new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

Oh crap I said retro when I meant vintage. I committed the biggest faux pas in this entire thread.

Ugh that video was sooo annoying though. Not really funny at all.

The game in the flower world looked pretty cool ..... But that guy wouldn't stop pretending he was hilarious for even ten seconds for me to enjoy it. Now idk if I even want this game because it will always remind me of this miserable person trying to make everyone else miserable.

I saw a Sega CD Model 2 w/Jurassic Park at goodwill today it was marked $99, but half price today so $50. That still seems high to me, but I don't follow that system. Is that a good price?

They also had a DS with 4 decent games for $75, a gamegear for $50, another portable system in a case for $50.

To be perfectly clear, I like some of those games quite a bit, my complaint was that they're all a similar style of game, long open world games with sidequests etc (except Uncharted, that's my bad).

I like pretty much all of AVGN videos. The worst that comes of it is that people start repeating what he says like it's actual fact when he reviews good stuff like MC Kids, Friday the 13th, or Sega CD. He just plays a character who hates everything and gets too-annoyed by minor BS.

I know he's playing a character. I just cannot sit through a video listening to that character. It reminds me of beating people in Mortal Kombat and having them rage quit and send me a bunch of curse laden voicemails. Telling me how gay I am or some racial slurs etc etc. This is how lots of douchebags act now. The things people say on the Internet would lead to broken faces in the real. I just don't know why this type of nonsense is so normal now. I've gotten into it with a lot of these people and it's not fun since it ruins what should be fun as well, however there is nothing that can be done about it. Other than (at least for me) never watching this guys videos again.

I don't even honestly think the game sucked but he ruined it for me. If that was the point then ..... What is the point in that?

Ya I realize that's what you meant, those tend to be my favorites, huge sprawling rpgs with very rich characters, worlds and stories, so those were the first ones I named

Gamegear, maybe. Depends on if the caps are good. Sega cd for 50 bucks is good though, if it works.

Depends on your intentions. If you are looking to flip I would not bother. If you want the system to have it, that's a pretty good price (at $50).

Here is what I have:
Super Metroid Unauthorized Game Secrets - The Uncensored, Fully Independent Edition => Maybe there are nudie pics of Samus Aran...then again maybe there aren't
Pokemon Official Nintendo Player's Guide
Wizard's Guide To Pokemon
Onimusha 2 - Prima's Official Strategy Guide

I also have a Dead or Alive 2 poster from EGM that has bios of all of the characters and Kasumi, Lei Fong and Tina in swimsuits (judgement free zone)

Also in the paper category I have a bunch of random brochures and video games books as well as a bunch of PSM magazines. I can get a list if anyone is into that sort of thing.

I never use strategy guides how they are supposed to be used anyways but have you talked to @SirConnery about some of those items? I think he likes older gaming promotional flyers and things like that.

Banjo Kazooie is one of my favorite games. Those first 5-6 levels I've played many times, but never beat it. But I am on the 2nd to last stage, Rusty Bucket bay. And have died a few times. And the thing that kills it for me is you lose all Note progress each time you die. So I have to run around the entire stage again. Perhaps that's why I never beat it haha. And I look at videos of the final stage and it seems to be a ton of very hard platforms high up in the air. It looks more frustrating than fun.

Maybe an hour. The timer is hard in NG3. I died multiple times due to time outs and still can't beat Act 7 without taking an intentional death due to time. You can't really take your time, you have to learn running paths. Although watching you play NG1 I think you already do that.

You're correct, it's a horse racing simulator. Guess on whether it's pricey because it's an awesome horse racing simulator or just because it's just rare raspberry Actually I loved Derby Owner's Club in arcades ( Sega Sega Sega ), so I'm semi-excited to play it. We sure don't get many horse games here besides the little girl stuff.

It's a rare game on the SEGA Saturn, so clearly it's worth top dollar. Never mind the fact that it's rare because nobody really wanted to buy a game about horse racing.

I haven't played either of those, but would probably love them. I'm not some huge horse fan, but I love gambling so the genre is really appealing to me. And yeah I'm trying to get a US Sega Saturn set. I'm blowing money on obscure stuff because I think most of it is only going to get pricier and harder to find over time. I'll probably get the bug and get 3DO crazy at some point because I'm worried about never seeing some nonsense like Robinson's Requiem again at a reasonable price. I feel like SNES and Genesis games will always be there for me if I ever decide I want them.

I think the $180 doesn't include this mediocre controller though right?

I traded a bunch of crappy DS Pokemon games to GS for this Shield TV, so far it performs great.

How are they for pew pews? I'm a forever scrub, and quite terrible at most fighters, but still like to play them.

There is a Hori RAP V for sale on newegg for 150 with the meh MVCI for sale in my preferred color of white, but space and wife concerns.

sick, i was going to say i did some more research today and was gonna come tell you that instead of the drone i was just gonna bite the bullet on the RAP 4, everything says its as good as the qanba obsidians pretty much unless you are the very highest level tourney player, and was the only stick you'd ever need.
amazon hasnt had them in stock but this deal is sick! id def say for this kind of deal to return the mini and get this, its getting mvci for free.

it looks like only the black may come with the game, but thats the one i want anyway

i havent been very impressed with mvci but its not the worst. its no mvc2.

are you newegg premier to get the free shipping?

this will end just as a i get paid again....maybe close...

Well nobody cares about those silly old characters anymore, according to capcom. It's all about the Avengers and The Guardians now. They're so right though, but i wonder why capcom isn't doing the same to their roster, i mean instead of filling the cast with great characters like Leon, and Ken, and... uh, Ace Attorney, they have Mega Man X. Who even knows what the fudge a Mega Man X is anymore? Or a Mike Haggar, or Morgan, and white haired dante, who looks nothing like the modern one.

The only way to play shmups is on an arcade stick. I haven't fired one up with a regular controller in forever. Much better precision movement is the key.

So the xRGB mini is nice. But the quality increase is so marginal compared to my DVDO set up. I don't think it's worth the effort.

I even got a cable to make it work and all.

It's also quite limited compared to the DVDO machines(less HDMI, only 1 S-video, and the most painful of all, no YPbPr)

I like it a bit more versatile.

Thanks for the input. Yeah I feel once you have something that can handle a Scart connection it wason't going to be huge. The main thing for me with OSSC is I'd be happy with DVDO it just didn't work with my OLED so I hope OSSC does. Plus I look forward to trying the line tripler and scanline options with it.

I am getting buried in Japanese electronics, so here it goes, still considering but:

xRGB mini Framemeister w/box, remote, JP-21 cable, whatever else that came in the box.

I will also throw in EuroSCART to Framemeister XRGB mini passive adapter cable, which enables your good old regular scart cables to work, it cost me $20.

$350 shipped.

I'm deciding to keep the FM or the VP30, i picked up a spare DVDO Duo earlier last month so I'm thinking Framemeister for games and the Duo as a all purpose machine thats also a back up if needed.

Duo performs similarly to a VP30 with card, and it has a multitude of extra options like 8 HDMI input and 2x output, which works perfectly with my desktop and TV set up without additional equipment. I realized with each extra piece of (switch, passthrough, cable. Or what have you), there's an additional layer of problems with this type of old electronics.

Yeah. I get what people say when they say this is the easiest Ninja Gaiden. After you beat it, you've memorized every last thing by necessity, so it's no problem. The hard part is putting in the time to get to that point. The final bosses aren't too bad either. Jaquio is still a dog.

I've never owned any of hte DVDO products so I can't weigh in directly but my gut feeling would be usage hours on the components of an older piece of equipment vs a new one. I'm sure the build quality was probably pretty good on those iScan products but sometimes playing the odds can be deciding factor.

I chose the FM mainly because I only run gaming equipment through it, specifically SCART connections. Don't use the other inputs at all on my unit so take that for what it's worth.

The oem power supplies do go bad. Pretty sure I'm finally dealing with that now with my 30. I don't think any other issues are terribly common but this is a good point. DVDO products were pretty high end at time of release and lots of them have probably seen heavy use in home theater set-ups.

In this scenario I would definitely recommend the framemeister. Assuming cost is not an issue. I do think as the OSSC keeps receiving updates and has the kinks worked out it could easily become the top device.

I'm eyeing a couple different processor options for the future. But for now I'm going to wait and enjoy these older high end projectors that should be here next week.

Cool, I'ma grab that Arrow Flash. Genesis manuals kill me. I want a couple more of those but the price difference between CB and CIB on Genesis is maybe the biggest of any system, at least cart based ones.

100% agree on this. The OSSC has a much brighter future in my opinion, especially now that we have 2 good versions of it out there. With newer TV's bringing back support for older resolutions, the current limitations of that device are dwindling. While FM wins in wider compatibility right now I think we'll see that change...probably even in the shorter term.

The games are semi desirable those prices are not. Usually I think his prices are fair in his posts ..... Not on this one.

Also if I'm going to buy shining force more then just cart only it's going to be cib especially for those prices.

Hope you get a better price on that Arrow Flash @DefaultGen, I loved that shooter probably better than the most popular ones but the price ..... Idk.

How much does it cost to emulate again guys? (Totally not advocating that and I DO really love Arrow Flash and Shining Force 1&2 but that's only if I have a lot of extra money and nothing else I want)

And they didn't really improve it until it moved to the snes. Like they could have made improvements on the second or third installments and I know they made some very minor moves on the third but good god. Castlevania is as iconic a franchise as video games have ever seen and a staple franchise on the nes but what seperates castlevania from truely classic nes titles that still hold up today are the controls. You look at a game like contra that's essentially perfect from top to bottom and castlevania can't even come close to comparing. When you die in contra 98.2% of the time it's your own fault. Like 1.8% of the time you'll die because the game broke pattern or a guy that usually doesn't come running on screen in some location decides to run through. The only time this isn't true is when you've beaten the game and you're wrapping around again and even then there's some BS as it gets harder but the controls are flawless.

Hd+ is cheaper than VP20/30. Because it doesnt have HDMI out and HDMI in. VP20 and 30 are about the same with very minor nonperformance differences, 30 has an extra HDMI in, and VGA out.

Duo and VP50(pro) are about the same in term of pricing but does slightly different functions. @Gypsy can prob elaborate. I've never had the VP50 Pro.

My 50pro is a weird rebadge. I think it even has some slightly different firmware features so I wouldn't judge stock 50pros based on it. This is something to keep in mind in general, there are a lot of weird rebadges. If this is a big concern look over pictures carefully, you'll be able to tell as the branding will be different.

Duo/50pro/Edge
50/Edge Green/20/30 w/ card
HD+/20/30 w/o card

Obviously there are differences unit to unit but I'd say my groupings are close enough. I haven't had them all to test random things that no one here cares about. Also like @Lunar said inputs and outputs are different so check for your needs there. In terms of what it can output, the 30 is extremely versatile. The 50/50pro should be as well, but I haven't messed with it personally. That VGA out can also be YPBPR out.

Some people don't like the 480p handling of 50/50pro/duo/edge. Ermagerd ringing or something. The solution is to pair with an OSSC.

Ok I have a Extron crosspoint for my component systems then hooked up to my vp20 then to my Visio TV. SNES, NEO GEO CD, Sega tron, PS2

Composite to a crapty 4 port switcher then to same said tv. Pc engine/ CD + IFU , Dreamcast , GameCube/N64.

HDMI manual switching (have 3 slots) Between PS4 , PS3 , Chromecast, RetroUSB AVS, Comcast cable box,360 and Alienware Alpha.

Goal is to do away with composite if possible. Also may want to move more modern systems to a PC monitor.

You know I almost want to agree with you guys but after playing it and relearning the first Castlevania the controls are kinda perfect for the game. It would be nice not to be committed to a jump after making it but idk when you know how it controls and especially after getting down the timing of enemy attacks Castlevania 1 on nes at least is really good. I still like it better than Ninja Gaiden and it is still more difficult as well even when you know what you're doing on both.

It's just a steep learning curve. SMB 1 on the other hand controls much worse than any other SMB game I've played. That is pretty bad even compared to Castlevania, still fun but I definitely find myself fighting the controls in SMB 1 way more than Castlevania 1 or Ninja Gaiden 1 and it's a way easier game except for those slippery af controls.

You like the controls for Castlevania because you love the game and that's the only controls they ever had. Trust me, they're terrible, and the game is good DESPITE that. Simon moves so slowly and sluggishly, it really makes it difficult to learn properly. I also suspect that's why it's harder than Ninja Gaiden, it just controls a lot worse. You can prefer Castlevania to Ninja Gaiden obviously, plenty of people do and it's subjective, but I can guarantee it's not because of the controls.

And you're just completely incorrect about SMB1. Like totally wrong. It might control worse than subsequent SMB games, which games makes sense since they're improving on the product, but anyone can pick up SMB1 and immediately start playing. There's an intuitiveness to the controls that CV1 just does not have. Again, preferering CV1 to SMB1 is totally fine, but the controls are not better. Not by a long shot.

We can totally agree to disagree here but the platforming element in SMB 1 is all that it has to draw you in. Cheap deaths occur in SMB 1 due to the slippery nature of these Controls. It's a much easier game but it's not tight enough to be compared to either of the other two games. I get that everyone wants games on easy mode nowadays and that's not my beef with SMB 1 it's an EASY game compared to most nes classics but the controls are just a struggle. And yes Simon does seem to move slowly but again it's perfect for the game. There is a stop and fight mentality in Castlevania. You can kill enemies with your whip or holy water coming down from a jump too but it takes timing and practice. I'm sure if I spent as much time this year retraining on SMB 1 as I did with Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden (I played ninja Gaiden again this morning now I'm quitting after my first random jump deaths in stage 2-1and 2-2 lol) but now that I'm used to Castlevanias style and how to effectively control him it's actually really good. I don't "mind" the controls as much in Castlevania as SMB 1. I'm not saying it's a terrible game it's just never going to be as good again as SMB 2 or 3 or even SMW. The first two nes games I had in order were Ice Climber and Super Mario Bros. 1. I love them both still but I've played a ton of platformers and I don't even have SMB 1 over snes Castlevania so idk what to tell you. It's not just my preference it's hard to go back to those controls after playing way better SMB games.

If you've played Mario maker than you know that Nintendo decided NOT to include those sloppy SMB 1 controls anywhere into that game despite having a ton of SMB 1 game pieces backgrounds and music from that game.

SMB 1 controls almost as sloppily as an ice stage from any other SMB game. The differences between nes Castlevanias and anything after is not nearly the huge disparity in controls.
It's STILL fun despite that but as soon as SMB 2 was released it just wasn't as good anymore. And SMB 3 took what was special and unique in SMB 1 improved it and was way better looking and about 10x as fun and interesting.

I still wanna beat SMB 1 this year without warp zones and 1up resets though. Doesn't mean it's going to be a lot of fun trying but still.

And Castlevania doesn't have cheap deaths only because of the controls?

Yes, you seem to be focused on comparing SMB1 to SMB2 and 3. The sequels are obviously better. They had better chips to work with, and the developers had more experience developing for the NES. They should be better.

Simon doesn't seem to move slowly, he does move slowly. The reason you need to kill every single enemy is because you can't outrun any of them. It's borderline tedious in spots.

The point of controls isn't to have to learn to wrangle them and get used to them. Good games have intuitive controls. You pick it up, and you play. CV1 is not that type of game. The controls are not good. It's something you get used to (I did get used to it after playing for about an hour, and it's not that big of an issue over time, but it's not good). It's what you're used to. It's perfect for the game because you like the game. But they just are not good controls, I don't know what to tell you. You're a Castlevania fan (for good reason, it's a good series) so of course you're going to defend it. But the words you are typing aren't accurate, in any way really.

Comparing the controls in Ice Climber to SMB1? Low blow dude. Go back and play Ice Climber again. The jumping in that game is horrendous.

Obviously, they did improve on the controls. I'm not arguing that. But they also never went back to NES Castlevania controls after moving on from the NES either.

The controls in SMB1 aren't that slippery. The controls in CV1 are just that stiff. Also, the difference between the NES Castlevanias and Super Castlevania IV is ENORMOUS. I have no idea what you're talking about there. I agree the SMB 3 or SMW controls better than SMB1, but the disparity is EVEN BIGGER for the CV games. Also yeah, SMB1 is a very simple game and the next SMB games are a lot more sophisticated, but that's not what we were talking about at all.

Mario controls aren't slippery. It's only when he runs fast, it takes a half a second for him to stop, which makes sense in terms of velocity and inertia(?), or maybe volition....according to George Constanza, so it seems like its slippery. Also, Mario games are really good with gravity, you jump higher when you run vs jump in place.

I think CV is both sluggish and clunky.

SMB 1 is sloppy and slippery. I played it a ton a few months ago and I also recently had Mario Maker on 3ds. It also takes a second to get going in SMB 1 which leads to agonizing timing issues as well.

And while I was replaying SMB 1 again earlier this year I actually was thinking about physics and all that jazz as well especially the inertia and forward momentum you were referring to.

I still much prefer Castlevania for the gameplay as well. I know it's hard to fathom and I do love the first Mario but the controls are just frustrating also I still think Mario looks like garbage in SMB 1. Castlevania was just as blurry but it was prettier more like art 😊

@sharif yes they made it so you couldn't just jump over every enemy but you'd be surprised how many characters you never even need to interact with in Castlevania too. I just think every level was really well thought out and balanced in this game. I actually didn't mind playing other newer versions of Castlevania that went back to controls closer to these either.

Ultimately I think it's a chore to master the controls on either Castlevania 1 or SMB 1. I really don't think the improvements were that big in the Snes game other than graphics "in some ways" it's still Castlevania and it's still old school and 2d but it's a little more kind of just blah to me. Maybe that's why the controls don't impress me because I thought the game could've been way better, like 1 and 3 on Nes controls be damned.

Considering it took me more than an hour to get comfortable with the control in CV1 as an adult and 3 minutes to get comfortable with the control in SMB1 as a 5 year old, I very very highly disagree that both games take getting used to. They really aren't at that slippery.

All these games have great controls love If my jumps and air control (or lack thereof) are 100% predictable and the game levels are built around whatever limitations it has, that's good controls to me. I'll take the pixel precision of stiff old games over the "Where does the platform end?" 2.5D perspective platforming of some 16 bit games. That stuff is more frustrating to me.

I was playing on one of my nes systems (before it stopped working) not a Retron).

The main difference between SMB 1 and every other SMB to me is more the running and inertia and building up momentum (which is faster in later games) than almost anything else. That's what I find the most annoying. I have to remember all these little spots and breaks where I can't just zip through a level. I was having the most problems with the moving platforms. In a later mario game I wouldn't be dying because I hadn't been running far enough to catch enough speed to make a proper jump. I will play some SMB later today I just find the controls annoying and they greatly detract from my enjoyment of the game.

I love nes 2d platformers 😍

Even though I'm apparently not totally happy with the controls of one doesn't mean I don't love it too.

Snes and Genesis platformers while still great and usually better looking aren't always as tight and the levels aren't as great.

Super Mario Bros. 1 is the game I go to for input delay calibration in NES emulators. I think that speaks volumes for the control's precision.

Okay so I played a little SMB 1 again and it's the same thing as it was a few months ago. I got to level 4-2 before I died the first time and I finally died completely on 5-3. Luckily for me I got through 4-1 (Latiku) without dying and 4-3 without dying but mix in Bullet Bills with randomly placed paratroopers in spots where you need precisely timed jumps with running starts and that's it for me lol.
Maybe I'll play again later tonight after I do some chores but yes I can safely say the controls in that game are more frustrating (to me) than Castlevania or Ninja Gaiden. I spent so many hours playing SMB 1 as a kid no wonder I used to get so annoyed. I guess it just takes a lot of practice. I may play Adventure Island 2 just to see if it's better than SMB 1 since they are way more similar than SMB to the other platformers I've been playing lately.

I don't know I would probably play Punchout!! For precision timing but I'm kinda old school. Or if I had the first Adventure Island maybe that.

I'll play all of these nes games eventually I've got somewhere between 30 and 100 carts. I'm hoping to not ignore any of them (except maybe foxs Peter Pan and the Pirates).

Ugh so the princess tricked me into pressing button B.

Anyways it was fun and frustrating af but I finished it going through every level of course I had to use the 1-up trick to do it but at least I got it done today. 3rd retro NES classic I've beaten this year.

I still wanted to do it the old fashioned way but at least I didn't skip any stages this time like I used to when I was a kid after the first time I beat it.

Maybe I'll still pass it honestly later this year. But yeah it took a little less than an hour but I still have other things to do.

Luigi was intentionally made floaty and slippery in SMB2J/Lost Levels. You can make some pretty hard jumps once you get the hang of it.

Luigi jumps higher and takes a little longer to stop after a run in the All-Stars Lost Levels too. My guide and experience playing through it verify this (I have beaten Lost Levels exactly once). It's a little bit easier to get through with Luigi's higher jumps, but the drawback is that it's easy to fall off smaller platforms.

Oh also @sharif I wasn't comparing controls in Ice Climber to any other game. The Nintendo kiosks at the mall had these little nes playing stations (or playstations for short lol) that had a few different games you could play including SMB and Ice Climber as a kid I chose Ice Climber over every other game there. I still want to get it again too. It was one of my favorites. But idk if I ever beat it.

Are any of you guys running PC engine flash carts? I'm playing a pretty neat game called City Hunter.. but there's far too much text. Can any of them run patches to translate via USB?

Unrelatedly whoever designed this particular PC engine game knew how to make it fun to travel up staircases not like those castlevania dicks. I played III Drac's Curse for a litte tonight and it was better than I remembered thinking it was. A faithful follow up to the original. Controls and all.

I was playing Adventure Island 2 today (the copy I bought from you actually) and I didn't think it was slippery at all. And the dinosaurs do add some fun to it for sure. And then I got to an underwater level on the second island and the difficulty seemed suddenly like I was playing Donkey Kong Country 2 😐

But I really like the backgrounds and the enemies in Adventure Island games so I'm sure I'll play it lots more too.

Adventure Island series needed a PW system for sure. Really my only complaint with the series is that the games are almost too long one single run through to beat in a single sitting. It can be done but it's unnecessarily arduous and lengthy.

Which reminds me I have to ship my other copy of AI 2 this week. I was supposed to trade it months ago and couldn't find it and last week it popped up in shoebox of all places. Dude I was originally set to trade it too I guess saw it pop up on newly listed games or my post here and hit me up. Goes to show you that good things come to those who wait.

Every so often I will make my rounds to a few local used game stores and they have guides AT LEAST 50% off. These are usually traded in with the games but for whatever reason the stores don't keep them together. I'm OK with that, especially when it allows me to get something like the old Nintendo Power Super Mario All-Stars guide for about 6 bucks.

It's nearing the end of the month. I only finished Castlevania but got sidetracked with other games.

I think a few peeps were able to play a few more in the series. I think Ninja Gaiden is the ultimate benchmark on what NES games will be compared to for me. CV prob would have been rated higher if I didn't play NG right before.

@DefaultGen, let's roll out with a few options for October, the one with the most yes gets the nod for October's Let's Play Together.

I bought 5 Saturn games from Lukie and they call came in decent shape (no broken hinges at least). Throwing that out there because despite usually having Sega games at 2-3x market value, they occasionally have a decent price for some reason. They were the only place I could find that had Olympic Soccer in stock besides FF who wanted $100 for it dead face

Is Super GnG different? I haven't played either, I only had bad Genesis games as a kid. Edit: Apparently Super GNG is a sequel. I had no idea. You need more descriptive names sometimes Super Nintendo.

Close race so far. If you just said "let's play GNG" I didn't count you, only if you did a 3-2-1.

couple of these games have a rep for being pretty hard, I never finished MimP or ghouls and ghosts as a kid I don't think. I am pretty sure we beat Friday the 13th, I remember how super eerie that game was playing it at night with my older cousins and constantly trying to keep up with where Jason was.

I might try and play this time, could be fun. i'll give some love to the nostalgia of those Ft13th memories, though its probably one of the weaker games on here? I never played most of these lol.

Lol I felt the same way except about I would have thought Ninja Gaiden was pretty perfect except for playing Castlevania at the same times.

The only drawbacks about Ninja Gaiden are the enemies, they are just kinda weird for a ninja game. I love almost every aspect of it, it does have weird little glitches that it feels like the Tecmo Team worked into the gameplay somehow. But the main thing about Ninja Gaiden is it is FUN!

Ummm what?!? Horror is Halloween and vice versa!

If you want Silent Hill you vote for it like a 3 though my Fatal Frame 25 one was just because I mentioned it before so this time it was more like a joke.

The votes are kinda all over the place anyways.

Edit:

Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm and Magic Mountain always have horror themed Halloween events every year.

One year at Universal I think it was they had Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nightmare on Elm Street themed horror mazes with some others as well. It's always fun to have scary Halloween stuff for adults 😊

200+, but those generally need (or soon will need) some work done unless it's explicitly stated caps are new. Duos use some leaky-ass capacitors, which can fudge up the main board if left untreated, or more noticeably produce quiet audio issues.

Duo-R/RX both use much better parts and are generally much more agreeable, but kinda ugly. While those run $300-350, they get my seal of approval for being good work horses if you get them in good shape. About the worst that happens with those is having to re-solder the I/O port which takes about half a fudging second.

That looks cool as hell! I think the heavy price tag is because it's looking like something that you can do a lot more than just retro gaming with. I think maybe their idea is to get other popular titles on their system as well. And then surf the Internet and probably other tv related stuff too.

At least that's what it LOOKS like. I'm wondering why there aren't even pics of at least a prototype keyboard or controller, maybe they just wanna build up suspense and have something new to show everytime they sent out a new announcement? Idk but I have high hopes that it will be very cool.

I can get a Switch for $300. I'm not paying $300 for an Atari/emulation box that runs Linux. That's asinine. It's counterintuitive. You can emulate Atari games with a fudging potato inside a metal box with a VGA cord plugged into it. Or if you like a wood finish, put the potato inside your fudging bread box!

extremely predatory, especially when much cheaper things that can do it, like potatoes, the shield tv can be had for half that or 180 new, and can run a lot of stuff and is the sickest streaming box ever.

maybe this thing is going to have some other functionality that hasn't been revealed, I had seen one article that even eluded to original content, though I am skeptical about that.

Lol I'm understanding WHAT you're saying but you do realize that it's not JUST an Atari 2600 emulator right?

You guys swear they aren't going to have brand new content that you can't get anywhere else? Please. I was just mentioning that because it's called name and brand recognition.

Unless I'm mistaken I could see them totally rolling out a newer version of tempest 2000, and by mistaken I mean that somebody else completely owns the IP and they are totally a$$ed out on it. Do you guys really think there won't be totally new versions of classic games right alongside the originals? Why else do they need all the capabilities and 300 dollars worth of tech in that tiny box if they don't have some decent games that THEY own that they can unveil and get people excited for a brand new Atari system?

Also comparing a switch to this is nonsense. The main thing they have in common is they are both video game systems. There isn't a lot that we know about this other than some specs and they are planning on releasing classic games installed on it.

I'm hopeful for a lot of reasons with this. Not the least of which is that nothing is concrete yet which means they can be testing the waters with all these little mailers to gauge feedback and see where they need to take this idea so they can figure out what their customers want and need in a new system.

I get why you guys would be skeptical but I think they are trying to doing it right with this system. So that's why I'm hopeful. That and I've played lots of Atari games over the years that I've loved.

i read an article today blasting this thing, its the price of a ps4 or switch for petes sake, this thing better be able to do A LOT. the article stated it could run pc games that a current mid range could run, but not triple A titles that need real power. so minecraft-ish things maybe. they compared it to the shield, but said the shield was more powerful and less expensive. i dunno this looks like insta-fail unless there is a killer app they haven't revealed. also the article mentioned content you had purchased on other devices or services, not sure what that could be other than google play or amazon app store or something, as it couldn't be psn/xbl. maybe steam?

I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong, I just have serious doubts that they are just releasing a tv compatible pc that plays 2600 games and that's all.

Maybe it's also an Atari Roku or something else less desirable and we'd both be kinda right. I just hope they have bigger plans for a new Atari system is all.

Okay I LOVE Nintendo but screw them and how they've been handling things lately. They released the Switch with 8 launch games was it? Wtf is that? And they intentionally underproduced the system to force their customers to buy it from scalpers just so they could use that for fake demand when they finally produced it for real. Half the guys on here who had a Switch sold it because it was worth too much to justify keeping.

And I still totally want a Switch but Nintendo is currently by far the shadiest company in gaming right now. I want Mario and I want Zelda but I also want to buy from a company who doesn't pull this garbage on their customers every damn time.

As far as the Atari-Box goes I'm not saying this thing will have anything revolutionary but at least there is still hope since they haven't revealed everything yet.

The update says it's shipping with "tons of classic Atari retro games". If they're making retro games, it must be full of new games imitating the style of the recent past.

This is partially why I hoard as opposed to selling or trading in a public forum like Facebook or craigslist. Then whenever someone here wants some random og Xbox game or something else totally obscure I just might have it.

But people everywhere are just jerks. I tried to sell some ps4 games at a local retro game shop which is still a totally cool place but I was offered a bundle deal of 30 dollars. There was 10 games lol. He went on to say that they specialize in retro games and that's why the lowball offer. Like I've mentioned here before I will just walk away from any bad deal. I don't NEED to buy or sell anything I just thought maybe I will trade these games for some money and buy a nes or Genesis game while I'm there.

He asked me after I told him no that's okay "why what were you thinking of getting for them?" In my head I was thinking something fair for both parties lol. But I said the other thing I was also thinking instead your price is your price I know you have a business to run but I can get a lot more on Craigslist. And he said "yeah if you cut out the middle man of course"

Ugh, it doesn't pay to be nice. Even at 50 I probably would have thought it was low but I might have gone for it knowing they be instantly resold for 10 to 30 bucks each (two of them were sealed and things aren't cheap in Los Angeles county)

I kinda wanna make some Facebook or Craigslist trades but your post reminded me why that's a terrible idea. Having people show up to the house and then talk trash to me on Facebook possibly after? No thanks.

On the iPhone Facebook app there's an extra option for marketplace and it's really cool but it's also kinda idk scary I guess. I traded some Disney movies once with some cash to a girl who looked like a Chola on her profile but was pretty chill in the real I got a bunch of cool gangsta movies from the 90s on DVD 😊

Oh and I got some cheap Walmart furniture from another girl more recently both actually great experiences but I kinda Facebook stalked them a little first before I met up with either of them.

Actually that's everywhere but a lot of those people are posting prices that they aren't married to. They actually have much lower prices in mind for two very good reasons 1. It weeds out people who only want it because it's cheap and they are usually time wasters and 2. They know they will be haggled down from their initial price anyways so they HAVE to start higher so that the buyer can steal feel all smug about their negotiating skills and so the seller still gets nearer to what they wanted in the first place.

If someone says their price is set than yeah they just are stupid because it will never sell. There's a guy on Palmdale Facebook marketplace selling a pile of disc only ps2 games for 60 with a firm price because they are worth more than that.

Really WTF?

if you decide to get rid of it I know a guy :P :P

@PlayYing the hayabusa buttons are pretty decent, sure nothing beats sanwa sure, but they are solid, and hi level players have said they are the only thing other than sanwa's they would use, these are the style you'd see in Japanese arcades so maybe they used to them and that's why they like them.

One of the employees at the game store I went to at lunch today asked if I had Everyone's Golf yet. I told the guy I don't pay $60 for $5 games.

its not terrible, but I don't find myself picking it up much. beyond the first day I messed with it I haven't been back to it.

it was only 31.99 with prime, so not terrible, it would be a pretty fun multiplayer title I think, for single player and golf in general though I would rather play tiger/golf club

Had a good laugh. This is the place I dump all my bulk at, so they pretty much love me even when I'm prickly.

That's pretty cool, the guy I talked to yesterday probably thought he lost me as a customer actually.

But with that glass case full of nes games and the one right next to it half full of snes and N64 games I know I'm going to be back there again. Plus I might have to buy retro games of the month to play from there 😍

Btw do they at least pay you fairly for your excess bulk or is it $3.00 each for your sealed ps4 games like I got yesterday?

Full US sets are so boring. How many sets do you have now @DefaultGen?

I should start a full Japanese set of...something...hmmm.

Posted a bunch of games, cheapo's and some decent ones over in Classified Marketplace. Around 300 games or so in a giant post. Mostly for sale but will take trades for anything on my wantlist or maybe for shmups I don't already own.

@FrictionPin nice lemme go check that out. 😊

@Lunar the top one is the brightest nicest clearest. Are they all the same or something? And that was just a trick question?

I think #3 is clearly the worst. It's obvious if you look at the mountain peak in the background, it's much blurrier. #1 looks better than #2. #2 has a little more color bleed between pixels. Look at the bottom of the closest enemy. It's a better defined line in #1 and slightly redder under #2.

I think they were all taken at the same pause point but the bottom screen for sure is different it says pause right on it. And the top one does seem the brightest and clearest idk.

It's hard to tell in those shots but I'd probably lean towards the middle one. The first one is over saturated and bright, washing out the background colors, the bottom one is too smoothed out for my taste.

US sets are fun. Every good console in Japan has like 400 visual novels and RPGs I can't play.

Go for a Japanese Vita full set. I've been a full set collector in many things over the years but for whatever reason its never appealed to me in video game collecting for whatever reason. I will say I'm tempted to do a US Switch set though down the road. The small cases and cartridge media make it an actual possibility but not at retail prices this new in the lifespan.

The aspect ratio of #1 is different in addition to the brightness. Lunar, I think you're asking us to critique your settings as much as the mystery hardware behind it raspberry

Alright, here's the reveal.

#1 - XRGB Mini Framemeister (Firebrand profile - 25GEN5XU)

#2 - DVDO VP30 w/ABT-102 Card (Game Mode 1) - This is probably the closest to FM

#3 - DVDO VP30 w/ABT-102 Card (Game Mode 2) - Smoothed edges
