new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

I'm absorbed in Mario in my gaming time. Not much retro to talk about. I keep losing auctions for my secret santa so I'm going to have to BIN their crap smiley:::angry

Also my local game shop got a complete Izek in, so that's pretty rad:

Still love old games and I check this thread. Just not a ton to say lately and like you say, got crap going on.

I've always loved film fwiw. Just got on a kick recently where I'm watching old stuff because I'm a curmudgeon and I hate all the CG in modern movies.

I just got a bunch of monster movie BDs. King Kong, Godzilla, the new and old Gamera movies. I wish more of it was available on BD. Tons of the older monster movies aren't available in HD and it sucks. The Godzilla chronology is such a clusterfudge and you can't get any single era of Godzilla movies on blu-ray.

I also don't like nothing-but-CG movies. Maybe it's bred out of how much I like horror. Nothing turns a horror into a comedy faster than computers.

I actually just got Dracula, Frankenstein and Godzilla checked out from the library on Sunday. You know the real Godzilla, from like 1954. Praise be to Criterion. Unfortunately I don't think there is enough interest in Godzilla for Criterion to handle more of them. Some of the blus are pretty terrible and of course the entire Godzilla filmography is not available on blu.

Probably going to buy the three I just mentioned at some point but I just went kinda ham on Samurai movies and I grabbed the Dirty Harry blu set of all 5 because well crap it was reasonably costed.

Oh I was talking about Peter Jackson's King Kong, Godzilla 1998, and... I got no jokes for Gamera.

Also your library has CC blu-rays? Or are you requesting these from them? I live near some pretty upscale areas, but it turns out rich people don't use public libraries. My public library is a small, cramped, single-story building. It honestly feels kind of creepy and run down.

Topeka Public Library has some baller ass donors and was actually voted library of the year last year. There was a recent donation (last couple years) where they massively expanded their foreign film selection.

lol, my daughter will be on Mario for a little while and then i'll give it a try, all the comparisons to SM64 are turning me off, and i like my Mario in the mushroom kingdom with goombas and turtles, apparently a lot of this isn't like that. its a super unpopular opinion to have i know, im sure its going to be really fun in the end.

Doesn't the entirety of SM64 take place in Peach's Castle, literally the heart of the Mushroom Kingdom?

not loving sm64 was more about the playstyle than the setting. i guess i should have said i like my Mario 2d super Mario world/new super Mario style and in the mushroom kingdom lol. the 3d games never resonated with me quite the same.

im hearing some people who also aren't as into the 3d as the 2d saying they have enjoyed this though so gonna give it a whirl.

Mario Odyssey is a whole different ball of wax when it comes to 3D Mario's. It's goofy, it's immersive, and it controls like a dream. If you have a Switch, get Mario. If you don't have a Switch, get a Switch.

I certainly am busy playing my RPGs. I like films also @gypsy. In fact I'm going through some buyers remorse on a Sony 75" I bought because there is now an 85" that is cheaper than the one I bought, and just as good of a TV. I'd probably watch more movies if I had the 85.

that's what ive heard, def want to play it and see where it falls on my all time Mario list. ive heard some SMW diehards say its surpassed that for them and others say it doesn't quite but close. Mario wasn't just a game it was an institution when a lot of us were kids so it'll be interesting to see what they've done 30+ years later. i am not a fun of the "used to be a plumber", but i guess with the adventuring and princess saving he doesn't have much time for that these days.

I just set a "Fudge you I'm winning" bid for a game I need. Last time I did this I bid $90 for Bust-a-Move 3 on Saturn and lost, and now the BINs for BAM3 are "I GUESS THIS GAME IS WORTH $90 NOW". Hopefully I don't destroy the secondhand market for another game.

Side note I need Bust-A-Move 3 and I have like... $60.

Turns out all it took was more posting about how the thread is dead to get it rolling again. Lol.

Heh, I don't want to budget in a tv that large that doesn't suck. My 60 or so inch tv sucks. I mean it's functional, but yeah. I think I mentioned it before but I looooove the 20'' CRT monitor I picked up awhile back for anime/movies. The colors and blacks pop on it. Extremely noticeable in high quality cut anime.

I have some friends that would like to move to the US one day. I sent them this post to show them that the average American problem is being sad that they're not watching as many movies because they bought the 75" TV instead of the 85" TV.

that's how i feel anytime i finish a game and try to decide what to play next. my backlog is infinite, its not a 5 year project its more like a 20 year lol.

i read an interesting article about strategies to attack your backlog and start working through it. some of which i was already doing. it talked about how it doesn't have to be done all at once, if it takes you 10 years it takes you 10 years so what. it also talked about how you may have to let go of the notion that you must beat every game you play depending on the size. but in rpgs what am i playing for if not the conclusion of the tale ive been in all those hours? its a definite first world problem.

I'm all for letting go of the notion that you'll play ever game ever, but starting a bunch of games and never finishing them? That's just crazy. I live for end credits. I don't have to 100% complete games or anything, but you gotta finish them!

It helps that I don't like Japanese RPGs.

ya exactly! id rather finish 10 good games than play 100 average ones for an hour a piece.

ya if you don't like jrpgs it def is easier lol.

i think i may have 100% one thing ever that wasn't a telltale game, and that was by accident i wasn't trying to.

Having to 100% games means beating a lot less games. I pretty much never do it anymore.

haha. I don't think that's the average American. I won't deny that I live in relative comfort though. There's a lot of people really bad off in America. So I don't want to give them the wrong idea.
