new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Oh, that's good to know. I'm gonna ask about some work I need done on my Japanese PS2. Hopefully it's not too much.

Also, I like Bookoff on 49th & 6th if you're ever in that area. I like to browse CDs and Books(they have a Japanese section). It used to be that their gaming selection was decent but I think they hired a douche bag to manage their gaming section because their prices is ridiculous now(like Skies of Arcadia Legends for $150 or something)

I like bookoff too, but you're right, their prices got insane, like all of a sudden. They're good for random cheap imports, that are basically blind buys. Spend $10 on a random SS import because it's got an insane cover and see what you get ...

I went there the last time I was in NY and it was overpriced af.

If there's a barcade on St. Mark's I'm for sure going there whenever I get back to NYC.

Yeah this is pretty much how it works. Have good prices and get ravaged/never keep anything in (esp somewhere like NY) or have insane prices and have a great selection (and occasionally sell crap but mostly sell new releases and bargain bin older games).

Not keeping anything great in is a bit dangerous, because then a lot of walk-in customers won't think you have a good selection.

7+ years ago before the old game pricing boom, a store near me was pretty much out in front of it and the ideas behind it. $12 games on eBay for $70 in store. I was basically, politely told to eff off by an employee when I tried to haggle there so that was the last time I went in there. Before that though I had talked to the owner a fair bit and he was saying that most purchases are going to be $10 or less anyway, so only have the complete garbage priced cheap, people will buy it anyway looking for something to buy. And as for competition he said it was only worth being competitive on new games prices, and crap Gamestop actively has in stock for newer games. He said that people will then perceive the store as having good prices. Judging by their google reviews and crap, they have quit even bothering with that. With older "rare/desirable" games he mentioned some blablabla about having to pay good prices to get good games in thus making him mark them really high but also mentioned that his target consumer there is essentially people that don't check online/refuse to buy online, and that what choice do those people have to get harder to find old games. Also some crap about how he felt old games had a lot of room to go up compared to eBay (which tbf, he was right about).

Basically, people are f@#&ing stupid but we already knew that.

Yeah, if they will even do it the cost might be more than just buying another PS2.

Speaking of Chinatown shops, I remember walking into one of those random variety shops on Grand, they had no games out but I went in and asked if they had any. They brought out a case of sealed N64 games, most were crap of course but there was one in there that caught my eye. This was back in the early 2000s, so sealed N64 prices were still "normal". But I did pick it up, sealed was intact and box in good shape, no crushing. It was Harvest Moon 64, I wish I had kept it. I think I traded on here.

Yea, sometimes they go on clearance. But mostly names you never heard of. Unless you like Enka...

I actually have bought Japanese CDs from them at "normal" prices like $15-$25. Newer release music CDs are so damn expensive in Japan, so when they have it at a reasonable price I just pick it up.
I just wish they actually bring over decent games from their Japanese stores. All they bring over is import RPGs and random 100 yen titles. No shmups, platformers etc.

They used to have let's say...PS2 games were all $5 or less. Now they mark up Dragon Quest VIII to like $20, like why would I buy the unplayable Japanese copy when US English copy is $10-$15?

They have a weird buy list though, usually newer release for like $25-$35 in CASH. Like...sometimes you can buy at GCU prices and sell to them for CASH and still make a profit.

Like I said, they hired a douchbag to manage their gaming department.

Probably closer to $200-$250. It'd be no questions asked if it was a stock mini 2(16gb and WIFI model), but because of the 64GB and LTE, my intital cost was $100+ more than stock. So I'm kinda hesitating.

Yeah that's the one. Going to keep it because why not. And yeah it's very narrow but I've always been a fan of playing various genres with specific peripherals. I have a Logitech G27 for racing games, a custom stick for fighters and shooties etc... So now I'll check out a lot more flight sims.

MSRP is pretty nuts, don't think I'd ever pay it, but thankfully now I'll never have to find out. I was always kind of interested but it was a lower priority due to the cost.
