new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Yeah and lower percentages for lower values. I'm on the fence about a heavy $22 item with pricey (but real) shipping. I wish they had baked it into the item cost and had "free" shipping.

I'm definitely interested in this! So, how do I sign up for eBay Bucks? Also, is this deal limited to select eBay sellers or can I get this discount from any eBay item?

I'm typing like a tard today. Keep having to go back to edit posts.

I meant it's targeted. The reason DD doesn't ever get it because if you regularly sell on your account, they exclude sellers.

But if you have a account that's typically for buying, or only sell a few items occasionally, you will get this offer.

It's good for anything on eBay except official PayPal e-gift cards, that is e-gift cards sold by that account PayPal Digital or something like that.

I can't remember if you have to be invited to join ebay bucks or not, maybe @Lunar knows. I'm too lazy to google.

I can answer the other part though. With the coupons and eBay bucks it will work with any item on eBay from any seller. eBay handles that crap.

Ah yeah I didn't mention this, but I pretty much felt it was implied. You can't use promos to buy gift cards and crap. You also do not get eBay bucks on them, for obvious reasons.

Interesting about how targeted it is though, I assumed if I signed up for all their emails then I was fine. This means if I ever go full tilt selling on eBay I should have another account for that....

eBay Bucks info here

Look under enrollment and there should be a link.

Q: Do all my eBay purchases qualify?

A: Most purchases on eBay qualify, but some restrictions apply. See Terms & Conditions.

For example, to qualify, purchases must meet the following requirements:
Paid for with PayPal
Payment needs to be made on eBay's checkout system. Payments made directly via PayPal to a seller's account aren't eligible.
Made AFTER you enroll in the eBay Bucks Rewards Program (can be a winning bid or Buy it Now).
Bought on the US eBay site (www.eBay.com). Some third-party automated bidding applications (sniping tools) are actually placing their bids on international sites as opposed to bidding on the US site directly. Purchases completed by these applications do not qualify to earn eBay Bucks.
Among other restrictions, purchases made in the following categories DO NOT qualify:
eBay Motors (effective January 1, 2017, Parts & Accessories within the Motors category will qualify for eBay Bucks)
Classifieds
Real Estate
eBay Gift Cards, Gift Cards, and Digital Gifts within the Gift Cards & Coupons category
Coins & Paper Money, but only for Bullion within that category
Heavy Equipment within the Business & Industrial category (effective January 1, 2017)

Too true. But hey at least everything worked right in the end. Well except that racing game and the 3DO controller, I'm still not sure on that game yet. It might just run like ass doing 3+ players. And even in the instance with the controller, you set things right so it's all good.

The one controller kind of works. Which honestly makes it slightly more annoying because my common fixing methods did not work. So I have no idea what the hell is wrong with it.

I should have taken a picture of that Just Cause disc before having it cleaned. The game runs flawlessly now, but man was that disc hilarious, a true masterpiece of a failed cleaning. When I took it in, the employee was like I don't see anything wrong with it. I asked if they were blind which is okay because they love me. But yeah then they looked at it better and went oh crap lololol.

You don't even need a turbo grafx to see if that works, you can just pop the thing into. like, magic engine.

Don't laugh too hard, I've had rigs that didn't work with Magic Engine properly because they were looking for XP CD drivers that didn't exist in Windows 7. Not to mention getting inputs configured from nothing's still a pain in the dick regardless, imo.

Promise you I don't have Magic Engine installed on anything.

But yeah, Ootake is fine, and it can be installed on just about any ole slapdick tower. Don't have a pc tower? Buy some complete garbage for like $40 or less off CL, worth it to test a $1000+ game.

Don't have any emulators, i go out of my way to make sure of that, but there are plenty of ways to check for bad discs, and can be found with a simple google search for example; https://www.raymond.cc/blog/test-cd-or-dvd-readabi...

Emulators are just more practical though.

Stop me when this is starting to sound familiar:

Buyer: Hey there, I am interested in your listing, how much are you looking for?
Seller: Well, I posted for offer. So make an offer.
Buyer: Ok, well, these are the lowest eBay sold listings, and they all ended around $50, so how about $40 shipped?

Buyer: Ok, that's cool. I totally respect whatever values you set your items at. So, what's your value?

Also yes, this. The only reason to stick to make an offer is because someone wants too much.

I think my best and easiest trades were done when both sides list values, and work out any disagreements with values. Then it's smooth like Tetris to build both sides of equal value.

This post was longer before...lol

Anyway yeah this gen is pretty great already, and just getting better. Very glad I got this PlayStation 4 from @Lunar and I'm doing some PC upgrades probably later this year.

Off your list I will be buying: Cyberpunk 2077 (PC), Dragon Quest XI (PS4), RDR 2 (PS4), Summon Night 6 (vita), Tokyo Xanadu (PS4) and Ys VIII (PS4).

In addition to that, Yakuza Kiwami (PS4), Yakuza 6 (PS4), Middle Earth Shadow of War (PC), Uncharted Lost Legacy (PS4), Vampyr (PC), Star Citizen (PC), Detroit: Become Human (PS4), Days Gone (PS4), God of War (PS4).

It's a great time to be gaming.

yes I'm happy it was sold to someone in this thread. I'm actually just passing on the savings/goodness as @PlayYing gave me a very good price for the PlayStation 4 trade.

I do love the PS4 as well, I have a ton of games/digital games I still need to play(P5, Witcher III, Nier, Nioh, HDZ), that's not including digital stuff. Plus Crash HD is coming in a week.

Yeah very nice, better than the prime discount, lol. I bit and switched from Vita.

All those new games should get the discount eventually. I've pre-ordered games before the discount was up and the discount does get applied to it.

Want a ghetto Zelda-theme custom painted model 1?

Or you could also spend around $130 for a modded model 2.

Sad thing is I just bought a Model 2. frown

Oh well, with the component cables I don't have to worry about the vertical line issue anyways. Haven't gotten the cable yet anyways, chickens before eggs. I will be TRYING to get a cable.

I've got a modded PSOne incoming, that's pretty exciting. Came with an RGB SCART cable I'll almost assuredly be ignoring, I'm just after the sweet sweet justice of being able to play imports and domestics on one machine.

Dave, I can RGB mod your SNES mini with a THS7314 or the 3 wire mod if you want for the HD Retrovision cables fo' free. I don't have any of the fancier amps like THS7316 or THS7374 but parts cost for the other two mods is pretty much $0. SNES mini has better video quality than the OG one.

It's really horrible. A game about writing down timestamps and repeating sequences based on your notes over and over. Any of these maniacs who call it underrated hasn't played it or hasn't played it at all recently.

It will probably be LRGs fastest selling game.

Although surely they'll include a rewind mode because modern gamers can't handle not winning on the first go

Yeah, it's much easier just to watch the funny scenes on youtube, I love FMV games, but I'd rather play something like Time Gal or Who Shot Johnny Rock? than it.
I wouldn't mind having the LRG release though, just because of it's infamy in gaming history.

From what I've gathered talking to multiple people from Florida, it's basically impossible to buy games from retro game stores there and not lose your shirt.

I thought you guys were talking about the DOS game. I didn't remember the stealth sections in that one. This is the retro game thread right?

I suppose in a way it's good to know I'm not the only person who's considered that action...

Oh, and @Gypsy , I would be interested in a few of those games, but as you can see, I currently have an outstanding debt to @Lunar ...

So, I have been going through my Humble Bundle purchases, there were so many games I didn't even redeem to Steam. I am starting to wonder how I will ever play all these digital games, let alone more retro games?

I think I can spend all my time just playing with the games I already own. And occasionally trade or pre-order a game I want.

I'm full on near the purge all my physical crap cycle! Here's the master list:

Sure. I'm in no hurry as mentioned, like if I still have these games I'm fine with that. I'm just kind of scaling back on some older systems (I actually just sold my Sega Dreamcast Ikaruga on PCEFX, don't worry @Lunar tribute is coming) I can easily play burns on. I'm not even sure what I'm going to spend the money on, though I will probably put some of it towards my PC upgrade likely this winter. Maybe a PS4 pro since this regular one loves OVERHEATING. Which @Lunar didn't know about, and I'm hoping @PlayYing didn't know about, or whoever he got it from, I have no idea on the chain of ownership on this thing.

Anyway to stop rambling yeah if you and @Wheels617 lmk what you want, I'm sure we can work something out.

Every game that isn't keith courage is rare as fudge, apparently. Of course, i could see someone selling at least 4 of those games and make profit easily, so 7 bills is not bad.

Only four of those games are any good, so I don't understand why the values for TG titles are so high.

Value's around $200 for the Japanese versions and frankly only because of Wind of Thunder and PC Genjin 2.

I've had this come up a lot lately, well not just TG16 players but "retro" (read: vintage) game players in general. They have to just about be the most retarded userbase in existence. And yes I'm definitely making fun of my own damn self here. But yeah, it's a community that values bootlegs and fakes ("repros") for starters. Buying a repro box/case for your repro game? Yeah that's pretty stupid too. I can at least fundamentally understand the concept of legitimate products as shelf candy even if I think it's a bit silly, repros though? LOL Gah, I better just stop now.

Dungeon Explorers and Cosmic Fantasy, I can't speak to the amount of text in them. The rest are either completely playable in Japanese (Ys titles) or the language is completely irrelevant, if it's not even already in English (every other title, besides that weird Dinosaur crap)

It's just the prices that offend me, but frankly that's up to the retards buying the crap, but that doesn't mean it can't make me ill. TG prices are outrageous.

Again, only the most english friendly releases ever, hell, even then they don't want it that much, Cotton straight up has an english translation caked into the japanese disc, yet it's still only $110 while the US version is ~1,200

Retro Thread Pilfer & Scoops Program
Here is how it works:

Offer up an item with value more than $10, shipping is paid for by the person offering. But before you can lock in the scoop, you have to offer up a "pilfer" of your own worth $10 or more in value.
- 24 hours to try to get someone to take your item. If no one takes it after 24 hours, it will revert back to the previous deal so someone else can have a chance. Feel free to change it up before your time expires.
- No other limitations other than you need to be at least Bronze Star to participate. Regular GameTZ trade rules apply.
- While there is no upper limit, but for a general guideline, I would say $20-$30 should be the upper limit.
- Please wait until at least 2 layers of new scoops before pending trade.
- No price means free. No PayPal needs to be involved, but can be used to offer higher up items. e-Currency is OK.
- Trying not to put more limits than needed, when crap happens, we will try to work it out.

What can I say, some of us are just masochists ...

I think there is some level of appeal to actually getting your hands on games that you never even saw in the real world when you were a kid ... so it's one step beyond nostalgia, it's almost more like trying to prove a myth.

At least that's part of what drives my TG and Neo Geo collections ...

That, and some day I'll be able to sell them for enough for a down payment on a house ... that will have space for all the games that I sold to buy it. It's a real gift of the magi situation I'm backing myself into here.

So I went into the game store with a medium sized bin of junk. Best thing in there was a SNES power adapter by far. Everything else was like college hoops N64, zoop, caeser's palace, dust covers, random off brand garbage, some composite/rf cables and other random junk.. And mind you the composite cables were for systems where you should REALLY be doing better like 360. Stuff that really is not worth selling on eBay if you even can. Anyway, walked out with Zestiria PlayStation 4 in hand and Yakuza Kiwami PlayStation 4 Steel Book pre-ordered. Still have credit left. "Retro" game stores are great when you use them the right way.

You can disable the blur filters on Nintendo 64 with a gameshark but yeah HDMI mod is a clean solution.

And yes I'm a masochist too. Sometimes I go full DD but it's been awhile.

I believe they got a re-release on the Nintendo GameCube.

That's true, also Sega Dreamcast but I meant a remake like they did to RE1.

The Destiny ps4 was working fine when I sent it out. I think the multiple shipments didn't help the condition any as well as the relative build date (a year or so after ps4 launch?). With that being said I think my launch ps4 is in serious need of replacement.

I had a big ol' invoice from yamatoku-classic so I just stopped adding things on to that and finally paid for it. I accidentally bought a broken Game & Watch from them a few days ago so I've been loading up on random games to make overseas shipping for a broken G&W less embarrassing.

Just get everything from Rare or Nintendo. It's not like there are hidden N64 gems that haven't been sussed out. Shadows of the Empire, Harvest Moon, and Bomberman are really good too.

I would say that this is generally true. It's hard to be a game collector in Florida. But this place is especially bad in that his prices are consistently 1.25x vgpc prices. I don't go there unless there is something I really want AND there is a sale AND I have Groupon's that I stock up on whenever they offer it.

There are stores where I'm at that either have good prices OR give good trade value., But never both.
You just need to find a way to work the system.

Really my go to store is in Georgia (30 minutes away, I'm on the FL/GA border)

Now adays post kid my collecting is HERE >NA > Reddit > OfferUp/letgo/Craigslist > Game stores.

Offer up an item with value more than $10, shipping is paid for by the person offering. But before you can lock in the scoop, you have to offer up a "pilfer" of your own worth $10 or more in value.

Ugh yeah early console build quality usually isn't the best. For now @Lunar is sending me some kind of external fan. If it comes to it, the game store I was at does basic repairs for $30. Hopefully any/all of that solves it, because I really don't want to buy a pro yet. I did get through a problematic spot for the system in Uncharted by just running a floor fan, so if push comes to shove..........

Yeah that's pretty much how game stores work for the most part. The one I frequent is the most fair here by a mile in terms of rates. The prices on anything old and in demand suck everywhere though, a couple of the stores just pay like...10% cash. I don't know how they get anything. Credit is best used on new stuff of course. Easily converted to cash if that's what I wanted to do, just buy a new release game.

sharif wrote:

The one I go to is jammed as is another place with crapty rates but a great location. However when the price boom first started happening there were a bunch here relative to the population and many of them did close up.

I like going to browse as well. One local chain that cut down on locations recently and "re-invented" (read: now selling vinyl, trendy shirts and funko pops) and had a grand re-opening really fudgeed up their browsing experience. Before the movies were neatly separated by format and genre, including anime being off by itself. When they re-opened all the damn movies and tv shows were jammed together in loose alphabetical order. Completely killed my desire to go there. Oh well, I'm sure they are selling loads of funko pops.

@Wheels617 I may just open er up and do just that plus clean it out with some compressed air.

Also this post was way too long, I apologize to anyone that read it.

I tried so hard to find something to justify spending $75+ on eBay, and I'm in the I-don't-really-like-it position of being unable to. Unless I can find multiples of what I'm looking for from the same seller, everything I'm interested in (Zelda, Actraiser 1 and 2, 7th Saga, a few others) are generally $30 or less. So together they add up to a chunk. Anything more expensive than $50 I literally can't justify the purchase (R-Type 3, even at $120, is a nonstarter. $65 for Knights of the Round? Gedouddahere).

For the record, if someone's got a lot with Zelda, Actraiser 1/2 and/or 7th Saga, I'm certainly in the market.

I got a new PlayStation 3 Mad Catz Fight Pad(Ken though wry smile but with bonus headband!), Mischief Makers cart, and Gundam 00 Complete Season One on DVD, added up to $77 minus $15, ohhhh yea it feels good to discount yes

Well, you know how wishy washy of a dog I can be. Now that I've got a Super Nintendo, you know, I want games. raspberry

It's alright, I've got plenty of carts to keep me busy. Want to beat First Samurai this weekend but it's kind of a tough game. Worked super hard for some time and I got to see the message "STAGE 2"

I've got lots of nice stuff, Super Famicom Metroid came in (literally the exact same as the US cart! When you start a new game it defaults to English, I was giggling), I've got the SFC versions of SCV4, Contra Spirits and what I THINK is a Parodius game, can't read Japanese but the text looks familiar inbound some time later this month probably. Nosferatu's on its way and I just bought Mystical Ninja SNES.

Lemme start by stating that I'm definitely not in the market for Knights of the Round (Super Nintendo). But, if I was, I'd help justify its recently inflated price by reminding myself that's more or less what I would've paid at KB Toys or Toys "R" Us back in the day. Sadly, it's that sort of twisted logic that's kept my video game habit going longer than the Energizer Bunny. dead face

$50's my hard limit, I'm even instating that on new games now. ARMS can be thanked for that. Was fun for one day when it was quickly forgotten.

I may do a slow build-up on SNES, but I'm keeping that to $40 or less per month. I'd love to find Actraiser 1 and 2 in that range.

This is the first time I am running into the eBay brick wall. So, one of my listings was "mis-categorized", apparently there is a Videogame manual category now(I did not know it existed).

So I listed one of my manuals under the category of just Videogames caused so much panic and anarchy, they had to restrict my selling privileges for 3 days.

And guess what, that fudging listing was fudging sold 3 days ago! (@Missile, it was Vandal Hearts II manual, I should have just tossed the damn manual out)

They sent out an "warning" to check ALL your listings, I only had 30 some listings but imagine some power sellers with 1000s of listings would have to recheck every single one?

And they didn't even bother to name which listings violated this HUGE policy in the message.

Good job butt-holes. I guess this is a heads up to you guys and also realization that in one instance eBay can take your elite seller status away for something as dumb as

listing Videogames in Videogames Merchandise to dodge fees, I don't do that but I know a ton of Japanese sellers do do that.

When I was running on full cylinders on Ebay as a powerseller reseller. I had all of my listings removed several times as Ebay changed policies, on shipping charges, etc. . They don't give a fudge how much they inconvenience sellers.

Also seeing as how I had near 9000 feedback and 99.7% and just completely banned me from selling ever again. They just don't give a crap. So I guess what I'm saying is, don't ever complain to me about Ebay.

The final straw was my declining performance. This was during the 2008 great depression. So you can understand my main source of income was based on middle class video game buyers. So I was distressed and performance dropped. I tried to argue hey man I have 99.7% life time ratings but no man when the robot decides you are done you are done.

On a positive note. I just started adding the uncheck mark uncheck, to all of the best of the best games on my collection list. These are the games I must play and beat. It's pretty neat. Maybe I'll start adding stars or something to the games I beat and uncheck mark on games I must beat. Any game I skip over without a check mark I could consider selling. I notice I have a lot of uncheck marks left, but also that I was willing to pass over some good games, because there are even better games on my want to play list.

Good luck with those dvds. I was eyeballing some GiTS stuff but I don't trust dvds on eBay to not be fake, esp anime. Actually, there is an obvious bootleg that is more than one I was looking at that SEEMS legit. Speaking of GiTS did I mention the last time I brought this up how much I hate the Hollywood version? Oh I probably did, so I'll spare a rehash.

Lol, what is the fee difference? And yes Japanese sellers use other categories all the time, I assume there had to be a reason...this one makes a lot of sense.

I'm buying the JP LD of the first movie so yes, I'm going all out here. The blu appears to be okay for Innocence and obviously it's my only option for Arise. I have a nice looking set for SAC 1/2 watch listed but I'm paying off @Lunar first

Yeah I'm just overly distrustful. It doesn't help that some later print runs of anime were legitimately handled by some crappier plants and are actually on dvd5s. -_-

I heard the subs were dogcrap and the English 5.1 audio has some major issues as well. So there is no good way to watch it (not that I'd want to watch the dub anyway). Of course, Amazon merges reviews but I dug around for other reviews not on Amazon and couldn't really find anything praising a US blu release.

The DVD appears to be fine I'm just being a jerk if I buy the LD. Maybe I'll just grab the Special Edition DVD. 99.9% of listings for that on eBay are stock photo which makes me sad.

I'm waiting for now. I don't really need the poster. I do want the correct disc in good shape though and this listing says : "Disc 1 has some light scratches, disc 2 (special features) is in Like New condition". Well it's eBay so that could mean light completely superficial marks or the disc is almost fudgeed.

Edit: If someone here would actually want the lower condition disc, no slip and no poster for like $6 shipped, I'd go for it. But selling anime is such a pita I know it's very likely I'd just end up with two copies of the movie FOREVER UNTIL THE END OF MY DAYS.

Good to see the other Xbox aficionado questioning this crap too. I just don't see $1500 here. I know Steel Battalion has value and he has most of the "rares" but yeah.... Xbox is very undesirable. Part of why I love it, even good games are cheap.

Yeah that's a big benefit to these. A great component switch is cheaper than a mediocre scart switch. Well that and there is so much more you can connect it to. Honestly just about anything that will take RGB like a PVM or DVDO unit, will also just take ypbpr.

I'm not just down the rabbit hole though, I've gone through the RGB Stargate.

Buying can be addictive behavior. Which is why I'm making myself knock out some anime I own and haven't seen. I finished Venus Wars before buying GiTS and I got more on tap to finish before that arrives. I'm hoping to finish at least a couple more discs tomorrow. I started Dominion Tank Police and it seems pretty legit.

Emulation, every time lol. Shadowplay. No sense in investing $600 in getting a "clean" rip from the console when you can accomplish near-similar results for nothing. smile

I was just thinking about if I'd ever get rid of the DVDO processor I have. Getting it back isn't a big deal but the ABT card is annoying to find. If I find that I'm fine with the HDRetro component cables, it's something I might think about.

I would guess somewhere firmly in the middle of composite into the tv and scart to bnc into the dvdo. I don't have the desire to spend more money to find out for myself though. But yeah, definitely see if it's good enough, you only use the 30 for gaming right? Could be hard to justify keeping something that's $300-ish (due to the card) around if you are content with retrovision. Of course it also depends on if you are using it for systems you can't retrovision with as well. Apparently the Duo has a really great composite comb filter.

Anyway, yeah I'd never sell mine, but I also use it for more than gaming, and use my 50pro every day.

- You need to be at least Bronze Star to participate. Regular GameTZ trade rules apply.
- Please wait until at least 2 layers of new scoops before pending trade.
- No price means free. No PayPal needs to be involved, but can be used to offer higher up items. e-Currency is OK.
- Trying not to put more limits than needed, when crap happens, we will try to work it out.

If I hadn't traded for a NEC TurboDuo Prince of Persia I'd probably grab that Sega CD one.

Maybe it's the network effect but when I see an ad for something $5 or even $10 cheaper at some weird new site, all I can think is, meh, I'll just buy it on Amazon with one click at $45(not that I need one right now)

Lol.

Here;s a fun one, everything after the specs of the dvds: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Giant-Robo-Economy-Pack-w-...

I would not recommend this seller to anyone, fwiw. Anyone into anime probably already knows about this clown. He actually changed his account awhile back. His old account had 14k feedback, so I have no idea why the switch.
