new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

This is the actual worst. I try to find a box for anything over $40. It's not like it even really adds to the shipping cost.

Back when I was buying them, people would ship CIB NES boxes in bubble mailers fairly regularly. Alarming, but everything came in okay so whatever.

ya its really not horrible, but i feel like if i buy a new item i should get a new item, what a concept right lol.

if they will offer that then that would be awesome, i'll have to hit them up about that

@tonymack21 Yeah I feel where you are coming from and it would be nice if they would just use boxes to ship. To get offered the % off you have to message them about the issue instead of just processing the exchange.

cool ill check into it that, they have these weird fold in boxes that dont use tape that i have gotten some things in from them if they would even use those it would be an improvement. probably for the money on their end its cheaper to just discount the people who ask for it as most probably dont

Gypsy

No doubt they love to do the discount because at the end of the day it's much cheaper for them than multiple exchanges. Esp if you have prime and they gotta 2-day it..

They are both fine. I have the 6 button for the genesis that is similarly curvy to saturn model 2 and I have the sharp edges saturn model 1 controller and I like both.

I had a much smaller Saturn controller I believe. This one looks much better. The only thing just from looking at it is that the dpad looks a little sunken in, do you ever have any problems with that or does it still stick out far enough for you?

Since we were discussing shipping today, I received an Amiibo from BB today literally stuffed into a small bubble mailer. Good thing I got this knowing I would be opening/using it.

I waiting to get all of the Zelda Amiibo before I start to play BOTW. I'll probably start after the new Amiibo get released next month. I haven't read about the game in fear of spoilers, are those new Amiibo characters in the main game or the DLC?

All this saturn talk reminds me of when I had a chance to buy one. It was about the time the original XBOX came out. A friend wanted to sell me his saturn and all games for $20. I don't remember what the games were, there were like 5 disc only games. I rode my bike around to several stores and blockbuster around the city to see if I could still find games for it. I couldn't find any so I chose to pass on buying it.

For 20 bucks? It could have been a gameboy with five random games and I would have bought it as long as it worked.

I did eventually trade my Saturn for some n64 games here because I was basically poor enough to realize I wasn't getting a decent copy of shining force 3 back then any time soon. It's a system I will eventually get again I'm sure as long as my life doesn't fall apart before then. Or if I get into another lopsided relationship I could see it not being any kind of a mutual priority too.

The 4 amiibo being released later are of legendary heroes in the BotW story, and give bonus equipment when used.

Do you still need any of the existing Zelda amiibo? My GS just got a restock, so perhaps I could help. smiley:::smile

It was under $8 for me to ship it to you. Maaaaybe if it's going all the way across the country a flat rate would be an okay option.

It's hilarious, because across the country I can see the demand is obviously dropping as customers who wanted one are getting one. The prices have been steadily tanking all month, went from $215 to $140 within the span of 3 weeks already. These chickens stockpiling the crap are going to end up dropping them for less than MSRP eventually, the profit margins for these have already dropped to what... $35 at best, and shrinking every day.

If you click the picture it opens the original listing.

I searched and there is actually a combo and those Zelda disc also look weird. So I'm not sure, maybe because the description is in that button? Never seen a description displayed like that before.

There is a Metroid Prime / Wind Waker Double Pack worth around $300. The only thing unique about it is the insert art though. That $100 auction is just a double-disc case with loose copies of Metroid Prime and Wind Waker, lol.

Yeah I have never heard of a Metroid/Zelda gamecube combo or if I had I quickly forgot because that's a horrible idea. Was it a gamecube pack in or something? I think titles like these shouldn't be bundled together it cheapens them somehow.

I didn't mind the idea of all those Zelda games in one but that's only because they were all from the same series.

Nope, discs and manuals and inserts are completely identical. Someone's a retard.

That said, I think I need to get my hands on some copies of Metroid ($10) and Wind Waker ($25) since that can so easily become $95. Wonder if you could get away with "No Case" as well for $60.

Or you can just get it on the Wii. Seriously, support the OG Virtual Console before it goes away next year.

Speaking of Virtual Console, the Evansville North Target had about half a dozen SNES Classic systems in stock. That'll teach me to get aggravated without merit. ^^; Anyhoo, I can try to get one tomorrow if people still want one.

I'm not trying to start stuff ... I dont have the energy for it ... but I am told people go gaga over the packaging, which, after seeing, is admitted nice.

That being said, the possibility of picking up a nice looking Dynastic Hero and Bonk 3 SCD that I can play on my Duo-R is very, very tempting, because, I'm okay paying the equivalent of $50ish a pop for two games that, combined, would cost upwards of $2000, and which I will likely never own unless I hit the lotto, or you guys start way over paying on my auctions.

Again, dont want to start anything... there's just something comforting about know there is the option, but I've never pulled the trigger, and I can totally understand the other side of the coin -because they just very pretty, relatively expensive bootlegs.

All that being said, I just paid market for a Chase HQ that came with:
-custom 3D printed HuCard case by Aaron Nanto.
-custom spine label by Sparky.
-custom single-piece folded cover with instructions printed on the inner side by Sparky.
-brand new custom HuCard sleeve by Seymour Onion.

But I thought it was case and manual. This is a lesson for the kids ... always read the descriptions, even if you're bidding on your phones, on the subway, after a very long day at work

I'd look at the shelf and smile, saying "I could have burned that for ten cents and it'd be just as legitimate." but lots and LOTS of people seem to be able to like, fool themselves or something? I will probably struggle with this until I die. I can get burning to play, I can get an Everdrive to play, but I don't think I'll ever get "Pay someone significant amounts of money to sell me a bootleg"

yeah, I think it's a mental justification where it's technically something you paid for than "stole" ... plus a manual to (never actually) flip through

As for shelf candy... While I have a love/hate relationship with my TG16/TGCD collection... the way the games look lined up on the shelf together falls squarely in the hate column. There is just so much inconsistency even though it looked like they tried to make it consistent.

Well, someone stole it before you, and then when you paid for it, you essentially bought a hot copy. At the cost of an actual retail release, sometimes substantially more than even that. I've seen people pay Earthbound prices for bootlegs and it just makes me grind my teeth in my sleep because this is why we can't have nice things. When people are willing to shell out $60-150 for fake stuff, it just drives up the market prices for legitimate products and makes me have to wade through more fake crap to try and find something that's real. That's harmful to the aftermarket by itself, but when people like Tobias steal a fan translation (made free to the public for people who want to play it) and puts it in a nice pretty case and charges $60-120 for singles and box sets, those people who worked hard to produce this for fans for fun, they stop translating. And that's just bad for everyone. Why pour your heart into a project when someone's gonna gank it, stamp it on a silver disc and turn a hefty profit on it?

I think I could even understand printing your own case and insert, making your own disc label. But paying a German to have Koreans press your discs and print your inserts is just this side of daffy. And don't think I'm wagging my finger at you, I'm not, just sharing my thoughts on the topic. I'll flame Facebook randos any day of the week but I respect most of the people on this site too much to be too dickish about it.

It's the human drive to "own" things. I totally get it, and I flirted with it BRIEFLY. IE having all of my favorite SNES rpgs, then have a handful of translated RPGs right next to them on the shelf to make the SNES US RPG "collection" bigger.

But I did not go down that route. To be honest I have so many US legit released physical games in my collection, I might never be able to get to even legit Japanese RPGs.

Yeah, I do generally agree with you on this. I'm 10 games away from a complete collection, of which Tobias sells 3 or 4 of the ones I still need (depending on how you slice it), and, if I ever want a complete shelf, I'm probably going to need to get them from him, but I'm not there yet. For the record, TG is the only system that I would ever consider this for... I'm close-ish on a complete NES collection too, but I'm not going to go through the trouble of finding a bootleg copy of Stadium Events just to do it. (I'd maybe consider Nintendo World Championship, but only just to experience it on the system). Again, I can't bring myself to knowingly pay for any bootleg.

So many nuggets of wisdom in RTT.

In between bouts of dick measuring contests and RGB elitism, we have these profound insights from genuine game collectors.

Years from now, we may be able to package RTT threads into a PDF and publish it for other collectards to read.

Wonderboy and Macross are legit. The LOT/GOT double pack isn't even PCEWorks, it's a couple CDRs with labels on them with remastered audio. Awesome, but still crapty to see it just kinda thrown into a lot.

Yeah I mentioned this in the fb thread already but one of the main guys working on Legend of Xanadu 1-2 says he is pretty much done if Tobias boots them. And you know what? I can't really even pretend to be angry at him for it. We are talking about people that have jobs and families taking large amounts of their free time to translate an old game they love so it can reach a wider audience. Then you have some craphead turning a profit on it because, well, you gotta fund all those upscalers somehow. Oh I'm sorry my bad it's "for the love of it".

Also I'm currently not in the market for games like Sapphire, Drac X, Faussy, Nexzr (already have this one yay) etc... but wading through the bootlegs when buying is a legit concern. Esp on the legit rarez like Sapphire. These are much more passable than crapty GBA fakes. ESPECIALLY the early completely unmarked Sapphire copies. You have to check the ring code and look at the colours because they are just SLIGHTLY off.

A normal US duo with the hookups is around 500 bucks. the packins including keith i'd say from recent sales are aprox 60+70+30+10= 170

Like, who amasses a 90% fake library for a boxed minty Turbo Duo and then sells it all? What was the point? Why pay $40 for CD-R audio touch-up images and then sell it?

I told him to donate the bootlegs to Goodwill and I was only about a quarter joking. I'm so fudging tempted to take all my loose PCEWorks freebies, list them up at a 99c auction and say fully disclosed "I paid literally no money for these", put "Fake and Gay" in the title and see how actually retarded the PCE crowd's gotten in the past few years.

And that's the thing, too, like... You coulda bought legit, but you bought fake, and your only hope is that someone else is as dipcrap-retarded as you were, or that the buyer isn't paying enough attention to the listing.

He tried to sell this whole crap bagel before and it didn't sell. Guess no one else saw the value of le gemz. Should go similarly this time. Can't lower the price though.

Minorly preachy don't read if you are overly sensitive

I'm not saying people have to hold on to all their crap or take a huge hit on value to do anyone a favour but what people shouldn't do is spend beyond their means for a hobby in the first place. If you put games on a credit card or have to sell something to pay off regular and expected bills you've done something wrong.

It's probably a burn issue. I usually used... DiscJuggler to burn my PCE images I think?

Easiest way to see if it's a burn issue is to fire up Ootake or *gags* Magic Engine to see if IT recognizes the discs.

They are good indeed. Im somewhat tempted with that NES lot, but you know, space restrictions and all. I also need to be dumping rather than getting more in.

Ill be looking out for 1 or 2 smaller high value items(NESC) and dumping bundles

I have a feeling they'll be $39.99 at least. Love that they are making physicals and I can get games I wouldn't normally as I don't do digital as well but I fear for the cost. I don't really care about all the crap games they put out, I just won't buy them but I'm guessing there will be more I want than don't want.

LRG Switch games yes Not interested in multiplatform stuff so hopefully they focus on exclusives. Can't wait to pay $25+ for Fast RMX or some BS. Actually what are the digital Switch games that are worth a physical release? Snipperclips is already getting one. Sonic Mania maybe?

It will work with 700MB cdrs but it's not desirable. For example I was able to play through Ys IV but the audio dropped during the epilogue/end credits. I bought some higher end (LOL) 650MB cdrs and I haven't had any issues on PCE or Saturn with them.

They will work it's just that these players weren't designed to seek that far so you can have weird issues if the data is further out or some crap. I don't think it's a super huge deal overall and obviously, again, they should at least be recognized and start if burned properly.

It's a waste of time to reply to LRG. You can have it be well thought out and presented, if it doesn't fit their agenda it will be ignored/brushed aside. The no resale value comment is just...not even sure how they can type it. Even if someone sold it at a price where they lost money it had resale value. It wasn't free...

Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I'm not convinced these LRG games will hold their value 10-15 years down the road.

They will be like an old Cadillac. They are old, pretty and rare. However they were everyone's garage queen. So they just aren't worth that much.

I used Verbatim 700mb CD-R to burn. I used the Emulator @DiamondDave recommended and they do not read. Not sure what my issue is burning them. I used the Cue files and imgburn.

Honestly, they aren't that much different than the people making repros. I am sure they pay some type of licensing fee, but for $4 games it is probably not much. It is amazing how declaring limited edition makes people think they should be really valuable.

No but these corporations don't support anything you aren't paying for in some way.

Example if I don't log in to my Amazon kindle fires regularly online I cannot even access my content offline. I CAN play criminal case and a few other games offline BUT I still have to log in every once in awhile OR I cannot even load them up to play. There are little things like this built into everything nowadays and it's only getting worse. They talk about piracy as an excuse for all these shady little safeguards but all I see is rampant corporate greed. And they do NOT intend to support these games for very long. Sony and Nintendo are already taking steps to push their fan base into whatever their next systems are. Microsoft will do it too.

It's a corrupt system that has no loyalty to its customer base. I get that everything costs money but I wonder where the line is when they charge for every single thing. I used to be okay paying for extra characters and costumes in Mortal Kombat and a few other beloved games but they are getting ever more greedy.

None of these digital games are actually ever owned by us and in some ways it kind of makes me sick.

Well you could have gotten the free 32gb card and offered a similar discount off of your games with shipping. Something like 40 or a little less off would have equaled the memory card.

I totally agree with this. You don't own anything with digital. It is convenient and I have bought a few games here or there, but I know it isn't forever.

Don't get me wrong. I don't object to LRG in any way. The games have value even in the after market, but they aren't investments.

RE digital games: I don't buy them from consoles or steam. I do buy them from gog though because I can store them anywhere and generally have them work on most pcs. I have all my gog files burned to archival grade dvd-r that will probably outlive me.

Also before that a ~$150 Dreamcast lot for $60 off that wasn't even dibbed. I could go lower on that lot but not for what I got with the PS1 games. I get that it's niche but the fact that it wasn't dibbed and the values went down from the SNESC so quickly says it all.

Then you have a user that is very disingenuous playing his usual innocence shtick.

the thing about accesssing digital games i do understand, but i dont think it will be a big issue, ps1 and 2 emulation is already pretty perfect on a decent pc, ive been messing with dragon quest 8 and radiata stories on my pc and they are gorgeous in 1080p and no jaggies. ps3 emulation is coming along, give it another year and those rpcs3 guys are gonna have that in great shape. granted it takes a pretty decent pc to run the ps2 and ps3 stuff, but by the time the psn store doesnt exist, those pc's will be pretty low tier and old. for the wii u eshop concern, the CemU emulator is already really good, it runs breath of the wild prettier than the switch version with the new graphics pack they just released. these games are going to be out there, even if they are no longer on official channels, and since you did at one time buy it, even if you dont like the idea of "pirating", you did pay for it.

I was very close to consecutive dibbing and coming up with another deal to offer. Not a bad deal at all, but brand:::Sega Dreamcast can be a tough sell in the thread. :)

Yeah I knew when I posted it tbh which is why I also included the @WithinTemptation bait. Had some other stuff in reserve but not sure I wanted to use that for the PS1 games I was getting.

This brand:::Sega Dreamcast is definitely available with or without the games if anyone is interested. I don't need as many systems as I have. Basically traded @DiamondDave for Mars Matrix lol.

yes they definitely do, it breathes total new life into these games. and you cant buy most of these in any way that benefits the pub or dev anymore anyway.

DQ8 looking this good has me so excited for DQ11.
ps1 def benefits a lot too. you can get these games looking a generation ahead of themselves in many cases

Alright, someone with a UK SNES Classic model and Hakchi2, I need a hero.

I didn't brick my SNES Classic (Yet!) but I did manage to accidentally delete my original Kernel dump in some confusion this morning. If I can get an assist from someone, I'd be eternally grateful.

I may be able to flash the US kernel on the UK model, would be interesting to try, but I'm specifically looking for the UK kernel dump. I think I got that one incoming from another user so should be good on that end, but for science I honestly wouldn't mind trying to flash the US kernel on this model. I watched an entire video about how even on the snes euro classic they used the same virtual box art as the original US games in the menus. I'm not sure how pissed I would be if that were reversed but yeah I feel like Nintendo didn't spend enough time individualizing (yes I'm aware that may not even be a real word) the different models for the different markets. So I'm thinking like @WithinTemptation that they are pretty close to identical anyways.

I do wish Nintendo had made the three models much different from one another so they would all be worth owning together though.

Agreed. Saturday Morning RPG and Soldner were up there for a while but Soldner dropped off after Play Asia release. They aren't a great "investment" because after LRG prints a run, everything goes back to the dev so that they can have someone else publish another run or even do it themselves. You'll never know how many copies there will be until years from now. And I don't think LRG vs another 3rd party publisher will really warrant that much of a premium in the years to come.

Well much like @Gypsy my top 10 would look like a top 100 as well.
Split between different types and rationales as to why they needed to be included. But I will just post a very incomplete top 10+ with games I know deserve to be mentioned in my top 100 anyways. Actually I want to list some favorites off of various systems so something like 1 from each system.

Mortal Kombat "9" (Xbox 360 2011, also on vita and PS3 with extra stuff)

Morrowind (og Xbox, og version! goty takes forever to load after you die and seems glitchier)

Diddy Kong Racing (N64)

Mortal Kombat II (Arcade as well as any other version I've ever had including the Saturn version and Xbox live arcade 360 version)

Realms of Arkania: Star Trail (pc)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (2600 there are a few 2600 games I wanted to list but this is one of those rare games I never beat nor could I even figure out what I was doing lol!)

Donkey Kong Country 2 (Snes)

Castlevania (Nes again there are a ton of games for Nes I could have listed but this is the most recent I replayed and fell back in love with, what a perfectly balanced game "for me" with my skills I also fell back in love with Ninja Gaiden but Castlevania does still edge it out for me)

Ultra Vortek (Atari Jaguar, an MK type fighting game with blood and guts galore I literally figured out every finishing move on my own over years of playing before the Internet)

WTF: Work Time Fun (psp the main reason I will always own a psp I effing love these mini games especially the infamous Buddhas Quest which almost deserves a spot by itself 😍)

Shining Force 2 (Genesis, it was maybe between this and Shining Force 1 but there are a TON of underrated classics on the Genesis I sometimes wonder if it would have been better than Snes had Nintendo stuck to the no blood nonsense for MK2 I think if they had I would have preferred Genesis even though I loved Nintendo)

Zelda Links Awakening (og gameboy god, this is probably one of my best memories ever with any game ever!)

Walt Disney World Racing (Dreamcast also available in a slightly less glitchy ps1 version but also graphically inferior if that's possible, such a fun racing game since I love all things Disney anyways and this game is just great!)

Super Meat Boy (Xbox One even though I started playing it on 360 I am even better at it on Xbox One and I needed an Xbox One game)

I'm going to stop there for now there's like 10 to 15 more systems I'm going to mention so imma cut it out but I love every one of those games I mentioned up there including Arcade lol.

The price is too high and the build quality looks suspect (some decals look sloppily applied). If it was a game I liked more like Pole Position or Out Run maybe I'd think it's cooler.

I don't know a lot about SNES. Does anyone care about these Majesco label variants? Less than $10 shipped for this one just listed. I'd take it if it was Contra III, but don't need an ugly version of Jungle Strike.

Maybe you're right about the quality but wouldn't playing a tiny arcade racing game be nearly impossible on a tiny arcade cabinet like this? Like didn't the original outrun have a wheel and pedals?

Idk enough about arcade pole position though but I would imagine it might not be an easy conversion either.

I think we might see a tempest though because that was definitely something I thought would work besides centipede. Was Pitfall! Ever an arcade game before it was on Atari home consoles? (Or even after?)

I wish sega hadn't sold all their Genesis stuff (or do they still technically own it?!?) because a Genesis classic done proper would probably be just as cool as an snes classic considering they'd put way more than just 21 games on it. (seriously Nintendo you should've done better than that 😡)

That does look really cool. I'm still after something that I can put MAME games on that will give me an authentic arcade feel to it. The closest and cheapest I can think is an Ipad and then one of those table top (half) arcade cabinets. I wish something smaller would come out.

Where do people go to buy a AGS-101 (non-SP version) besides eBay?

Also is there such a thing as a AGS-101 SP-version with improved D-Pad? I never got the SP version of the GBA because the D-pad never felt right in my hands.

Since there's no such thing as a Non-SP version of the AGS-101, as the AGS-101 is the backlit GBA SP's model number, I'm assuming you're referring to aftermarket GBA mods that use "AGS-101" or AGS-101-"like" screens? Maybe Etsy, but eBay's about the "best" place to get that.

Yes, that's what I'm referring to. It's odd that modders can't rely on word-of-mouth and just have their own online store to buy from directly.

Well one thing you have to remember is that the LED is crucial. You can say that well it has an on TV display. But consider it was set to DVI output and you'd have to switch to HDMI out. You would be blindly fiddling with buttons. You might never get it working!

What's the allure of a racing game? I'm curious because I can never really get the draw of the genre.

Like I enjoy Mario Kart, and Burnout is kinda fun once in a while, but other generic racers, or even GT or Forza, I don't get it. Is everyone playing with wheels so its got that Arcade-y feel? Educate me!

I like Super Hang-On and Daytona USA but that's mostly nostalgia talking.

You gotta go fast. I think arcade racing is great, Burnout, Out Run, and Pole Position are some of my favorite franchises ever. Modern games I think are too grindy. Too many races, grinding for currency, open worlds, storylines, customization, all that garbage. I just want to get in and race.
