new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

This is why I prefer my LEs to be simple: art book, soundtrack CD, and maybe a small figurine, plush or stationery item.

@JD do you think that has risen in value purely due to the subject materials rarity or was the guide not printed in large quantity?

I don't think I currently own a video game strategy guide. As a matter of fact, the only one I ever owned was the one that came packaged in with EarthBound (Super Nintendo) when I bought it brand new, lo those many moons ago.

id have to check, ive got the ff7 versus guide, dot hack quarantine, tales of destiny 2 though its in rough shape, suikoden 2 and 5, valkyria chronicles, skies of arcadia legends, wild arms ACF, probably a couple others. I still prefer a book, though I have used a lot of online guides/faqs as well. I like the maps and alchemy/item tables and such depending on what game im playing.

which is also a good time to mention im still looking for tons of guides if anyone has any of them :P

Mine is most certainly not related to subject material rarity, I have the Bayonetta guide only released in English in the UK and its insane what people are listing it at, makes me wish I hadn't opened mine :(. I use a mix nowadays, but favor online walkthroughs just due to the setup of my desk and my tv.

I may be in the minority but I preferred the versus guide to the brady games guide for ff7 myself.

the versus guide was vastly superior, afaik its regarded as the best ff7 guide, the brady guide misses a couple things iirc and the versus guide has sick material strats etc. I didn't have it til recently myself and took it in fair condition just to get it without paying an arm and a leg, im good with imperfections on guides if it saves money especially the more expensive ones.

While it certainly was an entertaining read and I definitely agree with the high praise, I completely and totally disagree with the hate. None of these are bad video games. Just because you aren't any good at something doesn't make it bad. no

Coming from the Kotaku writer who wrote:

"With 2016's NES Classic, we got to relive that pivotal 8-bit era, though those games have grown crusty with time. Today, sadly, most NES games are not worth playing. They are full of poor translations, inconsistent physics, and artificially inflated difficulty inspired by arcades. With a couple of exceptions (Super Mario Bros. 3), the NES Classic's library consisted of games you'd load up, play for a few minutes, and marvel at how poorly they've aged."

I thought that was funny, his SNES review was like "Yeah the NES Classic sucks because these games are unplayable or too hard" and I was like "So too hard." Seeing GnG on the bottom sealed that up.

its not a hard FF at all, but FF games aren't usually that hard anyway I guess unless you just don't pay attention other than superbosses. the vanish/x-zone combo makes most of the game a cakewalk once you have those spells. even works on some bosses iirc.

Pretty much any difficulty in these Square games can be overcome by running your head into random encounters often enough. Everyone in the reviewing scene always laments the forced grinding in these games and I honestly think they're full of crap, generally speaking they're paced to run through with occasional failures and things can be tooled to push yourself over the gear checks if necessary.

Fudge, all the guides I've been looking at for Super Mario RPG (FOR THE SECRETS.) are like "You should be Level 28 and have so and so and so in your party" and I'm like, level 21 running sub-endgame weapons, YES I SOLD THE SOIL FOR 150 COINS AND I'M GOLD CAPPED, FUDGE ME RIGHT, and I'm literally one fight away from the last fight in the game. Yeah, you tank a few fights and it may seem unfair but even the dog fights you just hit up again and get better dice rolls and you move on, you fudging move on. Can't even imagine how faceroll the battles would be if I was at suggested levels.

The fact that anyone takes what Kotaku has to say seriously is a mystery to me.

A few of my NES speedrunner friends actually wrote a blog post responding to the statement the NES games aren't worth playing anymore.
