new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is brand:::PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

They're doing keychains, maps, sticker sheets, mini-CD, manual, with the other releases and pre-orders, I'm sure we'll get a couple things in there like that.

Not sure if it's been said yet but LA Noire will "require" a 14GB download for the physical cart version coming on 11/14.

If using the physical cartridge version of L.A. Noire, the game will require a 14 GB digital download containing required gameplay data as well as general bug fixes and improvements. This file can be downloaded to either the Nintendo Switch console's internal storage or a microSD card (sold separately).

It's getting old to have all these day one patches for most every game but to sell a physical cart that will not function without a "required" download containing "required game data", that's a joke....or fraud.

Someone on another board mentioned the full game download is 16-18GB. How the heck can you sell a cart that basically is a boot disk and call it retail product that costs the same or more than the digital version of the game?

That's what happens when the publisher slams their fist on the table and says "IT'S GOLD, SHIP IT AND PATCH IT LATER", they print out the carts and the devs are like "We literally now have to push out the entire game to fix it."

Consoles gave up the one advantage they had...

Like, that was the reason to play technically downgraded console versions of games also on PC. That it would just work on your hardware. No hardware differences among the consumer base to really have to worry about. Plus devs knew they couldn't patch. So the game GENERALLY shipped out 100% functional.

Ok thanks, and I'm sure he will get back to me soon. I would prefer to own an official US release over asian version, simple as that. Plus PA has not revealed their box art yet and this one looks great. Only reason to keep it is it comes out in November but I have so many other games to play.

Agreed. It's the whole, everyone has internet type of thinking, we can just patch up any problems down the road in this day and age. But that is so far from the original idea it basically puts no difference between a physical release and a digital one say 20 years from now. Neither one will be usable in their current form, especially true of these "required game data" downloads.

Sure, it'll be on a virtual console somewhere or remade on a future system but that doesn't really promote anything more than the throw away world we live in these days. We'll release it on the next console and you can buy it again son, nobody plays that old Switch console anymore they're using the the new Nintendo Vapor.

So, Amazon's added a new Augmented Reality component to its online shopping app, so you can place objects to get a feel for what they'd look like in place. Hoping you can add stacks of modern games onto a shelf, take a pic to share and then dump your cart instead of blowing $450 on crapty games that'll be worth $15 a piece in six months.

ive been looking at amazon pantry to try and see what things I can start getting off of there for the amazon commission. some things are too much higher than wal mart to be reasonable but there several things that are the same price or slightly better if you look at what you're paying per ounce, so some things can def start getting on there. I asked his billness once and he said prime pantry will indeed give the commission so hey why not, and less things to get at the store. dry goods only of course, they don't do frozen I can imagine the dry ice shipments would be more trouble for amazon than it would be worth.

Well since my top 3 shelfs are "mini" my entire PS1 collection is on the 2nd shelf so. . Lunar Complete, Lunar 2 Complete, Thousand Arms, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Suikoden, Final Fantasy VII, King's Field II, I could go on. .

Which fixture? The 2nd drawer "shelf" holds all my GBA games. The one behind my room's door is some NES. Next to that is shelving for systems. Continuing around, I just redid the shelves behind the closet door, so that second shelf is the PCE shelf. Next to that is the biggest unit, where the second shelf is all my PS2 games.

Ummm I literally have games all over the house so I wouldn't even know what you meant ..... Like which second shelf in which room I don't have a dedicated game room.

This is possible with a smaller mint collection. Each game means that much more to me. I have a shoebox shelf that fits my N64 and SNES games perfectly. I have my psx/3ds/ds/gba on my mini shelves. And I have my currently playing games on a large bookshelf. The rest of the stuff is on that DVD/blue ray style shelf with the mini shelves.

On the top of my head
- added brand:::Nintendo Switch and 2 god tier games
- had @kwaza install batteries in most of my brand:::Sega Genesis, brand:::Super Nintendo, and brand:::Sega CD ram cart
- purged games from various systems to help pay for expensive oldies
- added a few decent games to pad my brand:::PlayStation Vita collection
- bought a few new games for brand:::Nintendo 3DS and brand:::PlayStation 4 but mostly focused on retro systems.
- added a couple "gem tier" games like Popful Mail and Lunar 2 Complete pristine mint.

For November and December, I am going to play stuff I already have, and maybe do a end of year purge.

I don't think I need any new games. I havbe Xenoblade 2 preordered for Switch but I haven't even beaten the first one smiley:::wry smile

Well unlike most people here I like or try to like all games and have reasons for most of them being here but I'm pretty sure there's too much here to ever actually bother with.

I haven't started on MMX either BUT it turns out I still have MMX collection on ps2 from @DiamondDave that was in on of my media cabinets. D'oh! Still gotta hook up a ps2 though maybe I'll just set one up on another tv in one of the bedrooms.

I just need to do more stuff.

I have Xenosaga 2 for preorder and I don't ever plan on playing the first game. Can't play every game after all, you just have to chose what you want most. You just can't play every good game out there. But I really dig my Switch and I am hyped for a portable Xenoblade with those beautiful graphics.

I'm pretty organized about my collection. I have an inventory system I can consult and all my games are arranged alphabetically by console. So if you ask me for a specific game, odds are I'll be able to find it pretty quickly.

I'm replaying Xenosaga now, and it's better than I remember it. I guess I can appreciate it more now that I'm older / not depressed. It's a very good game. The one thing I never forgot about it was it has my favorite RPG ending of all time.

I might get one anyways. These will be pretty rare, the only real fears I have are who tf would fix it if it broke and how playable would that actually be since you have to almost have your hand in front of the screen to play. I have larger than normal hands so I worry about even being able to control it without feeling totally clumsy.

I still think they're pretty awesome though. Despite my worries.

OK prices, really nice selection of vintage stuff but min prices were $5 on Atari stuff. I only picked up a few 5200 shelf fillers and Polarium and Space Invaders Extreme on DS, all BOGO.

FYI that early bird price for the retro atari arcade games does not include shipping. It's $115 after all said and done. I backed it because it looks really cool, and I will will probably regret not getting it for $90 instead of $160. It was at 82 now at 78 so I don't think the early bird price will last much longer. Sure you can emulate, but the thing about the 2 games they've announced. Centipede and Tempest, both have unique controls. Roller ball and dail. And they promise a sweet price on Tempest for Centipede backers. These just look too cool. Officially liscensed by Atari as well.

Don't they look too cool and collectible to not just get one at least? I'm still wondering what will come next though?

And yes the fact that they have those unique types of controls probably also makes it way easier to control than a tiny joystick. I couldn't imagine even being able to play it with a tiny joystick. Maybe if this is their plan we might see Marble Madness with a tiny rollerball too!

Wait what kind of a controller did paperboy use in the arcade?!? 😊

Yeah they do. Centipede is a really fun game too. Their next one is Tempest. I'm not really that interested in that one. Don't think it's that great of a game. But I will def be on the look out for any future arcade gems from them. Centipede is def worth it in my opinion. They aren't tiny either. About a foot tall and 4.5" each way.

If anyone has a DS lite and a DSI can you do me a favor? On my DS Lite I get just a little bit of a motion trail. I in Chrono Trigger Millinial fair when I move around the ground and objects have a very small trail as I move around the town. It's so short of a trail that it appears more of a blur or "out of focus" as I run around. This is noticeable in other games like Dragon Quest. However when playing on 3DS the background is perfectly sharp while moving.

I want to find out if it's just the way the DS Lite screen is or if I might have a defect. And if you have one of those games can you compare movement on a DS Lite to a DSI?

Oh and I read the Ninja Gaiden II guide from Nintendo Power yesterday, was pleasantly surprised that they illustrated the cutscenes into comics in the guide.

The writing was horrible but the guide was informative with each level mapped out. And they listed all the enemies and their names and all that, surprised me how many different types of enemies there were in the game.

I just got a bunch of monster movie BDs. King Kong, Godzilla, the new and old Gamera movies. I wish more of it was available on BD. Tons of the older monster movies aren't available in HD and it sucks. The Godzilla chronology is such a clusterfudge and you can't get any single era of Godzilla movies on blu-ray.

I also don't like nothing-but-CG movies. Maybe it's bred out of how much I like horror. Nothing turns a horror into a comedy faster than computers.

I actually just got Dracula, Frankenstein and Godzilla checked out from the library on Sunday. You know the real Godzilla, from like 1954. Praise be to Criterion. Unfortunately I don't think there is enough interest in Godzilla for Criterion to handle more of them. Some of the blus are pretty terrible and of course the entire Godzilla filmography is not available on blu.

Probably going to buy the three I just mentioned at some point but I just went kinda ham on Samurai movies and I grabbed the Dirty Harry blu set of all 5 because well crap it was reasonably costed.

Oh I was talking about Peter Jackson's King Kong, Godzilla 1998, and... I got no jokes for Gamera.

Also your library has CC blu-rays? Or are you requesting these from them? I live near some pretty upscale areas, but it turns out rich people don't use public libraries. My public library is a small, cramped, single-story building. It honestly feels kind of creepy and run down.

not loving sm64 was more about the playstyle than the setting. i guess i should have said i like my Mario 2d super Mario world/new super Mario style and in the mushroom kingdom lol. the 3d games never resonated with me quite the same.

im hearing some people who also aren't as into the 3d as the 2d saying they have enjoyed this though so gonna give it a whirl.

Turns out all it took was more posting about how the thread is dead to get it rolling again. Lol.

Heh, I don't want to budget in a tv that large that doesn't suck. My 60 or so inch tv sucks. I mean it's functional, but yeah. I think I mentioned it before but I looooove the 20'' CRT monitor I picked up awhile back for anime/movies. The colors and blacks pop on it. Extremely noticeable in high quality cut anime.

I would be here forever if I tried to play all the FE games first.

that's how i feel anytime i finish a game and try to decide what to play next. my backlog is infinite, its not a 5 year project its more like a 20 year lol.

i read an interesting article about strategies to attack your backlog and start working through it. some of which i was already doing. it talked about how it doesn't have to be done all at once, if it takes you 10 years it takes you 10 years so what. it also talked about how you may have to let go of the notion that you must beat every game you play depending on the size. but in rpgs what am i playing for if not the conclusion of the tale ive been in all those hours? its a definite first world problem.

I'm all for letting go of the notion that you'll play ever game ever, but starting a bunch of games and never finishing them? That's just crazy. I live for end credits. I don't have to 100% complete games or anything, but you gotta finish them!

It helps that I don't like Japanese RPGs.

ya exactly! id rather finish 10 good games than play 100 average ones for an hour a piece.

ya if you don't like jrpgs it def is easier lol.

i think i may have 100% one thing ever that wasn't a telltale game, and that was by accident i wasn't trying to.

haha. I don't think that's the average American. I won't deny that I live in relative comfort though. There's a lot of people really bad off in America. So I don't want to give them the wrong idea.

Over the last... oh, 6 years or so, I have acquired, on brand:::DVD or brand:::Blu-Ray, almost all the Godzilla movies legally released in North America.

The few duplicates I ended up with went to a coworker who has a cute little girl who also appreciates the simple joy of giant monster movies. I approve because I was that girl many moons ago. (Thanks, Dad) yes

I have a handful of brand:::UltraViolet codes for the Godzilla brand:::Blu-Ray double features if anyone's interested.

I've got an Acer 144hz, it's nice. IPS would be nicer but for the price point couldn't really complain, but the refresh is only really good on PC, nothing's pushing more than 60fps literally anywhere else.

For $70 on the dot, got the following in the e-Store:

Castlevania Adventure: Rebirth (Pretty sweet, wanna get Gradius Rebirth now)
Gradius II: Gofer no Yabo
Ys Book 1 and 2
Gate of Thunder
Lords of Thunder
Castlevania: Dracula X
Neutopia
Neutopia II
Soldier Blade

Saved about $600 versus dopey TG16 prices, not even counting Dracula X or Gradius II. See, that's the power of having good prices from the start, you don't need sales to make things seem extraordinary.

I think I have a 22" I haven't used yet bc my 26" 4 year old Samsung LCD still works great. I actually played on my 26" before I started getting RGB and iscans and OSSCs. But now with the upscaling I don't mind the larger sizes. The only systems I have that don't look good on larger screens are PSOne and N64. I use the PSOne LCD for that, and I play my N64 on my 40". Which is larger than is decent for N64 but it looks alright.

the ending parts like a lot of jrpgs do go on a little long, I think most ending rpg dungeons could be half their length easily, but anyway, its worth it, if you're in the final dungeons you're really close, and I found I could beat the final boss skipping a lot of the final dungeon common fights with sneaking past them.
like if you didn't neglect momentos leveling through the game you should be strong enough without these final few levels gained in the final dungeon.

ya I felt the final dungeon was long, but I think that about most rpgs. the game as a whole I could have played another 50 hours and loved every second, P5 is my number 2 game of all time. I don't expect it to get fixed. I bought it off ebay as brand new open box. Granted the system did feel very new and untouched. However it's likely the guy noticed the defect right away and didn't touch it again and decided to sell it as unused. Which it virtually was.

It's not bad. It's not something most people would even notice. It takes something like a 2D top down game like chrono trigger and focusing on the background as you move. So it's a working DS, just with a minor screen flaw. I'll likely sell it as such when I get a new DSlite.

I might want to buy a cheap loose one just to confirm before I invest in another new one. or if I get lucky enough to come across a loose on that's in excellent shape.

Unfortunate part of old sealed product, you have no idea what environment it was stored in, even if it looks good. HAD YOU PRACTICE SCHRODINGER'S CAT TACTICS YOU'D NEVER HAVE KNOWN

If you buy sealed old product you should really stick to your guns and just not screw with it. I speak from experience. It's just a bummer, you really have no way of telling what's gone on over the years/decades.

It's really incredibly popular. I think in the times I've had it for sale/trade here it probably holds the top 2 most replies in thread and via pm for anything I've listed.

Back in 1994, brand:::Sega had just released Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Genesis) and, thanks to a tie-in with McDonald's, Sonic-mania had taken over everyone's favorite Happy Meal. As a matter of fact, on the side of the box, a mail-in sweepstakes gave me the chance to win a brand new copy of said video game. Sure enough, six to eight weeks later, a random package arrived for me and there it was. But, at the time, my allegiance wasn't to the brand:::Sega Genesis; all I had was a brand:::Super Nintendo. So, my mom took me to Toys 'R' Us, returned it, and I picked out EarthBound (Super Nintendo) instead. The rest, they say, is history! smiley:::grin

My early video game memories of my Dad buying a few games here and there for my at Toys R Us. Back in the 80s/90s. They had game rows, and tons of flip over laminated cards on the shelf where you could flip over and see game screenshots. And you would take a slip at the checkout then go to the highly barricaded game whatever it's called and they would bring your game to you. You can see videos on youtube about vidya game shopping at TRU in the past.

And since we seem to be telling video game stories. I remember the first game I wanted for SNES was Final Fantasy II. I wanted that because I had played a FEW RPGs and had good experiences. DW, DW2, DW4, Final Fantasy. But it was after FFII that I became a true RPG Lover. The Music, characters, and story delighted me to no end.

It just so happened that I fell in love at just the right time. Because then proceeded a decade + of the golden age of console RPGs.

Nintendo is maybe the greediest game company and they are shrewd and it's disgusting. I still love the Nintendo brand because they do have some of the best games on every generation of system they've released but sometimes they bend the customer over just a few too many times. They started doing that with different 3ds screens as well. It's very shady.

But yeah I agree with this. Message the seller first. If they don't reply, move to the next listing. You can't expect something beyond a working system. Honestly, I'd hit up local game stores. You are probably going to pay more but you can test to your heart's content.

No Diddy Kong racing? That's just great! Thanks Nintendo 😞

I'm not even sure I would want one of these now. I'm thinking the Snes Classic has a better lineup now. I guess it doesn't matter I still like n64 I just don't need the classic.

I'm not leaving. I'm just a poor little sap having a bad day. BTW @Gypsy it was that MJ thing that set it off back in gaijin works because I think he was the worst about being a dickhead to me. I am just very sensitive to teasing, even if people are trying to be friendly or cute. I felt like several people were just piling on. I was bullied extensively through school. So I don't respond well if I feel people are making fun of me.

I actually remember some I don't know if they were screenshots or just game play mock ups for CGI 3D earthbound characters for Earthbound 64 So it was def in development. And there were also some CGI style 3D character models for the next final fantasy (which was scrapped and turned into FFVII on PSOne). I did read GameFan a lot so perhaps it was in one of those issues.

I would guess that applies to most of us here actually. Especially those closer to 30+. Video games were not as mainstream as they are now.

Looking at the list, Sin & Punishment is going to be their push game; I'm not aware of a physical release of that outside Japan. Maybe it won't be, since it was on the Wii digitally, but I'm sensing more that one...

Looks like I missed an episode.

@ErickRPG, you are always welcome here.

As for getting out of collecting, I think I'm at a point where there is simply no space in our apartment. I actually need to make some room for kids stuff. So until I get out of this place, I will need to be conservastive with what new things I get. Im definitely not not collecting anymore, just not hoarding anymore. Most things can be replaced.

As a apartment owner with kids I feel your struggle. I have a closet and my mum's house helps with the storage problem.

I moved my kids in a room together so my wife could have space for an office and I took the other part of the room for my games. Plan on buying bunk beds sometime before christmas so they can have more room for stuff.

It's often no a matter of space (at least in Florida), or money (sometimes) , it's a matter of time or lack of free time.

That game was made by Rare. It will be highly unlikely to have Diddy Kong Racing, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Blast Corps, Killer Instinct, Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Jet Force Gemini...

I know and people have pointed that out before. I was still hopeful that at least that or even a banjo game would be there. I mean Nintendo HAS a ton of different games they could add that they aren't. Diddy Kong isn't the only one but it's the one I thought would be most likely.

If they could have added more to the snes classic and nes classics then they should have done that too. As it stands this possible lineup is not good enough, Nintendo would do well to try add more to this possibly more different third party games.

I had 3 USPS packages missing from my mailbox last month, and this month I had a package from Fedex delivered to a pickup location and it wasn't there when I went to pick it up. What the heck is going on.

Thieves obviously 😞

I'm sorry to hear that sir. The closer it gets to the holidays the worse it's going to get too.

I get my neighbors mail occasionally (both one and two houses down as well as another house with the same house number 2 blocks away). I am almost positive they fudgeed up delivery of my 3 packages but my neighbors are not as nice or competent as I am. I hope they enjoy my contact cleaner and Cool Spot on SNES. My security camera didn't pick up anyone stealing my mail.

Just the other day I received a package addressed to "Some Guy @ 123 Not My Address" with a big question mark next to it, which they put when it's a name they don't recognize. Well not crap USPS, it's not my name, nor is it my address.
