new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I place 100% of the blame on Nintendo. We know GameStop is going to be GameStop and do dick things, aka Power to the profits.

Nintendo on the other hand is in a fight to remain sopvent/relevant. Fudging same exact crap that happened with the NES classic.

Fudge it I gave it my . If it one close to MSRP then cool. I'm not going to break my back to get this thing, fudge you Nintendo die a slow SEGA death.

I wont shed them any tears, I feel like they abandoned the 80s kids that made them a power long ago. I usually get their stuff down the line after price drops and lots of third party exlusive rpgs are out, but I do want a couple switches, I think the kids and I would genuinely get some use out of them, but only got the wii u at the end of its life.

but there is no reason they cant make enough of these things. ive been taking some stabs at getting one today just to help anyone here that couldn't, i don't really have interest in it myself. Nvidia shield + 8bitdo controller equals all the snes you could ever want lol.

As much as I'd like to play Star Fox 2 legally, I will NOT:

1) stay up until 3 am hurriedly pushing F5 while sucking down Coke Zero
2) run all over the nearest 4-5 states to every GameStop within 300 miles of here in the probably vain hope of getting a preorder in
Or 3) pay some (insert words I no longer use here) jackwagon an ungodly sum

To get a SNES Classic.

Kimishima can kiss the palest, largest part of my rear end.

Super excited to finally get a nice copy of PSIV for sure, I've missed a couple of nice ones offered up on here as well in the past so glad to finally get my copy. I stumbled into both of those and also picked up 2 of the Nyko charging grips for the Vita 1000. I had no idea those grips for the original were so expensive until I started looking for one, guess they stopped making them in 2015...who knew.

I knew, they stopped making them long before 2015. I think even in 2013 it was a pain to find a one of those things, unless you got lucky and found a GS that still had some. They weren't all that great though in my experience, the battery on the thing stopped working after a few uses

My Vita 2000 Nyko grip has been rock solid and I really like how it fits my hands. I haven't tried these older ones yet but I hope they hold up better than a few uses. Actually, they're used so they may not even work now, lol.

I dunno, funny how all the video games are stock photos and some pretty choice titles with zilch on the commons...all listed as brand new. Mostly sells antique-y type random stuff. Guess they could have lucked into a collection or selling off one of their own. They do have a return policy listed which is not what I'd expect from some more questionable sellers though.

Well i managed to snag a few of those, so we'll see, but far as i can tell they seem genuine. Profile page says they just buy stuff from estate sales, so it seems plausible that they just hit the video game jackpot.

5% chance, from experience.

The crap games have higher chances. And usually if you are lucky, its boxed.

But the higher end ones, closer to 0%

[Side note] my two lucky hits from GS: boxed Contra Hard Corps and CIB/Minty Castlevania Chronicles.

Based on my and benstylus' experiences, the Wii light-gun game renaissance titles for the most part shaped up to be pretty good. Ghost Squad is our favorite.

Just listened to the new episode of the CUpodcast and they talk about how there was a craigslist ad in phoenix of someone selling 7500 nes consoles, and said they could also do bulk bundles of other systems. I can't find the ad but maybe that's why it's so hard to find games in az now they're all in this guy's house instead of recirculating

There will always be douchebags. All we can do is enjoy their stupidity and laugh at them publicly.

I love how imported obscure crap games are RARE and ONE of a KIND in the US.

Any idiot can go into a game store in Japan and buy a game no one's heard of for 100 yen and list it on eBay for $500 for it's rarity.

A better question to ask is "how many of them either come broken?" i swear to god.

I bought a huge lot, of like, 40, maybe 50 games from them once years ago, and i swear i'll never do it again. about half that lot was useless, some were actually in pieces, and only 3 games came with the cover, 1 had the manual. Some were badly scratched to the point the disc art was scrapped off, yet by some miracle it still works. Either way, don't do it, they're not known for giving a crap on the condition of games they sell.

I never understood the hate for GH/RB. Ok, I kind of get it, since it was adopted by non-gamers and got super popular, but at its core it's just a rhythm game, which is a genre I really enjoy. Plus I get to sing. I see no downside here.

I chalk instrument-based music and rhythm video games right up there with motion controls and virtual reality. I'm sure they're fun distractions and all. But, they just branch off too far from the primal video game experience. Give me a television (or monitor or handheld), give me a controller (or keyboard 'n' mouse or handheld), and let me, more or less, interact with this thing the same way I've been doin' since the '80s. Honestly, it's not that I hate the other stuff; it's just that I don't like it as much as the real deal. smile

Man, rhythm games are just about as pure a gaming experience as you can get. See note, press button. The difficulty ramps up as far as you need it to and there's always a harder chart for you to strive to beat. Movie-games like Uncharted 4 are the ones branching off that primal video game experience.

Give a music 'n' rhythm video game that I can play with a Super Nintendo controller and we'll talk. 'Til then, it's just more of a gimmick than anything else. If I want to play the guitar, then I'll go to my bedroom and break out my actual guitar. To me, it's like playing a video game where the control setup is the steering wheel and dashboard to a mundane '91 Honda Accord. I mean, sure, it can be done; but, what's the point?! surprise

I dunno...maybe this particular genre just escapes me 'cause I've never had any real aspirations to be a rock 'n' roll god. cool smile

It's ok, you can admit you're too good for Rock Band, and that Rock Band fans are inferior. It's all good, it won't take away from my enjoyment.

I think you're missing the point of the guitar. It's not to actually simulate playing the guitar, they're entirely different and incompatible things. If anything playing Rock Band guitar is closer to playing the piano, since you're pressing down on buttons with both hands. But turn that guitar into a controller with large buttons and you get Beatmania (or Pop'n Music or whatever is your preference), which is highly respected and takes insane skill. You really seem to be hung up on the crap peripheral.

Also I won't let anyone crap on rhythm games because PaRappa the Rapper.

I think you may've hit the proverbial nail on its proverbial head. I love PaRappa the Rapper (PlayStation) because it's a challenging, fun, and whimsical video game. I also love Katamari Damacy (PlayStation 2) because it's a challenging, fun, and whimsical video game. While they're both very different genres, neither of 'em use awkward, exaggerated, or expensive peripherals: just a plain 'ol controller. Granted, the latter incorporates an analog function; but, that's definitely a more natural evolution of the primal video game controller. cool grin

For those unfamiliar, these have mecha from lots of various anime in them making them a licensing nightmare in the US.

Yeah lol. I played through EF. Completely different from an actual SRW game though.

That other game is made by the same company but a different series. SRW games are full blown strategy games. Turn based combat on a grid, buy parts and upgrades for your mechs in between missions, the works.

I personally play actual electric guitar and I have been for 20+ years so I'm not a big fan of the guitar hero guitars but at the same time I personally love anything that gets casual people into music, especially rock. But I absolutely love Dance Dance revolution and any and almost all Kinect games because they are fun and they get people interested in video games that don't want to JUST sit there. It's all about having fun at the end of the day really, there's a lot of kids that would talk trash if they played a 2600 today too so it's all the same thing really.

I'm looking for some good turn-based RPGs. I've played Dragon Quest games but not much else. I've heard of many others but not sure what to get into first. I think I already have some Final Fantasy/Chrono games, so I wouldn't need those.

I also heavily prefer Dragon Warrior-style combat. I'm not a fan of ATB or tactical.

I'm looking mostly at NES, SNES, Genesis, and PS1.

Untested - Adj. Tested and not working.

eBay sellers are smart! They intentionally omit a AV cable, since it's cheap to replace and call it "untested due to no AV cable" and voila! You can sell it and get almost market value for it!

Just make the title of the auction "Sega CD Model 2, nice shape, TESTED" and the description "Fully tested and 100% not working". Get that value.

If the price is tipping, consider flipping the aftermarket the bird and investing in an EDN8! Unsure but you may even be able to get some of those extended sound channels like you hear in Gimmick, Bio Miracle Uppa, Kid Icarus FDS, Doki Doki Panic and Akumajo Densetsu. I know on the NES I needed to add a resistor to hear those, was kinda curious to see if the Famicom just played them normally.

Yeah, the PS2 sold insanely well. Even with many systems being scrapped it's going to be a long time before there is more demand than supply again. Maybe never.

I've got one still unopened on my shelf from ThinkGeek's last crappostings... I'll probably use this one as trade bait or just flip it at some point, but no rush either way. I'm interested to see if it continues to climb in price; it was about $120 before Nintendo discontinued, at which point it capped at about $275 then trailed down to around $220 once demand went back down, sunk to around $180 after the Amazon Truck/ThinkGeek resupply/wallet rape bundles, and now it's back to around $200-220 depending on completeness after about a month now. Don't think it'll trend downward from here, especially with the SNES Classic incoming, since no matter what anyone implies, these are pure shelf candy items and the people looking to have one on the shelf won't really be looking to inject them back into the market for some time.

So, speculative, a bit. But remember, the NES Classic's certainly not limited to 30 games with a bit of work, nor even one system library. The NES Classic, with a few title exceptions (Starfox I haven't tried but Yoshi's Island plays like trash), performs admirably as a pseudo-SNES/Genesis classic with very little effort, and I still like the interface more than an equivalent Pi setup.

The guy who runs RetroUSB once said the number of people on Earth with skill, time, and motivation to complete such a complex project is 3. Kevtris has made a similar single-digit claim on AtariAge too IIRC. I don't know crap about FPGAs but reimplenting this hardware seems super complex and Kevtris is really the only guy I trust to get it right with no compromises.

Titus, man. Get it while it's under the radar. If Game Boy collecting ever takes off people are going to realize it's only $5 on price lists because they're all confused by foreign and GBC copies. US gray cart is as rare as anything on GB.

That's absolutely what I was referring to, along with Amazing Tater, another potato based Atlus game. They're easily the most expensive Game Boy games.

DefaultGen is talking about Titus the Fox, which is probably the rarest Game Boy game out there, but has very common PAL and GBC versions. It's impossible to find, but if you do you'll probably pay $10 for it.

IV and V were getting difficult to get CIB but then SE reprinted them out the butt. Oddly enough I think I paid slightly more for IV and V than what they go for now because of when I bought them.

never know I guess, could go up could go down, wonder if we will ever get switch versions of all those, at some point the majority current audience will lose interest in anything too old, my kids for instance think anything pre 360/ps3 era looks pretty ancient. I was playing cosmic star heroine and they just weren't feeling it

@Gypsy ya I seem to remember 4 being that way, at one point I settled for a cart only 5 and lucked out on a case and manual later.

PS3 looks awful to me. At least, the later titles especially compared to what they look like on PC. But that's funny about your kids and makes me feel old, lol.

Anyway, I'm probably on the fence about those the most. I really like IV-VI but it's like...am I really going to replay them? Also I have like 3 flash carts which is how I'd play them anyway.

Wow! Now, that really is a disappointing surprise. Initially, when I learned that a brand new Super Nintendo/Super Famicom video game was being developed in 2017, I got excited. Later on, when I learned that the team responsible for it included a bunch of ex-SNK members, I got even more excited. But, with its price being practically slashed in half, I'm just not sure what to think. Is it really that bad or did it just not sell well and has already reached the status of a bargain buy?! While this new price may very well be the catalyst that causes me to actually buy it, I still don't have a very good feeling about any of this. frown

Cool! Thanks, RobotVendingMachine! Also, if you wouldn't mind divulging the price, I'd definitely appreciate it. I know it's gauche to ask; but, for the record, I only do so because, recently, I've been playing around with the idea of getting one for myself. smile

I know nothing about PS1 so every other game seems obscure to me. Sentinel Returns? It's a terrible puzzle (?) game I found out about this year. Grudge Warriors? Didn't know this game existed until this moment and somehow I own it. Apparently it's dirt common.

It's not THAT bad... it's not that good either, but it's a homebrew... I think everyone was expecting a new ga,e with full production value, which just isn't a thing that's ever going to happen again.

It's biggest problem is that it feels so slow. Everyone's used to fast fighters so ju,ping into something like this feels like molasses

The sfc box kinda makes up for that a little, but not the snes box

Hey now, Prime, Melee, Sunshine, Twin Snakes and Luigi are blameless for all the other trash that system attracted.

Actually I'm kinda surprised at the amount of good, playable games I'd still play today that came out on that system. I think it had more quality crap than Sega CD/32X... definitely more than 3DO/CDi or Virtual Boy. Better than an N-Gage, beats Jaguar...

Yeah I was trolling, it's one of their better systems, despite the small library. SNES is the best, obviously, but in either/or situations I'd take it over NES, N64 and Wii U for sure. Wii is tough, I'd have to really think about it. Assuming only Wii games for this hypothetical.

I would 100% have a Gamecube for that Fire Emblem game alone. Sunshine is underrated af tho and every game you listed is pretty good. I'm not big on Luigi's Mansion, but it's not a bad game. Double Dash is still the best Mario Kart game.

Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Splatoon

Bayonetta 2/Bayonetta 1
Breath of the Wild (it's even the system I beat it on)
Hyrule Warriors

NES Remix 1/2
Yoshi's Woolly World
Paper Mario Color Splash

And that's including zero Virtual Console titles, of which there were, of course, many, including lots of very good Wii games.

Lol you guys are weird! I've loved games on every system I've had. Sometimes you just have to try everything until you find something you like.

I'm still trying to figure out what I loved on game gear but shining force had to be good on it right?

There's something fun on every system I'm sure of it. Just because you want to dislike stuff and talk trash doesn't make it true 😉

I actually had that on my want list at one point. Before I realized I'll never have time to beat every game on my want list. The closest thing I have to even partially obscure is King's Field II.

First time ordering from LRG in a long long time. So I don't know how fast they sell out but glad I stayed up because I ordered the standard Vita Ys Origins copy shortly after it went live, was at 99% when I started, 51% after my checkout.

Night Trap sold out in less than 30 seconds, I'd say 15 seconds. Looks like Ys took 5 minutes. When I check the page after I ordered Ys and it still said 90% I couldn't believe it. I thought for sure this one would sell out fast (less than a minute).

I feel sorry for people that feel like they need to own games just because it's LRG. I bought Ys Origin because I'm legit excited to play it. And I do have a pretty strict physical want for consoles. Couldn't care less for PC.

Glad to hear Ys will be filled to demand. I also couldn't care less for scalpers.

Honestly I wish every game was to demand. I just prefer physical. I too was so excited to hear about Ys and feared I would miss out. This was only my fourth time buying from them direct, but I have bought a few others here on the site.

How much do you think those who buy EVERY game have invested? 5K-6K? I just wonder how much someone would pay for the entire collection when its all said and done.

Upon closer inspection of this image, I'm pretty sure I bought a fake NES Classic.

Note the slightly off Nintendo logo (o). "System" is off-centered on the unit, and there are ridges on the B and A button squares that do not exist in either the classic or the actual controller.

Asked the duder some questions (Does the interface lag if left open too long? Does switching the language actually do anything?) and he did say someone mentioned a laggy UI.

Asked him to check visually for all this stuff and send a refund if he's not convinced it's legitimate (which he actually offered quickly into my inquiries). Smells fake, boys.

Flawless logic really. The last time I bought a new game at Gamestop (Valkyria Chronicles, so yeah, it's been awhile) I made them get an actually sealed copy. Told them I wasn't buying it otherwise. It's just the damn principle of it.

This happens to us with Nintendo Wii games fairly often.

Speaking of the Wii and its descendant Nintendo Wii U, Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympic Games got a reprint. So you can schlep on over to your nearest GameStop if you're in need of a good laugh.

No, local game shop. It sucks since both times it was their only copy. So then I'll keep waiting to save a few bucks vs eBay.

Ah that sucks. The main local store I go to has pretty good quality control.

Well, it's pretty much everywhere around here, so I guess it could be new old stock too, but still... 80 bucks. SMH. no

On a lighter note, Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours is on sale this weekend! grin We snagged the PS4 version and Sega Fanservice Pack.

benstylus is enjoying it very much. I, on the other hand, am still playing Miitopia.

@sailorneorune Great game. Loads of depth for a shooter and replay-ability beyond just trying to get a better score. It was what, $10? I remember seeing a post about it but not the exact amount. I have no regrets having bought a Japanese Vita copy at launch. Of course if I had waited a bit, I could have got the PS4 version, but I didn't have a PS4 at the time and it's not a big deal.

PS4 version is $10, Vita version is $8. When I saw DBCS in the PSN sale list, I about fell out of my chair.

I'm still debating if I really want it on PlayStation 4. I found lately I prefer Steam over PlayStation 4. Not to mention all those DLC is $5.99 each(50% off), any chance we will get a Definitive Edition?

It isn't shipping for like a month btw, but it might not be the worst to lock in current prices. I mean there is one on eBay right now for $70 shipped. The seller would lose money if it sells at that price.

That happened to me today at Goodwill, found a case for Predator Concrete Jungle for Xbox but there was no disc inside. And at Saver's the other day, found a Custom Robo case with no disc, its still there today.

I'll put my hat in for Resident Evil. Sorry but the voice acting is a classic part of video game history at this point and should be in a museum. Definitely an enlightening experience.

As far as other gaming, it looks like Sep/Oct is going to be a very busy fun time for me portability wise. Ys Origin, Ys VIII, Mario Odyssey, Mary Skelter, Metroid. With Rabbids and Summon Night 6 as maybes.

It's funny that a decent, popular game underperformed. The RPG maker game it was paired with sold out just fine. Shows how much of their sales are just hyped up flipper vehicles.

Looks like two Ys Origin CE sold at $70 shipped. $61 after the man takes his cut, $6 minimum shipping. $55. LRG's price point before shipping = $55. Why are people willing to sell at this price point? Desperate I guess. If I were selling I'd let this early wave dissipate.

Because people are dumb, and hope to try to take advantage of those they perceive as being dumber than they are.

Though I guess I don't have much room to talk because I bought a used World of Final Fantasy CE today (minus DLC but plus a bunch of really cute stuff) without much regard to HOW THE HECK I'M GOING TO GET THIS ON MY BOOKSHELF. (It was $30 - I was willing to pay that for a copy of the game and a bonus soundtrack because I really like them).

That said... anyone interested in a copy of World of Final Fantasy? ...because we've got it already.

I need games with about 30-60 minute stream time. That's about how much I have in one play session. Bust-A-Groove fits that bill pretty well. Will stream all the other characters too. Though I think only @Sharif showed interest when I mentioned it, anyone else tried out this gem?

The soundtrack is phenomenal. I was only able to secure the Japanese OST. I don't think a US one exists. Would be awesome if it does exist.
