new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I can't even watch this since I will probably try to get this game later myself 😍

If I'm going to try a speedrun on it eventually I want to do it without stealing your methods. Not that I want to beat your run but I could see myself placing on the leaderboard just slower than Dugongue lol.

That might just be it. And I made mistakes on both the crab boss and the soda fountain boss. There's like 6 or 7 seconds to save just there.

No, my time was a 12:54, which is still 4th on the leaderboard, but just 2 seconds of 3rd and 21 seconds off the record.

I don't know what makes me more sad from this scenario here: that the flea market vendor taped right over the cartridge label or that the potential buyer's too freaked out at the possibility of a reproduction to just pull the trigger and buy the damn thing. But, on the flip side, I've already reached out to him and offered to buy the bundle and take the risk. Let's see where this goes. grin

OBS is free, you can stream anything on your PC. For consoles, you need something like a Elgato HD(the older model if you need AV/Component), that's what I use.

I like YouTube, but Twitch seems like its easier to use.

PS4 can stream on its own. Press the share button, and just link your YouTube/Twitch.

I use the GV-USB2 capture card for all my retro streaming. Way cheaper than the Elgato and doesn't have video/audio lag. It doesn't play especially nice with OBS but there are easy enough workarounds for it.

Before I put up on eBay, anyone interested in this sealed PlayStation 4 Darius Burst CE?

I am happy with just the digital copy.

Sadly, I did not get this at MSRP, I traded for it at about $150.

I can do trades/partial trades with value at $150, or sell for $140 PayPal shipped.

PM if interested. Will go up on eBay in a couple of days.

I honestly can't remember if the last time I played I got stuck on the hallway before Death or Dracula, but it wasn't much of a problem this time. The NG games are definitely harder. Without the double/triple shots this game might be a dog. They're the spin slash of Castlevania, not just holy water.

I agree, this wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Not that it was easy or anything but I guess I remembered it differently than it truly was. Can't remember if I ever completed it back in the day either, nothing after the first 7-8 stages felt familiar to me.

I thought Death was harder than Dracula for sure. Couldn't read the pattern with Death because of those stupid flying ring deals but Drac's pattern I picked up pretty early. The hardest stage for me was the clock tower or gears or whatever those are...I couldn't see those steps at the bottom for anything. Died a bunch of times trying to jump around looking for a hidden platform or some other way to go around.

Lol at the clock tower. You can see the steps coming back down on the screen when you go up! I expected Death to be harder than Dracula but I killed him the second time I made it there just by spamming triple crosses. I died more on the hallway leading there. Getting to Death with full health is probably the hardest part of the game. If Dracula warped you back to stage 16 (like the game does with every other boss) that would be the worst. You certainly can get your practice in.

Hello spoiler alerts!

Some people never even finished this game here, and it was only a race in the sense that we all race out and bought it not that you win if you pass it first. I was waiting until September to even clean my nes and Castlevania cart so it will even recognize there's a game in there.

Did you at least finish faster than Dugongue? That was the actual race here 😉

Well, I am still gonna stream Castlevania when I have some off time.

If Ninja Gaiden is difficulty 10, how would you rate Castlevania?

Difficulty 10? Out of what 15? I don't know about 10 out of 10. I still gotta finish it myself. I just took out the cartridge to put on Super Mario for some people I had over and now nothing wants to work again. So that's more frustrating than anything was so far in any game lol.

I guess depending on how much harder those last bosses are in NG1 will determine the overall difficulty in my mind but I'm thinking even with that its maybe an 8 out of 10.

Well to not make it too complicated, I just gave a number so we can compare CV to NG.

But before you rate NG, you should see if you can beat it first winking raspberry

I'd put NG at a 7 or 8 and Castlevania at a 5 or 6. I beat Castlevania in maybe 90 minutes, no where near the D-man.

I look up forums and strategies for the Nintedo Power™ for tough action games though, that's not a go in cold difficulty. For example:

Knowing a whip can destroy a thrown axe whether high or low without ducking is extremely helpful in the hall before death. Who knows how much time and brainpower I might have wasted ducking and dying much more often before figuring that out?

So a level or 2 easier. I've never spent more than a few minutes on CV and I haven't read or watched any videos, so should be all fresh and green when I stream. I did the same for Ninja Gaiden.

Really? I was under the impression you played Ninja Gaiden a lot before.

Idk if I would say Castlevania is that much easier since its a lot stiffer than Ninja Gaiden. I guess if you slow down and make sure you don't make any mistakes it can be that much easier but as much as I love Castlevania and maybe even prefer it in most ways I feel much more in control of Ninja Gaiden so in that way it's almost easier to me because it's more my type of play style. It just flows better for me.

I played alot of NG2, but i doubt I remember much anymore. I did fire it up last night and it's definitely what I remembered Ninja Gaiden to be. Should be interesting to see how much I remember when I stream.

NG1 was all new to me. You can see it in my streams, I made alot of rookie mistakes as DD likes to point out and laugh at me.

Played some of NMH last night. That game was amazing for it's time. The Wii really didn't have many games with that mature of content and it really took advantage of motion controls in all the right ways.

I think NG is more fun because of the way it flows. Enemy placement has a lot to do with it for me. CV only respawns enemies that are well off screen, so if you're methodical you're usually only fighting one thing at a time. It also never had a bat or jetpack guy spawn on the other side of a jump to knock you back and kill you because "Fudge you player, you didn't know that guy was there!". And dying to the final boss doesn't warp you back to the beginning of the hardest stage in the game raspberry

I think 5-2 is just as hard as 6-2 actually. Mostly because of that one jump climb. Once you get the hang of either level though they are fine and there isn't too much needless dying.

But yeah when I first picked up both of them again in the last few months since I've been playing nes again I noticed a higher difficulty in Castlevania from the beginning whereas in Ninja Gaiden the levels become progressively harder throughout the game. But again in Castlevania (at least not when I played again a month or two ago) the flow is much slower and you can't just fly through the stages the way I can in Ninja Gaiden. You are literally forced to kill a lot more enemies in Castlevania to be able to keep moving forward.

In Castlevania, you walk and kill enemies. In Ninja Gaiden, you run and slash enemies. In Ninja Gaiden II, you let the enemies hit you and try to run past that BS.

I started playing the game "cold" as well, wanted to test myself to see if it made me mad enough to want to look up ways around obstacles. Didn't time myself but I started after the kids went to bed and looked at the clock when done, roughly 1.5 hours or so I'd guess. Not much of a speed runner type of guy personally. It used to make me mad when my friends would skip over things just to get through the game. Although I can certainly see that as a way to replay a retro game now a days, after you have fully explored it.

I'd say a 6/10 on difficulty and 7/10 on fun.

It's been so long since I've played NG2 I wouldn't know how to play it anymore probably. So I'm hoping you're exaggerating about this but I don't think I played it long enough to finish it as a kid so you're probably right lol.

It's strange how vividly I remembered things about the first one though and what I had forgotten still seemed totally familiar. I'm hoping I will feel the same way about the second one but I'm thinking of just getting the Xbox version again and just unlocking the 2nd and Third Ninja Gaiden Snes games there mostly to save money but also because I need to give those og Xbox games an actual chance. People say they're great so I need to try again.

Nope. In general it's not too bad but towards the end you will definitely be seeking out strategic hits to take in order to bypass the otherwise obscene bullcrap you have to try and get through. The first game's design I could say was "brutal but tight" but NG2's level design would be best summarized as "a fudging mess".

As long as we're on the subject, what's y'all's favorite title in the Castlevania series? I know that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PlayStation) always gets a whole lotta love and -- don't get me wrong -- it's a stellar choice. But, as for me, I really like Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo (NEC PC Engine CD). grin Also, have any of y'all seen the four-part series on Netflix? If so, what'd y'all think of it? yes / no

Awesome show, great take on the third game so far. Need them to finish the crap. Sounds like they're working on it. Stellar voice acting and animation.

Hmmmmmmm, favorite CV game. The PCE game was pretty good, but honestly I'm torn between that and Super CV4. Good as Symphony is that's kinda beyond the scope of what I'd call a Castlevania, even if it defined every game that came after it.

Bloodlines was at the top of my list before I cleared it, and it's still right behind the other two.

I'm impressed that Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (Nintendo Entertainment System) beat out Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo (NEC PC Engine CD) in your book, Gredler. I gotta admit; I'm a little curious. What tipped the scales?

I will say that the final title in the original Nintendo Entertainment System trilogy was always my favorite as a kid. In particular, I remember being mesmerized by the soundtrack. Imagine my surprise as an adult, then, to find out how insanely good its Famicom counterpart is! grin

I've put a ton more time into CV3 - I've played each level, gotten each character, and enjoyed most of it except for the infuriating last two levels. Rondo has better graphics, and I've played up to the ghost ship, and with more time invested in that game the ranks will likely change. I really wanted to beat all of the games in sequence of release. I beat 1, then 2, then got stuck on 3. I love the music, and graphics, but just could not beat out those last two levels. I've not gotten to the last two with Grant which is my next effort, but my "classic game" area is in shambles so I've only played modern games for about 6 months.

For me I beat the first 3 on nes of course and Castlevania 1 or 3 on nes is the best with dracula X or whatever the psp version is being right up there along with that one from Xbox live arcade.

Two of my least favorites which I also finished were symphony of the night on ps1 and super Castlevania 4 on snes. I still love them because I LOVE Castlevania but they were not my faves. I'm not huge into 3D games usually but I also really liked Castlevania 64. Go figure.

I haven't played much Castlvania. I played SOTN back in the day, and ever since then I played some of the future Castlevanias. Because back in that day I thought "now that there is a save feature and RPG elements, now it's my type of game", lol. I've always been that type of person, any game that you could save your progress, I would be more interested in. This dates back to Cartridge battery saves and then later adventure games like Banjo Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing. The ability to save your progress and continue gave me a more attached feeling to the game.

Castlevania 3? I'm not sure why I thought that game was easy ..... But I haven't played it in two decades so maybe I was better at video games back then idk.

Give it a shot and let me know. I beat the first one in two sittings, the second one in one sitting, and the third one I tried about 6 or 7 different times and never could best the final level, and only a couple times I got to that level - the second to last level is very hard too.

I googled "castlevania 3 difficulty" and the results seem to make me think I am not alone in thinking cv3 is quite difficult.

"Castlevania III is by far the hardest in the series" was the first blurb on the results lol

I played a bunch of the mobile games but they blended together and I don't think I beat any of them. I had the GBA double pack and DoS but didn't beat any. Can't beat Drac in Adventure. Never beat SCIV. What am I missing out on? Games that aren't as good as SotN? 3D games?

Idk I loved that game though, that one or the first one are always so high on my list of best in the series. I haven't played every single title but Castlevania 3 especially with the multiple playable characters is just so much fun. I always thought the first one was the hardest as a kid but maybe because I beat that one first or second (after Simons quest maybe). I'm sure you're right but even super Mario 1 and sonic 1 seemed pretty easy as a kid and the controls in smb1 in particular are so slippery compared to any newer SMB game it's just frustrating to me lol.

Too bad that's also one of the most expensive in the series as well. I never see it anywhere either but I will try to get a copy maybe next month if I don't spend all my money before I get it again.

I can probably find one locally for dirt cheap in bad-ish condition but figured I might as well ask here in case someone has one in great shape they were looking to move.

Castlevania October makes a lot of sense because of Halloween, but September castlevania is cool too ;)

I think my personal goal for the month will be both finally get through CV3 and LoS. LoS is a game my wife could watch me play and enjoy because of the slight simblence of story, nice graphics and presentation, and perspective.

I kind if wish I had a JP copy of CV3, but ebay value is so high on that I am hesitant to nab one there. Wish I had found it (and snes x) while I was in Japan. Those two are large reasons I want an everdrive for SNES and NES

Dreamcast ports of Flashback and some SNK beat em up. Never heard of Ganryu, so sure port it to a bad console full of arcade ports. Who needs another port of Flashback, let alone Sega collectors?

Also Kickstarter for a brand new NES game that looks interesting. Typical NES gets something new, DC gets ports.

Yeah I've been watching the first one and it's pretty good especially considering it's from the 70s. Actually being able to run out of ammo is pretty legit. Slow paced but that was expected. Placed an order for ZZ, Char's Counterattack and F91 blus. Holding out on War in the Pocket until the blu is out.

Salt and Sanctuary is pretty cool if you like souls games.

https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-us/games/salt-...

Rabi - Ribi I don't know much about except you are a rabbit who wakes up one day transformed into a human. And it looks pretty cool. It plays allot like the old school platformers from the videos I seen.

I haven't beaten it again recently so I have no idea actually. When I was a kid I would get stuck sometimes on the fourth and almost ALWAYS on the fifth bosses so I'm sure my actual time wasn't speed run worthy at all. The last boss was always way easier for me than the fifth though even knowing the tricks (aka best methods not actual cheats of any kind) to beat them all.

I got a Retron 1 the other day brand new at a store (for only 20 bucks!!!) just to be able to play without having to "fix" my nes systems all the effin time. I popped in punch out!! Yesterday ..... So good and it worked on the first try best 22 dollars I ever spent maybe 😊

But yeah I'll start playing Castlevania on it soon but one of hyperkins nes knock off competitors says some games don't work on retron systems like dragon warrior. One of my favorite nes series. I'm guessing Castlevania has to work and I'm hoping DW works though but I'm really hopeful after how well Punch Out!! Worked. Man that game is still fun, although I wish it were Mike Tysons Punch Out!! But maybe I'll get that one later and have both. Why not?

Anyways Lunar, have you beaten Castlevania already or you were just looking for some feedback to help establish a goal for yourself?

Wow! Salt and Sanctuary looks really good and sounds like it might have some really cool elements to work with! 600 spells and/or items to create? Nice, that sounds like a ton of replay value right there.

I hope you do too! I don't mind paying more (or less in my case lately apparently) for these Lrg games from scalpers but I know you've been collecting them more passionately than I have, and I'm pretty sure you deserve a copy at a retail price.

I like the idea but it just seems like too much of a hassle when I can trade/sell games normally. Especially with all the risk of crap might get pulled out by the time I could pick.

That was the idea behind the rules I proposed. In the end the rules aren't what I wanted, but should be ok.

Salt and sanctuary should be coming out on Vita this month or next month so LRG should be doing a physical release on it about 2-3 months after release.

Yes but like he said about the games he wants getting pulled before he can pick them someone is just waiting to snatch that up and the Splatterhouse game might even go before that. (If it hasn't been pulled already I only looked at the virtual box once saw the rule list, which I totally admit is completely necessary, And promptly left to go make a great trade for some board games instead)

So the same rules of logic apply here, what's the point? It's similar in ways to the steals thread but because there are greedy dbags looking to take advantage all the time, so many extra rules (precautions) have to be in place that make it seem like you could never get anything you wanted from it.

Great idea, again in theory, but it's the greedy dbag variable I mentioned that will always find ways to ruin even the best intentions of everyone else.

As soon as Suikoden or any other high profile game goes people will start immediately pulling all their best games because that game is like the brass ring everyone wants to grab.

It's not her fault that it's not perfect. People have been trying to hammer out many different variations of the virtual box for a long time now but it never will be perfect. It's still really good for the community, but yeah it seems a little frustrating all the things that could go wrong for each individual trader.

Yeah but there's a chance that it'll need patches or pull a night trap and have it for sale before it hits the PSN store.

Even still just the idea it will get a physical release is nice. Not that I wanna pay night trap prices from a lucky bandito who managed to get a copy but it looks like one I wouldn't mind paying maybe even double msrp if I have to, or a little more on a fancy collectors bundle. I would still wanna at least see a video in action but it looks like something I would want to splurge on. I usually don't go for high end stuff but some of the lrg releases really are nice and seem worth it on some level.

Right. I don't blame @WithinTemptation at all but that's the way I see it going as well. The first person (do they even have to buy in? admittedly I haven't been tracking the thread full) will likely take the most valuable game. Then of course the person that had that game picked doesn't want to then take a game worth a bunch less, so they pick the next most valuable game and so on and so on. I'm not blaming anyone nor do I have any real solutions it just...is how it is so I really don't care to get involved.

Also the stuff I'd want to put in the box is all up on eBay. I don't want to have to pull it from eBay to put it in the box.

Yea. That was my issue as well. I have other listings up and it would be too much to pull them all down. I'll see if i have new ones I might put up but as Gypsy pointed out, it's probably easier to just contact the person for a direct trade.

Yes there is a buy in, but given some of the high value stuff added I'm thinking of putting a stipulation on the buyer in.

Can you guys tell me which of that old stuff is high value and how much?

I'd say buy in in $20 for first pick, but if they want to choose the higher value stuff buy in needs to be more. But I need help with value of the old stuff. If that stuff is really 80+ buy in will need to be considerable more.

I'm not going to be super strict. If a game needs to be removed here and there it will be cool. You are well aware of what I don't want to see happen. Let's say Suikoden 2 is picked then you magically sold your high value games. Once that starts to happen others follow.

Suikoden II (even loose) and Vasteel depending on completeness are quite substantial. I don't recall anything else too crazy but I certainly wouldn't let someone buy either of those for $20.

Anyone that wouldn't pay $50 for those is being greedy, lol. I do get that everyone isn't in it for value though.

I went through the list some more. Splatterhouse 3 is a $50 cart easy. There are some other things in the $40-ish range. I don't feel that any of those require a bigger buy-in but what does everyone else here think?

I still don't see how it can be enforced other than banning the rule violators, which is not good at all since all their games go with them.

Unfortunately I would have to do just that. If people see there is no consequences then they will just pull games as well. Remember we are only talking 24 hours they must remain in the box. We have both been a part of enough Virtual Boxes to easily spot these things. After 24 hours you can pull them, but I'd say pulling everything just proves you are gaming the system and will likely lead to a ban unless you can prove you sold/traded them.

It took me about an hour and a half start to finish. I remembered the first half of the game pretty well but the back half seemed unfamiliar.

Lol you know I'm in it for Shantae right? I've been wanting one of those games for awhile so why not get the best prettiest version especially in an auction?

I really didn't expect anyone to let me keep the high bid for this long with a bid that's still less than half their actual values combined. I plan on winning them for sure but I also know it's a steal at this bid. I've said it before if someone doesn't want to outbid me just to get it as cheap as they can ..... That's pretty low. I never feel good about people getting ripped off, especially if I feel like I ripped them off.

If I win with that low of a bid I will let you keep the games if you feel that's too low. And I know you didn't mention any kind of a soft reserve but that's because you're a good guy and wanted people to have fun which is pretty cool of you. I guess we'll see how crazy those last 15 minutes get tomorrow lol. 😊

Just looked through my sealed games drawer for the first time in a while to add some new stuff in, some investments paid off, like the 3 fire emblem shadow dragons. I had a bunch of those I was reselling from walmart clearance at some point and saved 3. looks like nier got a reprint, it was worth a lot when the sequel came out should've sold then. and apparently zombie bbq for ds is worth a lot of money even unsealed.

I'm considering selling all my games to go halves with my dad on a rental property so you may see a lot of heavy hitters for sale soon.

Same, 90 minutes for me. I looked up an important strategy tip for the hallway before death and an important item tip for Dracula. Without those, it probably would have taken much longer. When I played before, I'd get stuck on Death.

I love the music. Never got far enough into it to have any other opinions, it didn't hook me gameplay wise but I really didn't give it long to try.

Far as I know only confirmed in UK, though I'm a bit sad, that would suggest they don't plan on releasing it on PS4 digitally which to me would make much much more sense.

Nier is a cool game..and still pretty pricey compared to most ps3/360 games. They are also different games albeit not in the overall story.. ps3 is nier gestalt, 360 is nier replicant.. which makes sense if you are into the drakengard/nier universe lore.

In gestalt you are older and it's father/daughter and replicant the protagonist is younger and it's brother/sister.

I may have reversed those loll

Nier is also kind of actually the third game. As drakengard 2 wasn't directed by Yoko taro and goes off a non canon ending of drakengard 1. And drakengard 3 is a prequel to all of it. Confused yet? Good. Yoko Taro is pleased lol

Well it's eBay right? You guys aren't there to braid each other's hair and hold hands. You're trying to sell your item for what it's worth not just give it away for less because you guys are such great friends. Why does this guy expect a discount again?

What exactly did he say to you? Did he get even more offensive on the alt account?

Probably a reseller. Don't worry about it, they'd have listed it ten bucks above whatever they're complaining about.

The best way to tell them to fudge off is to kill them with kindness and let them know as politely as possible that they can fudge right off. ^^

Nothing magical about it. "I'm so sorry that you don't like my pricing, but at the moment I have no competition so I'm afraid the price will have to remain. Sorry about that. :( :( :(" The triple frowny face always gets 'em. If they explode you get a giggle out of it. Win-win.

I don't believe my son has played Castlevania. He got demolished. I'll play it this month sometime. I don't find it difficult except for a few moments. I no deathed it last year after about a 3 year gap of not playing. It was my first no death and I did it on the first run. I wasn't even thinking no death. I did that on Contra as well as a teen.
Oddly enough, I think spending hundreds of hours aying C3 as a kid allowed me to smash C1 with only a limited exposure to it. I only played it maybe 2 different times before I got it a few years ago. I remember beating it on the first try with just 1 continue. I played a lot of C1, C3 and Super Castlevania as a youngster.
My son loves the monster theme.

Beat Rondo of Blood. It's kind of weird playing it directly after CV because it's almost the same game with more control, more power ups, and more graphics. I had to look it up to make sure it wasn't a ret-conned remake because the levels and bosses are so similar to the first game. One big difference is that Richter is a little dog compared to Simon. Maria is a badass.

Also I'm a weirdo so I'll just say it ..... I liked Castlevania 64 better than Shadow of the night ..... In fact even thinking about it makes me wanna hook up my ps2 just to see if I even will like lament of innocence (I think it's called right?).

Maybe it's just because it was a Castlevania game idk but it's always been one of my favorite 3D platformers, but most other 64 platformers just weren't very fun in comparison.

Rondo of blood wasn't part of that psp Castlevania was it?

@Lunar yes, 3DS plays DS games with a slight blur, it's normal (effectively the 2DS XL is a 3DS with the 3D option removed but everything else is the same). Every model has done the same thing, only actual DS models scale clean and properly.

It works on one boss actually but yesterday I actually beat that boss with something else. And I did use the holy water on the wrong boss yesterday because I somehow got stuck with it and it did work on that boss. Today I beat one boss with just the whip Ninja Gaiden style lol.

I'm actually seeing today though that you can actually beat all the bosses (not at the end) with different stuff if you move around enough except one but I'll come back to that one later and try some different techniques even though I know which sub weapon to use I don't wanna 😊 Im not trying to speed run anything in this game though I'm trying to go through all my options carefully and devise different strategies since there seems to be a little wiggle room on how to get from point A to point B.

Which is kind of odd because I got frustrated yesterday because of the Ravens on one of the stages and got bored and turned it off. Today I beat the first two bosses without dying once on the way and getting past the third boss without continuing. But I wasn't really rushing idk why I just breezed the first half of the game today. Maybe tomorrow it'll be harder again.

Those are flying sickles but maybe fight fire with fire?!? No need to cheat sir, each boss has a weakness to at least one sub weapon. That's not a cheat that's a tip. I think mega man got the idea from this game honestly.

Yeah they were trying to make the game look like a painting with 8 bit graphics lol. If you look at the difference from that Castlevania arcade game that @Noid linked the other day (not the play choice 10 version the other one) you can see they really wanted some fancier graphics than what they could pull off on the nes effectively.

But yeah the grim reaper, or death. I played him earlier tonight in between posting on here so I wasn't totally invested in beating it tonight, I've got all month to beat it why do it in one sitting when I do really love this game? I'm going to keep working on alternate strategies for the grim reaper anyways. He was always the hardest boss as a kid but I play differently now. I'm sure there's another option besides the easiest one.

I'll throw in a Tiny Toons Adventure cart for the first bundle at no cost, only problem is the back casing has a chunk punched out of it like a baby godzilla foot, but some tape on the inside would secure it, which I can do before shipping.

Lol you guys have to realize I've been playing Castlevania games for what? Almost 30 years now?!?

And I'm not the biggest fan of "symphony of the night" (lol 😉 ) and I have played 100s of hours of so many different Castlevania games.

Plus I liked Castlevania 64 better. It really was fun to me. But I am used to liking less popular sequels of games more than more popular ones. Everybody used to tell me how much better snes Castlevania was than Castlevania 1and 3 and I knew which ones I liked best and it wasn't super Castlevania 😉. It's weird when people try to tell you which one is best lol when you have played and passed all three of them. I even liked rondo of blood better than sotn and I didn't even realize that was the name of the other game I was playing on psp. I'm just more into old school platformers than new school ones. And when I looked up the psp Dracula X chronicles to make sure I had indeed played rondo of blood it said there were two other hidden Castlevania games in there aside from sotn that I hadn't even played! D'oh d'oh d'oh!!!

This is what I get for being so old school and wanting to pass games on my own with my own strategies and not looking up every secret online. I think I may have traded that psp game to Lunar or Dashey I can't even remember now. D'oh!

But yeah to me sotn was okay it was not my favorite Castlevania ever or the best. Castlevania on the snes was equally as average to me as sotn. I might even like Simons quest more but that was my least favorite on the nes which isn't to say any of those games suck, they're still Castlevania (one of my favorite series ever) so automatically I like them more than other games almost by default, but compared to other Castlevania games yeah they are the least interesting and/or fun to me. When I first started Sotn again on psp I found myself trying to rush through it because I was actually starting to get bored and I wanted to see if I could open up new characters or stages if I passed it. I don't usually get bored playing Castlevania games ..... If you guys wanna raise a banner and talk about how great those two games are feel free I've played them for way too many hours on end and still don't like them as much as the others. I know exactly what I'm talking about and I find them far less fun than even Castlevania 1. It could be just the controls or the enemies or the play style or the difficulty I really don't know why I'm not as into those two games, I didn't even realize people were so into snes Castlevania still. Maybe I like snes Castlevania better than Simons quest but not sotn idk.

Okay sorry for the long post but I sometimes don't know if you guys get that not everyone has the same favorites. Maybe me telling you guys Castlevania 1 is so much better than sotn is the equivalent of someone telling me Mortal Kombat 1 or 3 or even trilogy is better than Mortal Kombat 2 (which is the best in the series aside from mk9 it's not even close) I'm not sure that you guys get that sotn isn't all that to me. Sure there's some cool new elements to it and I love the rpg aspect of it but didn't Simons quest also have similar things and everybody kind of hated it?

Which reminds me does anyone wanna trade me a copy of nes Simons quest? I haven't played it in forever and with all this Castlevania talk I would like to again. Also I don't have any copies of sc4 on snes so I might want that too eventually it's not as high of a want because it's way too expensive when there are way better games in the series for way less. And I'm still not really wanting to play that one again. But if I had an snes Classic I'd probably start playing that before any other games.

You know I liked Super Mario 3 and especially 2 way more than I liked Super Mario World as well if you wanna tell me how you can't even fathom that either lol. Or Zelda 2 better than snes Zelda? Or Street Fighter 2 turbo (or hyper fighting or whatever) better than any other entry that I've played in the entire series? I also have yet to spend any real time playing final fantasy, super smash brothers or Pokemon. I've never played more than a half hour of any individual call of duty game lol.

Okay this post is way too long. But I just don't like things JUST because everyone else does. That's stupid! I just like what I like just like everyone else does.

I was thinking $80 on that first bundle was about fmv but if can be hard to value Super Famicom with the lower listings that slip through. But yeah, debating buying all of it.

Maybe that freebie puts you over the edge!

I think I valued it off listed sales something like... RM7 for 15, Contra Spirits for $30, Parodius Da for $25 and Akumajo Dracula as another $30, then shave a few more bucks off for shipping. But my asking price is the typical "take price and slice off 20% and eat shipping/fees" crap

If you wanted everything I could do $90 shipped. And I'd still throw in Tiny Toons. So that, Super Donkey Kong 1-2, Super Mario Bros 4, Contra Spirits, Parodius Da and Akumajo Dracula for $90 shipped.

How much different (if at all) are these compared to the US releases? This is such a good deal if they are mostly the same. I'm getting a retron 5 and have been needing some "Super Mega Donkey Kong 2" in my life for too many years .....

Very much fairly identical. Stage names are in Japanese and the occasional text box, otherwise really no reason to take US over Japanese, especially once price is taken into consideration. There were probably random censorships in the US games not present in the Japanese versions as well.

Not SNES related but I know in the PCE/Turbo Bonk games they removed girl Bonk for the US release. My general stance is if it's not an RPG, I'm good to go for the Japanese version. Hell I converted some Dreamcast games awhile back (sold US versions I got cheap when no one cared about DC and replaced them with JP copies) making money in the process and still having the same games. Japanese prices are climbing, but they look downright sane compared to the US release most of the time.

Nice, I actually got quoted 35 at this retro game shop for cart only dkc2! And instead I bought a copy of Tetris plus for 10 ps1 complete, foxs Peter Pan and the Pirates (what I thought it was rare I had never heard of it or seen it before lol!) for 10 nes cart only and a retron 1 brand new for 20 so it was a similar price to just that one cart.

But Yeah if gypsy passes I might be interested 😊 But you should trade them to him since I only want one of those ..... Well maybe two my ex effin loves super Mario world it's like one of her favorite games ever. At least she would have something to play when she visits.

I've been both triggered, and greatly saddened.

And yes, turbo collectors are dumb ... but there's something to be said about an underappreciated system finally getting some of the attention that it deserves.

And to be fair, there's only about 10 games (out of like 150 or so) that are grossly cost prohibitive, which, when comparing that percentage to some of the other systems that have really unaffordable games, it's actually on par, or even better.

You mean like the neo geo original cart based system?

But to be fair even when those first came out each cart was like 200 so maybe it's not as bad if they're still around the same.

Unless you people are trying to say Super Castlevania 64 and the Zelda snes super Ocarina to the past are better than Magician Lord and Samurai Showdown 1&2?!?

But despite all the trash talk turbo was a cool little system I never had one but my friend did.

Lol yeah those conversions are kinda baffling. I get why maybe if it was the only European Castlevania ever but it's really not.

And yeah I know about the nes classics version that was the one I was thinking of when you posted that, well that and SMB 2 (with the weird title SMB advance 1) and Zelda 2 and Ice Climber. I need all of them ..... I'm not even sure why. I could get the nes or gba versions and supposedly they are the same ..... But in my mind there has to be some differences I just don't know what they could be and am compelled to find out.

Yeah I was actually going to reply about harvest moon on snes when I remembered how expensive those neo geo carts were.

I still want the original harvest moon in future land, despite the ridiculous price or the fact that more than likely the ps1 version is still probably way better anyways.

I love the PCE. The prices are getting worse and worse on a lot of games though. Used to be a great budget option if you were willing to import. Now there are just too many people importing from Japan. Like I said it's still better than paying US prices at least.

As for Neo Geo, AES carts were balls expensive when they came out. These have never really been a cheap thing. Ironically though they were made to be much cheaper than MVS carts which were thousands at the time and now AES carts are worth much more for basically no real reason.

The Flame in the Flood (Procedurally generated indie survival game. Kill me)

Ys Origin PAX Variant (How is it a PAX variant if you're selling it online you dummies. Not enough buyers at PAX?)

Is that how it usually goes around here?

The only thing I'll do is post game room pics and play a game or two yes But thanks for the input!

Got some SNES games to unload now, no imports.

image [full]

Super Mario World, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Super Mario All-Stars (Zack H wrote his name and number down under the front label with permanent marker, also has a couple small nicks on the bottom label, otherwise looks nice), Mickey Mania (bit of label nicks on top label), First Samurai, Jurassic Park. Wanna sell these together for $70, and I'll throw in a manual for Super Mario All-Stars. Can do Mario Paint with a mouse for another $10.

Possible partial trade for Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ on Switch, or we can work out an even trade. Would also accept Gamestop credit, can do $80 for everything including manual, Mario Paint and mouse. Can also throw in a first party controller for another $5 if you're picking up everything.

If only I could afford that. I know it's a pretty good deal even though I mostly just want the Mario games.

Btw does Mario paint utilize a battery save system and does it need to be replaced eventually?

Great price there especially with the snes mouse.

Uhm. I think it has a battery? It lets you save animations and stuff so I have to assume yes, not sure, too lazy to crack it open and find out --ah fudge it. *cracks it open* Yes, it has a battery. raspberry

Lol I am surprised that you opened it. But thanks for checking. And plus didn't you use to use it mostly to make songs? I know I did.

The animation was cool in theory but the mouse was a little hard to make good art with for me. Or any art and animations really.

If they're the Steam versions they're not worth $5 altogether.

Eh? Whats the difference? Digital porn is actually preferred these days no? I guess we could wait for a Hunie Pop LRG edition.

They censor the dumbest crap in the Steam releases to make sure it stays on the marketplace.
