Thread Description This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.
We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates. There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room. I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them. There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.
Old Topic Description
GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is . I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).
No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.
- WTTF/WTB/LF - What you think is awesome game/series/whatever - Potential games you have up for trade - Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever - Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection
> I spent like $6 on an s-video cable. Dedication.
Me too. But honestly, s-video in combination with an upscaler like iscan or OSSC looks really good for gamecube games. It is true that s-video is the biggest jump in picture quality. So you don't have to be an upscaling fiend like me to enjoy the benefit of a nice s-video cable. None of my TVs take S-video anyway, so that was one of my many long lists of excuses to go ahead and get into upscalers.
The worst part about playing Castlevania 1 again is that it totally reaffirms for me how great of a game it is. It's even better than Ninja Gaiden 1 for many reasons. The stiffness of his jumping is absolutely NOT one of those reasons.
It also reaffirms for me that it's superior to sotn in a lot of ways as well. This game and Ninja Gaiden hold up amazingly well after almost 30 years each it's crazy how good they still are!
lol, I think it was for spamming in the forums again, which he didn't think he was doing. its worth a visit to his page to read his comments on the matter, since we are all nerd sheep in our own way. I think it might have been a way to just ex-communicate, at the end of the day I suppose it was bad for business.
I figured it out! I can use computers! Not an old man yet. I just can't find anything I want on HPB. Their prices really aren't superb. Is there anything that would be a great deal? I looked for comic collections but would only be saving a couple bucks on most things over Amazon.
Fudge yeah dude, rep that crap, best Gundam in all the land deserves the best Bluray treatment. Do you know if that includes the movie as well, Wesker's Report I believe Miller's Report? Don't think I popped it in before selling it off, needed some juice during our steals if I recall.

Miller's Report and yes it is included. RS/Sunrise have been real good about content in these releases.
0083 is next on my to buy list. Wanted to watch these before Zeta.
I want to get Origin as well but the last episode just came out in Japan. There is a blu release here that is the first 4 episodes but that seems dumb to buy when they should put out a release with all 5.
>> I've slept on it, and I've decided I'm still mad at Castlevania.
> I stopped watching after you got crushed by the spikes for the nth time lol. Did

I got through it without stop time. I got to Frankenstein's set of stages in about an hour then spent 2 hours dying over and over. The last straw is when I died when he had 1 bar of health left, then we double KO'd right after.

Baller ass trade. I think it wasn't super great with 480p content but maybe that's been helped out a bit with custom profiles. Better ask a Framemeister expert like @DefaultGen
I kinda want an XRGB-3 for the versatility.
Right now I'm playing lolball with the projectors I mentioned awhile back. Doesn't seem like there is much if any other interest so I'm trying to get them as cheap as possible. Then if that happens I've earmarked the funds to get some speakers for the set-up in the $850 range.
Use FirebrandX's profiles. The only thing I need to tweak about them is vertical centering. The deep color noise reduction profiles are a must IMO, especially for Sega CD FMV segments which generate lots of noise for whatever reason.
@BleedingViolet Might be as well. The speakers I'm looking at are there so it would have to be someone okay with shipping such an item too. I'd pay for time, especially since I could presumably get a discount for local pick-up. The person is willing to ship but I have no idea how competent they are so I'm weighing all my options here.
Edit: It would also have to be someone I trust with $700+ so that narrows the pool a lot.
> Can you not go to good old Newegg and buy a speaker?
So yeah, these are older and fairly compact (essential for me). Also pretty damn good value for the quality. Obviously I'm not looking to drop like 50k or more on speakers. But anyway this is a ways off (need to get the projectors first) and I may just end up having the seller ship them.
Gamedude is in North Hollywood 😊 That's where you should be asking about. @whitefire you've been to gamedude right?
And I'm out in the desert in Palmdale in the ghetto at that! I worry even getting mail here since we have tiny mailboxes and I don't want to have any packages left in front of my apartment either. But the rent is super low it's insane. I also can't have pets here and I've been wanting a dog or another rattlesnake.
I finally bought some heavy duty garage style plastic shelving though. I can finally sort stuff out a little easier. Hopefully I can figure out what I have that I don't need and update all my lists here.

Wow I'm sorry to hear that. I already bought too much stuff this month so I may be selling some stuff too. I hope people give you reasonable offers though. Especially considering why you need the money.
Actually that's the funny thing about these bosses, you can read and watch all the videos you want but ultimately you can still win with your own play style. There's almost enough wiggle room in the boss mechanics where you could beat all of them without sub weapons (except one unless you're able to predict the future maybe)
Some ways are slightly easier but this is not really one of them. It's however you feel comfortable.
I'm glad he's doing it on his own. He may come up with some new tech that can shave some time off someone else's speed runs. I'm not talking about this scenario in particular but some of his earlier footage had him moving pretty quickly through a stage.
Yep, thats the ticket Lunar. Horrible system if you are using it stock, one of the best portable retro emulation systems though. Only thing that sucks on the go is the heinously expensive memory cards. Sony really should have learned their lesson on this and not made the vita memory cards proprietary.
Well hey, "New" NES Classics on Amazon's sellers market (G&L Discount Store), found something to spend $160 and some change on.
It's ...a doable price, which makes me wonder if it's more fake crap. He DOES sell fake crap, but generally marks it as such in his listings. We'll see. I'd hate to have to return two packages in a row. Should be here Monday, I'll fill you guys in if it's legit. It's not MUCH under market, but Amazon's usually way over market so less than market's doable. Especially if you've got Amazon credit up the ass.

That is a decent price sir. Hopefully it's the real thing. Did you say he had more than one of them at that price? Wasn't @KingofGames just looking for a nes Classic?
I recently saw the start up screen and realized it had a couple of extra features I wasn't even aware of before after I looked at that and did some searching. It really is a cool little system worth having even if only just for save states.
> SNES that bundle woulda cost you... $380, plus you'd still have to get Parodius Da
> on SFC because it doesn't even exist otherwise.
Megaman 7 is the main offender right? $15 or less vs $160+. Lol ok.
Parodius is solid. I just play Saturn burns of them, but I wasn't going to ask you to cut something from the bundle. For anyone looking to get into the series the Saturn is actually the best way to do it, the entire series is on there (sorry Paro Wars you do not count) and it's easily cdr'd.
Hyundai Super Comboy Super Mario World 2 (licensed Korean SFC shell, fully-English game), Super Metroid (also fully English), Jerry Boy (Super Ball with the cutscenes that were removed from SNES game) and Kirby Super Deluxe (Kirby Super Star) - $60
Then I shall definitely get back to you when I start going through stuff. Or even possibly buy it out right if I sell some stuff I don't need, we shall see, but just so you know you've got at least one potential trade or sale for it 😍
Argh what a pain, i got one of those buyer who was obsessing over the color quality of the box art saying it's SLIGHTLY lower than he though, and wants a refund. He says the disc holder is broke too, which i'm not necessarily doubting, but the whole thing just seems suspect.

I list all my stuff on eBay as acceptable and no returns (I know it doesn't actually matter) to avoid these kinds of buyers. Whenever I get crazy condition inquiries I generally politely tell people I don't need their sale.

> Was it that dreaded hallway or Death?
There's a couple ways that make that hallway easier ..... There is nothing that makes Death easier or less unpredictable. Hardest boss in the game easily even with the right weapons. I can only imagine what that hallway and the Grim Reaper are like the second time through.
Lol one shot? You used a spin slash on the Grim Reaper?!? 😉
You just meant the second time you started playing it again right?
I was working on a method to pass him without the best sub weapon. It's totally doable but you kinda just get the one shot so ..... I ended up using the best one when I got past that stage on Wednesday. Even with that though you still have to move and not get pinned down anywhere. And still "Whip it Good!" Lol.
Got GBA emulation up and running on Recalbox, murdered Brock (and by that I mean my level 9 Ratatta at the end of the match was lucky Pikachu managed to pull off a Paralyze and a few Tail Whips before it and every other Pokemon on the team faceplanted to every Rock Tomb that got off)
> Yep. Seller keeps apologizing but fails to offer any sort of return or partial refund.
> I opened a case.
Awhile back I had a seller instantly accept a return but then didn't send me a label. They ignored my messages. The soonest I could I escalated to eBay so they sent me a return label and the seller then just immediately refunded me before I even shipped the item back.
Btw I probably worried you about this PS4 for nothing. It did freeze but I think a lot of it was on the VP50pro end. It just started giving me crap with a standalone blu player tonight. Pretty sure the fans in it don't work right and I even replaced them. :/
Castlevania 2 Simons quest is almost like a different type of game than 1 or 3. I believe there was an actual rpg element to it as well.
I saw it at the retro game store a little over a week ago and bought foxs Peter Pan and the Pirates instead of something I had actually ever heard of ...... I'd be down to trade for Simons Quest maybe. It's not a game I remember as well as the other games but it still has some positives in my memories.
Also I don't remember Simons Quest being hard at all. The only one I beat that gave me trouble was the first one I believe. It kind of sets you up mentally for the others.
Damn now I really want to see if I could pass the harder second playthrough of Castlevania. I doubt it but at least it will be challenge.

I might be interested in Saturn D&D @DiamondDave if you want to check my list also. No promises you will find anything. ...and no, my Super Mario RPG won't work for this deal unless something more is added. :D
>> Never, turns out I can never beat the hidden boss: Random Freeze
> I got killed by the same boss today in the SNES pile of garbage Unholy Night
Dang! Is it really that bad?! What about it didn't you like: the controls, graphics, sound, or a combination of all three? Are there any redeeming qualities to it?! A mini, mini review would be nice, if possible. I'm just so disappointed that this thing flopped so hard.
> |>> Never, turns out I can never beat the hidden boss: Random Freeze

It runs at like 10 frames per second, so I'm already done. There's no way I'm playing a fighting game that runs poorly when there are so, SO damn many random fighting games that look and run great. There are a whopping 6 characters and 2 songs. The stage backgrounds are almost entirely static. It's hard to tell if the character animation is good because the game runs so poorly. The sprite work seems OK. It's easy to play at least. If you look at the combo sheet, it's almost entirely quarter circle + any button or double quarter circle + any button for any character. That's good because no one is going to ever spend the time learning this game. And yeah, the first time I tried to play through it, it crashed on me.
A second positive is that the translation is so nonsensical, it's hilarious. It reads like it was run through Google translate from Japanese to English and back 4 times, then put into the game.
> Do any of you have a PVM and is it worth it?
I have a tiny 14" one that I almost never use except sometimes for shooters (mostly because it's on a desk, so easy to put a joystick in front of it). I like to lean back when I play so basically every PVM is just too small. Maybe there's some huge one you can spend $5000 on, if you can even find it. I think @Gypsy has one though.
2017 pvm prices often involve vital organs or sexual favours.
> Do any of you have a PVM and is it worth it?
> I don't but I know it is. Depending on the price you can get.
> Is it worth shipping? Probably not.
I do. Depends on the price like DD says. When you could easily get 20'' w/ RGB for under $200 and in good shape, then it was probably worth it. If you already have or can get a cheap VGA monitor and a good line doubler I'd do that. Certainly more sustainable and cheaper to replace the display when it goes. Probably cheaper initially too.
I played through Super Castlevania IV yesterday. As much as I love the first game, this is probably better. 10/10 for me. It's definitely better than Birdthrow of Blood because the Belmont character is a superman badass.
So far just on the annoyance factor of Death alone, I think I'm inclined to agree. But CV 4 was also significantly easier in ...almost every way, like how you don't have to buy an engagement ring for your jump arcs and how the whip just fixes every problem you have in the game
I thought the difficulty was about right. It's not hard, but once you hit the castle it's not a super breeze like the first half of the game. The checkpoints are crazy forgiving. There's the 4-boss gauntlet in the B block at the end, but you get a checkpoint after every boss (or at least you get one before Death). Some gauntlet!
> Haven't even plugged it in and I'm already 100% on that. Will post pics and details
> tonight, since it's here I may as well fudge around with it a bit I guess...
What gave it away? Also, will you try to get a partial refund from the seller and keep the bootleg or just return it outright for a full refund? Finally, what's the going price for one of these counterfeits when they're actually sold as such? I'm curious if it's even worth keeping as an oddity.
Fake NES Classic is worth less than nothing to me. Box was stuffed way past the usually-tight fit of the real crap, thought it might have been a repack in that case (still not new) but after pulling out the box you notice things immediately. Controller textures are all off and have elevated button areas where there were none. Ports are poorly aligned on the system. Box thickness is off. Serials don't match system and box. All the official text is ALMOST there but something's off. And the box itself has that "...wait, something's off" thing about it, where it's just not as clear and crisp as it's supposed to be. Because it's a photocopy.
I'll post some of the tells, I'm actually planning on editing a short video with some functional stuff that I presume I'll find when I plug it in, but the UI should start lagging if left on too long, and changing languages should have no effect. It should also stretch games out to widescreen dimensions instead of keeping proper aspect ratios like the real deal.

Holy cow! Dungeons & Dragons Collection(Saturn) is an arcade-perfect compilation of two of my favorite video games. At USD $75.00, I honestly have no idea how this hasn't been snatched up by now. If I didn't already own it, I'd be all over it at this price 'cause I know I paid more than that for mine back in the day.

Because it's Gametz. I have no doubt it would sell on eBay for this price the same day (I'd list higher on eBay, tbh). But I don't NEED the money so I'm willing to hear out offers here and perhaps trade.

> You know if this thing does scanlines?
Nah, it's digital. It's really not close to a PVM for 240p content, especially over composite. Of course wear/tear/usage is going to be a factor too. If this has seen daily use since shortly after these came on the market, it could be showing issues.
Too bad I don't have capture equipment or I could really show the difference tonight with some captures.
ok so here is my dilemma, I can get the Sony tv for 50.00 or get a 20" PVM. I would have to trade away a few good NES games Kirby, Metroid, Neir Automata and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for the PVM though.
Of course all areas are different but when I was accumulating displays like they were going out of style I got multiple HD Wegas like the one you linked to or slightly better (sfp models) I got just about all of them for free. I did pay like $10 for one with sfp.
Is it supposed to be a bad game? If so, count me out! Sure, I may enjoy collecting, playing, and sucking the life essence out of video games; but, I will not play a stinker just because it's somehow cool to play a bad video game and get frustrated by it. Fudge that!
It's not even that it was a stinker I think, it had some broken elements and wasn't a FAST Sonic game, and it incorporates some of the last popular aspects of modern game development. I wanted to see if it was more playable than Sonic 06, which is the textbook definition of "So bad that it's still bad"
If I'm ever at the point where I've played through all my truly good video games -- and, at this, rate that'll never happen -- I may look into giving it a shot. But, right now, Valkyrie no Densetsu(NEC PC Engine HuCard) just arrived at my doorstep thanks to the wonderful people at eBay. Let the good times roll!
Sonic '06 had that problem too, so if it's at least like... playable... and has moments where it is fun to play... I think it'll easily overcome Sonic '06. If not, I'll sell all this crap and never look back, NEVER LOOK BACK I SAY, WHO WANTS THIS WII U WITH SONIC BOOM, MARIO MAKER, HYRULE WARRIORS AND MARIO + LUIGI U WITH SMASH 4 AND SPLATOON PREINSTALLED
> I own Sonic 06 but have no recollection of ever buying it. It's as bad as its reputation,
> I assure you.
Then, why do you still keep it?! In addition to a high standard of cosmetic condition, my video game collection has only what I enjoy. If I don't like it, I don't buy it and I definitely don't keep it. While I do own a few select titles that others may not enjoy, i.e. Ultraman(Super Nintendo), I do. I don't have anything that's so-bad-it's-good or for-the-LOLs. If it's a bullcrap video game, don't buy it and don't keep it: simple as that!
I can't speak for anyone else so I'll just speak for myself since I have a lot of games and movies/shows I don't really like. Sometimes I plan to watch/play something, and I just never get to it. Generally I research stuff before I buy it, but I'll also impulse buy movies/anime in particular when they are cheap. Then I find, I don't care for them that much. Then I just don't care enough to list them on eBay to get like $2, just not worth my time. So it sits on my shelf.
I should say, initially they sent me a shipping label with "Postage Due" plastered in the corner, to which my direct response was "Why does it say 'postage due' when it's you who mailed me out fake crap?" at which point about an hour and a half later I had a full refund.
May possibly sell this but right now I'm infatuated with the thought of documenting it and studying it.

The bad news is you beat me to the punch line and that made me look bad. The good news is we had the same joke in mind and that makes me look good. I guess they end up cancelling each other out and I end up looking just like...me.
I was thinking about a possible permanent solution to the scalper problem...like maybe start a group of gamers who will buy one plus (1 or more) to give other legit gamers who missed out on it for MSRP.
RTT peeps(@dunno001, @tonymack21 and couple others) actually are already doing it for LRG releases this past month.

I just saw Porksta is selling DariusBurst at cost. Is the LRG bubble bursting? Only Wonder Boy and Night Trap have been really hard to grab recently I think. Even Ys was gettable if you were there when it went up. If anyone needs me to get an LRG game, I'm always awake and at work when they go up even if I don't always want them.
