted.

Don’t know about timing but Slim ps5 for sure at some point. 100% sure it’ll happen as the current system is basically a parts bin. Tons of opportunity for efficiency.
Pro seems to have solid rumors but I don’t see that any time soon. Games releasing at 30fps and/or buggy lately won’t be helped by hardware necessarily.

If I remember correctly, only Ether, some special skills (the hook shot, etc), and weapon traits unlocked carry over after dying. I think the least clear is the weapon stuff, I dont remember if it was called proficiency or what but the more you use a specific gun, the better traits you unlock for it. Theyre still randomized, but you get better versions of weapons overall. (Like the handgun having burst fire mode)
Feeb

* 9-May(#192)https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/returnal-what-do....
There are certain things that do carry over when you die in Returnal. Here's a list of what persists between runs in this game:
-Permanent equipment is kept once you've unlocked it. Examples include the Atropian Blade, the Hermetic Transmitter, and the Icarian Grapnel
-Permanent items are kept once you've acquired them. Examples include the House Key and the Crimson Key
-Ether carries over between runs
-Artefacts and items you've scanned or unlocked will show up randomly in subsequent runs
-Research progress on enemies, weapon traits, items, and artefacts is persistent
-Story/objective progress is persistent
After defeating a boss once, you don't have to fight it again (although you can if you like)
Basically only permanent upgrade / suit unlocks, boss kills and ether are kept. Once you get to a certain point the “launch point / restart level” changes so you do not have to complete the whole game in a single run.

10-May(#196)Official remote play app? There is a work around, last I tried.
Create a new profile on your Ps5.
Link that profile to the remote play app on PC.
Start the app on PC manually with your mouse.
Turn on your wireless PS5 controller, don't plug it in.
Select your actual main PS profile now.
Go to settings, language, change language from one and swap it back to US English to get rid of the remote play message at the top middle of the screen.
You should now be able to use it wireless with all the dualsense features and the touchpad as well.
Last time I did this it worked.

25-May(#224)PizzaTheHutt wrote:And I read it as:
Why is this digital only?
The existence of digital only consoles is empowering us to cheap out. While a digital version would have released anyway, doing this helps pad our bottom line. We'll claim to pass on savings by selling it at the lower end of a brand new game, while simultaneously killing off used sales- every copy sold goes through our monopolistic greed!
Also, we agree- buying a physical game that needs a day-one patch is a negative experience. So now we can bake the patch into the mandatory download- what's another 4 GB when you're already downloading 40? Sure, we could avoid that physical download requirement by properly QCing our game, but we already canned that team to save money.
TalonJedi87

25-May(#225)If these publishers allowed developers to have properly run QC departments I'm sure it would just give these cretins ammunition to drive up the cost another $10 per game copy 🙄
longhornsk57

25-May(#226)I don't know that i agree. Remedy puts out some amazing games and content and every one one of them I think is quality from the beginning. Alan Wake, Quantum Break, Control, were all great products.
They are also selling at $10 below what normal PS5/XSX games are retailing for. Don't get me wrong I'd still prefer disc but this whole like "they're just greedy" and "they're just lazy" narrative feels a bit reductive.
The whole "needs a download" reason definitely sounds like PR speak because you're making us download something anyways, but this isn't a publisher like Take-Two or Activision (MS) that can absorb any type of loss and i can understand them trying to maximize profit by eliminating costs for discs.
Having said that this probably does mean i won't be a day one purchase and I'll wait until it's on sale or GP to PS+ etc.

Yeah for sure. Remedy should probably move Alan Wake II. It's going to get buried otherwise and I'd hate to see it bomb.
And Baldur's Gate III comes out August 31st so those October games might as well not even exist to me because that's all I'll be playing in October.
TalonJedi87

23-Jun(#261)I hope a lot get delayed. I still have like 10-12 long games in my backlog to sift thru before I’m even allowing myself to buy a new game.

Yeah. I kinda wasn't going to get BG3 for a while bc of starfield. But if there is not even a physical version it's totally on the back burner. It's not like I don't have a crap ton of great games on my backlog. It's not like I'm totally against digital. I'm going to buy Mortal Kombat 1 day one on digital just because they always release a Komplete version later anyway. But I don't like it when companies say no physical period. In principle I don't support them.

6-Jul(#268)If digital games on console went on sale at the frequency and discount like it does on Steam I'd be more willing to buy digitally. But that's not happening
bill

6-Jul(#269)I feel like digital games on consoles often have good sales/discounts and perhaps are as good or better than Steam. Is there some way to compare them?
I use
https://www.dekudeals.com/ to track prices/sales, but it doesn't cover Steam.
Is there a way to track historical prices for games on Steam?
(deku has this for consoles, both digitcal and physical)
Kommie

6-Jul(#270)I'm not sure. But the Demons Souls remake took a good year to get any digital sale.
bill

6-Jul(#271)That's an unusual example because it's a ps5 exclusive, never on Steam.
https://www.dekudeals.com/items/demons-souls does show it dropped to $40 a year after release. $30 in Apr '23.
I'm playing it now via PS+ extra for "free"...
I wonder if Steam will eventually do some sort of game-pass like subscription thing. So far, I've been enjoying it. Though, I'm playing games "late" and things may be drying up as the year passes.

yeah. Gog and steam are really great with sales. I don't think I've bought more than 2% of my games day one full price. It's no comparison to how much better it is than consoles.
Kommie

6-Jul(#273)Right. I got no problem paying full price/release day discount on indie games $25 and lower. But no way I pay $70 for a digital "AAA" game with guaranteed problems.

https://steamdb.info/It doesn't send you notifications when games go on sale and if they are an all-time low, but I use this in combination for the Steam wishlist to determine if the current sale price is an all-time low since Steam's wishlist does send you an email when a game on your wishlist goes on sale.

6-Jul(#275)I've been so backlogged that I end up playing all my PS5 games for free anyways once they hit Plus or whatever it's called now. Or for a pretty deep discount.
This month having CoD Black Ops (awesome game with a great zombies mode) and Alan Wake is pretty dope.

PS+ keeps the saves for a handful of years, so just do that. As I'm not 100% sure you can do a usb transfer of a PS4 backup to a PS5 either. I know you can do the initial data transfer between systems. But I don't think it will read/handle the PS4 backup file. It could. But I'd just go with PS+. Just simpler. And you don't have to worry about formatting a USB device and only using it for your PS console.
EDIT: apparently PS+ only keeps the saves on their server for 6 months after an expired sub now. So that might not be a good idea either. I'd go with the usb device knowing that now.

Saves made on a PS4 work perfectly on a PS5 using a USB. I transfer them all the time. This is assuming you are playing the same PS4 game on the PS5 system. You can't use a PS4 save for a PS5 version of the same game unless there is an in game save transfer option available. There are allot of games with this option, but you will need to have access to the PS4 version as its almost always an in game upload/transfer.
Something to keep in mind in the future is PS5 games you can't backup the saves to USB, only the cloud. So once you get a PS5 you might want to consider having a subscription. I had one time the power went out while I was playing the PS5. For whatever reason it basically bricked the system. I found some workaround online to get it to boot into safemode. My only option was a factory reset. I was pretty bummed as I lost 2 game saves with hundreds of hours. Its the main reason I quit wreckfest. I had all the online cars unlocked and lost everything. The system is supposed to back them up automatically, but for some reason I had no PS5 saves online.

Its just to backup PS5 saves. You can still use USB for PS4 game saves on the PS5.

Sure looks like it based on who released the videos. Too bad, I'd like to have played Clock tower.

I don't mind LRG, but if the choice is a $15 digital download or a $40 physical, I'm almost always going to go digital.
If there was a bit closer parity in the price (like $30 vs $40) it would be a more difficult choice.
But for all those ErickRPGs out there who need their Olivia Newton John fix, I'm glad LRG exists.

SUPER hyped. Tomba as well! Problem is, they didn't show any gameplay. So who knows how far away it is. also, I'm half way through Gex Enter the Gecko on my PS1. They talked about a new "engine" so is it possible it's more than just a "remaster" and it has beefed up graphics and actual analog control? If so, man. I might just want to wait and play that instead.
As far as poorly aged jokes. If you watch the trailer again when he said "who were you expecting" it does NOT sound like a young Dana Gould. I think it's possible he voices the trilogy again with new jokes. That's just my speculation based on the sound of his voice in that trailer.

21-Jul(#307)They’d be dumb to do a PS5 Pro anytime soon. Plus I mean, what’s the point really? I feel that the hardware hasn’t changed much in the last 3 years. Unless it’ll promise all games locked at 60fps or something then that may be more attractive to me. They should just make a slim model and drop the price $50 on the standard model, since the current state of the PS5 console is a massive wifi router in itself.
