new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

How can you even post smb1 and not smb2 on any list and expect anyone to take you seriously?

Yes the gameplay from smb1 is great although the controls are arguably worse than Castlevania in my opinion but there are a few things smb1 lacks compared to most of the rest of the series. 1. Mario (he literally looks like trash in this game) 2. Bowser looks like a joke character in this game compared to other entries in this series 3. The slippery controls! This game sucks on controls compared to the rest of the series where every other game is much tighter.

It's still fun to play but I can't imagine this game being on the top of anyone's all time SMB game list, probably actually at the bottom. It's a game everyone should have and play but it's probably not even in my top 20 or 50 nes games. Well maybe top 50 idk.

Top 3 NES games (subject to hourly change):
SMB1
Legacy of the Wizard
Shatterhand

Back story: I never played Mega Man, Zelda or Metroid as a kid. I've played all the NES entries as an adult but don't have the nostalgia for them that a lot of people do. They're really good games, but I don't get the sense of wonder that a lot of people who played these as kids describe.

I don't know that I could ever be sick of Mario or any classic game series. Certain things that I just don't play I used to get annoyed when people would tell me how awesome they were compared to anything I liked playing. Mostly Call of Duty I'm thinking of.

But other than that if you mean you just don't feel like playing any Mario games yeah I get that totally. I had Mario Maker on 3ds and it got a little old because I felt there were some limitations that totally reduced the ability to create anything you wanted. And it also ruined the replay factor for me. I had such high hopes and I still want to get it again but I wish there were more freedom to create in that game.

I grew up on Mario 1 and 3, it's like the only games I had. So I'm sick to death of them. I was happy to play ANY game not Mario. I guess that sense carried with me into adulthood. I also played Mario World to death, but the "ugh" feeling isn't as strong with World.

As far as my Top 3, I am really not trying to be different.

1. Bucky O'Hare
2. Jackie Chan
3. Rockin' Kats

Probably a mix of nostalgia and love.

The rest of the list: Ninja Gaiden 2, Shadow of the Ninja, Shatterhand, Power Blade, Monsters in My Pocket, TMNT II, Bubble Bobble, Contra, Super C....

I'm actually not a huge fan of the old Mega Mans, I need to CHARGE!

Shatterhand is ridiculously good on so many levels. Definitely a game that's collection worthy for an NES gamer. My understanding of the library is constantly growing but as of right now I would probably list my top 3 as:

Contra
Felix the Cat
Monster in my Pocket

Now granted I've actually beaten these games and run through them a bunch.

I'd throw honorable mention out there to Tecmo Super Bowl and Little Sampson (though I only beat little sampson using save states).

My other hipster pick would be Golgo 13. Down the list a bit is probably Legends of Owlia. In between those it's Zelda 2, Mega Man 2, Chip n Dale, Castlevania, Vice, Tecmo Super Bowl, Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

It's just more replayable to me. On every NES emulator I've ever played in a Javascript web browser in computer lab or put on a hacked PSP or Xbox, Super Mario Bros is probably the first game I played. I bought it twice on Virtual Console. You can play through the game in like 20 minutes and it's fun every single time.

SMB2 is great, but it's kind of long and there's boss fights, throwing vegetables, and jumping in vases to get keys and whatnot. SMB1 is nothing but run, jump, occasionally pewt pewt some fireballs. If I have the time to play through a longer, more complex Mario platformer, SMB3 unfortunately beats out SMB2 basically every time.

Waiting for other regular RTT peeps to post theirs.

Weird some people can't get into NES. Even if you didn't grow up on it, I know a ton of people who love it.

I guess in a way I can understand, because I can't play anything pre-NES. It's just isn't appealing to me.

NES is like the perfect mixture of nostalgia and good times. And also surprisingly high quantity of games I've never played,

Legacy of the Wizard is dope. Had and beat it awhile back. It might be in my actual top 3 (along with SMB 3 of course). I really don't like most NES games at all, so when I actually like and finish game, it's probably excellent. As for the third one, maybe a Megaman game, those were all very well designed and intuitive which I really appreciate.

Legacy of the Wizard, more than ANY other NES game, gives me the warm and fuzzies when I think about it. That's why it's always on my favorite games list even though it confuses everyone. It's also the first game I mapped out on paper in its entirety.

I thought I was the only person who got this invested in certain games. I literally had to write out every item drop and stat on that psp mini game rpg to actually finish it. There wasn't enough concrete info on the Internet to actually pass this game without studying it myself. I literally had to catalog that game myself.

But, it was a labor of love. I've never gotten too bored of the challenge it presents even with everything I know about it.
