GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I bought this one to mess around, it's not ideal but it works "OK". At the very least, it enables you to play devices with AV on HDMI displays

Also annoying is that, every time the source gets disconnected(reset system, turn off system etc), I need to unplug and replug the HDMI cable, I wonder if that's a manufacture issue.

My grandma is selling her ancient garage-sized house in Queens for more than that, what a crazy place to live. I'm not a huge fan of the south but it's cheeeap to live here. Is there some place where people walk/talk fast enough, but is also really cheap to live?

I'd have to use my 26" which is older and a bit bigger my 24" doesn't have svideo hookup but the old one still works and looks fine. So improvement going from composite to s-video for saturn?

I haven't lived in Queens for years so I'm not privy to their market but there's plenty of real estate on Long Island for well under 600k. Even decent homes under 200k now.

I think it's pretty noticeable. The cord you got like has composite and svideo (lots of them do) so you can directly compare if you want.

Curious where you are referring to. The places I considered I looked at the prices and there's just no way it's that cheap.

Like I said I have no idea about Queens anymore but there seems to be more homes In the 200k and under rande out in Middle Suffolk County. Towns like Coram, Middle Island, Bellport, Mastic, Shirley stick out. Not the greatest but they're improving for sure. Patchougue is constantly listed as an "up and coming " neighborhood but the prices are slowly rising in response.

Ah, I was looking to stay closer to the city and Queens. And when we do move(probably in 2-4 years), the main thing we would be looking at is school district.

I have updated OP so far with @Antipop, @DefaultGen and @sharif's game rooms. I think there are some other pics peppered throughout the thread so I won't be looking for them but if you want to share(and I think you should! untidy or tidy doesn't matter!), send me a PM to put your pics in the OP.

If you're like me, I just love to see what other people have and how they set it up.

It may not be much compared to everyone else's rooms up there, but I am pretty damn proud of this setup. Took systems pic a few weeks ago after refurbishing the stereo equalizer under the TV and moving the 3DO and PCE to fit everything. Only other change of note since I posted this last year is that the Wii U is gone, the PS4 replaced it, and we added a Vita and Vita TV.. we got s little Sony Fever late into 2016... The open cube space along the bottom now has a basket to hide the power strip/extension cables in that spot, now, too. Thank goodness my wife is in on all of this and helps keep it in check. This is our living room in a 1 bedroom apartment, so it needs to be presentable and a little less blatant that it's a game room. Someday we'll have a separate space for this so we can go nuts, but for now, it's a bit reserved.

Our downsizing shows with the shelving, but honestly, I'm pretty pleased with it and the imports look nice. Loose hucards are in the old Pokemon deck box.

Still cool! my wife (and me to a somewhat lesser extent) has an on/off fascination with CED and LD. Because of space, we have our players stored away for now, but have a modest little collection of laserdiscs and CED discs, too. They still look pretty good, though. Well, not the CED ones, lol.

CED is atrocious lol. You will never mistake an LD for a BD but they still look damn good with the right equipment.

I see you got your shelves from walmart too. Not going to show off much of my room, since i'm still working on it(i'm in the process of converting my garage turned storage room into a game room, but it's proving more difficult than i thought), but here's part of my collection:

Yeah, those media shelves from Walmart do the trick perfectly. I work at Target and we don't carry anything that works as well unfortunately.

Just making sure everyone knows, a physical copy of Wild Guns: Reloaded on the PS4 is available right now on Play-Asia and Groupon. I ordered mine today, but who knows how long they'll last. Click here for the Play-Asia link. The box art is worth it alone, in my opinion:

For the VGA cable, why buy from China? On eBay?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...

Just use Amazon affiliate link at top of page and search "Dreamcast VGA", it's the third (cheapest) option, free Prime ship. raspberry

No I'm pretty sure @creagan is right, it's just one game. I was really disappointed as well.

Seven-Disc Special Music Album

Disc 1: Darius (Arcade Version, Game Boy Version)
Disc 2: Darius II (Arcade Version)
Disc 3: Darius Gaiden (Arcade Version)
Disc 4: G Darius (Arcade Version)
Disc 5: Darius Twin (Domestic Version, Overseas Version)
Disc 6: Darius Force, Sagaia (Consumer Version / Overseas Version Darius II)
Disc 7: Mobile Version Darius, New Arrange Music, etc.

Original Darius for the First-Time as a Disc-Based Package

The first time the original Darius is released on disc for a home game console, realized thanks to the help of Hamster, who manage the Arcade Archives game download service. This is the Arcade Archives version of Darius with the cabinet instructions panel display added to create a more arcade-like atmosphere.

Interview Booklet and Super Play Blu-ray Disc

The interview booklet contains 32 pages of interviews with Darius series staff. The Blu-ray disc contains super play videos of the PlayStation 4 version of Darius, as well as the arcade versions of Darius Gaiden and G Darius.

I'm so glad that DS was localized and released physically because well shmups almost always get cheap here before they go up. For quite awhile it was $2.99 at Gamestop (for the standard edition) and that's when I bought it.

I'll post some comparison videos. I can't natively hook up AV to my monitor so I'll test both with my Samsung 32" LCD.

I also nabbed a nifty device DVDO VP20 from @Gypsy, so will post differences of that when I get it and have it tested.

I am hoping it will play nicely(though I don't think it will) with capture devices like Elgato HD.

If your display has component inputs you can get one of those $50 SCART-to-Component boxes on Ebay and a $5 Genesis SCART cable on AliExpress. That would be the low budget RGB option. Shining in the Darkness is yes

It certainly is a lot easier when you can just plug everything into the tv. Now I get to make my own cord (fun and not being sarcastic) to have RGB on my HD CRT. Long term plan is buying an OSSC next batch and eventually a VP50Pro and I'll have two separate set-ups for different games.

Oh and despite all my rambling and focus on this stuff, I do actually play games (lol).

yeah I mean it's Falcom so it's great! Glad they are still making RPGs.

Does anyone play full RPGs through emulation? Or are you adamant about "owning" something physical. Does it feel better to play legit? I ask this bc I am mulling over my SNES/gen/and Sega CD portions of my collections. Well at least as I begin to dive into them. I remember I beat Shining Force II completely on my ipod touch. And when I finally got my SNES in I am just not feeling the same whatever magic feeling above just playing on a little phone. It's not like I'm losing interest in games, I still really dig Breath of Fire on gba, Skies of Arcadia on DC, and Super Mario 64 on N64 all of which I'm playing now.

Maybe I'm slightly burnt out and it's just the 16 bit stuff is the first to suffer for it. I dunno so I thought I'd ask what people thought about playing a legit SNES RPG on the system vs playing on a tiny screen portable emulating it.

I get more enjoyment playing the real thing. It's a combination of not having a menu full of 1,000 games that makes me want to swap games every 6 minutes and probably appreciating the game more because I paid money to play it. No temptation to alt-tab and do something else or multitask or use save states/increase speed to cheat.

Yeah I mean those old jrpgs are often long and whackamole npc to figure out where to go, it can be easy to burn out on them. I find that I will go through spurts where I play a few jrpgs in a row but then none for awhile.

I don't really emulate so I can't speak to that. A friend of mine does a lot of emulating and never finishing games. Idk if that's a common problem or what, maybe for some people having access to all games creates a situation where it's hard to decide and/or stick on one game.

Edit

I might just have to collect only the very tippy top games on SNES. It might be a matter of Mystic Quest just isn't a good game. But those first few hours of my nostalgia for the game were. Rebuying these games I'm finding out what actually is a good game.

Also I think I'm a handheld gamer. As I own handheld versions of many games like Breath of Fire, Zelda, and love em. I wish more SNES RPGS got ported to GBA officially.

also part of it was in the 16 bit days I was so desperate for RPGs that I would be excited just for a new RPG. But those same games today because I have so many actual gem of RPGs I need to play, I'm probably wasting my time even having them on my want list.

The funny thing about Keio being that price is you can import a Euro or JP system and get the corresponding version of the game for way less.

You can get a Wondermega + Sega Mega CD Keio for less than Sega CD Keio!

Aside: Wondermega was probably the most expensive system I've bought.

Thanks for the recommendations on the Genesis collection again, guys. I think once I'm done playing the GC stuff I want to (there are only a handful of exclusives I'm interested in), I'm going to give it a shot.

Any games in particular you think I should keep an eye out? Like, what are your top 5 Genesis exclusives?

Beyond Oasis
Phantasy Star IV
Shining Force 1&2(SRPG, you might not like this)
Sonic 1-3 & Knuckles
Contra Hard Corps
Castlevania Bloodlines

Too bad you sold your PS3, the Ultimate Sonic's Collection has a handful of these.

There are a lot of pricey and fair priced shmups if you like those

I second all those except Phantasy Star IV, but I am a PS hater apparently so if you really like 16bit jrpgs then odds are you will like it.

Also the Genesis still has the cheapest version of some games from that gen. Especially when compared to PCE but also SNES.

Awesome cheap stuff that people don't recommend enough: Sub-Terrania, Blaster Master 2, Lotus II, Toejam and Earl 2, Super Monaco GP. I don't know crap about Genesis though besides the popular stuff you see everwhere, I just grew up playing most of those.

Sega Genesis survival horror recs
Haunting Starring Polterguy (not really but it's a funny take on horrer and good classic game)
Splatterhouse 3 (another classic and also a platformer)

Sega Genesis platformer recs
Shadow Dancer and Shinobi III (both great shinobi platformers)
Streets of Rage (1, 2, and 3, all great beat em ups)
Comix Zone (one of the last genesis games, beautiful and very fun)
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (I think this is is a gem)
Monster Boy in Wonderland (good platformer with rpg elements)

Sega Genesis RPG recs
Phantasy Star IV (is a must, trust me, and everybody)
Pier Solar (def a great game paying homage to 16 bit rpg and will tickle the nostalgia bone)
Sorcerer's Kingdom (lesser known RPG on gen and a favorite of mine)
Buck Rogers (also a personal favorite of mine)

Genesis had more RPGs than people realize. Not as many epics but some good worth playing average RPGs.

I have both fear effect games available on ps1 complete, discs are close to VG and manuals have some imperfections, no tears or stains. Can replace cases. If you want to add to mine.

Speaking of replacing cases.. anyone find a good way to get new middles for those multi disc ps1 games? Any cd of course caN make a new front and back but when the middle section has a spot for a disc you come across so many broken teeth in them.

I bit the bullet and picked up Atomic Runner for $50 on eBay. Hadn't seen a decent looking complete copy in ages and figured I'd better snag it before someone else did and tried putting it back up at $90 or something ridiculous.

It's got writing on the label but I'm going to VERY gently attempt to remove it.

I figured that'd be the easiest one.

@Hirolunet Will do, I should be able to get them tested tomorrow. I have already opened them up and confirmed authenticity. The other 2 games I need to test (UN Squadron and Turtles 4) I'm keeping. I got a great deal from a pawn shop on the lot, partially because I saw the deal he got on the lot and more. (He paid $20 for them all, with 6 N64 games, 3 PS2 games, and a couple of DVDs. I paid more than that for the SNES lot, but we both knew I was still getting a steal.)

I need to find a small TV with svideo so I can buy those cheap s video cables for snes, genesis, saturn, and so forth!

Is there a way to use the system s-video cables and use some sort of adaptor to still get the increased pq? The people who make the component snes cables linked me to this.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/142219827897

It looks like it adds 2 more rca to svideo making me wonder if it turns it into a "component" connection? However they said something like you'd get a black and white picture. None of my TVs have s video. So I'm just looking for the cheapest option that still works. For saturn, snes, and genesis. I bought that VGA cable for my dreamcast. If I could track down a small LCD that had s video connection I'd do it, but I don't think they do any more. Trinitrons are too heavy for the stand in my bedroom.

I felt some pain when I agreed to sell my 3 pristine GBA castlevanias but I got good value for them.

So I have an agreement to pick up that TV I mentioned earlier. I can't wait to see what my SNES, Genesis, and Saturn look like on it once I get s-video cables for them. I also have the dreamcast VGA cable on it's way and I can use THAT with my current TV. I gotta head to Fry's to get an additional adapter for the audio to work though.

It looks like the small TV I am getting was originally a $1000 TV (one of the reviews mentioned), the PQ should be really really good for these old games! I'll post some videos of game play and impressions later.

The retail of the processor I am sending to @Lunar was $2000. WHAT A BARGAIN NOW. Lol...

Also one of the Sony HD CRTs I have is in such good shape and complete that it had the manual, stand and everything and tucked away in the manual was an old receipt for $2399...

Sony definitely made some good tvs though.

That TV is exactly what I'm looking for. I need VGA hookup, S video, component, the more systems I can plug in at the same time without a box the better. Plus the guy said wife barely used it before she wanted to upgrade. They live on the nice side of Chicago so, yeah.

Anyway I know it's not CRT but I just can not have one due to size and weight. So this is the perfect alternative to me. I have a 4K camera so I'll def take some nice youtube videos of systems hooked up with svideo and component for you all.

Retail on that was $1400. I read some reviews. Appears to be above average, blacks not great but it's an LCD so that is to be expected.

Did somebody say inputs? This is the back of the tv I picked up most recently: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2004/158... I couldn't have lifted it myself though, too awkward due to the size plus it's 200 pounds. I need to calibrate it but I'm lazy.

I miss when TVs had tons of hook ups. AV receivers I know but I'm not hooking a damn 25" TV to one. I'll bet the blacks are way better than the samsung LCD I have now, so It's gonna be a huge upgrade bedroom TV for old systems for sure.

yes Yeah lots of inputs is nice. On my LCD I route everything through my processor and I still need a switch for more ypbpr inputs. -_-

If you are currently using a low end LCD (if you mentioned it previously I don't remember) then that's definitely going to be a step up. Were you able to talk them down from $40? I find most people just want stuff gone, I got the XBR800 that I'm currently using still for free.

I went with another guy who has the remote and is closer. But $50, it's such a nice TV I don't care about talking down. I have a samsung 26b460 which also got good ratings but it doesn't have s video. And I don't think it was ever in that price range. It was probably a $300 TV. Being able to get cheap s video cables for snes, genesis, and saturn and buying a decent quality TV for that was my main goal.

Oh yeah, you should notice a difference.

Reviews are likely to not even mention handling of 240p or 480i/p content now or even back a few years. Edit: Certainly never mentioning 240p, maybe a few years back would mention 480p maaaaaybe.

I'm debating getting a Duo R soooo...

Interest check: Briefcase set-up. IFU is RGB modded and has the lid removed. CDROM2 works well. White PCE has been fixed up so you won't get jailbars. System card 3.0 (plays all but arcade cds). 1 generic power supply, 1 official controller (a good Japanese model with turbo switches). I can include a double male sided composite cable but I would need all the RGB related cables for the Duo R.

I tried the Sega Dreamcast VGA cables just now on Skies of Arcadia. It's easy to see the difference. You know I just don't mind lower res on these older games, especially if it's a smaller LCD. What really bothers me if it's a very noticeable visual defect like that terrible effect in Secret of the Stars. One thing I don't like about S video and VGA connections is it takes away picture options like color, black level, and dynamic contrast.

I'm not going to argue that composite is better, because it's not. And I understand that. It just really doesn't bother me on such a small screen. With the older TV I got coming in I'm hopeful I will see significant improvements handling the lower resolutions as Gypsy said. IF I still see that effect on Secret of the Stars, then I will order an SNES S video cable. If not I just plan to play all my systems el natural.

Overall I def recommend Dreamcast VGA cables. But for me It makes no difference to my enjoyment of the game.

You need a VGA box to fully take advantage of the cable. I haven't play extensively with this thing but I heard good things. I'll drag out my dreamcast and post some videos.

Yeah, I let a bundle with a couple Zelda games go on eBay for $185 right before Christmas, apparently that was a huge mistake. I didn't think Nintendo was going to quit fudging making video game fudging machines since it's their fudging job. I guess their budget was reduced to about fifteen bucks right before November. Sorry, I'm still super salty at Nintendo.

I think they're stealth discontinuing it. Most of us knew they were full of it. The Switch is clearly designed to replace both consoles. These will skyrocket (just like the Wii U ridiculously holding its value) for a few months, maybe a year, and then no one will care anymore, and you'll be able to find both on the cheap.

Resellers will hold on for dear life to the inflated prices though, so now's a good time to sell your system if you're not getting much use out of it. I just spent $170 (for my brother, not me) for an N3DS XL with charger. I bought the same thing for less than $140 a year ago. Nintendo is abandoning their 8th gen consoles for the 8.5s.

Considering there's still 3DS software supposedly slated for release this year and all the heavy hitters that just came out last year, one would HOPE that Nintendo didn't simply pull the plug prematurely.

I think they just fudging suck at making hardware now for some reason. No NESes, no 3DSes, "No way are we discontinuing Wii U! Okay, we're discontinuing Wii U."... Either that or the scalping community went full retard and just dumped all their money into Nintendo hardware in the hopes that they could spin a quick, tidy return by starving the market of all B&M stock.

I still say I prefer time-limited pre-order sales as opposed to limited quantities. Say, you can only order for this day, and that's it. After that day, no more orders. Then make a few extra thousands for release day that will also sell out quickly along with any canceled pre-orders, and boom. You sold a ton, and people can be butthurt all they want, but at least they had a shot.

You're also still creating a secondary market, but again, at least everyone had a shot.

Like, I don't understand why they don't do that sort of thing. "Pre-order periods are 1-22 to 1-27; pay for the product up front, all orders made will be filled." Bam. Release stock in stores, scalper market dies, Nintendo makes lots of money, Nintendo doesn't look like a bunch of incompetent fudgesacks. It's not that hard to grasp.

Yep. You can thank Nintendo, you can't buy their stuff in stores because they don't know how to stock and scalpers know they can triple their initial investments with zero effort as long as it's Nintendo hardware and they can afford to buy it out. Nintendo may as well sell to eBay direct at the same prices.

Lots of people need instant gratification and don't mind paying out the ass to get it, so the market is sustained. yes Cool company.

I think Saturn games are finally coming down a bit. Bc I've bought some and also waited on a few on my want list. If you look at price charting you can see the arrow coming down a bit.

I just won Shining Force III complete and apparently excellent condition no scratches for $139 including shipping. Expected it to go for at least $165, possibly even over $175. The game used to easily sell for $200+ for Like New copies.

That's a good deal for SFIII. I think its the risky nature of auctions. Some ends higher than market, some below. Just the way it is.

true but that is lower than I ever expected. I think part of it is people are broke in January, and also maybe there is a slight downward curve in Saturn prices. That's my thoughts anyway.

Yeah that's pretty great. I've been looking for a manual to complete my copy for awhile now. Got the disc from Rune iirc and oddly enough won just the back insert (along with an extra Iron Storm back insert if anyone here need that I wouldn't want much more than shipping) for pretty cheap on Ebay.

And I agree with @Lunar you always run a risk when you run an auction. With patience I have won items for $10 or less that sold for $50+ on either side of it in the sold listings.

I certainly wouldn't complain if Saturn and Sega CD started going back down to more sane levels though.

Seems pricey to me. Should be able to get a 24'' LCD for 120 on a sale, 150 normally, but if the monitor's really good it might be worth. I think my 144hz monitor cost me around $200, which is why I was surprised to see one that doesn't overclock much over 60hz was nearly the same price...

You guys remember those threads on here about the Gamestop certificates on Ebay? Well a friend of mine had his account hacked shortly after getting over 50k points. He got the email about redemption this morning around 7am. When he went into a Gamestop to see what was up the certificate(s) had already been used! They are going to check what PUR card was used on the redemption allegedly.

Oh ya, bought a few of those certs and really hated feeling like a thief. So spent them on random games and things, just wanted to be done with them.

As for the hack, that sucks. I am sitting with like 300K points, the next time they have something decent, I'd probably cash out.

I've been waiting for a massive restock of NES classics, hoping to grab one.

Well, roommate's car died, bad time for me to buy a $300 phone. I wanna help him replace the battery, so I'm putting up 13 Sega Genesis games for sale on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/152387337025?

Anyone in this thread (US) who wants to buy from this site, I'm lowering the price to $210 shipped, and I'll take it down. Basically want to clear $200 and have shipping covered. I will also throw in a boxed copy of Shinobi for Sega Master System (that I haven't tested yet since I have no way to, but I'm sure it's fine). Fudge it, I'll throw in a boxed copy of Sword of Vermillion, too. Contacts were scratched on that, but I cleaned it with alcohol and a Q-tip and it fired right up. The rest of these are in great working condition.

So Lunar or someone mentioned a disc scratch removal service that made the games look mint new again. I have a few discs I'd like to do that with. I always though based on my experience, that once even a micro scratch appears you are screwed. Because wiping even with a proper cloth leaves this micro streaks or scratches that never come out.

Who does this service and how much is it? I want to give it a try.

glad you like it. I would suggest following a guide, I followed one on gfaqs just to make sure I didn't miss the hidden sidequests and other odds and ends. Sure beats running around campus and re talking to EVERY character EVERY single sub chapter.

I didn't plat it just didn't want to miss important stuff. Who you spend time with effects some minor scenes in the sequel, nothing more. I personally couldn't imagine playing any game twice, too many other unique games with so many flavors to play.

Yeah I don't frequently play JRPGs twice that's why I had to ask about the ending thing. For example with Summon Night 5 I knew that had multiple endings so I made sure to get the ending I wanted because I wasn't gonna play that text dump twice.

I don't think I'll miss anything important without a guide.

Just gotta be patient on Ebay. There was a mint complete copy of secret of mana (that met my standards) that I looked at that went for $99. Now there is a mint box and papers (but no cart) currently bid up to $125. Some people think "this is the last mint copy that I'll ever see". lol.

All the collectards are hoarding. If the market ever crashes again, they'll panic and cash out just like they did before. On the bright side, with de-regulation and all the financial reforms not passing house and senate, everyone's PRETTY much back to doing precisely what they were doing before the bubble burst, so give it a few more years and things might get bearish again soon. Long as it's packed properly there's nothing to worry about; CRTs are often flipped around and sideways and they handle travel pretty well; LCDs are more prone to failures and problems in transit.

A big advantage for IFU set-ups is everything being modular, so it's easier to replace something if need be. Also really easy to get parts for and fix a CDROM2.

I finally bought the last system on my -need to buy- list. Sega CD boxed in nice shape for $150. I have a Genesis to hook to it too, I tested it when I got Phantasy Star IV in, and my copy of Dark Wizard so yay I can test it out!

I now own all the boxed systems that have meant something to me in my gaming life. (well I did let go of my Intellivision collection.

So ok everyone help me set up my new gaming station. Gonna switch from a 26" to a 32" using composite switchers, vga boxes, etc. .

So my first concern is, I heard back from the makers of the SNES component cables about my video issue. He said it was Y/C separation. Would sending the SNES through this upconverter solve that?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&lo...

Also, I see numerous VGA boxes for Sega Dreamcast, which one is the best? I already have the VGA cables so now I need a box.

So my main goals are having maybe switcher for up to 4 composite or component (would be nice to have 2 of both if possible. Cleaning up old gen composite videos with an HDMI box, and VGA for the DC. I'll probably pick out a nice Vizio or Samsung. With the switcher, I won't need to worry about it only having 1 component connection. Also would be nice to send everything out to a soundbar or something like my Logitech THX 2.1 computer speakers. Need help there.

Y/C separation is just something that happens with composite video. You can get an external processor, but cheap ones might not even be better than your tv.

If you want to read more: http://www.extron.com/company/article.aspx?id=ntsc...

TL;DR: Just get better cables, composite sucks.

Also jmo but the converter linked to probably isn't any better than the one Lunar bought for $18. So if you do go that route, that's something to keep in mind.

So is it possible some TVs might handle Y/C separation better? Is it possible those converters COULD improve it? Or is my only choice to wait until summer and buy a $75 component cable for my SNES from those retrofit guys?

Well that review just told me the TV's component is better, and S-video wasn't worth it. So now back to square one trying to eek out image quality.

I am planning on setting up a new game space with a nice 40" Sony TV, and I want to be able to hook up about 5-6 systems at once. Can any of those switchers handle BOTH component and composite at the same time?

Yeah so maybe I'll make sure to try that game if/when I bring home a new Sony. They did mention in the blog it will be with upgraded parts and more expensive but did not mention by how much.

I guess the main thing I need to get is a good switcher and the best dreamcast VGA box. I'm thinking of getting this Sony from last year 43" which was rated pretty well. Cross my fingers at low res handling.

I have every system in my signature. Upstairs I can hook up 2-3 at a time (but shelf only leaves room for 2). Would love to be able to have about 4-5 hooked up downstairs. Say an Super Nintendo, Sega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and Microsoft Xbox 360 all at once. If I can have 3 upstairs and 4-5 downstairs I won't have to keep taking systems out of boxes.

Downstairs I might er toward newer systems like PS2, and 360. But def want to see if it handles Y/C separation better.

You could get Genesis, SNES and Saturn scart cables, a scart switch, a scart to yuv box and an rgb interface + vga bnc breakout cable and plug all those systems into an rgbhv matrix. Probably looking at about $160 there though.

I'm actually looking to get a scart to yuv box and an extron matrix pretty soon in which case I'd be able to confirm workability. I'm fairly confident those matrices will take component though.

I hate to break up a magic convo but I ended up getting the 40" Sony W650D. I didn't want to overpay for 4k that I won't use. I think it's about the best option in that price range. Early testing Dreamcast with composite looks really nice. Which is why I'm surprised by the jaggies with PS2 on component. So far my opinions are pretty positive with the picture quality. Will DEF need SNES component for this TV. Trust me you don't want to see it.

I'll prob end up using this TV to have new'ish stuff hooked up and the bedroom TV for older stuff. Might try Saturn on this TV out of Morbid curiosity.

$37.99. But I bought a play n charge kit and that works. So must be something wrong with the little battery pack that clips on. It had some white crusty stuff against the hard to reach corners of the outside of it. Maybe leaving batteries in it wasn't a good idea. But my controller works with a new play n charge kit so I don't have to buy one now.

Tempting to make a joke here but that's just corrosion. I recommend unplugging batteries/battery packs when not in use. Well, anything with AA/AAA anyway, lithium stuff is fine of course.

Monoprice is pretty bad quality for anything other than cables. I tried to use a couple of their switch products and they quit working quickly. They sent a replacement that also didn't work so I just gave up on them for that. I would recommend a good brand like Audio Authority or Extron if possible.

Wow it's hard to find a switch box that can handle both component and composite. Thought there would be more to chose from. If I have to spend that much I might as well upgrade to the better sony that at least has 2 components and 2 HDMI. This one only has 3 total inputs.

I pointed this out on another forum recently and figured I'd mention it here for any Ys fans that might not know. In the PS2 version of YS VI you can enter a "cheat mode" when starting a new game. You can use this to enable "Japanese PC mode" which sets the audio to Japanese and replaces the rubbish CG with gorgeous anime cutscenes.

does PS2 output in 480i in component mode? I've tried a few games and the pixels just look a bit fuzzy. Seems like it should look clearer than dreamcast composite. Maybe it's the cheap cables I bought? This is stressful.

I feel like PS2 looked pretty great with the AV to HDMI converter.

So, there is a little issue with audio on the DVDO VP20 we didn't anticipate, but a $8 converter box should solve this problem.

Even though with no sound, I recorded a video with composite through VP20. I feel like it's less blurry(not so much with the FMV, those were blurry to begin with, but the in game graphics are noticeably smoother), though I will need to try regular AV without the processor to compare.

Yeah I never realized it because I was using optical audio. Apparently it's a known issue with the way the unit encodes the audio over HDMI that causes issues with a fair chunk of hdtvs.

Just wait until you are getting RGB out of Saturn. It is glorious.

I don't have much experience with the unit using composite or even svideo tbh. Only thing I used Svideo for was a VCR (cue jokes).

So I tried my XBOX with component on my W650 and much much better. I think I have to buy a new PS2 component cable. I might upgrade to the slightly larger 4K Sony, it has many more inputs and no need to worry about switch boxes.

Oh yeah, it was the only way I played it on the PS2. I actually got through a large portion of that on PC shortly after it was released, was a big reason I got into the Ys series in the first place.

You guys are talking about Napishtim PS2 right? That's an awesome ys.

Hey Lunar thanks for the link, that should work better than the cheap generic ones right? Man I am really fickle when it comes to new purchases, I really am. I go back and forth seriously thinking about bringing this TV back because it has 3 inputs not 4.

I was just linking to a multi system component, so you just need 1 cable for 3 systems(assuming you use a Nintendo GameCube) I honestly don't think brand makes much a difference when it comes to third party. Though I could be wrong.

It's cheap enough to just try out though.

too bad the cable is not long enough to reach all systems. I'm just gonna get the x800d. It's 4K so it's a better long term investment as I can eventually hook 4K systems to it.

It likely has nothing to do with the cable. I have Sony and various offbrands of PS2 YPbPr and it's all essentially the same. The Xbox is just MUCH better designed for HD gaming and many of the games output to 720p.

Right on I believe VI was my first time with the series as well, but it's been awhile.

Apparently, El Gato bypassed the audio problem. I can actually capture(with sound!)

Didn't know those annoying HUD were there. wry smile
