new Thread Description
This thread was originally created to encourage traders here at GTZ to do more trading, especially retro related stuff. It has turned into a lot more and I am so grateful to everyone who contributed to this thread and have kept it going for nearly 6 months now. I hope this thread will continue to thrive and everyone who reads/participates in this thread will gain some value or knowledge out of it.

We will still have Trade lists up here, though it's been a while since anyone updated. I encourage everyone to look over their lists and post updates.
There is also a section for gorgeous pictures of game rooms that active participants of this thread have shared. Feel free to share some pics of your collection or game room.
I will be adding another section for information regarding video quality of retro gaming systems on modern displays and how to improve them.
There is rather some extensive discussion regarding how to improve the display quality of retro gaming systems and if you are new to this like I am, you will find it very informative.

Old Topic Description

GTZ has become a marketplace where the most commonly traded commodity is PayPal. I want to start an effort to get some trades going and to discuss some good games perhaps you never heard of or interested in but want to discover/know more of. For example, I just got intto shmups after years of ignoring the genre and I love to discover new(to me) and rediscover old ones(Sonic Wings comes to mind).

No pressure here. Feel free to discuss anything retro. Perhaps throw out some WTTF targets and what you have to offer. I am sick of browsing people's year old Available lists.

Some examples:

- WTTF/WTB/LF
- What you think is awesome game/series/whatever
- Potential games you have up for trade
- Pics of what you have/what you would love to get/what you think is the bestest awesomest game ever
- Show off your latest finds/adds to your collection

To each their own castlevania 64 was one of my favorite Castlevanias possibly because it was the first I got to play since super castlevania besides symphony of the night. I love all the Castlevanias I've played I even liked the first one on gameboy.

To be fair mega man X is pretty good and it's a lot easier than some of the regular mega man Nes and 360 games but it's a little bit of a grind. But I really do like it and am still going to keep playing it. I want that Hadoken 😊

I can't beat it without dying to the act 7 timer. The timer is by far the hardest part of the game. I haven't been trying lately though. I just play through the game for fun.

Also just died in Pulseman to the arcade auto scrolly stage. Time to grind through the boring levels again.

You also get a dog in Samurai Showdown if you pick that one guy 😉 But I still much prefer Tam Tam or his little sister Cham Cham from the first two games.

And again I will try it if it's available to me.

Anything related to pokemon gets a price hike, which is why a cart of drill dozer is now almost 40 bucks, even though nobody wanted it when it came out.

You die if the timer runs out. It fully resets when you die, so you've probably never died to it. It isn't an issue except for act 7, the longest act in the entire trilogy, on top of having 3 boss fights at the end. Beating it in 250 seconds is crazy. I can beat it without dying besides a suicide halfway through act 7 for timer reasons though.

I'll try beating it with no continues first. No deaths seems pretty hard. Maybe if I play slower and analyze every move.

Well, now that I beat it, feel free to drop some pro tips in spoiler tags!

IGN reviewed the Virtual Console version of Pulseman, giving it a score of 8.0 out of 10, therefore receiving IGN's Editor's choice award. In the review, the author praises its graphics as "one of the cleanest, most crisp and most attractive platformers on the Genesis" and that the game "isn't just fun, it's electric."

Yeah I thought his name was something similar to that 😊

It's a good series. Though honestly I only remember playing the first two a lot as well as the one on 360 samurai showdown sen is it? I like that one but I had a harder time with the 3D aspect and the characters weren't as exciting to me. No little Cham Cham

Alrighty, I'm done with Pulseman. It sure is a lot faster going through the levels knowing about dashing to charge. Also figuring out you're entirely invincible while dashing, doing the up jumpy thing, and in Voltorb mode makes the game easier. I usually read the manual before playing a game angry

Alisia Dragoon was from Game Arts. Great game, but very hard. And the Japanese box art is gorgeous. (I own the US version.)

In addition to Pulseman, Game Freak also developed Mendel Palace and Smartball. But Pokémon was what both put them on the map and nearly did them in. GF was very nearly the victim of its own success as they worked to meet the demands of a template for Pokémon's future: a worldwide release, spin-off games, AND a sequel. Satoru Iwata did a LOT of the heavy lifting back in the day to not only make it possible for Gold and Silver to be finished, but also fixed some bugs and created tools to allow Red/Green to be localized. His team at HAL Laboratory made it possible for Pokémon Stadium and Snap to exist.

Games like HarmoKnight and Drill Dozer are likely made to allow "smaller" projects their time to shine and keep the Game Freak staff from getting burned out. It certainly helps that they're fun. (Recommended reading: Iwata Asks: HarmoKnight)

Back on topic...

I bought Pulseman as a delayed college graduation present to myself 11-12 years ago. It was $60 shipped from Singapore then. I had no idea that it would go through the roof like it has. I played the heck out of it on Sega Channel and still bought it on Nintendo Wii Virtual Console Virtual Console years later because I was glad it was put out there for more people to enjoy.

Nah, just the ones you want to play almost anything on. For me it was Genesis, and PC Engine when I have one, still mostly is. N64, SNES, never got much use out of those.

Here's my vote for the first "Game of the Month" in 2018:

image

positive It's very accessible with iterations on the Super Nintendo, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo Wii Virtual Console, and Super Nintendo Classic Edition.
positive It's hard as balls, especially with the double play-through, which means it shouldn't be finished too quickly.
positive It's genuinely fun with a good amount of challenge.
