new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

So I have a brand:::PlayStation 4 Just Cause 3 Collector's Edition and brand:::Microsoft Xbox One Halo 5 Collector's Edition. Both are huge boxes...I think they sell for dirty cheap.

I think I am going to open the boxes, flatten them. Play and touch the figures all to my liking.

Right? Instead of trying to get rid of them on eBay for days and have someone lowball me and then end up with like $10-$20 in pocket?

Everything mass produced since the 00s will be worthless forever or until we're old men. Open your games, enjoy the stuff.

Pretty much. Just when Class of Heroes 2G looked destined to be hilariously priced it got re-issued. Edit: And that's not even a mass produced game. Anything with a huge run will probably be worthless until the planet consumes us.

I think actually wanting to play makes a huge difference. Like I am looking forward to try to beat NGIII again on Friday probably.

I have been playing a few minutes of Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero a day, and just not that into it. It's got all the good stuff, cool characters, precise control, witty dialogue, and the gameplay looks fun too.

I don't know, it's just not the right time I guess.

To be fair, I had the NG set for like a year and didn't play at all and sold it.

yea, as soon as it feels like I am forcing myself to play, it's done. There are enough games that I can just move on to the next.

I am trying to pick and choose wisely for my next portable game.

I am afraid to start a Pokemon or Yokai Watch, fearing it will take too long and wear me out.

That's where I'm at with it too. Games either grab me by the balls or they don't. Like when I start a Yakuza game, I don't want to play anything else at all until I'm done.

I want to play Silver Case now, never heard of it before. Looks like the PC version is better received than the PS4 version, but it makes sense that a game of this type would control better on PC.

So I watched some of @sharif stream last night and was wondering if those capture cards or whatever you guys use make the games look that good on your TVs? Or does it just look good viewing it on the PC. Also I never heard of the Super Game Boy 2, I have the first one.
sharif
GameTZ Subscriber Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
10-Oct(#190)
The capture card just takes input and pipes it to your PC for the stream. The quality is going to be whatever I see on TV. In this case, I have an RGB modded NES and a regular SNES with S-video going into a splitter, which then pipes S-video to both my TV and my capture card. There are captures cards that do the same with HDMI but without need for a splitter.

The Super Game Boy 2 was Japan only. It's needed for speedrunning because the regular Super Game Boy runs at the wrong framerate so times are inaccurate.

So I tested my PS2 downstairs with my VP20. It really does not look any better than OSSC from what I can tell. Of course they are 2 different TV's and my 65" upstairs is a much nicer TV. But I think the people who say DVDO is better with 480p content are the types that use a magnifying glass to compare the pixels.

I don't think most people who casually play won't really notice the difference. So what I'm saying is, if you have a DVDO or OSSC and want to play PS2 or Xbox. Go for it. it will look great either way.

If what I read and my understanding is correct, OSSC is just a line doubler(tripler/quadrupler), and does not do actual upscaling, correct? So does that mean, when used by itself to the TV, it's mostly up to the TV to do the actual upscaling?

@ErickRPG, how are you connecting the PS2?

ErickRPG
GameTZ Subscriber Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
10-Oct(#196)
@Lunar well first it was component via DVDO, then RGB and I noticed a big difference. Someone at that time said RGB does 480p. Then I brought it upstairs via OSSC via RGB. And then someone here said only COMPONENT does 480p. So I'm really confused.

But All I can say is via RGB it looks really good via DVDO or OSSC. Line doubling can be viewed as upscaling can't it? I mean it takes existing pixels and fills in missing pixels, in turn sort of sharpening the pixel image. I'm not sure I really care to know all of the little details, I just know it looks good. I wouldn't have a problem playing PS2 with either unit.

ErickRPG
GameTZ Subscriber Double Gold Good Trader Global Trader - willing to trade internationally
10-Oct(#197)
That's another thing, both of my TVs are of the mid to high end so they probably both have very good upscale engines. If the OSSC just clears things up and gives the TV a sharp image to read then the TV can do a great job displaying the image. That all goes into it I guess.

Keep in mind with PS2 you often have to force 480p and most games don't even support it. The PS2 is by and large an SD console. RGsB is how you get 480p out of PS2 through RGB.

Obviously this matters a lot. Higher end tvs aren't going to need help with 480p game content. Just feed it a clean 480p RGsB signal and it's going to look pretty good. I've seen lots of arguments about 480p scaling. Lumagen and DVDO are both fine imo. The DVDO ringing is a huge issue for some people.
