new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

i could see in densely packed locations that this could possibly hurt stock on certain titles. for the one system'ers out there you could run out things you actually want to play.

I don't see the part in the article where you have to pay another $60. I would have been all about this when I was like 18, but at this point I'm not the target market for this.

ill look again, im pretty sure i saw you pay 60 every six months and get unlimited rentals and at the end of the six months you get a game, making the 60 essentially a deposit. they gotta have a way to keep getting money from you.

PowerPass lets you choose a game from GameStop's preowned library, take it home then swap it for something else when you're done. There's no limit on the number of games you can play during the six months, though you can only be renting one at a time.

It's a solid deal, but the best part might be that when the six months are up, you get to choose a preowned game to keep.

The program is available only to PowerUp Rewards members (so that the game they've got can be tracked), and you can only choose from games on the shelf in a physical store, not from the company's online catalogue. And they do mean any preowned game: there won't be any restrictions or limited pools to choose from.

The program starts November 19.

@Dashey - can you confirm?

i can see someone forgetting about it and then taking it back three days after the six months and being mad when they tell them they bought it lol

I'm not so sure, their prices have been getting allot better. I've been buying more and more from them over the last year. Prior to that I could count on one hand how many times a year I bought from GS (mainly exclusive amiibo).

Digital is hurting them for sure. I saw on a game news channel I watch said that 2/3 of current gen game sales are digital. I have noticed their prices being alot better too, they are probably having to. What they were doing wasn't going to be sustainable in the climate gaming is in.

I think many brick and mortar stores are going to be in real trouble over the next couple years not just gs, but stores like this that seek your extra money and not necessity are being outdone by Amazon and others online.. and people are getting more and more comfortable buying online.

They are cool, but I can't justify spending money on them that could go to games.

I don't understand people so willing to throw money at digital games (except when they are 80-90% off).

That's my best guess based on collecting trends. SNES is unreasonably high at the moment, and that puts PS1 games next in line to shoot through the roof as kids that grew up with those games start to have some kind of disposable income.

"The tech brands segment rose 44% to $256 million. Collectibles, GameStop's other promising new business line, jumped 28% to $212 million. Overall, sales from non-physical gaming segments increased to 37% of sales from 25% a year ago."

I'm not delusional digital is where we are headed. However that current gen comment probably includes PC. article writers do other stuff to skew the numbers in the direction they want as well.

The only time I go into a Gamestop is when they are having a crazy sale. I'd bet I'm not alone in that. I doubt they have many loyal customers.

that's possible, maybe I can find that video again but they put vids everyday and its from several months ago so I may not can that's a lot of vids lol. it very well may include steam and if so ya it will throw the numbers.
I do feel its where we are headed, but until console sales get stronger online we may still see physical as retailers need incentive to sell systems, and that is games and accessories. unless they start setting msrp to allow retailers to make money on them, which traditionally they don't. I guess they could sell those download cards,i guess we will see. PS5 will probably still have discs or high density cards but id wager PS6 doesn't have any physical media. same for whatever comes after X1 and its successor, even though they say they aren't doing "generations" anymore they will at some point have to do something totally new to keep up. I think what they mean by that is a future commitment to backward compatibility more than they don't intend to ever make another console.

def, if they could meet or beat online prices id def buy more there, but why would I give them 54.99 for a used game I can get here for 35 or less? all they need is a couple of people tracking ebay sold listings and they could keep their costs more competitive and they could win back a lot of more price savvy gamers id wager.

GameStop wants to be the savvy game shop but when you try to sell used game for $54.99....how do you even do the sales pitch?

"Hey! You want this brand new game for full price of $59.99 OR....you can buy the same game used and abused, without the case for $54.99!"

They also prey on the casual gamers and clueless parents with too much money.

absolutely, every time im in there which is pretty rare anymore, its a weird kid trying to buy a mature game and then the parent having to come in and ok it, or them trying to trade a game and clueless parent has to come in with their Drivers License, or clueless parent with half the name of the game someone wants, or a casual who has no idea they are overpaying greatly for the convenience of not waiting 2 days for amazon to ship it. for awhile this was probably enough to make money, but im wondering if that must be changing with all this new stuff and them actually dropping some prices after awhile. I was in their a couple weeks ago looking at the 4 for 20 sale and I actually saw some prices that weren't that unreasonable on some older stuff like ps3 and early ps4 type stuff.

with the game rental thing they must be banking on a lot of people getting in on that, the good stuff will be taken and they must think the number of users will make up for the lost sales when the only copies of that game are out on rental. that and possibly they like it so much they come back in with it and want to buy it, but the majority of gamestop regulars I would think aren't collectors? they are about playing and turning it over for something else, so who knows. my brother for instance only ever has 4 or 5 games at a time, once he's finished something he never keeps anything hardly save for a couple of his faves like the witcher. im surprised he buys as much digital as he does but he likes the convenience of that.

I use GameStop when they have retarded trade in deal promotions, like so retarded that some trade in value exceed their for sale price. Then I buy hardware from them without guilt.

I also shop their retro games once in a while, especially if they have a B2G1 promo.

Honestly I think this is great news. If people are dumb enough to sign up for essentially Gamefly (that you also have to pay $15/year on TOP of monthly fees to participate in) and their shelves are reduced to Madden Madden Madden and Call of Duty: Last Year's Edition, they should lose a lot of casual customers as they downgrade from a joke of a game store to a facade of a game store. ya, I hope the games as a service fad will pass. I hate seeing so many studios I used to like being reduced to loot box pushers or closed down by the corporate machine. at least Rockstar has said they are still committed to big single player experiences, and hopefully the success of horizon and other games recently have shown them we don't just want MP games, though ghost recon and destiny 2 at the top of the years sales charts don't help that lol. I did like ghost recon though.

Sometimes even great packing can't save something from USPS hell. Wheels did a really good job but when they toss something around for a week (when it's supposed to be two days) I guess I'm not surprised that a couple cases ended up broken.

My Walmart preorder SNES Classic never shipped. It's probably going to get cancelled. I was just looking to pass one on too.

I mean, it's a hack of Midnight Magic, I'm sure they didn't license that either.

Speaking of, I follow a Turbografx reproduction group on Facebook to keep tabs on fake stuff and they just announced a "release" of a homebrew RPG. I thought they were finally doing some good in the world, but after looking at it I think they just took an old beta from a couple years ago and burned it to a disc without the original creator's involvement smiley:::frown

So has any website made a list where you can check games by system for the new Target B2G1 sale?

I did see Zelda BOTW on there, as well as 3DS games. So if switch + 3ds games are available I think you can put together some nice 3 game bundles.

Every game other than Switch is included (Switch games are not included). Just search by Videogames > System and you'll get a list.

@ErickRPG How is BOTW included? I'm staring at it and it's not included.

Are you looking at the Wii U version? Because obviously that not being a Switch game, that would be included.
