new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

You seen how people reacted to Bat's great price. He has even lowered it. Maybe with the games someone will bite.

I mean, I could definitely go $250-260 for the system. With the games, probably $275-285.

If someone were to send an offer for a Neon Switch + PPT (complete w/keychains) for $270 shipped Paypal after fees, I'd probably accept that immediately.

You know. In theory.

Depends what the goal is. Pretty sure that seller wasn't using it for video games but I could be wrong of course. With film content it is pretty close to a neverending quest, though I'd say a Radiance 21xx is excellent and Radiance Pro UltraHD is about the best you could want for 4K upscaling. Now, something will probably come out again later, whenever the next resolution bump is, lol.

Think I should just do $250 shipped for the system and PPT?

I should have waited to get my son his for Christmas. I paid 330 for just a system a month back. Now everyone is selling theirs for excellent prices. I almost want to pick up a 3rd at these prices.

It's not incredible. It's good enough gameplay but babysitting is a bummer, only one runspeed, jumping and gimmicky bits are the only traversal options, the level design isn't really compelling. Couldn't play the 3DS one either, was very boring, that game literally puts me to sleep. The Wii U one wasn't awful... but still. None of the successive games past SMW really got the formula right again.

S.O.S: Sink or Swim, get on it. I just discovered it in the last month or so at a friends, great little puzzle/platform game. Finding one for a decent price, different story as it appears extremely hard to find, I still haven't secured my own copy yet.

I recently went through it myself. It's alright but not great.

What games are you talking about in the rest of your post? Yoshi games? Certainly not mainline Mario games I'd think.

If you had no barrier of entry(money, space, etc), what would be the ideal(best) way to play NES games with the best output quality?

Well if I had to guess maybe no space restrictions on an old tv that you could still use your zapper with. As far as how much that would cost probably not too much.

I haven't played too many gun games that I remember much since the nes EXCEPT in the arcades. Jurassic park lost world is awesome in the arcades

Nes is an old school system and the graphics aren't the best to begin with, there's a lot more to the experience of playing 8 bit games. If the games themselves weren't fun it doesn't matter how they look. A lot of games these days may be more immersive but are they really more fun? Most aren't even challenging they are just too drawn out to be finished sometimes.

I have the retrons hooked up on an awesome little monitor tv thingie I got here on gametz. It works fine for nes and retron 1 I haven't messed with retron 5 enough yet but the one snes game I put in ..... Idk. I think I need to change the settings on the retron 5 so it looks better but later. I get frustrated with things I just wanna plug in and play. I need to put aside some time soon to play and make sure it's at the best settings on this little monitor.

But yeah you don't need a ton of money to do it right just luck out getting an old ass tv for cheap that still works.

For digital output without analog->digital conversion it's AVS or Hi-def NES, and you already sold your AVS so get some form of Hi-def NES now. Or you know. NESRGB and CRT projectors from Japan.

All these dreams of elaborate setups... I think I'd just want to have a good, working Twin Famicom and the full catalog of HAL games for the Famicom, NES, and Disk System. And a copy of Crystalis with a good battery.

A Raspberry Pi wouldn't be powerful enough to play some of my favorites like Daytona USA or Radiant Silvergun, so if you're asking what the best way to play MAME is, it's probably a PC.

All physical games will end up not being played sometimes though. Who would have thought people would have all been playing Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania and Monster in My Pocket all at the same times 20+ years after release?

I still wanna play lots of games I've passed before. Digital is nice but I for one prefer physical copies. I'm not totally sure why.

I too am glad we started this monthly play together. I do really think that November should be an snes classic game though. I should be getting Monster in My Pocket soon and then I will try to see if I can get a physical copy of whichever game is game of the month for November as well.

Hopefully more people will come out of the woodwork here to play along in November and start talking in the RTT too 😊 I know a lot of people liked Snes better than Nes too (I am not one of them but there are great games on both systems!) so maybe it will get more people involved.

It mentions Linux. If it is open source enough that I can load up a MAME emulator and sort of use it as an arcade emulator box I can connect to my TV, I might actually get one. The Atari games are just a nice bonus.

Atari isn't directly competing against Nintendo, which should btw have already started producing more nes classics. Plus I have a sneaking suspicion one of their top ten companies to invest in was Nintendo so they probably didn't want to take any positives away from the Atari box.

It seems more like it will focus on getting pc game makers and maybe try to attract other companies that make games on every system too.

There is a lot of potential but who knows what it will end up turning into? I'm still hopeful.

Collectard's Collective

We help collectors who have lost touch with their games reconnect with their passion by bringing more games into systems rather than sitting on shelves looking pretty.

At CC, It's always a judgment-free zone and no one gets judged no matter how high the stacks get or how dusty the shelves are. Let neglected games rejoin their parent systems by showing them a little bit of TLC and wear any signs of usage as a badge of honor rather than throwing it out.

Let the collectarding end and passionate gaming begin!

I read something somewhere (Twitter?) that they are getting "all" orders out now. Pretty sure it said there were 20,000 of them getting prepped, be patient type of message. It might have been on their message board, can't remember. You know how they are with putting information in different places for no reason, making it super easy to always stay up to date.

Pick a game from your shelf that you haven't touched in more than a year. And play it this month!

Im currently playing Avalon Code, pretty interesting so far. I think RPGs need to stop with the slow ass lengthy hand holding in the first 3 hours. I don't care much about your world at all, GET me to care before I fall asleep and i will continue to play. Cutscenes in the beginning are boring too, I have no idea what I'm watching nor do I care. Just drop me into the action and let me figure out the basics myself.

Avalon Code is pretty good about that.

So when I first came here in 2015 I sold a whole bunch to pay for older systems. I started Arc the Lad Twilight of the Spirits 2 years ago. I picked it back up a couple weeks ago and finally beat it. On to the next one! smiley:::smile

Xenosaga or Chrono Cross? (I beat Xenosaga but now that I have these games again I want to beat them and have save files for all of them)

I really liked the xenosaga series, I wish they could have done their full idea for it, but they said that would have been more like 6 games

$112 repro of an unreleased beta: http://www.ebay.com/itm/132356375494

Sold for $25 in the early 2000s. I hate to tell the buyer that just because some guy burned the beta to a disc, doesn't mean the game was ever released.

That's just the going rate for CD repros now. It's gross. If it's obscure or unreleased and it looks good on a shelf and can be pointed to and a story told, even if nobody ever looks at their collection but themselves, it's worth it I guess...

Everything in my watch list went crazy over the weekend.
Midway Arcades Greatest Hits for $67
Rayman for $111
Road Rash for $102
Sim City 2000 $76

2-3 bidders bid amounts that "surely no one would bid higher than" on a bunch of NR auctions and spent way too much. Those chuckleheads. At least when I do that, my limit is the price of the lowest BIN...

Yeah, is Kevtris involved in this? Aren't all the 16-bit systems hard to implement in FPGA for some reason or other? This will probably sell great. Although since 16-bit consoles usually have native RGB, these aren't as exciting. Give me the Atari Nt!

With what I heard about the Analog NT's cartridge slot, that's a hard pass for me. I like the idea, but for fudge's sake, the SNES is like, $50, and not hard to come by at all. And still works great.

I'm holding off for a Zimba. A real SNES works great for me.

Also no controller included. They're trying to be Nintendo and release products missing key accessories. Nah, I'd rather have a $10 lower price than a third party controller I'll never use.

Yeah, this doesn't really appeal to me either. Like you say all original SNES systems generally work and don't have slot issues develop. I think they realize this isn't as needed, hence the lower price point.

I never got into Fatal Frame, although I guess PAL exclusives are cool. Damn there's a lot of them on Ebay considering people are expecting $100+ for them. I thought the combat in FF2 was repetitive and the story didn't make any sense until I read Wikipedia.

And just post a simple "I'm in" if you want to join.

But you know. It's just "to allow people who just want to experience the game" and hand the seller $30 for their time distributing a stolen ISO file.

You know I'm in. $25 minimum sounds good. Also while no one has to go the full blown extra mile I'd say use your brains and try to make it as close to actual value as you can. Inflated listings and retro stores suck!

they are supposed to put our more NES next year. i could see a time where they have several of these classic consoles on the shelves at the same time. apparently there is a trademark out there that is leading some people to believe the n64 is next, but also a gameboy trademark, but those could be other things too. i cant see a gameboy doing as well as these have but im sure some would get it, id think GBA would be better, and maybe thats what it will be.

id much rather see a robust VC on switch that carries my purchases from wii u.... ugh.

I might be the only one here who would prefer a n64 classic over an snes classic but there would be two zeldas (presumably) a much better Mario Kart and of course Diddy Kong Racing would be my main reason to have one. Although Banjo games and quite a few others would be really cool as well.

As far as gameboy I could see a Gameboy classic being totally different maybe two different versions one portable and one you could play on a tv. Because let's face it those screens with those graphics.

Also I don't see why gameboy, gameboy color and gameboy advance games can't be on the same classic system since they all share the same basic moniker. I also don't believe the original gameboy has enough "must have" games to justify its own system without at least gbc games and maybe even gba games.

But idk if Nintendo is still hoping to sell more wii u systems but that's the only reason I can think of not being able to transfer your games on their network.

Actually they rereleased Diddy Kong Racing and it was a newer version (kinda) on the ds after Microsoft acquired Rare so I'm not sure that it couldn't happen no matter how improbable it might be now.

Even with just the two Zeldas and Mario 64 (not that I'm the biggest fan of it but I know I need to give it another chance one day) plus Mario Kart there are still a few games besides those to round it out. I liked Star Wars episode 1 racing a lot of course the DC version is way better but it doesn't mean the N64 version isnt great too ..... There's just not as many extras I guess.

Whatever the first system to have an adapter that lets me play pre-NES games with real carts and controllers is, I'll get. People seem convinced all the old cores and getting ported to the Super Nt as well, so if there are adapters and such for it, I'm onboard. I'm not buying hopes and dreams though, only an actual product.

I think the problem is GTZ is all collectors(read: cheap people), so we never want to sell too low or buy too high which is what a game store needs people to do to be profitable.

Like if @DefaultGen needs a CIB Ninja Gaiden 3, you think hes gonna be like well, heres $200, find me a copy?
Or if I want a copy of CIB Persona, im gonna go to a local store and buy it for $200?

Note: did not research NG3 CIB price, but I hope its alot less than $200 so my point is not without merit.

Unfortunately sir there are actually super cheap people amongst us that seem to be farming gametz for people being decent on prices just to resell outside of gametz.

I only "know of" a couple and you sir are definitely not one of them. It's probably the worst problem on this site. Even a few people who aren't reselling just retrading and valuing their trash as the exact same as your treasure. There is a reason I've been here for 15 + years and prefer to trade with a small group of people lately. I don't mind buying from good people here at right around eBay prices or a little more. People here are (usually) really honest about conditions and when they're not I mention it sometimes or I just don't trade with them anymore.

Plus some people are just better to message with and it makes it way easier to trade with them for things we both want.

It's been tough to make any type of trade here last few months.

I can think of 7 times recent I wanted to buy a game but couldn't even get the game for GS price (i.e. I just went to GS). Half the games I got for less than $5 with the 4 for 20 sale, so it really worked out for me in the end. Since when did GS have such unbeatable prices?

I've even sent a trade for the exact amount the person said they value the game at and still get declined.

Recent there was a game for $20 OBO, I offered $18 and they said they wanted $20. So why say OBO?

If I offer games as trade 9/10 it end up declined, even when I'm offering new items off their want list.

I would say that people sitting on the thier stock and unwilling to budge on price is Nintendo Age. You can get deals on Reddit gamesale gameswap but they have had a really bad problem of scammers lately (a product of not having a good feedback system. I feel here is a good medium. You mean accidentally? Nah lol

I don't have much of a collection anymore. It's kinda nice! I think my biggest libraries are now... Xbox OG? And Wii comes in second and Wii U third, and the rest is virtually nonexistent lol. Think I've got less than 40-50 games total now. I used to have moderate stacks of PC Engine, PS2 and Genesis (I still think Genesis is the best shelf collection system, sexy boxes). I think when I make my trip to Ikea once it opens, my shelving requirements will be thankfully minimal for my new apartment, glad to be rid of all the dead weight of crap I don't play.

This is literally the only place I've traded outside of Craigslist and maybe the recycler since I've been on gametz. Also outside of buying selling trading with family and friends in the real.

My whole thing is I have seen a few people really pay it forward and not overcharge ever if anything they undercharge and there's a few greedy peeps in the shadows. I do kinda hoard I guess but if someone I've had good dealings with wants something I don't usually hesitate to make a trade so they can get it.

People should know values well enough before trading here anyways. I've barely had any problems in actual trades here ..... In forums lol totally different story but it's fine with me too. It's good to find out who dislikes me ahead of time before I get stuck in a trade with them. I don't think I'll ever bother with any other site to trade games except maybe craigslist (which isn't an actual community to me) and Facebook only if I luck into a good opportunity. So I guess important to me that people want to keep trading here since it's the only place I've ever wanted to trade. If people are being greedy other people will stop selling here. And possibly stop trading here.

The psp is maybe my favorite Sony system ever. They really made it just about perfect. The vita probably has way better graphics but there's something about the psp, I think I will always try to own one unless having videogames becomes outlawed in the future.

I still owe you stuff and I still have a sealed Blade Runner from the steals thread. I wouldn't know the difference in versions though I'll go check it out.

Edit: it's on four discs but it's all on DVD so I don't think that's what you wanted.

Nah, it was crapware. It was an okay emulation solution until better things came out.

Also, keep it on the down-low but after the new year I will probably VERY SLOWLY. And VERY CAREFULLY. Be getting back into PC Engine. EVER SO FUDGING SLOWLY. AND CAREFULLY. Until about Mid-November all I'm letting myself do is sell, and honestly I'm about outta crap to sell, so that's cool.

Well just make deals for those items with the good people here so you don't have to spend a fortune trying to get all those games back.

I've never had a pc engine and only got to play a friends turbo grafx maybe twice? But I don't envy trying to find super expensive games the way people have been acting lately. Everything is worth a ton again suddenly. I wasn't paying attention and then boom! I couldn't afford any old systems and games.

Oh, let's see my list.

Ninja Ryukenden
Final Soldier/Soldier Blade/Super Star Soldier
Tora He no Michi
Volfeid
Galga '88
Takahashi Meijin no Shin Boken Jima
PC Genjin 1/2/3
Splatterhouse
(checks PCE Bible)
Ankoku/Makyo Densetsu
Bomberman
Bomberman '94
Darius Plus
Detana!! Twinbee
Doraemon: Meikyu Daisakusen
Download/Download 2
Akumajo Dracula X
Dragon Saber/Spirit
Fantasy Zone
Gate/Winds of Thunder
Genpei Toma Den/Kannoni
Gradius/Gradius II
Gunhed
Image Fight
Shubibinman 1-3
Kiki Kaikai
Valkyrie no Densetsu
Salamander
Lode Runner: Lost Labyrinth
Momotaro Katsugeki
Monster Lair/Bikkuriman World
Mugen Senshi Valis / Valis 2-4
Saigo no Nindo
Paranoia
Parasol Stars
Parodius Da!
PC Denjin: Punkic Cyborgs
Puyo Puyo CD Tsu
R-Type 1/2
Side Arms: Hyperdyne
Son-Son II

And if I ever hit the lottery, Tatsujin. This list successfully dodges all the overrated/overpriced titles and boils down the library to games everyone should own and enjoy, either because it's a fantastic game or it's so dirt cheap and so playable that you can't help but own it. Right off the bat I'm missing a few but some of the games I like are confusing to play through without a walkthrough due to language barriers. All of these are perfectly playable knowing zero Japanese.

...HuCard Only is probably not only an option, but a necessity for quite a few of these I think, though I wouldn't mind shelf candy. I COULD just go for a Duo-R and have someone give it a once-over and pick up a TED, but if I'm going to SLOWLY... FUDGING SLOWLY get back into it, I think this list is manageable over a few years.

Yeah - sometimes you have to hold an auction and sell like 150 things to afford one (or more realistically half of a) game

We should do a high score contest for something like Devil Crash either instead of or in addition to games of the month. I feel like we're going to have 2 weeks of maybe 1-2 more people playing Monster in my Pocket. We could bump up high scores forever.

I once had a mind bending zen fudging game of Devil Crash that I will never top. I also don't have the hu right now. High score idea sounds cool though. I can confirm 36 billion on Cult of the Bloody Tongue table on Digital Pinball Necronomicon so we should start with that first.

I think you may still have a couple items I want, too. I've just been spacing out my buying more lately. Most things entering my house may as well enter an abyss...

Though I did recently do an actual trade with someone; it's still in my pending. They had an expensive game I wanted, and vice versa. Since the one I was sending was slightly more, the other party paid my shipping. So I'm glad to see trades aren't dead, and I am open to trading more from my avail list to anyone. So you're not counting trades from the steals thread or the virtual box towards your totals?

Or you're just counting item for item straight up with one person with no sales or purchases either, yes?

I typically don't do the steals and virtual box threads. I like knowing that with my trades that both sides feel they're getting a good deal. Those type of threads just don't really give that feeling, even if it may be true.

And was this the thread where people talked about their old trades? I've not been here too long, but in my first 75 trades, there are now 5 abandoned users, 2 with BTRs, 1 abuse, and Fibro with the frozen. And that doesn't even represent 75 users, since I had some repeats in there.

I get that 100% since it's not direct trading and there has been plenty of drama in both of those threads. I would venture to say you may have missed out on the steals thread because some highly valuable and very rarely traded items popped up on there several times.

If you're into expensive obscure video gaming stuff that is. My main thing was that it got people trading stuff they considered untouchable before and some might have even been happy to see these treasures going to a happy new home 😊

In general if someone has a sales post where it's not specifically stated no trades that is the BEST place to try to trade because you know they've already mentally said goodbye to everything in the thread.

So getting a game in return is almost like better than money unless times are really hard.

I did see a few things in the steals thread, but someone else always grabbed them before I saw them. Many of the times when I was looking, the current one was something I either wasn't interested in, or wasn't marked down enough for me to consider it a steal with enough value for the things I was considering putting up. Of course, the drama you mentioned didn't help matters either..,

I'll admit I got caught up int he steals thread. I definitely regret putting up some of the things I did. After everything is all said and done I realized you really aren't getting a steal, you are paying full value or more. It was fun, but I wish I'd have kept some of the items I put up and just paid cash for what I got in return.

The drama never does help when you're trying something like that out for the first time. It's one of the weirdest feelings trying to think of a steal knowing people are going to bring you down no matter how good it is.

I do miss it because it was fun and weird but auctions are pretty fun too and you have a much fairer chance to get the one thing you want. It's hard when you miss a steal that you've been really wanting. It kinda makes you just wanna forget all about it.

Yeah, the collector in me hates giving up stuff. And as you said, in the end, it's a wash when done fairly. Sure, I may get a $100 item for $50, but then I'd sell my own $100 item for $50. But when it's a $40 item for $20, now my $100 item needs to be $80 to break even, and that's not really a steal price in many eyes. I stopped following the thread after a while when its rules kept morphing faster than Samus doing crunches...

really what you are doing in the steals thread and really the virtual box too is just facilitating an easy way to get three way trades going where everyone gets something they want. ive had to give up some stuff i wouldn't have normally in those but also gotten some stuff i wouldn't have gotten either.

when your wanted and available lists start to get pretty small three way trades can be about the only way to get a trade, but they are normally not as easy to set up.

The best part is dealing with the people trying to game the system. More of an issue in the steal thread imo since with the virtual box someone has to pick garbage over better items but there were some goofs this last time that enabled it a little.

I like the steals thread because it helps me move some things I am "done" with or don't really care for a lot easier than ebay or similar and then I get a discount for what that stuff is worth on something I actually want. Yes when you think about it its kind of a wash on the actual steal, but it does help lower the cash amount going out for something I want! Kind of like a roundabout partial trade. I can say I probably wouldn't have Albert Odyssey right now if it weren't for a nice discount from @Lunar on it in the last thread.

Sometimes I'm just not patient enough to get a steal before offering one. It's a character flaw

Nomad's not too bad with a recap and a screen replacement. It's not INCREDIBLE but I could think of worse things than a functional portable Genesis.

Steals thread is fun, essentially you're swapping items with money as a buffer when it works as intended, but you're also bleeding shipping costs. At least if you're shipping out a system bundle to reciprocate a big game, which I did a few times.

I would avoid all mystery boxes unless they are super cheap or Lunar is the one filling them. I agree Double D, I love my Nomad, sure its almost the size of a model 2 genesis, but both of mine have really good composite output and as long as you aren't running it on batteries it was pretty cool tech for the time. Still cant believe it took so long for another portable to offer video out afterwards.

100% just ban mystery boxes.

As far as the Nomad it's a cool oddity but I couldn't keep it around when I already just have a bunch of much cheaper Genesis systems that do the same thing better.

I keep it all together in the original shipping box, with mystery box written on the side just as a reminder of that fiasco. It sits there as a reminder of a few things. I've always asked the seller before buying. That way I could convince them to do it. If it was a BIN you had to snatch, just hope. And if it arrives damaged just report to ebay it was damaged during shipping and specify "insufficient packaging". I was given that advice here, and it worked. Especially if you send a message to seller asking them to please protect it during shipping.

I've put that on every single auction for years...unfortunately it's about half the time that they listen. The worst part are all those minty GBA games I had to return and one less nice copy out there to rescue.

For hard to find boxes I sometimes offer to pay extra shipping (if they only charged enough to ship first class). Once someone actually took me up on it. It's bullcrap and the seller should just get me the thing like they're supposed to, but it was easier to pay a few bucks and not have to deal with months of tracking down a deal on a nice box again.

I try to pack games appropriately. Cart only games/disc games with sturdy cases can go in bubble mailers. Everything else goes in a box.

The fact that anyone would ship a box in a bubble mailer is just stupefying to me. Just use a box dummy.

I used to not bother with magazines but the last lot I got seriously shipped in a mailer. I probably doged about it here.

And it's even worse when I'm paying the shipping costs. I spent $100+ on a game and opt in for the $2.50 shipping? Yes please, I'll have two.

Finding a box can be a hassle but come on, it's not THAT much of a hassle.
